      The reason he is not celebrating is because he realizes at the international level, his goal is the gold medal. In Chicago, if he smart enough to realize he is not in cup contention for at least a few years, so he celebrates and show boats to put asses in seats, that is his job. This is competing for your nation, he won't smile until he has gold around his neck.

      @@joelmacdonald6994 I don't think most understand where is this coming from anyway... I'll copy a post I wrote elsewhere, maybe it will make sense a bit more:
      It's just a "cultural" misunderstanding I think. Here in Czechia this tournament is basically the peak o the season. people are going crazy, celebrating every point every good shot on the ice, every game is packed, there's regularly 10k+ people on a group stage matches between anyone, not even a home team group game. It's a big event with strong cultural impact. Poeple here are watching NHL highlights int he mornign just to see whether their team (boston especially) finally gets eliminated so that Pastrnak can arrive and help to win a medal..
      It's a different story. This is it. Home soil World Championship.
      And into this, an 18 yo hockey player from Canada comes, scores goals and doesn't even celebrate? does he even care? ...
      Imagine you have a situation that somebody arrives to the NHL playoffs (not even playing regular season), starts playing against some rival and then acts like business as usual when he scores. like nothing important is happening.
      Oh and another piece of the puzzle: Canada blew a 5 goal lead against a huge underdog (Austria) in the third period. It would be like a top NHL team blowing 6-1 playoff lead against San Jose. And in that game Bedard would not celebrate his goal being on the top team. be kinda like yeah whatever....
      Hey, I am not saying it's completely fair or unfair criticism, I am just trying to paint you a picture where some of this may start to make sense.

      100% spot on. I was by no means a great hockey player but a decade ago back in high school we played a team once (first and only time we played them) and I could tell just watching them warm up that they weren't even close to as good as us, I scored in the opening minute of the game and didn't even lift my arms afterwards, just skated back to the bench like my goal put us up 15-1 .. which happen to be the final score that game. Morale of the story, if I an mediocre hockey player can recognize the time/place to celly or not celly then obviously an elite top player in the game like Bedard can do the same

    • @rosik3930
      @rosik3930 22 дні тому +1

      You write this like there is NHL and everything else are just beer leagues. But that’s not true. Every nation sent their best players to the turnament and there is a lot of quality in Europian leagues. Obviously lower than NHL but still. It is also about dedication, team play, etc. For example, Lukas Sedlak played 3rd or 4th line in Philly and stil had 20-30 point per season but he rather went to the Czech Extraliga to the team Dynamo Pardubice where he played 1st line a got to the finals of the league while Philly can’t even make it to the first round of play-offs.

    • @arkwill14
      @arkwill14 22 дні тому +1

      @@rosik3930 You're making my point. Yes, there are quality hockey players all over the world. But the NHL players, because of the fortunes that can be made there, are the best of the best. There's nothing higher so the NHL is where the _very_ best talent ceilings out and accumulates. And like you said, Sedlak is a stud when he plays outside the NHL -- but within the NHL he's an average player on a non-playoff team. Bringing up how his NHL team is struggling doesn't really support your point. If the Flyers played in Czech Extraliga they would absolutely dominate BECAUSE the average guys on their 3rd and 4th lines would be 1st liners on any Czech Extraliga team. So who are the Czech Extraliga teams going to put out there to stop the NHL 1st and 2nd lines?
      Conner Bedard is a 1st overall draft pick in the NHL and will undoubtedly be a top NHL star one day. THAT's why he isn't wildly celebrating when he's playing outside the NHL. He recognizes that he's playing against lower tier talent, still good -- but not NHL-good, and he's not rubbing their faces in it (which I think is commendable).

    • @rosik3930
      @rosik3930 22 дні тому

      @@arkwill14 nobody sayed that Bedard has to do crazy cellies. But he could at least smile, rise hands to the air, be happy that he scored a goal. His expresion is worst than expresion of most of the players that are sent to the penalty box. I am Czech and you are Canadian so we different glance on the situation. All kudos to the Bedard what did he already achive in a such a young age, he is great player. But his behave after he scores a goal from my point of view looks pretty despicable, cocky, disrespectfully. It´s like. Yo I scored a goal against some lowkey donkies 🥱. Non celebrating it is much worse than celebrating it. I wouldn’t say anything if the score was 10-0 but it definitelly wasn’t. I play in the beer league and if there was a guy much better than all of us and he would score goals without celebrating it I would definitely go for a gloves drop for that because I would take it personally that he is laughting at me and despice me.

    Here's a fun fact that might explain things:
    Bedard scored goals in 18 different games.
    Chicago lost half of those games.
    How disrespectful is it when Canada outscores a team by 10+ goals and celebrates EVERY time?
    I'll also give another fun fact:
    In tournaments all-time, 8 of Canada's 10 most dominant wins came in tournaments they either didn't medal or didn't win gold.
    Bedard knows that he's playing world class players, hence the greater parity.
    He also knows that players celebrating goals excessively often leads to defensive breakdowns and teams answer quickly during that temporary lack of focus.
    If his subdued behavior later in the season is any indication, it's clear that Bedard's sole objective is winning hockey games and scoring goals is only half of the objective.
    Case in point: during the recent OHL final (Game 3), London trailed 6-2 heading into the 3rd period.
    From there, they scored 4 in the third and won the game in double OT.
    In Oshawa's case, celebrating a lead drove London and their top talent DEMOLISHED them.
    This loss was a difficult one, after losing 8-1 and 9-1 in the first two contests.
    London scored 12 of the last 13 goals, a feat that few should have doubted after the 17-2 drubbing to start the series.
    For Canada, and specifically Bedard, staying focused and vigilant to WIN not just perform, is a lesson few Canadian NHL teams don't need to learn.
    Toronto and Winnipeg amongst the ones who could take a few pointers.

    Give the kid a break. If he celebrates his goals people say he is cocky. If he doesn't celebrate he is being disrespectful. Did people say that about Brett Hull when he didn't celebrate?

    Looks like people are confused or did not uderstand intention. The problem some people had is that Bedard is playing and scoring with apathy not showing any excitement. People are delusional if they think showing excitement when scoring a goal is disrespectful. This is way more disrespectful and its literally saying "why would I celebrate something so easy to do...". It would be understandable if it was like goal in 8:0 game or something but it was not...

  • @rc7771
    @rc7771 25 днів тому

    No, he's not being disrespectful. He's trying not to embarrass the other team more than he already did when he scored on them. Why celebrate and just make the opponent angry after you torched them the way he does.

    I disagree with your parity comment. As always, there are clearly the top teams, clearly the bottom teams, and the one or two who surprise with performances that are unexpected, real pleasant surprises, lifting them to the 'middle tier,' at least for this year. This year, it's the Swiss. The tournament would be so much more exciting if the Swiss and Germans could stick there, and maybe another team - that would be closer to parity.

    Voracek I guess is welcome to share his opinions, but they're kind of a nothing statement. It's like, you're going to get criticized either way, and this is just how Bedard is. Every time the media tried to bring up his own personal accomplishments, he would always defer to being a team player, trying to help his team win, and also point out his shortcomings even if he had a multi point night. It's funnier than anything that he's getting criticized for his lack of emotion lol.

    • @8601r2
      @8601r2 27 днів тому

      I don't know if it's misunderstanding or just two cultures coming into contact with each other and staying true to their character. Bedard not over-selling his mid-game achievements and critics wanting a level of emotional response that suites their own emotional desires. The whole thing is blown out of proportion.
