    If our present taxes do not cover sewers what do they cover? Toronto's city planner makes over $350000 tax dollars a year, you know the guy who does not include water and sewer infrastructure in city planning! Maybe he deserves a pay cut instead of tax payers taking another pay cut! It is appalling that our government officials are all increasing their wealth while the average Canadian is being taxed into poverty! And the BT reporters support this!!!! Must be nice to be making the same kind of money politicians do! FU BT for supporting tyranny!!!! Rain tax is another example of taxation without representation!!!!!

    The TTC is losing 124 million on fare evasion. I'm sure people have money for rain tax... Toronto will soon be a barren wasteland similar to Detroit.

    • @uptonogood1893
      @uptonogood1893 Місяць тому +2

      If the TTC would take away the "honor system" then fare evasion wouldn't happen so frequently. (I'm referring to, when a streetcar arrives at a transfer point, the driver allows those who have a transfer to enter by the back door. If you have to pay, you enter by the front. Lots of people who haven't paid would sneak in the back.) Then there are people who jump the turnstiles. But people who own property normally don't do that. Then there was the group who were making counterfeit tokens. Is that still happening?

    • @petegrusky2715

    Heehee...I lived in Toronto/Mississauga for 25 years...retire ..my wife and I moved west of KW. I hate the GTA, too "dark" and too foreign, it's certainly not Toronto as I remembered, but what I really find I do not miss...there is so much...but the taxes. Rain tax...anywhere in the world it would be dystopian (or if you prefer Liberal), but ...well it's Toronto and it kind of ...no makes perfect sense. Quickly becoming a failing city, the "Chow" will tax whatever moves..she is so left ...even Justin admires her...and we all know he only admires himself. Once a shining light of Canadian greatness 30 years ago...the decline a Toronto has been sharp and fast. Remember the business exodus from Montreal due to complete idiocy back in 1970s to Toronto? Go west young man...Calgary, Edmonton is going to eat your lunch Toronto, and the sad thing is you did it to yourself. NO Vancouver, stop licking your chops...you make Toronto look like a picture of common sense.

    This lady said "Toronto does need the revenue" but if they were more responsible in spending the billions they collect, they wouldn't "need the additional revenue". They could start by stopping the waste on those stupid bike lanes that only increase congestion or painting street lanes "liberal red" for transit use identification (apparently bus drivers wouldn't know where to drive otherwise) or changing the name of Dundas Street... just a few suggestions.

    My town implemented rain tax to “get money” from University which pays no property tax by law. $4 a month for 1/4 acre added to water bill. Still several property tax increases to hire new employees. Now looking at 30% property tax increase to pay for wages and benefits. Taxes on rental properties proposed but threatened by lawfare by landlords even though other municipalities have them. Head tax on students opposed by University. Both need to get state approval. Doubtful. Revenue never ending appetite.

    I have seen the City of Toronto proposal and taken their survey. There is NOTHING in it that says each homeowner will be taxed according to the amount of paving square footage. It is a flat tax per square footage of what you own, in a few broad bands - they don’t care that I have 4% paving (for my half of a right of way) or that the monster house opposite me, on smaller footprint, has 85% paved. I would pay the same as they. The larger homes however, the millionaires, will get a rebate ... paid for by us, the little old ladies who don’t have three cars in the driveway, just city trees that tear up the sidewalk and ruin our 100 year old plumbing. I mean the house’s plumbing ;) This is on top of the 10% general property tax increase. DISGUSTING! Please have me on your programme to explain this

    If Toronto needs more revenue, Toronto could tolling roads on all major routes. Toronto could also get more revenue in the sale of people homes. The city of Toronto could bring in a 2 % tax from the sale of your home if you decide to move for any reason.
    Hopefully, Toronto can generate more revenue by bringing in municipal sales.
