Such a great idea to save half before you start eating to be sure you don’t overeat. I usually take home leftovers but not as much as I should. I join loyalty programs, use discounted restaurant gift card and any coupons or specials. My favorite is getting a b1g1 free meal, eating half saving the rest for another meal later, paying with a discounted gift card and getting points towards other restaurant rewards. I’ve gotten 50% discount gift cards 💳 for restaurants so the savings can be big.

Perfect solution! I would suggest a "tension shower rod". All you have to do is twist in opposite directions and there's no drilling and screws. If you buy a fabric decorative shower curtain, you get a plastic liner (they are cheap) and they have the weighted magnets on the bottom. So much easier to just throw the plastic liner in the wash when it gets dirty than trying to clean a shower door.
Yes! Love using those kind of rods. I have a counter that has two “walls/sides” and I use one there with smaller market baskets (hung with S hooks) the onions, garlic, potatoes and squash for the week are stored there up off the counter and easy to access and see to use up.
Always hated shower doors. More harder to keep clean. Shower curtain you throw in the wash. Easy peasy. Now that I'm older, I make sure everything I own and purchase are easy to keep clean.
Shower doors are hard to clean. I use a nice fabric curtain, which is about 6 years old and an inexpensive liner. I wash both in my machine. I change the liner as it wears out. I use terry cloth mats for rugs and they soak up any spillage which is rare. Good luck!
Another way to save money is to replace single use ziplock bags with silicone reusable bags. Initial outlay is definitely much more but you wash them out after each use thereby saving money over time. I gradually bought silicone bags over a year and have not bought disposable bags in 3 years. To save money on the reusable bags, I waited for half price and clearance sales. I have 40 bags in various sizes. 40 may seem excessive but my prepped fruit and vegetables go in them, so do freezer meals, plus I use them for freezer storage.
I decided this holiday to make most of the Christmas gifts...I crocheted dish rags, made raspberry jam from my raspberry patch, making dessert breads n cookies. All of my kids and friends have everything they need or trying to downsize so getting them personal gifts that are useful and thoughtful is frugal for me.
I use a coin operated car wash. For 5.00, I can pressure wash, rinse and vacuum my small car, but I have to work fast before the time runs out, lol!😂 Between washes, I brush off any loose dirt with a microfiber duster from the Dollar Tree and hand wash the windows. Using this method, I only need to wash the car about every three weeks.

I asked him to take a look at it, and he fiddled with it for a while... and fixed it. That was a big saving. Plus, I have hedges along the front fence and half the back fence. The driveway and garage is on the other half. I can't do yardwork anymore. I've the job priced at regular yard care service. It was 2000 DOLLARS. Well, that wasn't going to happen. My neighbor is a supervisor at a company that does commercial landscaping, but not residential. He knows his guys like to make extra money, so every once in a while, on the weekend, he has a couple of guys come over. They an absolutely beautiful, professional job on both my hedges and his hedges. He pays them for his yard and I pay them for mine. It's about 120-180 dollars. That's a huge saving. Love you MM. ❤❤❤
If you get a good tension rod and buy your plastic shower liner and you don't even have to buy the cloth part so it looks all pretty if you don't want to...I am one that suggested that you remove that shower door and put up a curtain and I told you how when I was 8 months pregnant and was taking a shower and of course no one was home and I got stuck in the shower for over 15 minutes ...could not get those dang doors open...and as soon as I FINALLY got out of that shower which was the sliding glass shower doors... I literally took those shower doors off by myself...and when I bought my next house same thing with the sliding glass shower doors...off they came and also have a stand up shower like yours and I use the tension rod with no problem..and ONE big PLUS no more shower door to CLEAN...to me they are a pain in the rear.
Get a decorative shower curtain for the outside & a liner on the inside. No leaks. I am curious if fresh produce stays fresh in the mason jars. Haven’t tried it. I have these Rubbermaid fresh containers, which I coincidentally got on a clearance price cuz there was no room on the store shelf. They work wonderful & our fruits & produce last quite a long time in them.
