Souness, was one of the best midfielders in world football
Wow looking back at this ..charity shield look at the crowd and listen to the atmosphere ,great days .YNWA . Not to mention some great players on both sides 👍
Thanks! As a kid I missed nearly all 81-82 season and up to Jan 83 as we stayed in South Africa for the old mans work.
Brilliant upload
Good memories & love the big match tune at that time
Respect to the uploader 🤗
My first ever football match. I was 9 years old, my dad took me.
I was they age 13. ....thank you grandad 🙏
respect to crooks sticking up for hoodle
Duckjive,
Thanks for providing this Charity Shield action from Wembley. Two fine footballing sides putting on a showpiece occasion. Good insight too from Saint and Greavsie and fine commentary from Brian Moore!
Keith Burkinshaw was spot on about the Brazilians.
Tottenham’s 7th visit to Wembley, between May 81 - August 82, wow! 2 FA Cup Finals & 2 replays, 1 Milk Cup Final & 2 Charity Shields. 2 v Liverpool, 2 v Manchester City, 2 v QPR & 1 v Aston Villa.
Only 2 victories though, even then attractive but no strength.
Both those Cups were gifted, by Hutchinson in 81 and QPR never turned up for the replay.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Dalglish grabs crooks by throat and Souness stamps on Hoddle....yet St John says Crooks deserved sending off 🤣🤣🤣🤣💰💰
He threw a punch
Mate I know you can’t teach stupid but you’re a master. Crooks punched two players a put the head in . But as village idiot you didn’t see it . Congratulations and since that game spurs still haven’t won the league as normal or very little else
Liverpool played a zonal 5-3-2/3-5-2 system to accommodate Thompson, Lawrenson and Hansen in central defense. Well you would if you had three of the most cultured centre-backs in the league in your squad. Bob Paisley was adamant this was not a man-for-man marking/sweeper system.
The system was abandoned in autumn after Hansen dropped out due to injury and then Thompson picked up another injury against Graham Taylor's Watford at Anfield.
That injury effectively ended Phil's career at Liverpool.
It's a pity because the system gave Thompson and Hansen in particular a lot of freedom to step out from the back.
I lost count how many goals rush scored at that end over the years
With great help from this video I’ve identified all the substitutes and added them to the Wikipedia page for this game, previously it only listed those who came on (with the wrong shirts numbers too).
I was there that day.
Brilliant upload thanks mate you got any more Liverpool game
Best spurs shirt ever. Liverpool great team too.
My last game before moving to Ireland . Carnage in the stands that day as was the norm then unfortunately.
There was crowd trouble at this one?
@@capri2673 yep so bad it even got into the newspapers. Fighting near the Royal box. The League cup final the previous March was bad too.
@@randyborstol2491 Was at the League (Milk) Cup Final back in 1982. Spuds fans did not take kindly to their defeat that day.
john lacy played at Wembley twice
for Fulham in the 1975 FA Cup Final
for Spurs in the 1982 Charity Shield
Ex Spur John Cutbush was the first Maltese player to take part in an FA Cup final - for Fulham in the '75 match.
Security SynergyHouse is he Maitese?
@@mohdazmi10 John Cutbush is indeed Maltese
Security SynergyHouse yes... i check in wikipedia and he is Malta-born.
Ian rush was 20/21 yrs old in this game 🤯😱
I predict it will end in tears for Spurs ;-)
Obviously Crooks should of been sent off but how the game has changed Souness's stamp was exceptable.
Crooks wasn't exactly a saint & Graham Roberts was Tottenham's very own animal. Forest had 3 (Burns, Lloyd & McGovern). Some right dirty bastards in the game, with the delightful Vincent Jones still to come in another 5 years.
He's still a petulant 5hite on political television shows, as football punditry is beneath him now....
Great through ball by thommo why do our midfielders ( of now )make it look hard to slip a ball through a gap ? Thommo made it look easy
Paisley experimented with a sweeper system here and at the start of that season. He soon abandoned it.
Sorry - if you lift your hands - right or wrong - your off!!
6.33 red card, 6.34 red card, 6.38 red card
Tottenham had never lost at Wembley until 1982, then they lost twice to Liverpool.
Jon Cole That is true. But in true 80s fashion, Tottenham boys kicked fuck out of Liverpool on both occasions after the games.
@Athelstan Edwardson I remember listening to it on the radio - yes Spurs seemed to have won it.
They even had a great chance cleared off the line just before Liverpool's equaliser.
@Athelstan Edwardson I think it was Souness getting back to clear after Archibald had an almost-open goal at his mercy.
@@coniferclose very clever comment
@@coniferclose all about number's....pity you never showed up at Anfield until the mid to late 80's...thinkin you were all cool in ye golf clobber....any Liverpool who wore it got laughed at....!!! you we're years behind the original Liverpool lads.....and you've had plenty a kickin at Anfield back in the day.... although you'd probably never admit it....!!!
Souness should have been sent off for that stamp on Hoddle. Disgusting.
He's fat
he's round
he bounces off the ground Sammy Lee....
