Excellent video. Nice use of hand tools. First video I've seen that employs proper use of a file (i.e. Stroke in forward direction only. Beautiful piece of work. Full marks for this one!!!!

This is a great design. I love the Japanese "kebiki" type, but not the wedged version. I like the thumb screw, but I think this could be even better. I like as much wood in the shop as possible, the little screws are hard on the hands. So far my hands are OK, but my dad had arthritis near the end, and this would be perfect for that kind of issue.
One of the most important features to me in a gauge is scouch-ability. I will set the gauge to a firm setting then by pinching with my fingers I can move the beam thous at a time. Best thing for picking up the measurement, and wood is great for this as it can slide, yet not slip. And the shoe in the Japanese Kebiki is the best I have ever seen for this. I think I will make one of these with a metal plate under the cam. I think it will be great, and probably nearly eliminate wear.
I recently made an artist's easel using a cam lever for the adjustable jaws. They are easy to make, and really nice to operate.

Thanks, glad you like my design! Your metal plate version will turn out great I'm sure!

    Greetings
    Blood happens.
I like your design for several reasons. Minimal opportunity for error. Lots of room for customization. Cam lever lock eliminates the threading and arm chaffing issues. The cam location can be changed just by rotating ends of the arm - to accommodate operation preferences. Not much to break or wear out. Make from scraps. I expect to make one like yours within the next few days. I want to figure a way to incorporate a jig saw blade with a wedge lock for the marking element.
Thank you for posting and for not incorporating some annoying muzak track.
Blessing to you and yours and best wishes on continued success working with wood.
    Handy Andy

Thank you Bob! As long as it makes a straight line I'm sure you'll get good use out of yours :)

I liked the design, what kind of finished is? Oil or wax? Regards

Thanks! It's boiled linseed oil. Thought about putting some beeswax on it too for more lubrication but it works very smoothly with just the oil.

How is your cam mechanism working after several month's use? Did it wear evenly?

It's still working perfectly! No wear as far as I can tell. Thanks for watching!

Well this video is a year old so I'd like to think I've improved my sharpening since then, but of course, you can always get better. Thanks for watching!