Yes get rid of that shower door! They're a pain to keep clean. Had those growing up in the 1970's/80's. A shower curtain (and liner) can be thrown in the washer and also easily replaced. I've learned to wash every 8 weeks after spraying with white vinegar and water. I have a fabric liner vs the old vinyl liner.
I remove my glass shower doors on every house I’ve had. I also skip the shower curtain and just get a good heavy duty liner especially in the rear bath that doesn’t need to be decorative.
I use jars for storing dry good, dry mixes, store leftovers, store smoothies in. I put veggie preps in jars too. I put coffee and tea in them. Just about anything you use plastic containers for I use jars.
We have shower doors in our house now but I hate cleaning them.. In our past house we had shower curtains in some of the bathrooms. I always hated the plastic ones because the get gross/moldy fast and they smell and they want to suction against you. I bought the kind that are more like material and you can put them in the washer. Soooooo worth it on every level.
I tried liners several times, and they always wanted to billow out and wrap around my legs. Ugh! I now have one that is sort of fabric, which means the spray from the shower comes through the curtain somewhat, but if you have good shower rugs on the floor, they dry fast, and you can hang them over the side of the tub when you are finished. No more billowing. Perhaps a heavier liner (a.k.a. more expensive) would not have billowed. I tried one with magnets, but the magnets dragging on the tub all the time was a pain, too.
When I make soup, stews or casseroles I add a little extra vegetables to stretch the volume and add nutrition. Canned, frozen or fresh, it doesn't matter; whatever I have on hand.
We have a shower curtain and rod and it is so easy to clean. I bought white and throw it in the washing machine with bleach. I got the shower curtain that has mesh for the top foot so it lets more light into the shower. We caulked the holes were the screws were too with a cream colored caulk that matched our shower.
Years ago I bought reusable containers that are easier to eat from and mix up salad stuff in. I tried the mason jar thing for salads. Nope. But they are good for overnite oats and such. I’m saving money by not buying paper plates and have cut way back on paper towels. Those things have gotten very pricey !!! Not buying any more clothes until I lose those last 20 pounds. That will be my reward 😀👍🏻 Make sure you get a clear plastic liner unless you have a lite in the shower. If not, it will be very dark 😮
It's great that you have zero food waste. I use the same dollar tree portion control containers to pack leftovers. Preparing meals and portioning them out helps with budget and the waistline. Make sure the shower curtain does not blow out when you turn on the shower head, that will leave a huge amount of water on the bathroom floor. I toss out the clothes cataloges too. Now, if I can just stop watching HSN and QVC.
My sister-in-law watches QVC all day. She loves the hosts. She never buys anything, but she enjoys watching. I guess at age 92, she's allowed to watch what she wants, lol!
We did the shower curtain solution a long time ago. The mason jars would also be good for freezing leftover soup. Just leave a little space for the soup to expand. In the winter, fresh tomatoes get quite expensive. I buy the canned diced tomatoes. They work well on salads, on top of eggs, on top of tacos, in spaghetti sauce, in soups, with no chopping or waste. Best wishes.
I'm using small jars to save grease for seasoning. Aluminum foil with bent sides in the air fryer I do my bacon, pork, burger, chicken in that collects the grease. Hoping to use it this winter to add to the Instant Pot for flavoring. Less food waste. Less expensive than bullion cubes.
I bought chicken thighs with bone because of the nutritional value and found that the thighs are so large. Each thigh is 25% bigger than what I need for my recipe so I am saving that much extra. for side dishes...Im spending 72cents daily on main meals with a tablespoon of peanut butter ..1/3 c of sunflower seeds..chia seeds..chocolate chips ..on the side. I'm choosing a warmer room temperature 73° over carefree grocery shopping...staying with no shopping months and because all basics stores- post office, library are within 2 miles. I use 1 gallon of gasoline per month..maybe 2 now that we have 9" of snow
During hot months, Ill throw leftover veggies into a stir fry. Quick and easy. Believe it or not, you can also thro leftover veggies into a blender w/some tomato juice and make a veggie smoothie.
