- Crystal Palace headed into the FA Cup Semi-Final against Liverpool as massive underdogs but what ensued at Villa Park was one of the most memorable and exciting cup ties ever!
I am 78 now, was there in 1990. One of the greatest game ever , if not THE .......... well I'm a Palace fan !!!! Love you guys;
Playing at a neutral ground made the FA cup magical, these semi finals at Wembley has ruined it! Also the Cup final played at five pm is ridiculous! I always remember as a kid watching it on BBC1 build up from 12 with the final at 3pm. Sadly the FA cup has lost its magic
Not to mention the 15 minutes it now takes from final whistle to collecting the trophy, it used to be about 4 minutes, and don’t even get me started about the music that’s pumped out when the cup is lifted
Wembley is a neutral ground...
Semi-finals should be held at geographic locations suited for both clubs. If you live up in the north and your club makes it, how can you foot the bill for two potential trips to London? It's expensive and time-consuming.
@@incarnateTheGreat Villa Park was the perfect location. Almost the centre of the country.
I was born in 1975 . You must have been around the same time because what you said is exactly the same as I would have . 💯 ❤
I'm 75yrs old now and been a Palace man since I was 7 yrs old and watched some epic wins and this semi final was one of them, wish football was like it was then when players played with passion and no poxy rainbow arm bands and boot laces, great day's of football gone forever.
I agree mate 💯.. I’m a Liverpool fan and was 14 when this semi final was played .. I remember McMahon burying the equaliser and was ecstatic … but the resulting final … Ian wright etcetc created history and probably was the beginning of Wrights illustrious career !!!!
I’m here now watching match of the day - thinking how good football was years back and although a red I you tubed this game but my main reason was McMahons equaliser ❤
Good luck sir and good health 🔥
This game ended the invincible aura of Liverpool.
The terrace behind the goal when McMahon scored the 2nd goal for Liverpool is what football was about and I wish it still was. This was a great semi final, one of the best I’ve ever seen.
Yes mate I agree 1 million %❤❤❤
Just watched it over and over and it’s actually out of this world 🥳
United fan here. What a fabulous day of football that was with both semi finals bringing us 13 goals in total!! You were very unlucky to lose the final as well after Ian Wright's magic
Nobody cares if you support a club that's in a bad state right now you Manc rat, Get a life mate.😂
@@wehatemancs4393mad loserpool fan🤣🤣 so easy to trigger these clowns
When the FA Cup still really mattered, before it was totally ruined by marketing people.
I think this was first FA Cup semi final to be played on a Sunday, when because of what happened the previous year, it used to be Saturdays at 3pm. Later years games would be at midday, 2pm, 4pm, 5.30pm.
One of the greatest semi finals of all time. When the fa cup still mattered. Such a shame they couldn’t beat Man U in the final
I say that to my son this was one of the greatest fa cup match ever it gives me a rush through my spine lol watching this game
If they had Ferguson would have been sacked for sure. In fact he was going to get the chop if they hadn't won against Forest in the third round.
All thanks to Mark Hughes snibbing
@@markdavidson9100 Nigel Jemson equalized for Forest against them but it was disallowed for pushing so they say. We thrashed them 6-1 at the City Ground just before the F.A cup final at the end of that season.Nice!!!!
Lee Martin! Met his mum in Costco!
The other semi final at Maine Road finished 3-3 what a glorious day for the fa cup.
The final also finished 3-3?
Unusually United were drawn away from home in every round?
I truly love this match .
Greatest game I've ever seen live. Will never be topped
Thanks Motty for the childhood memories 👍
RIP
Fantastic Palace Kit
I was there, probably the best Palace game in my 59 years as a Palace fan,and we've had some other games I will never forget.3-3 v L'pool,Stockport and Shef Wed,and many more
When the cup still had it’s magic and still mattered to every football player and fan. Unfortunately money has destroyed the FA cup. I used to watch it from the start of the buildup at 9am to the finish of the whole thing at about 5:15-5:30pm. Throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. And it had a 3pm kickoff time. Now I don’t know what time it kicks off, what day it’s played or who’s involved. It’s been made into just another game instead of being the biggest day in the football calendar.
Still never a penalty
First the Berlin Wall came down then this! What amazing times.
Kids today will never know how exciting the FA Cup used to be
Absolutely truuuuuue
I may be an Arsenal fan but this makes me proud from Croydon 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
So in 1990 the FA Cup semi-finals and final produced a total of 23 goals. I'm not bothering to check - that must be the record.
WHAT A MATCH!
Good match, good pitch and happier times
Best game I've ever seen
Steve Staunton and Ray Houghton to later play for Palace lol
There was a feeling amoungst Palace fans when Ian Rush got injured, this is our chance. This could be a game changer.
First time Palace fans really sang Pardews name, up to then that season he was a Benteke type player.
what a game this was 😊
I was there, didn't enjoy the final result but the match and day were brilliant!
If they had kept John Aldridge they wouldn't be struggling with strikers in the 2nd half
Had we got to the Final, Fergie would never have been at Utd for even another week
@MR MISTER Absolutely, the Utd board were already looking at George Graham as he was definitely being considered.
Not just a changeover for a match .. but maybe for an era .. this dramatic loss of Liverpool gave Manchester United the chance to claim their very first of the many titles from Fergie… also foreshadowing the decline of Liverpool in the 90s
What a match
Palace should’ve won the cup, the better team in the first game, Mark Hughes snibbed in true Man Utd style
If Liverpool had won this (a team they beat 9-0 merely months beforehand)
- Dalglish vs Ferguson final
- Liverpool vs Man Utd final
- Liverpool would probably have won the final
- here's the big bit - Ferguson would have been SACKED, completely changing the course of 1990's football in England.
Seismic game.
All were fixed
When English football still meant something.
In the days before Sky Sports killed football
Aku usia 12 tahun saat nonton pertandingan ini..kalo ga salah pas bulan puasa..kala itu
Couldn't defend set piece that day!
Could never get my head around why they stuck with Grobbelar. He was rubbish. Four managers stuck with him. Unbelievable
🦅🦅🦅
Was Grobbelaar drunk??
Did price gobbler ever have hair?
Ian Rush in the early nineties double breasted suit with shoulder pads, worn with abstract tie.
this is the game that me become Liverpool fans
uefa abolish cup winners cup downgrade fa cup winners to uefa cup
