- Just discovered that the 3rd gen Ram brakes are a bolt-on for the 2nd gen trucks. Since I needed new rear brakes I figured why not.

I just found out about this upgrade as well. Thank you for the video. I will be doing this to my 01 2500 very soon. Did the wheels bolt right up? I've heard some people having issues with the center bore not fitting over the older hubs.
I had no issue with fitment. Maybe there is an issue with different axles or possibly a year break withing the generations that caused a change? I have no idea.
@@Chumley360 That could be the issue. I will be sure to test fit before buying. The important issue is the brake upgrade. I did the front a couple years back, but was unsure of the rear 3rd gen parts fitting till now. This will be my next project. Thank you.
What is the name of the caliper kit? or do just buy a 2004 dodge 2500 rear brake kit?
@@arturo052685 It's all just the OEM 3rd gean parts. Just make sure you get the calipers with brackets so they clear the larger rotors.
Curious if you went with rebuilt calipers or new calipers? I've done the front but I'm doing the rear here soon when i replace all four rotors and calipers.
I went with new on this. The price was very reasonable.
I’m prob gonna buy 3rd gen calipers only because I can’t find new 2nd gen calipers now. Only rebuilt ones.
@@bigmurph68 I went through RockAuto for these parts. Even after shipping they were half the in town costs. I'm pretty sure you want to make sure your 3rd gen calipers come with caliper brackets, I'm pretty sure that's the important part. I believe the calipers are the same, but the brackets are longer to compensate for the larger rotor diameter. I could be wrong, but I think that's how it is.