I don't buy jars, as I get so many things in jars already that I have plenty of saved jars of all kinds, with lids. I use them to store leftovers of all kinds. I also use plain sandwich bags for leftovers. I eat leftovers within a couple/three days, so it is a cheap way to save space in my tiny refrigerator.
Ww did the shower curtain and rod. Get the tension rod. No drilling holes or brackets. Our sons used the showerall through high school and rod never came down. I just use the heavy weighted liner curtain. No problems.😊
I use jars that used to hold fiod i have bought, like spaghetti sauce, pickles, etc. I haven't bought food storage containers in years, excrpt for 5 or 6 Mason jars i bought at Goodwill super cheap. They usually have their Mason jar peices so high because they know they are in demand.
I took double glass shower doors and frame off tube. Bought rod and curtain for less than $50. Rods that self adjust by just turning are the best . use liner and curtain and sew magnets in bottom of curtain
The shower curtain is a good idea. However I know someone who did this. Water kept running out on the floor and it caused major damages to the floor. It was very expensive to replace the floor and shower.
I put myself on a no spend month or longer since I spent money on getting new Christmas trees along with some other Christmas greenery. It's nice being able to go to the store so rarely because I have a good amount of back up food, so we aren't getting hit too hard with the increased prices.
The shower curtain and liner is brilliant. You can wash both of these in the washer multiple times. I've had the same curtain liner for I don't know how long.
Next year I plan on having on having my bathroom redid mostly in part because the have to dig up the floor because of plumbing. The shower door is the first thing I want to go. It's hard to clean and I really miss having my curtain. If you do a curtain buy a good one that you can throw in the washer. I never used a liner either just a good fabric curtain.
See if your Mason jars have the ounces and cup measurements on the outside. Masson jars are the perfect way to keep track of water intake. That's the only reason I drink out of mine. 😊
I love drinking out of jars. While it may be hillbilly backwoods to do it, I find that the jars are much more stable, don't get knocked over nearly as much, and feel good to drink from. I also use coffee mugs to drink water or anything out of, for the same reason.
I just made myself up 5 salads in a jar a few days ago and had one for lunch today, they come in so very handy and last for quite awhile, several months back I did a video on my channel showing how I did it, it was posted to my playlist, on All things food and drinks!!! Thanks for sharing this fantastic hint!
I love these home tours showing how you're saving. I'm so glad you're not wasting food. We have very little food waste. If something is getting close to the expiration date and I can't use it before then, I'll freeze it. The curtain on the shower is much easier for my mother to use and to clean. Great video! Love to all, Linda 💕
If you buy a tension rod you can experiment the placement so that ALL of the water is directed into the shower cubicle, you really don't want water around the edges rotting out drywall and wood
the advantage of a shower curtain is that you can change the pattern. the negative is that they go mouldy...however if you get two shower curtains and change them weekly and wash them in the washing machine you should be ok
I like to use Mason Jars with oxygen absorbers to store rice, beans, pasta etc., keeps bugs out and you can store them for longer term. Most of our meals are precooked, portioned out and frozen = no waste. Produce, I never buy in large quantities to ensure it gets eaten before going in the trash. I've been making overnight no knead breads and freezing those as well. Next month I'm going to bake some Lebkuchen which is also going in the freezer. The longer the Lebkuchen sits the better it gets and I only take out what I want without eating too much.
Dawn, Wonderful video as always!! Great idea about the shower curtain. We did that many years ago and it has been great. See if you tomorrow!! Love from Debbie and Dexter-Dog.🙋🐾🧑🦽👍👍🙏🙏
I love love love love love love your meat idea they do say we are eating way too much the portion size. I'm buying those Italian loafs at Walmart for a dollar and I'm freezing them and using them up. I do have a fancy one with the garlic butter and stuff on top, that's in the freezer too
Good video. I removed my shower door and replaced it with a liner and a shower curtain several years ago and have not regretted it. I will get some mason jars to store veggies in for salad. Thanks for sharing.
