Right there with ya...64 here and I wouldn't trade my time in the 60's/70's for anything!! All the things I did...and there is no record of it...We were lucky! Music is a great time machine...what else out there can transport you to a different time all with a few simple chords.
I am still living in the 70's music wise...64 now...I think this is one of the best era's of music....followed closely by the 60's and 80's..Today's music ain't got no soul!!!
@@jorgemartin5093It sounded deeper and more weathered but certainly not bad. I would even say it lent a certain degree of character to this performance. The original recording sounds like the tender reflections of a young man who has been touched by the love of someone and is thinking about their relationship together. This version makes me think more of a wistful older middle aged man reminiscing about someone from his past when he was younger who may no longer be in his life in one form or another but has undoubtedly had a great impact upon him. His voice sounds rugged at points here but that adds to the notion that he, the man in this song, has been transformed through time and experience. A beautiful song and nice performance by Lake nevertheless even with any differences in his voice.
@@seamusin1697 do u like Boz Burrel voice on Islands album??? For me he was the best. Though i think Peter Hanmill is the greatest forgotten singer, poet and creator from all England...I used to love Greg Lake too.
This song has been stuck in my head ever since inheriting my late brother’s Stratocaster. I received the guitar just a few days ago. He passed in early December. We never knew each other, I was given up for adoption at birth, yes..I am the oldest of three sons. We were scheduled to all meet last December, but mental illness robbed us of that chance. The one thing that ran through all three of us, was the love of playing guitar. To my late brother David, and to Sean who I finally met in Oakland last Tuesday, I love you both, and barely know either, but our love for the guitar will always bring us closer..From The Beginning. RIP Greg..RIP David Lampton.
@@lisamoroney3036 thank you Lisa, I have been blown away by this whole thing. Your response makes it just a little bit more real, it is a crazy BUT TRUE experience and one that I never expected to happen to me.
I think Greg Lake may have been the BEST ROCK SINGER to ever take the stage...his voice was beautiful...honorable mentions were Steve Perry, Timothy B. Schmidt and Benjamin Orr.
The sound of the early seventies post Beatles. The era of the singer/songwriter........It was the decade that fashion forgot...drugs, gas shortages, Watergate, Elton John's beginning, Jethro Tull, Cashman and West, and Emerson, Lake and Palmer. From the beginning was a wonderful and haunting piece. Thank you.
crazy enough the music brings tears to my eyes, and THEN while listening, to read the comments that brings on more tears--not to be snooty, but WE know---we just do
Thank you all for this today. This song came into my head today. It is all clear, you (I) was meant to be here. The guitar work priceless. The words of love eternal.
A brief story. I had the honor of seeing these masters of rock back in the mid-1970's. What a show. One word - GREAT! Each one just so good at what they were doing.. ARTISTS...
This song is a musical time machine. It always takes me back to my youth. Rest In Peace Greg and Keith. Along with Carl you guys were light years ahead of everyone else.
Today's music just cannot do what this music did. There was something truly mind expanding and communal about it. Perhaps it was the nature of the kind of drugs popular then. Today's music and drugs are all about "me, myself and mine". I wonder if the music of those golden moments between 67 and 74 will ever repeat in the future. I understsand it was all a byproduct of the times. The social-revolution. The youth movement. The war. The evolution of rock and pop music that the world has never seen before, but. I hope that music isn't lost to us forever. A day will come when there will be very few of us who will either beable to recall it or even say they have even heard of it. I only hope that music finds a way to be as expansive and open as the music of that era. Are there any real movements left to be had?
Thanks for these beautiful compositions, Greg. These wonderful songs will live on forever. Rest in Peace and say hi to Keith Emerson from all of us !!!! RIP Just nine months after Keith ! Who would have thought 2016 would steal both of you from us.
My brother turned me on to this song way back in '72. I remember the 8 track was pink plastic, with the normal Trilogy label. Since then, I've bought it on album, cassette, CD, and streamed. It's one of my prog rock favorites.
AS my brother below states, I am 76! I followed each group each member was with prior to ELP> They were fantastic there but together they blend superior musicianship with a magic sound! Ride on..I am a 50-60's man! But 1970 was magical for for many British groups!
I've seen these guys many times live and they have never disappointed me or anyone else that saw them live on those occasions. And they never bang out their tunes by wrote they always leave room for some fine improvisation. True Professionals.
I’m 61 now and this music brings memories of all good times. If ever get my time machine working, I’m going back to the ‘70’s and staying there !!!
I hear you!
Sell tickets. There will be a boomer line.
Yeah right! Pre-oil crisis ‘70s so we can also still drive those wicked muscle cars and have an 8 track in it with ELP and stuff..
