Worth a fortune to reveal the secrets of the dash - I never want to tackle that sort of repair with all those crazy junctions and clips. And never could without this sort of tutorial. I can't imagine that the Dodge manuals even come close to explaining this sort of torture. Most of us would get pissed and tear into it with a crowbar.
The later versions required removal of the upper dash cover and there isnt anything fun about it. Thanks for the cool feedback and for watching. Make sure to subscribe and put the crowbar away! lol

found this to be very informative. been a auto mechanic (independent) for 50 years. done alot of dash board component repairs. this one looked like a nighmare to remove. you made it look simple. just got to take your time and be careful not to break plastic.

Great video...very detailed....just wondering if it is possible to show or what extra steps in order to get access to the front AC evaporator...
Had to post twice. because I just fished my dash that has been busted for easily 8 years. It came RIGHT back on. proving it is the dash that was the problem (Solder Joints Id guess) the mileage says 135000 not 42000 like it should be. Ill get that other dash repaired. You made this job SO easy saying the size of the screws and hex bolts was perfect! you made this job SO easy it isnt even funny. Another interesting thing I got a Chrysler dash..I have a dodge car.. turning the car off and on once. Switched the dash to display Dodge again. (Didnt fix the mileage. I know that has to be programmed) Thanks again!

Once everything comes off the dash in order to get to the cluster, can you also access the ignition switch all at the same time?
Perfect video. Thank you. Question. The panel lights sometimes work and sometimes dont. The led miles and other led lights on it always work, just the lights the light up the speed/ fuel gauge / ect most the time dont work. Do you have an idea about this?

Have you ever done a video on instrument cluster removal on a 2017 Dodge Caravan 2011 through 2018 I believed it is the same I just purchased a used vehicle and one of the detail people got carried away with the plastic dressing and it got behind the lens would be great if you have any pointers on how to do this thank you

Thanks for the awesome video!! I have a '09 T&C and the dummy lights randomly flash all on, security indicator on and wipers go. I saw a video where there was a broken wire leading to the door (white/orange) and when soldered everything was fine. Took mine apart, but could not find any faulty wiring. should i look behind the instrument cluster? Any Ideas? Thank you for your armed service.
Usually those symptoms point towards a communication issue. The issue will require checking for codes in all the modules and then testing based on those codes. Your basic code reader will not be able to do this and it will take a special scanner. Otherwise you would be working on it blind. Thanks for the comment and for the question. Make sure to subscribe
What kind of scanner? I live in a small town with lots of "half way" mechanic shops. I'd like to be able to ask them if they even have the correct scanner.

Thank for your informative video first of all.
What I need to know before I tackle this job is if the milage and security codes on these models are stored within the BCM separately, or with the key/ignition, or if anything is bin the cluster.
I need to be prepared to have the replacement cluster reprogrammed before replacement for keeping the milage original, as well as if there will be no-start security issues with just a direct swap for drivability. Please and thank you for clearing that important detail up!

hay on my 2010 caravan shifter keeps locking,ill push the release under the small square port hole which does release the shifter but then the key fob will not turn back counter clockwise fully until i remove the battery cable for a couple minutes then replace it ,ive noticed the verticle shaft under the shifter knob doesnt have spring pressure, could that cause the key fob not releasing, for some reason its not letting the fob to turn counter clockwise enough to release,,thanx for your shows,
Is the one metal piece that was shown is that where you would find the heater core or is it behind the dashboard Cluster

a buddy know if I can take the gauge cluster from a town and country where it has the tachometer and voltmeter, combined with the gas gauge on the left side and put it in a Dodge caravan that just as the standard Cluster without the tachometer?
Not sure if its a direct swap or not.....I havent tried it myself yet.