It's amazing how much my life is like yours. I have the same shower my hinge broke on the door. I had someone take a regular shower curtain rod it has two pieces with a spring in it .they took the outer diameter piece of the rod and cut it shorter. I think they may have cut the inner diameter rod also. So it now fits across the place where the door was . And I took a regular shower curtain and liner and cut it in half. With the mason jars that you're getting ready to use I found out that the small fruit cups I think they're by Dole? After you eat the fruit out the little cup fits inside the Mason jar and can sit on the top and you just clamp the band and lid down as usual. you can then put your salad dressing for your salad in the top and it won't make the salad soggy. Could also put some dip up there and have cut veggies below in the jar ❤.
One potentially huge savings is for those who do frequent product mailings in envelopes, and who also receive supplies or merchandise in large mailers. I get things from Amazon in plastic, flexible mailers that are sealed closed. One day I ordered something and received it in one of these mailers, but noticed when I opened it, that inside on the walls of the mailer, there were labels. The labels were mostly blacked out with magic marker. They had turned the envelope inside out and reused it. Yesterday I got something from somewhere in one of them, and tried to turn it inside out, but it wasn't happening. So I stuck my hand into the bottom, and with my other hand gathered the two corners and the plastic in between into a wad, and gripped the wad with my other hand, and pulled it through, carefully. This resulted in a completely blank outside plastic envelope. To reuse, just fold the top over and staple well across the top, or tape really well with box tape so it doesn't pull loose. For people with small businesses, envelopes are a major expense. This can cut down on mailing materials in a major way. Just remember to black out the labels with a Sharpie or other indelible marker.
Buying less meats. Cooking at home. Oatmeal twice a week for breakfast. If we go out for breakfast or maybe lunch, we often split the meal. Making 50% of our dog food. When I make soups/stews, I freeze half.
I personally scared of those type of shower doors. They are dangerous. I preferred a shower curtain always. Very scared of small spaces and if that door brakes you are stuck and the glass might break.
These doors open and close very easily ,and for the tempered glass on the shower door, I have one Like Dawns and I've had the same door for over 30 years. Wouldn't worry too much about that!
@sjbutler2330 I live in Earthquake country. At a back house, I lived in that did happen. I was having to bath my toddler then at their Grandparents'home and sneak a quick shower for myself. Hated that.
Hello Dawn Sometimes I like to prep my veggies the day before I use them in a stir fry. I usually do this when I already have leftovers to finish but want to make sure i have something prepped for the next cooking session. I like to prep veggies when I am on not to personal speaker call.
Many people your age are “downsizing” to smaller homes, MM. You are downsized without the horribleness (😉) of packing up everything and moving! It’s a win-win!
Great video!! I am NOT a shower door lover. I think they are cold looking, not pretty, and difficult to clean! Go for that shower curtain! It will be pretty. 🥰👏🏻
Hi Dawn! This is wonderful. Would love to know an update on your No spending challenge. How’s that going? I decided to start today! 😂🎉 It definitely saves lots of $$$ to start cooking and making your own meals!!! That’s what my husband and I do. Unfortunately I have a love/hate relationship with cooking but u do what u gotta do to stay healthy. It takes “work” even if it means sacrificing= lifestyle. On our budget my husband and I allow ourselves to only order takeout 1-2x a week max. That’s it. But that’s not weekly-only when we feel burnt out or possibly just tired of super healthy food we’ll give ourselves a treat. Balance is key. Thankfully we have a gym at home. To save $ from the gym I feel like it’s worth the investment to buy at least 1 equipment u like and investing in your health. 💪🏽 My husband does the treadmill 30 min/day and I do the elliptical and bike 60 min/day or 45 min just depends on my mood. Also, sometimes I’ll get sick of salads and during this time of year I love to make my favorite chili soup with kale, beans and ground Turkey-butternut squash. It’ll last me for days. Super delicious!
