- A quick comparison between the 2 chamber Flowmaster 40's with an X pipe vs 3 Chamber Delta Flows using an H pipe. I made this change and couldn't find any good videos so I made one.
I still prefer the 2chamber original 40’s, gives that ever so classic Flowmaster sound👌🏻👌🏻
No doubt
Too tin canny sounding for my old ears. Flowmasters make everything sound like a 1980’s 5.0 Foxbody. I guess if you grew up in the era. I grew up with glass packs.
@@danmyers9372 glass packs are garbage to me. just end up blowing the fiberglass out of them with some power
40s sound way too good 👍
indeed
The 40 series flowmaster with a big block chevy.....there is no better sound then that!. Your car is beautiful. Thanks for rhe video.
Gotta love the 50s. Nice and deep, low rumble. Not too loud. Until you hit it. Thanks! Great comparison.
The thing is : no matter what setup you use, that ride is always going to sound good.
That was a simple, but great comparison. Thanks for that.
Thanks for watching Buzz! I'm not expecting a million views from this just hoping to show these results. Finding the right sound is difficult as you well know.
Your car has the perfect look for a 68 Chevelle SS. The color, stance, engine and trans, all just right. Even the wheels, well maybe Cragar SS.
Thank you Sir! I like the Cragars too but prefer the aluminum drag wheels . 👍
@@vdrivevideo Where have I seen that car before? Nobody would guess thats a 540 nice clean job
As older (68) hot rodder I really prefer the sound of the 50’s. A little mellower and they cut down the “tin can” sound of traditional Flowmasters which I personally don’t care for.
I'm with you. That tinny sound is what's so intrusive when you're trying to have a conversation. Their 50-series Big Block SUV muffler is the best muscle car muffler I've heard.
idle gives you goosebumbs
I'm liking the Delta's. Thank you for sharing.
This is an EXCELLENT exhaust video & comparison. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
No comparison Delta flow 50 sounds like music to my ears.
Nice and clean
Always loved the sound of a H pipe with 3 chamber Flowmaster, I do it to all my vehicles... even my V8 powered Japanese Crossover.
Nice car my first car was a 69 chevelle I bought it from the guy across the street from me I was 141/2 years old I had to Waite 6 months until I turned 15 to drive it. I have a 427 60 over the short block is forged srp 30cc dome pistons the good gm dimple rods with a forged crank afr aluminum heads victory Jr. Intake and a atm 950 cfm carburetor turbo 400 with a manual valve body 3500 stall I'm getting ready to put it in my 88 monte carlo ss it will be a decent street car that can run in the 10 second index class on motor.
Got Flowmaster 40's on my 1998 chev truck , LOVE THEM! 50's too mild!
My vote, 3 chamber and H pipe, always H pipe for the win. Or no crossover. Old school sound with no raspiness for anything older than say '93. Any pushrod motor except a Ford SOHC 427.
Great video I like the 40's
40's are for sure the move. I've ran them in both my current and previous trucks. So mean, yet humble.
love these! got 2 coming for the nova. peace
I like it! But I’m old school I love the original 2chambers can’t beat em but it still sounds good. I get the loud part but I’m already hard of hearing from too many years of loud exhaust and equipment anyway haha so give me the 2’s hahaha. Fine car that’s my favorite gen!!
The 50s are just a tad quieter.i like them better over the 40s.thanks for showing us.great info
Same with me. MangaFlow about the same money, but no umph! I've run 40s 44s 10s and outlaws, on various cars, and trucks. I'm flowmaster. Your car is bomb.❤
Magnaflow straight through mufflers sound like a boat never liked them at all
I went with the 3" PYPES SYSTEM ON MY 66'IMPALA SS ZZ502/600HP..5SPD,3:42 EVERRYWHERE I GO SOME ONE COMES UP AND SAYS CAR SOUNDS SO BADASS,.PEACE,,,NICE RIDE MY FRIEND
Personally i like the big block 70s, mellow cruise but aggressive throttle.
I BEEN USING THE SUPER 44 BUT THIS TIME ON MY 68 C10 IM GONNA GET THE 3 CHAMBER 50 NOT AS LOUD AND STILL HAVE A DEEP TONE THATNKS FOR VIDEO
From the sample, I can tell this is a nice raucous cam that would be right at home in a 60s drag car. The 40 lets that personality out. A cool cop should have no problem with it. On the other hand, if you want to be more lowkey or have a jerk cop citing for noise, the 50 is a better choice. If you use your car for long distances (eg. LA to Pismo Beach and back), you're better off with the 50. Loud exhausts --even when cool-- wear down the people listening. For what it's worth, I can still make out the cam's personality with the 50s. It's just not as obvious.
Original 40s sound so good 👌
Nice, throaty growl. Sounds great to me.
The 3 chambers sound great
2 Chamber OG 40's all day long.
Music to my Eyes Beautiful
Your Chevelle is beautiful!
I like the more define lope provided by the 50 here, but ill be running Delta Flow 40 on mine.
Sweet ride, great sound!
i liked the first one.
Sweet Chevelle you have there👍🏻
Helpful. Thanks!
Thank for posting- I actually like both but I think it would be less droning in the car with the 50 series. Now I wonder what the 50 series with an X-pipe would be like?...
