@@rapidJesse the whole concert feautes trevor dunn, he is the bass player of the show
What could be more Hendrix-ish than making crazy sounds in the middle of classic song? Well done Nels
I love it , this is a real tribute , not just another band with a guy sporting a wig and a Fender strat playing Hendrix's gtr licks verbatim 👍🏻
And why is the other not a tribute??
totaly disagree
Its really hard to do Hendrix ... only one Ive seen who does Hendrix great is Randy Hansen!
I can't believe this has only 252 likes. This has to be one of the greatest guitar performances ever recorded. A true tribute to Jimi, proving that he invented a large chunk of modern music, including experimental/noise music.
I love seeing the St Vincent guitar show up in unexpected places. Sounded great in Kirk's hands.
What a great surprise to find this performance. Up for 4 years and I just found it jeez I don’t know how I missed this. Thank you for posting this.
This concert is simply majestc and mindblowing ! Need to spread the world ! lets go on that mission :)
Until seeing this video I had never seen anyone cover "Beginnings," among Hendrix's more obscure posthumous releases..
I believe I have heard someone cover "1983: A Merman I Shall Turn To Be."
Early in the video Nels Cline even imitates Hendrix testing his tuning.
I have known about Nels Cline, who usually plays jazz and fusion, since 1992. He is not a good singer, as this video shows, but he is a guitar god--as this video also shows.
He's about as good a singer as Hendrix was, so it works out.
amazing to see a Beginnings cover! and Capt Kirk absolutely set 1983 on fire, good lord.
Nels is the mad scientist of guitar abuse. truly unbelievable talent!
He’s a incredible jazz guitarist too. I saw him with Wilco years ago. And I’m starting to go back and listen to the later albums he played on. And also his earlier music and I really appreciate how broad his talent is.
Great Tribute!!!! I Loved Third stone from the sun!!!
Trevor
We want a world tour.
Nels!!!!!!
The drummer is keeping everything right, much like Mitch did with Jimi
Nice Mitch tribute in the back!
the master covers the master!
thanks!
This is great!
amazing
Oh my god thanks for uploading this.
Brilliant
just awesome
Great!!! marvellous!! not an usual Hendrix tribute, but an original one!!!
Wow this is unusual hendrix tribute, great !!!❤️
Hell Yeah! Nels Rocks!
Drifting is amazing stuff!
fuckin classic!!
The beginning to voodoo child was abysmal, but otherwise fantastic as always. Nels and Trevor always do it right together, never heard of the drummer but my god he kicks ass, him and Trevor held the whole thing together so well, perfect compliment to Nels' crazy and sporatic (in the best way) playing! Excellent.
Agree… voodoo child was rough, but it sounded like the pedal wasn’t working properly.
How have I never seen this before??! One of the very greatest paying tribute to the Greatest Of All Time. And hot damn, I had no idea Sean Lennon was such a good guitar player! Anybody know what that Magnatone that Nels is using is?
It is a Magnatone/Panoramic stereo amplifier. The great tones and two chevrons in the bottom corner of the grille, right side facing the audience gives it away.
Sean Lennon is not his father. He is a real musical talent in his own right.
OMG! Didn't know I needed to hear this so badly right now! Very satisfying performance.
This is a tribute Jimi would really get behind, in my opinion - superb, Nels!
Is that the bass player for Mr. Bungle? Trevor dunn?
Indeed, it is
Thanx for playing rarely covered Hendrix's tunes...(especially 1983...) I've rarely heard a guitar player who can cover all the faces of hendrix's game...Thanx mr Cline...and who is the man singing and playing guitar on 1983?
PipoloffVideo that would be Kirk Douglas, of the Roots.
Thanx for answering back!

Anyone know where to find proper soundboard mix
I love how the bassist is looking at his sheet music for the intro lol
you have no idea who this is, right? :D
lool :D
@@kulesa who is it?
Dang I didn’t know Nels could sing!
hang on. at 23 minutes or so, video and sound are much improved
A little space, but great !
This is very new for me. Can you explain this band a bit?
punk rock hendrix
I’m a little late to the party but what are the devices Nels is “playing” with his hands on top of the crate?
Multi-effects units, one is a looper, pitch shifter, all kinds of crazy stuff.
@@jimmythefish Thanks
There are rig rundowns that show is upper pedal board. Notably are an 80s EHX 16 second delay. He was introduced to that by Bill Frisell and is a wizard with it. Also a Korg Kaoss pad, usually used by DJs.
Wish he did machine gun but this was outstanding
Definitely has the essence if Hendrix but not the virtuosity I definitely give it to Nels though Good stuff 👍
If I didn’t see the title of this video.
Nah