I just upgraded my instrument cluster (09 dodge grand caravan), I have the basic one without tachometer and got a STX cluster with the tach. It was all plug and run, everything works fine, just the mileage is off by 200K, which is kinda a big amount, got it fixed by a repair shop.
I am also hoping to upgrade my manual climate controls to auto climate controls, the only difference between my van and the auto climate control van is I need a solar sensor and the cables for the sensor as well, I have cut the wiring harness piece that goes into the auto climate control system as well as the solar sensor from a wrecked van and the ATC itself from that van, it's the same year as mine and pretty much the same vin. The only problem is the connectors are different. ATC has one connector, manual one has 4. Any ideas if I could get a wiring diagram for both vehicles to make this switch possible? I also noticed each cable has a distinctive color combination, one has red and white, another blue and red and ect... If I take the red and white cable from my vehicle, can I solder it onto the red and white cable feeding into the ATC unit harness I cut from the van in the junkyard? getting a whole new harness will take me weeks to remove the dash and re install the dash.

On that vehicle the mileage is stored in the cluster. We order our replacement clusters with the mileage programmed in them. I dont know where they come from or where you can ship them to get reset. When it comes to swaps like your trying on the HVAC system....thats falls in a grey area where unless someone else has tried it and made it work and showed it online, there isnt much else I can tell you. On modern cars like that....the swaps are hard and sometimes not possible because wiring isnt in certain places....along with certain sensors....and the other thing is that the software isnt present to make it happen as well.
Thank you .. got this car new from my father in law (worked for Dodge and retired) The dash has a intermittent problem where the lcd panels go out and the backlight. Got a dash off ebay for 50 bucks. Figure Ill try this before I start going after more expensive things like the TIPM. It is the dash info display problem where the dash will go dark for 6 months.. come back for a year and then go away again for months. Weird as hell.. but whatever. Thanks for this GREAT video. Did a new cluster repair your issue? Friend has a 2010 where the odometer and amber indicators go out!
@@mark102003 yeah but now I have a van that says it has 120,000 miles and it had 65000.. I guess that is fine but yes. Swapping the dash out fixed the issue 100.. This comment was a year old and I have not had one problem. It would have happened once or twice since then by now.
If you have to replace the cluster will the mileage adjust to what is actually on the vehicle or is the mileage stored in the cluster itself?

As far as the other upgraded features working as a plug-n-play......I cant tell you for sure because I haven't had the chance to perform that swap as of yet. Question, if it's just the backlight on the gauge cluster that doesn't work or turn on when you turn the headlights on, you have to replace the entire cluster or is there a way to change the bulb? Or if possible could it be or mean that something else is wrong?

Just a comment for anyone in the future who needs this video, the plastic ring that pops out of the dash trim that goes around the Wireless Ignition Module marked ACC/ON/START is an antenna for the Wireless Ignition Module and it is used to detect the Key Fob. If you are trying to test the ignition system (Acc or trying to start the car) with this ring off the vehicle will NOT start and behave erratically.
Can I put a '15-ish Town & Country cluster in my '15 Caravan SXT or maybe a nicer one out of a Caravan?
Going to try this on my 2014 dodge caravan. Although first it will be exploratory to see if there is power to the cluster. Currently I start the car and no lights come one, the gauges sit dead, no interior lights, no tail lights, no turn signals. I heard that the cluster can knock all of these out? On the older caravans there are some videos about resoldering the power connection point to fix this issue instead of replacing the entire cluster. Pretty dismayed that my 3 year old dodge has this major issue. While the car will drive just fine its a major safety issue with no tail lights or turn signals. This is not covered under powertrain warranty the dealer tells me. Luckily I have a 13 year old bmw and 14 year old ford to drive while I try to sort out what was supposed to be the reliable new family car.

+Tchamaco The process is completely different. The service info has you remove the entire upper dash pad. Its a big job and will take a lot time. I have no idea why they decided to make it so hard especially when compared to previous years. Thanks for the question and make sure to subscribe
you are so kind answering the questions i really appropriate it . i have 2013 Chrysler TC 2 days ago it just stopped working when i try to start it i just here the starter and the fuse box make click noise so i changed the starter and still the same symptoms then i changed to brand new battery and its still the same . there no signs of oil in the coolant though?
Your welcome.I use to work at the airbase just outside of Habbaniyah Iraq, not to sure how far away that is from you. That issue is going to be a bit hard to check over the internet. There are things that need to be checked such as codes.