Perfect
Wow …..beautiful sound…..awesome
Wow big difference much better
Howdy neighbor! I live literally right up the street (San Sevaine) just north of the 210. I'm kinda diggin the Delta flows on your BBC.
You recognized the streets? That's great! haha!
They both sound fantastic but the 3" system is off the meter for sound track. Thanks!
Drove to and from Pomona swap meet from the sfv....ears rang the rest of the afternoon. 2 chaber 40s went in the trash where they belong
Dynomax ultraflows sound killer on a cammed up chevy. Had 50 series on a C4 they had a much more tolerable sound
Car looks great! What brand and model wheels are those?
Thanks! Weld Pro Stars.
Glad i have a house in the country alone.
I prefer the h pipe and 3 chamber, had a deeper and much cleaner sound!
Agreed!
I listened to this video again and definitely the 3chamber and h-pipe sound so much better:did you ever consider the borla pro xs? These mufflers have a very aggressive sound with very little drone. Oh by the way, good-looking chevelle!!
@@rexspangler4641 Out of all the mufflers I used over the decades I've never owned a pair of Borla mufflers or known someone who has. Maybe I owe them a listen. Thanks!
I love the flowmaster super 30s or the 10
The 3 chamber sounds deeper warmer and better
Great video... a lways helpful when looking for a new exhaust. Did you get the 50 series delta flow or the 40 series? Any idea on the dB level?
50’s! Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comments! 🙂
Super 40s will give you the deeper 2-chamber sound without the droning.
I have 2 chamber Jegs Flowmasters and 3" full exhaust behind a 400+ hp 401 FE. Too loud. What percentage quieter do you think the 50s are compared to the 40s? Like you said, kinda subjective, depending on what it's doing, idling, part throttle, wide open. Mine is pure straight duals, no crossover. Too much of a cracking for lack of a better word, on both a sharp whack of the throttle and medium hard acceleration. I need to find something a bit quieter.
It’s hard to describe but the difference is noticeable both in and out of the car. The 50’s are a deeper yet quieter note. Also noteworthy is the cross pipe. It also tames it down a tick as well as adding a smoothness to the lower rpm range. I highly recommend the cross pipe and IMo I even like the cross pipe over the x pipe. Good luck and thanks for watching!
50s are notably quieter but they make 70 series that really pipe things down but still have the FM exh note
@@vdrivevideo Only put on an X to help kill high frequency noise to quiet it down
Best exh I ever had was duals with no crossover at all sound wise. NExt choice would be another H
Badass lit`em up!
I can't wait for Autoclub dragway to open up. I'm starting to think it'll never happen.
sound good my brother i have 40 series on my 1990 k5 blazer i think my sound has faded they been on there over 15 years my engine was burning oil so i build the engine but from the old engine i got alot of mud out my exhaust tail pipes it may be in the mufflers also im gonne buy me some new ones..it seens like i dont have that bass sound enymore..i wonder how long theses mufflers suppose to last...the 40 series delted sound better to me nice bass in it ..i think i might change my mind and get them 400 series delted ..and by the way that cam you got in there sound real good..
It doesn’t sound like it lost much of that normal Flowmaster tone, which is a good thing! Is it noticeably quieter inside?
Significantly quieter inside. It's a deeper yet lower decibel sound imo.
@@vdrivevideo awesome, thank you. My car has 3.5” pipes, 2 chambers and no tailpipes. I love the sound but it’s too loud. If going down to 3” pipe, delta flows and tailpipes quiets it down but keeps the tone I’ll be happy. Yours sounds great!
Any drone? Thinking delta 40
Zero drone.
Will you be at the Connecticut cabin fever car show in Naugatuck April 2nd and 3rd? I’m loving what I see for the line up so far.
Sounds great looking do the same for my 69 big block do you know the part number for the Patriot headers thank you
I don't remember, but I did relocate one of the tubes on the passenger side for lower control arm perch clearance.
Would you mind making a video of the 50 series exhaust at a similar distance as 0:52 in your video?
Try 53 seconds in this video. ua-cam.com/video/QXBC-HEmD8c/v-deo.html
50 super or 50s delta?
My ‘72 C10 454+0.030” has Hooker Super Comp headers 2” primaries...3” collectors, 3” Dr Gas x-pipe, 2 chamber Delta Flows, 2-1/2” tailpipes out the back.... nothing sounds better in my opinion! These snotty nose kids that think it’s all bark get a big surprise when they jump on it.....😂
No question the 50s sound better. But what's the subject for people trying to hear this through their phones is the louder muffler sound okay at idle through the phone. But what people don't know if they were there and you gave it some gas and be raggedy loud sounding and that 50 would not
No revs?
But no rev or drive by comparison?
You can tell just from idle theres an improvement
What’s that 8.1 In the background sound like!?? Lol
It sounds quiet and boring. lol
@@vdrivevideo I’ve got an 8.1 crew cab with a magna flow. Sounds great
@@garrettbenson7743 Stock with a muffler?
@@vdrivevideo correct. With Cats. Just our fifth wheel puller. 2002 LT2 crew with 100k miles. I’m second owner since 40k. Dry Texas truck. We love it.
@@vdrivevideo I am going to do some flowmaster 44s on my 65 GTO. What do you think? 40s or 44s if I want it pretty loud but lower resonating sound inside. It’s a 421 big block.
Wowww sweat
2 sounds better