Well there's two ways that I'm thinking of saving money and what I'm actually going to do one of them I already utilize the second one I just have to pull the trigger on lol (procrastinating) #1 at work, i dont have as much of a break now, so i am not spending almost 15-20 dollars on lunch... #2 i moved into my apt in May, i rented furniture just for a quick "throw together"... So, I'm going to be sending it back because there's no commitment and then I'm just going to have to get something else because although I make decent money it's still really dwindling away every thing
Be sure to look for used furniture except for upholstered items. If you have a way to clean and sanitize upholstery, it'd be okay to purchase used upholstered furniture.
Our post office won't take a "stop junk mail" asking...our post office tells you that you must contact the sender directly to request a "stop delivery," and of course the sender will never comply to it .
I'm saving alot of money by not celebrating Christmas or any holiday bc they are not in harmony with what fhe Bihle says..bc no where will u find Christmas in the Bible. Not even Thanksgiving day is in fhe Bihle. And or any holiday in the Bible I hate to burst yr bubble but that is how I save during this time .no need to buy any gifts bc I don't celebrate any of them. Which frees me up to spend my money how I want too.😊
Actually holidays are set up by the government of the day, to appease the masses of people so they will not revolt and overthrow the government of the time. Plus the fact of holidays make tons of money for merchants and the like. It also employs a lot of people! 🙁
@sjbutler2330 I don't mean to be argumentative but it was not the government that insisted on Holidays. It was fhe churches of the day. Like fhe church of fhe day started Christmas. Google it. You'll see who started Christmas....And yr right it does employe alot of people but it doesn't honor God. It detracts from God's name Jehovah...
arthur, back in the day, churches and government actually were one and the same plus if the people did not get time off to celebrate, they would revolt. They would also do that in 2023!
@sjbutler2330 no that is true. Churches and Governments we separate. Google that too. If u want to know. They're weren't one in fhe same. Churches had their own domain amd were closest to the king at fhe time but they worked separately from another...You have it mixed up. The King of the day would follow the Churches of fhe day but they weren't one in the same. Get yr facts straight...
Thank you for sharing. We had a power cut last night . Luckily I had a couple of wind up 🔦 and lanterns ..and we just turned the crank for a bit and they lit up well enough to see . I’m so glad I spent money on them ..they are not expensive and best part is no need to spend on batteries..they are solar powered also if needed . 🇬🇧💛🤍
Mason jar tip; Your cut up veggies and fruit will last longer in a mason jar in the refrigerator than in the storage bags.
Thank you

My experience with glass in the freezer resulted in broken glass all over the inside...such a mess to clean-up!
I freeze with glass all the time. No problems that I have encountered.
I find putting half of a paper towel in with cut veggies makes them last longer, as it absorbs moisture.
We did exactly that with our shower. Yes to a weighted shower curtain. Saved money.
I took double glass shower doors and frame off tube. Bought rod and curtain for less than $50. Rods that self adjust by just turning are the best . use liner and curtain and sew magnets in bottom of curtain
A shower curtain is so much easier to keep clean than the door. I just throw mine in the washer with towels and it comes out so nice. 🥰
The shower curtain is a good idea. However I know someone who did this. Water kept running out on the floor and it caused major damages to the floor. It was very expensive to replace the floor and shower.
We got two curtains
I put myself on a no spend month or longer since I spent money on getting new Christmas trees along with some other Christmas greenery. It's nice being able to go to the store so rarely because I have a good amount of back up food, so we aren't getting hit too hard with the increased prices.
I am doing a no spend
That's great!
We are going to take our door off as well. We are going to use a curved shower rod to give more room
The shower curtain and liner is brilliant. You can wash both of these in the washer multiple times. I've had the same curtain liner for I don't know how long.
Good to know!
She is eating well!!
They do
I bought a $16 Mr.Clean cloth shower curtain. Just toss it in the wash once in a while when it's looking dirty.
Wonderful
If you add a paper towel inside the baggies, your veggies will last longer.
Love your channel - thanks
Great tip!
Good to know.
Sounds great!
Thank you
I like to use Mason Jars with oxygen absorbers to store rice, beans, pasta etc., keeps bugs out and you can store them for longer term.
Thank you! Will do!