I actually worked for KBR (civilian contractor) I was a mechanic for the company and worked on some military non-tactical equipment. I was actually at TQ and spend about 2 weeks at the Ramadi base fixing a company front end loader. That was 2005-2006

+The Adventures of Patrick And Chipchip It really depends on the year. The older vans had replaceable bulbs but the newer like the 2009 doesn't use bulbs but instead led's so on that year, no. If the bulbs are replaceable you have to remove the cluster and possible partial disassembly.

+The Adventures of Patrick And Chipchip Are all the lights out on the cluster? If so than the first step would be using a scanner capable of accessing the cluster to see if any codes and then start checking the wiring going to the cluster for the illumination.

My instrument cluster is busted. I know how to change that out, but I don’t know where the mileage is stored. (PCM or the cluster) If stored in the cluster, Is there any way I can buy a used one and reprogram the the used one with the correct mileage?
Apparently it is stored in the cluster. my Caravan has like 43k on it.. the replacement has 112k.. ahh well.
I bought a dodge caravan 2010 but the mileage is covered with something black like tape and I can't see the milage. Is is possible to disassemble the instrument cluster further to remove the black plastic covering the milage ?
You can take it apart more once you have it out. I don't have any videos on that however. Just take your time and mainly try to get the lens off and see what you can access. On the 2010 Dodge Caravan base SE, are the bulbs replaceable? I seem to have one bulb that flickers for a few seconds on startup (after the van has sat for quite a few hours....otherwise it doesn't happen upon starts within a few hours). Thinking either poor connection somewhere or bulb starting to go out?
+Jean-Francois Gauthier Sorry about the delay. I checked and the service info states that if any light issues with the cluster.....the cluster has to be replaced, the lights cannot be replaced separately. I haven't seen this issue so far personally
+MotorCity Mechanic hey, i figured out the issue! I had a bad engine ground strap that had corroded. Replaced it and the dash no longer flickers, AND my headlights are not so dim anymore.
That being said this video you have here will be extremely useful for me as I have to repair or replace the air vent to the left of the steering wheel. Need to take the dash off to get to that (as you likely already know).
i also need to replace the heater control unit. Will this video and how you are pulling the middle apart allow me to take out the heater control unit or do I need to pull the whole middle part and remove the console between the seats?

To remove the center stack with the hvac control head you will need to remove the lower portion of the center part of the dash because it covers up the screws that attach the center portion to the dash. That means the console will need to be removed as well. Thanks again for watching
+MotorCity Mechanic Do you have any particular instructions on how to do that? I assume first step is take the console out (easy). Next the only thing I can think of is taking out the drink tray (not sure how that happens) and then not sure after that.
Jean-Francois Gauthier The lower portion is removed by taking the 6 plastic screw inserts out of the storage bin/compartment below the hvac control module bezel. There are 3 of these fasteners on each side of the storage bin. You need to gently back out the screw and then pull the screw and threaded insert out together.

I recommend having the hvac doors checked to see if there is an issue there....typically one door controls all the related vents unless something went work inside the hvac box. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
You know I took my van into the dealership and I’ve been wondering for at least two months what the heck has been going on with it $150 for them to check it out. They want 1500 to fix it of course they don’t make the part anymore, so they would have to send it out. I could do this by probably going to a junkyard. I’m not that mechanically inclined. My husband is though, but by watching this video, I could probably do that myself and taking the part out at a junkyard very informative.

when i install the new one is it going to read the old milage. or what its going to happened?
The odometer or mileage will remain with the cluster so your replacement cluster will show the mileage of the vehicle it came out of. When we order replacements.....we have to send the mileage so that it can be programmed to the mileage so that it will be accurate when we install it. We have no way of changing that at the dealer. What I am speaking of is that when we determine the year model van has a bad cluster and we go to order a replacement.....we have to send/attach the current mileage to the parts supplier. Then then enter that mileage into the cluster that the ship to us.
i see thank you , i thought its just like my Mercedes when i replaced the used cluster it did read my accurate milage by it self , so now i have to ship the used cluster to you to program the milage ?
It depends on where the mileage is stored.....some vehicle store it in the BCM (body control module) and in some vehicles the cluster is the BCM. I cant program it. I would check online to see who sales them and see if they offer that option to set the mileage. If you order a used one from someone....most likely that person might not be able to do that so check with companies that sale them first
