Amazing here Kenny looks so fresh no stress it would appear on his face I think he hid the stress well until February 1991

Im a Liverpool fan, and I was holidaying in Barbados with my family when this was on back in 1990...This was sadly when Liverpool's decline and Manchester United's rise began

+Nik Reece Liverpool followed this game with 8 wins in a row at the start of the league season, and dropped 4 points in the opening 14 games. Man Utd finished the season 17 points behind in 6th place. So I think you may be a year early in identifying when the shift of power happened.

    Thanks for this.
Who'd have guessed such a complete change around in both clubs' fortunes would happen (about bleeding time in my opinion)? Albeit, not quite overnight (we had a quite mediocre league season that year).

I was at this game nearly missed my coach back. But it was the 4-4 in the FA Cup against Everton that turn out to be the biggest game that season and Kenny ended up resigning.

We see the beginning of the end in terms of refereeing decisions where a player can look for a pen here. Just contact the defender, go down and win a penalty. Anyone who played "proper" football knows that wasn't a penalty, but the cheating still goes on today, with the full blessing of the FA, the PL and the law of the game!

I'm a Liverpool can but the United away kit from that season is one of my favourites, even Steven Gerrard wore it as a kid.

Shearer wanted to go Anfield in 1996, but you couldn't afford him.

It was shared. Each club kept the Charity Shield for six months.

Yeah, strange everything seemed OK we went on a run from the start of the league campaign with load of strait victory's from the start of the season. We beat some recorded doing so. But by January 1991 it started to go all wrong. By then the Old guard like Hansen, Gillesspie, McMahon, Whelan, Nicol, Gobbelaar etc were either finished or or past there best. Pains me to say it as well coz I went to a lot of games that season.

So was Bruce and Pally. I was paranoid for ages that you were gonna beat us to Pally's signature. Was a huge relief when you got Hysen instead of him coming to OT.

Souness made some strange decisions; but then so did Fergie at first. Ralph MIlne was much worse than anyone you've ever bought. 88-89 and 89-90 were bloody nightmare seasons.

I remember Liverpool setting the pace that season including beating us 4 nil at anfield, Beardsley hatrick, the dalglish dropped him half way through the season and bought david speedie who was nowhere near the player beardsley was. If Dalglish had stayed on it would have been them and united tussling for the title when the premier league started a few years after this instead of Villa/Blackburn.

@distantvoices Yeah, I think there is a tipping point with all of these things. Liverpool during the late 80s always had these fringe players, but there was enough quality elsewhere for it not to matter. But by late 1990 there were suddenly too many of them in the starting line up. But I think by 1989 1990, Man Und were already in a better financial position than Liverpool. It just took them time to get the right signings.

Not the best of turn outs from Liverpool. Loads of empty seats in their end.