Dawn you need a shower curtains liner as well. The liner stays inside the s hower the curtain stays out
We also bought one
Your kitchen is nicely arranged. Mine is too and I love it!
Thanks so much! 😊
Great job!
I have some fruit cups too
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom i think it fits the regular mouth jars
Great idea
Great ideas!
That's what we did as well. We're going to remodel the bathroom in 3 years anyway so a new shower door is a bit useless. 😂
Great video Dawn!😎
Buying less meats. Cooking at home. Oatmeal twice a week for breakfast. If we go out for breakfast or maybe lunch, we often split the meal. Making 50% of our dog food. When I make soups/stews, I freeze half.
Very good! 👍 😊👍
Love the catalogue idea
Thank you
I personally scared of those type of shower doors. They are dangerous. I preferred a shower curtain always. Very scared of small spaces and if that door brakes you are stuck and the glass might break.
These doors open and close very easily ,and for the tempered glass on the shower door, I have one
Like Dawns and I've had the same door for over 30 years. Wouldn't worry too much about that!
@sjbutler2330 I live in Earthquake country. At a back house, I lived in that did happen. I was having to bath my toddler then at their Grandparents'home and sneak a quick shower for myself. Hated that.
Hello Dawn
Sometimes I like to prep my veggies the day before I use them in a stir fry. I usually do this when I already have leftovers to finish but want to make sure i have something prepped for the next cooking session. I like to prep veggies when I am on not to personal speaker call.
Thanks for the tip!
You're welcome@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom
Use the jars instead of bags.
Thanks Dawn! 😊
Many people your age are “downsizing” to smaller homes, MM.
You are downsized without the horribleness (😉) of packing up everything and moving!
It’s a win-win!
So true!
Good morning dawn ❤❤❤
Good morning!
Dawn produce stays great in Mason jars.
Great video!! I am NOT a shower door lover. I think they are cold looking, not pretty, and difficult to clean! Go for that shower curtain! It will be pretty. 🥰👏🏻
I need to do the salad prep too money more mom❤❤❤
Thats it dawn we save money here and there tonspend those savongs somewere else
Is the prep with portion control helping you with weightloss or are you like me and I just eat 2 or snack.
Then you don’t have to worry about water drops etc on the shower door
Oh yes
Hi Dawn! This is wonderful. Would love to know an update on your No spending challenge. How’s that going? I decided to start today! 😂🎉
It definitely saves lots of $$$ to start cooking and making your own meals!!!
Video to come
I dont know if you've done a video like this already but I'd be interested in seeing a week of dinners including leftovers. TFS
Coming soon!
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom Thanks 😊
Well there's two ways that I'm thinking of saving money and what I'm actually going to do one of them I already utilize the second one I just have to pull the trigger on lol (procrastinating)
#1 at work, i dont have as much of a break now, so i am not spending almost 15-20 dollars on lunch...
@@3TXSisters thx
I only buy what we need.
That's great!
It would be fun if you to keep a catalog of your daily savings and take a look at the end of the year totalling how that made a difference
Wonderful idea
Dawn. Go to the post office and stop junk mail. Like catalog. Or scratch out your information and shred them
I didn’t know you could do that 😮
Thanks.
Our post office won't take a "stop junk mail" asking...our post office tells you that you must contact the sender directly to request a "stop delivery," and of course the sender will never comply to it .
I see ur using Ziploc bags (very expensive) instead use glass ware with reusable plastic covers, recycle d bread bags
😊❤
Congrats on the waste reduction of fresh fruits and vegetables. That can be a tough one.
Yes! Thank you!
@sjbutler2330 Constantine is the one who started Christmas. Google it.
Or,make them in the portion control Tupperware.easy
Thank you for sharing. We had a power cut last night . Luckily I had a couple of wind up 🔦 and lanterns ..and we just turned the crank for a bit and they lit up well enough to see . I’m so glad I spent money on them ..they are not expensive and best part is no need to spend on batteries..they are solar powered also if needed . 🇬🇧💛🤍
Awesome ideas Dawn. Thank you for sharing them. ♥♥♥
You are so welcome!
