    De los primeros ejemplos de música descriptiva. Teniendo en cuenta el título y que el autor era italiano, está claro que la música de Vivaldi intenta describir una pizza cuatro estaciones. Los trinos y el virtuosismo del allegro inicial nos demuestra la naturaleza poderosa y vitalista de los champiñones y el pepperoni, el "lento" nos invade de la tranquilidad del queso "mozzarella" y el tomate que recubre la base; después vuelve otra vez a un allegro simbolizando así la pasión de la corteza y la fiereza de la masa.

      Pero qué análisis más commovedor... Profunda indagación sobre verdadero significado de la música descriptiva de Vivaldi, deberías hacerte musicólogo. Aunque desde mi honesto punto de vista, en ningún momento haces referencia al orégano. ¡Qué descuido, amigo! ¿No ves claramente como el motivo del minuto 7:04 (corchea con punto - semicorchea - corchea) simboliza las múltipes hojitas de orégano repartidas equitativamente por la superficie de dicha pizza?

    • @Krlos5303ify
      @Krlos5303ify 7 років тому +8

      +Roc Vela Se trataba de un análisis superficial, amigo. Si nos adentraramos dentro de su música descubririamos joyas simbólicas, como el ostinatto del bajo continuo, que dependiendo del movimiento simboliza la caja de cartón de la pizza o el cortapizzas.

    • @classicalmusicanalysis
      @classicalmusicanalysis  7 років тому +45

      Sorry you didn't like it, the recording used in this video is a performance by Julia Fischer and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, in which they play in a gorgeous greenhouse with birds. I think the birds are "used" as an integral part of Vivaldi's Spring, as a reminder of what the composer had in mind and tried to depict.
      By the way, I encourage you to post more constructive comments, even if it's a negative opinion. A deep and insightful opinion is always better than a simple statement as "Birds in the background are annoying". Have a nice day!

    • @ZheLi05
      @ZheLi05 7 років тому +2

      Roc Vela omg I am just an ordinary person who has very little formal training in music, and I was just listening to some music and expressing my feelings, that's all. I didn't mean anything. Is there a problem with that? What do you expect me to post? I doubt if I can post anything "constructive", let alone deep, insightful or whatever. Or should I simply keep quiet?

    • @classicalmusicanalysis
      @classicalmusicanalysis  7 років тому +20

      I didn't say you shouldn't express what you feel, you clearly misunderstood me :) You don't need to have a musical background to be deep, insightful or just simply polite, of course you can post something constructive without having to say anything related to music. Have a great day!

    • @homayoonkazemi9654
      @homayoonkazemi9654 7 років тому +11

      Well if you are looking for something deep and meaningful about the birds : 1-Nothing should be represented in the music or added or removed unless the composer said so otherwise .
      2-The birds are distracting in music and will shift your attention from what is actually written by the composer .
      3-The birds are already written in by the composer .
      4-Art is art because it is what it is by itself adding things is to just change the interpretation . Image symphony Fantastic by H.Berlioz , everything is written in the score and you don't need to add for example a witch laughing recorded sample or something in the 5th movement cause it shows the magic by itself .
      5-I am pretty sure if you here this live with the birds + this great performance it would be great :) I would love it also , but a recording is distracting .
      Hope this was meaningful and deep enough :)
      Cheers
      Homayoon

    • @classicalmusicanalysis
      @classicalmusicanalysis  7 років тому +19

      That's much better than "birds in the background are annoying", thank you!
      But, as a musicologist, I must say I do not support your ideas. You seem to believe in the famous French slogan "L'art pour l'art", translated as "Art for art's sake", credited to Théophile Gautier in 1835. This debate, since its first written appearance, has been criticised by authors like Frierdrich Nietzsche or George Sand because it lacks the social and functional perspective that any kind of artistic manifestation has. "Ars gratia artis" is a rather modern idea, rooted (among others) in Immanuel Kant's idealistic views on Aesthetics and in the political philosophy called Individualism. Those were ideas that had a strong impact in a time when Romanticism was beginning to take shape.
      Thus, if we take what you've said as a logical truth, in particular your 4th statement (that is, I quote, that "art is art because it is what it is by itself"), why did Vivaldi had the necessity to write the descriptive sonnets AFTER he published the concertos in a newer version he dedicated to Count Wenzel von Morzin? He sent him the famous concertos and, after a long time, when the Four Seasons had been acclaimed by the count, he republished them again with some additions. I quote Vivaldi in a letter he sent to the count: "despite having found generous favour [the four concertos] with Your Illustrious Lordship [Count Wenzel von Morzin] quite a long time ago, they are now improved and augmented *not only with the Sonnets but with a clear description of everything pictured in them*" (taken from Christopher Hogwood's introduction on Bärenreiter Urtext's edition).
      So, after the scores of the Four Seasons were published, Vivaldi wrote the sonnets and added the descriptions of the things depicted in them. He did what this recording has done: added the sound of birds even though the piece, at first, didn't specify so. Just as he added the sonnets later because he thought it would add an interesting FUNCTION (remember what I first said, the lack of social and functional perspective in the slogan "art for art's sake"), the birds in this recording add a function that someone found, at least, interesting. I don't think Vivaldi would've been a great fan of the French slogan; we must analyse the context in which he lived in, which was before this idea popularized. Vivaldi was born in 1678, in what is called the late Baroque in music, a period in Western-European history when music was still somewhat linked to the meaning of words (not only literally, but also in the semantics of instrumental music, in this case) and, more importantly, in what is called Affektenlehre or "Doctrine of the affections". I could go on an on because it is a very interesting concept, but I won't, don't worry.
      In conclusion, what I'm saying is, if art really was art because it is what it is, Vivaldi shouldn't have added the sonnets because music, from this point of view, is regarded as pure and with an intrinsic value so it doesn't need any extramusical programme or narrative. But, Vivaldi's Four Seasons are, after all, *program music*, so this argument is invalid!!!
      Thank you a lot, though, it's nice and fun to be able to have these little debates over a simple statement such as "Birds in the background are annoying"! Have a nice day and thank you for commenting! :)

      Most scores from the baroque and classical era (and even now to some extent) just have vague instructions like "Allegro" or whatever, not a specific BPM. This just means "Allegro" or "Play fast" or or whatever. Its up to the conductor or the musicians if self directing to go at the pace they prefer and interpret "allegro" how they see appropriate to their own comfort levels or what they think is appropriate to the song from THEIR perspective. If the composer really really wanted a specific speed, they'd mark it, although Im not even sure if specific BPM was a thing back in the baroque era (Maybe?). This version is faster than some others, but actually not THAT fast. A lot of really old recording are unusually fast to fit them into the wax cylinders or vinyl of the day.
