I do apologise about the lady in the church xx I live in the village and the village tour guide and I'm slightly ashamed you were greeted this way xx most of us are a friendly bunch xx
Please don't apologise. I am completely familiar with the strength of feeling this kind of thing generates and, as I mentioned, I do have some sympathy. In a way I have exploited the poor lady who, I am absolutely sure, just said what she beleives, because there is so much zany intolerance around I thought I would make a comment on it. I may live to regret it but I sort of feel it's probably a good idea if we all chill a little.
Having seen what can happen to this sort of out-of-the-way place when tourism dries up and the people show hostility to "outsiders", one wonders if she would have the same attitude if given a taste of that possible outcome. Of course it's only one person, but human nature focuses on the negative and it only takes a few bad reviews online or from some megastar's Twitter comment for word to spread. On the other hand I've also seen what happens to everyday life when tourism and commercialization - and all the so called modern progress that brings - takes over. It can be a fine line sometimes, and I sympathize with that too. However folks like TCE are clearly the antithesis of the awful tourist type (and interest) and one would think that explanation would be enough for her.
I love to hear the affect in the narrator’s voice. He clearly has deep respect for English history in his bones! As an American, I can only listen with envy.
Oh, that's so sad about the church and its treasures. When we visited, the lady volunteer and her daughter were delightful. They were prepared for anything, talked with my family members for a long time about the church, the village and recent trips we'd all taken (she had run her daughter's things up to Uni so that she could go up by train a few days later). They offered tea and biscuits to all visitors, this was during the period of mourning for HMQ so there had been lots of people in to sign the Book of Condolence.
I remember with fondness our visit to this beautiful village many years ago. We were lucky to pick a day that was not over full of visitors. We bought a hand drawn picture of the village that still adorns our wall, bringing back memories of that day.
Robin, sincere thanks for your amazing narrative on the Cotswolds. Watching from across the pond in the states has given me an amazing appreciation for the region and it has become my #1 travel bucket list destination. Your knowledge of, and passion for the Cotswolds is evident in every episode; there could be no greater champion for this amazing place. Here's hoping you continue to tell stories about new locations--possibly a bit further south perhaps, say Cheddar Gorge? Would love to hear your take on that area. Thanks again.
Dear Robin and Ross , I just wanted to thank you both so much for all the work you do in bringing The Cotswolds to so many viewers. I love the videos and Robins voice is a delight and brings so much more to the beautiful places of interest. I look forward to future videos...thank you so much. Mary Welham
Hi Robin & Ross, thank you for all you have done so far it’s been a great pleasure to follow you through the Cotswolds showing all the little gem villages that have great history. Looking forward to more and wishing you safe and well and happy adventures.
Good morning from North Carolina!! I started watching you while I was in the hospital during the C19 -2020 . I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for your series . I will go through playlists and watch all Ive missed . God bless always
Wonderful episode once again. We look forward with eager anticipation your new venture Robin. It has been a fascinating journey filled with old memories, our grateful lucky thanks. Andrew, Grant, Brae the Westie, Xena the Dalmatian and Maggie the cat from Albany, Western 😊
Thank you so much...Cotswold is a jewel. I enjoyed so much all the episodes and looking forward to your “promised” next episodes...it was for me, a remarkable journey!
I have watched several of your videos now and love them, I can't say I have noticed you repeating yourself enough for it to stick in my mind, so I would recommend not worrying about them.
I was there over the Summer - now I can find out everything I missed 😄. The faceless clock was my personal favourite (and the baked alaska I had in the pub).
Robin, your observations are so true. Any places revered for its quaint nature often is doomed to be a magnet for tourism. We experience that here in the States, where quiet places become so commercialized that those who originally inhabited these places have decamped for other less buy areas, leaving nothing behind but a facade, or land for developers to raze everything and build the inevitable townhouses. Exploring these lovely places is delightful if done with taste and reserve; tourist can be rather pushy and loud which I find distasteful. It is a regrettable combination. Don’t get me started on developers……they have come to our village, ripped up the prime farmland for tacky housing. Too bad that little church was so rudely treated. Thanks for sharing!
I went to Chedworth last summer with my sister & brother in law as it was summer it was rather busy it’d be interesting to go in late autumn or winter (as long as it’s not too cold) apparently it was one of the last Roman estates to fall to the Saxon invaders.
I am broken hearted! How could it be the end of series ?? Wales should be next tho or Ireland! TYSM for the lovely years so far Robin et all! Love from me , Felix , Foggy, and Monkey ( cats) and Minnie the dog , Aberdeen Ohio ♥
That video shows us a wonderful village, your explanation is clear, and it's lovely to hear British English, but what I like more is your explorer heat, it"ll be in a gallery or museum in a next future. See you from Brazil.
