    If someone would've gave me these tips when I was boxing, it would've helped me.. I was fast with my hands and feet but wasn't sitting enough on my punches. I was a defensive fighter and only relied on my reflexes and speed but power would've helped me maintain my opponent off of me..

    Number 6. My JKD instructor Cathy Gibson kinda blew my mind, way back in like 2001, with "Fast isn't fast; Smooth is fast." Practice, practice, practice: then speed up. Can't do it slow, sure as hell can't do it fast. Don't rush. Get the perfect motion and then work on the speed.
    Oh other tip. Anything you can do Stepping forward can be done with a step back. Want to throw that hook knockout, let him step forward as you slide one foot back. Hip rotation is hip rotation, momentum works both ways.

  • @ASSman864
    @ASSman864 2 роки тому +10

    The biggest single tip that increased my power i learned from bas rutten, he advises not to pivot on the lead foot when you throw the lead hook. Felt akward day 1 but by day 2 i felt the power increase.
    Pivoting can be nice for transitional shots like a check hook but for just power alone try not pivoting bro. It also follows rule #2 here which is keep your feet on the ground,
    Not only does it make your lead hook feel stronger but it makes your hook return back to guard much faster too.

    • @ASSman864
      @ASSman864 2 роки тому +4

      And for the jab check out sonny liston he walked with his rear foot first then quickly flicks his left foot out to regain his wider stance but when he adds the jab to that its brutal because by stepping with the back foot first it squares him up and creates more space for the jab to travel, then when he throws the jab hes instantly back in a more bladed stance suiting his long arms

    • @Kayweiland
      @Kayweiland Рік тому

      @@ASSman864 yeah he dosent pivot he switches stance, so there need to be some kind of rotation if you want to put your body weight into a punch, tyson did this pretty good, switch stance, rotate hip,rotate shoulders thats where his power came from, kinetic energy. other people use pivot to produce kinetic energy. but,,, if there is no rotation means no kinetic energie, means your punch will never be the same as someones who uses kinetic energie. if you stand on your feet flat you are a big target first of all an the kinec energie is missing

    • @ASSman864
      @ASSman864 Рік тому

      @@Kayweiland wrong. You can rotate without pivoting bruh its the upper body that creates the rotational force. Plus its energy not energie, you clearly arent fit to be having this conversation

    That video was fire!!! Loved how you taught detailed and clear and you were really ripping those shots. I agree with every single thing you said. I really like these kind of videos Because it gives me a checklist. A list of things to go over in my head as I train or even mentally, evaluate myself. It reminds me of what I should be doing.
    Much respect to you coach A
    Thank you and God bless
    Edit: I just wanted to say I did get something new from this video, at least something I never put too much thought into ,and that's to take time to make sure your shot is there. I seem to always be in a hurry, I see the shot, I go for it immediately "before it's too late".

    Hey coach Anthony! Do you mind making a video in the future on how to block punches without gloves? Because I train in Mixed Martial Arts and I noticed that the blocks that we perform with 16oz gloves on cannot be applied the same way with bareknuckle, due to the change in precision or surface area of the weapon.
