Lily bell on bleeds is just *chefs kiss*. In P7s it is just the best. Negates the spark of life entirely. And during P8s, I found it super good during manifold, it’ll go off at the end after we take the stack/spreads and we get healed usually to almost full before we run out to the safe corner. The satisfaction of watching health bars shoot back up to full. So good.
I think my problem with Lilybell is the recast time. I know it's powerful, but on SCH, I always feel like my big CDs are up for big attacks. But on WHM, I use Lilybell for one...and then it won't be up for the next one. Like in Erik, I want it for Four-fold, but I feel iffy about using it at other times because of fearing it won't be up when I need it, which isn't true for most other healer CDs like Seraph or Expedience, which I know will be up again relatively soon. It is nice as a "Eos-lite" since I can stick it in the middle of the field and even if I get sent outside on Four-fold so that my own AOEs can't reach the far corners, Lilybell can, just like a SCH sending Eos to the middle of the field. I feel like it's like WoW's Holy Priest Lightwell (I'm thinking the Wrath/Cata era); a powerful ability that people don't like because it can be weird to use and has some issues. But honestly? Even if no one every used Lilybell, WHM is still straightforward, understandable healing that just works. While some people might find WHM boring, it's straightforward and does the job in a no frills, "just the facts, ma'am" way, that I find to be a good thing and I know a lot of other people, especially beginners or people who aren't hypercompetitive, feel the same way. It does the job, it does it well, and it is approachable and understandable. All good things for a healer. And if you're a Final Fantasy fan to begin with, can't go wrong with the White Mage aesthetic and class fantasy as s kindhearted healer. : )
I love these 7 reasons vids they’re short but sweet and it’s also got easy explanations for all of their abilities in an easy to understand format. Plus you explain the math. I FEEL the power of the math behind white mage just from playing it, like you said white mage has the chonkiest heals around, but I’d be lying if I said I understood all the numbers. White Mage is white light and sparkles and devastating repeat spell fire with the easiest to understand “oh shit” buttons out of all the healers. Like yeah Astro is easy to play too, but white mage has the healing power to make sure everyone lives to at least vuln stack 3.
I love WM right now last patch really made leveling so much better. Only thing Id personally want to see added to WM is Assize actually having 2 stacks and to have Tetragrammaton give an additional effect like to remove a debuff, for extra utility.
I played White Mage in 2013 to 2020 (I was forced to play DPS despite years of being a WHM midway through Eden's Gate, and Eden's Verse we made it to the second raid and got forced out. I quit the game after). But I always adored the White Mage. It's fitting for my personality. Meanwhile I don't have time or interest to pick the game back up, I miss my White Mage high life. I was recognized on the server for being one of the better!
I like White Mage a lot and probably as close to a main as I have. The only main wish I have is to make the DPS rotation more interesting. Like make Presence of Mind change your Glare III (wish they just named it Glarega like in JP) to a stronger spell with new animation, it would at least be more interesting visually. AND RENAME IT LILYBELL SE YOU COWARDS!
I know that I'm 8 months late, but I want to say that your point about lilly bell snapshotting heals and not being subject to human reaction time or error. This is the exact reason people in guild wars 1 strongly prefer to take hero (ai) healers in their groups. Because they have inhuman reaction time to damage you take, and statuses that need to be removed.
Honestly whm was my last healer to level but coming from an ast main whm's playstyle was just was too much of a brake check for me personally. But hey, you've made some great points. Looking forward to your future content!
One thing i want to see on WM that i think could be alot of fun but might be OP is to have lillies go back to 30 seconds but now have Assize be a lilly spell. That would really spice up the rotation for WM and improve its MP sustain drastically. Could be very intresting and keep away from the current Glare and Holy spam.
I wish the lilies weren't tied to misery. The need to restrict the use of a DPS ability feels like it's holding back the QOL that could be added for the job. I love White Mage but I won't use them in some content, hunt trains for example, because you aren't in a place long enough to gain any lilies since they only generate in combat so you are continually starting from zero. Whereas a scholar gets aetherflow full immediately and sage earns addersgall out of combat. As a healer, the job feels great, but I just wish the lilies could be closer in function to addersgall in reward and earning with misery maybe just being a timed ability or just use 3 lilies and if you want to waste them all at the start just to do damage, you do you.

Another reason is holy, which is extremely valuable during trash pulls. Essentially 7 secs of complete damage mitigation, for every group of mobs.