Thank you so very much, Robin, for bringing the lovely Cotswold villages to Canada for me to enjoy. Seeing that part of England really feeds the soul - such antiquity and peace! Your loyal dogs add a lot of joy to your walks, I’m sure. 🇨🇦
Superb filming as always…excited to watch more in 2023. Take care both of you and thank you so so much for these wonderful adventures I can hardly wait for the next episodes! Xx😘😘
You had me worried for a while there Robin, coming as you have to the end Evan's book tour - I so glad there is more to come - Love you Vlogs keep going!
I just happened upon your videos, and what an absolute pleasure! As my wanderlust is the English countryside, this was food for the soul. Thanks so much for sharing!
I can get a bus to Chipping Sodbury but I don't very often. I must do this summer as it's a pretty little town. My Dad always used to say that nearby Old Sodbury was called that because Old Sod was buried there! The Bible translator William Tyndale was the chaplain at the old manor house there and did a lot of his work when he was there as I have read.
These charming towns and villages are on my list to visit the Cotswolds 😊 I love the comment aimed at Harry 😄😆😁 Quite right you are! Crowned heads must be made of sterner stuff 👍👍
Tourism certainly beats people coming and never leaving like in NW Arkansas. They came in like locusts, have torn most of our historic houses down. They are extremely unfriendly and backstabbing. And...we locals are seen as trash and used as sharecroppers. We work hard and can't afford to live here anymore and have no money to leave either. Count your blessings that you only have tourists!!!
I pray that I only ever reflect the love of God through any interactions I have with anyone while at church or elsewhere. If we can't even be kind to people in church, we might need to do some self reflecting. As a Christian, I hope to be a witness to God's love and compassion instead of being rude to people - especially people as well-meaning and genuinely interested in the history of the church as this gentleman.
As much as I love the historical tours of the beautiful Cotswold churches, I dearly wish you would take your camera into the local pubs....perhaps when no customers are there....and take us on a walk thru with interesting historical facts.
Mr Robin, you gave a good chuckle with the comparison analogy between Harry and QEI...I really feel bad that one of our American "celebrities" has infected the British Monarchy and in a negative way.
I didn’t know this, but the location where you are at I have actually got a painting in the Hallway of flat that my grandfather painted of this location in the Cotswolds
Oh Robin, NO. Why no more episodes? How will I be able to explore the Cotswolds? I live in The U.S. and will never get to England in person. You, Ross, Widget and Gizmo will be missed 😢
Robin and Ross, thanks so much for keeping me grounded and sane. Please tell as many English people as you can to come and help populate Ireland. As our government seems to want everyone from everywhere to do so. And frankly we'd prefer good CofE stock here. God Bless.
That's NOT a good idea and YOU know it. Heavens , I am only Irish by heritage but am not indifferent to the issues Ireland is facing. They already have an immigration problem at this moment. Besides , this is not a good place for this discussion .
Excellent and really informative series which has inspired me to visit the Cotswolds this summer - I know more dreaded tourists. Just a little disappointed in the unnecessary and inaccurate dig at Prince Harry. You might like to read the book to be better informed. Otherwise, I look forward to more series.
As you say 'modern life' has not encroached on Castle Combe, I can't help but condemn the double yellow lines, albeit muted. Surely we can come up with a better system than this very intrusive prohibition.
Oh indeed they do. A few are just kept up to preserve them but the majority are used regularly for services and also for weddings, funerals and concerts. Thanks for watching. Robin

@Soukthavone Insisienmay well then he would do well to keep his mouth shut, keep his wife's mouth shut as well and stay away from the UK. Hi Robin first belated happy new year .. Will be watching ,monday morning with breakfast as always Cheers Tc Liverpool Uk
I am watching from the U.S. I would love to see a tour of the area in which the village/shire of Rosewood once existed.
Can't remember whether you've visited Tetbury and Nailsworth. I must have missed them
watching from san francisco bay area. lovely to watch your show during lockdown and now. all i can say is surprise me!
Hi im watching from the Wirral.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your journeys around the Cotswolds, but most impotantly your wonderful voice guiding through these amazing villages.
Excellent series, most enjoyable escape from a terribly uncertain world.
I love to hear the affect in the narrator’s voice. He clearly has deep respect for English history in his bones! As an American, I can only listen with envy.
Robin - thanks so much for this great final episode - I have enjoyed this series so much.
The reason I thumbed down this comment, is because of this being the final video.
I love your comment about Harry and the dog bowl😅
I've watched nearly all of this series, beautifully filmed and narrated
Thank you.
Thanks for new episode
