Surely they have to tear down this car, it is Tesla's second best selling vehicle after the Y after all, and a lot of competitors are going to want to see what they have done to achieve the improvements in the car's NVH, cost reduction, innovations, etc.? The Cybertruck by comparison is a relatively niche vehicle (albeit with its own interesting 'under the skin' innovations. I am dying to see what they have improved on here, hoping they've utilised all the learnings from the Y and gone even further!

After less than a week with my new M3+, I like it even better each time I drive it! My 'Day 1' M3 was the best car I have ever had in many decades of driving and the only one that I kept for over three years. This new one is significantly more refined and even, perhaps sophisticated. There are many small things, like the magnetic catches on the glovebox and center console lid, the smoother and quieter ride, to the pleasing 'thunk' of the doors that contribute to it being a vehicle that is greater than the sum of its parts. All the good things of the original are there, only better!

I don't know what current Bolts are like, but I had a 2020 Bolt for a couple of years and everything about it felt like crap. No one in the family liked riding in the car. The only good thing I can say about it is that it didn't use pollution juice for propulsion. Within the 1st month there was talk of how would get get rid of the POS. Luckily used car prices went crazy and we traded it for slightly more than we paid for it. I couldn't in good conscience sell it to a person.

I prefer the distinctive "frog" look of the original Model 3. You know it's a Tesla. The refresh could be any car manufacturer. The refresh interior: the light strip is annoying and the new dashboard looks and feels cheap. The refresh door feels too high, inside because the armrest is much lower. Not having stalks isn't too bad but the plastic on the steering wheel feels like cheap plastic. I like the new seats and the suspension and interior sound quality is noticeably improved. Too many buttons on the steering wheel though. I'll be happy keeping my 2023 3. Oh! Almost forgot. The door closes effortlessly and with a confident thump. Sounds firm and solid over the original, which Almost sold me on the refresh.

I drove the Model 3 "Highland".
I think what makes Tesla's look so good is the fish tank like bubble which is clean and lets everyone see inside. The White seats and Ambient lightning make it look really upscale - even when it really isn't.
The plastic "vegan leather" looks great in White - and equally decent in Black.
The center display looks futuristic even though it complicates simplistic controls normally handled by hard buttons.
I really like the Model 3 Highland, but it's the Model Y refresh I'm more anxious to see. THE Model Y is more practical and that's why it sells so well worldwide.

I fkn hate buttons. My model 3 was recently sideswiped and it's in the shop getting fixed. The rentals have more buttons on the steering wheel alone than any video game controller. Then there's more buttons on the door, more buttons on the left side of the dash, more buttons on the right side of the dash, more buttons on the console near the gear shift. More buttons on the ceiling.

the new 'body in white' of the new Highland Model 3 that Tesla had published instead.
    - In fact, the most noticeable changes from the previosus Model 3 are:
    (1) the removal of the front firewall but also (2) the removal of the rear speaker shelf,
so making the Model 3 as a hatchback or a Shooting brake estate would be no so difficult.
However, no front or rear casting was introduced for this new Highland Model 3.
    - I imagine that introducing casting would have require more changes to the production line, adding more cost,
and maybe there was not enough capacity for making additional casting from the existing ModelY and Cybertruck Giga press.

Thank you for your great video, it's always informative. I hope you will perform the tear down soon!

Sandy may think the stalk delete is a non-issue but he’s wrong. I’m a User Experience developer and the steering wheel buttons fall far short of the functionality of the stalks from the previous generation. Namely, when turning, the buttons move with the wheel, forcing the user to locate them to engage/disengage signals. In Europe, roundabouts are a thing and require signalling to exit. With this design the driver’s left hand must be in the 7 o’clock position while turning to use the wheel buttons. The gear selection now requires touchscreen interaction and visual confirmation of drive direction. Before, reliable physical feedback provided certainty that the correct direction was selected. Single wipe, washer fluid spray, headlight flash and full beam could all be controlled with the left stalk and a left hand. Now some of these driving actions are on the right side of the wheel, requiring two hands more of the time. This change is more of the “the best part is no part” horseshit Musk subscribes to, it conveys no actual benefits and should be criticised as such.

with a stalk that's no issue. with buttons it is. not very coomon in NA where straight roads and right angle turns are the norm. very much an issue everywhere else.

That $35K Tesla announced in 2016 would be $45K today (29% inflation over the last 8 years). Another way to look at it is the current $39K price would have been $29K in 2016. It is directly competitive with ICE, without the maintenance hassles, expensive gas, noise and pollution issues of ICE.

The Bolt scaled up to $35k with options, and it came with quite a bit in the base trim. It started at $26k before tax credits. And it eclipsed the M3 in terms of cargo space.
I love the teardowns, but it always seems like Tesla gets graded on a curve, in this case Carl gave the M3 a $10k curve and a whole segment curve.
