You’ve entered another culture than what you’ve experienced previously. Be respectful. Appalachian folks will give you the shirts off their backs but don’t mistake their kindness or culture for ignorance or naivety. I grew up in Appalachia and I’m proud of it.
Eastern TN native here. Do not answer the door at night. Dont whistle after sunset. If you saw something.....no you didn't. These mountains are older than bones. Sometimes, you can feel it 'breathe' around you. Stay safe.
The mice are a constant challenge for cabins and vacation dwellings. They can squeeze through incredibly small openings. It's a good idea to keep rice, pasta, cereal and things like cookies or crackers stored in a cooler or sealed canister. Pre-wash any pots, pans, dishes silverware and countertop food preparation areas. Just part of living in a rustic, country place.
Prewash before EVERY use, not just the first time you cook. Mice will literally share the space with you, even if you're in the room with them. I recall sleeping in a carriage house bedroom just outside Baltimore, Maryland, a spot of rusticness close to very urban areas, and a mouse came up and began to lick the salty sweat off the top of my head, even though it got me giggling.
Go to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC. It is the largest privately owned home in the world with 250 bedrooms. It is a castle and a must see and right next to the one of the hardest Hurricane Helen damaged areas. Biltmore is back open for tours and a must see. You guys crack me up and thanks for sharing your lives.
Not all cabinets are dirty like that they just didn't have a good house cleaner to clean the cabin!! Also make sure you don't answer the door when somebody calls your name and don't whistle back either!! Don't go outside when it's dark in the Appalachian mountains!!!
My family has an off-grid hunting camp, and there's just nothing you can really do about stopping the mice from getting in, so I imagine it's similar in the cabin you stayed at. But we only use ours during the hunting season, you would think they'd clean up if they're gonna rent the damn place!
The Appalachians are, surprisingly, part of the Scottish Highlands, Ouachita Mountains, and the Atlas Mountains when this was still Pangea. (They were the Central Pangea Mtns) You’ll notice differences from state to state, but that’s because you’re going from subtropical zone to more Temperate deciduous. WV is gorgeous but can be scary lol good luck! You’ll be a state below me here in western Pennsylvania. Hope you brought layers 😂
Just temember this... If you heard something...no you didn't! If you think you saw something...no you didn't! Just enjoy your time and keep on moving 😅
The Appalachian Mountains are fascinating as they are one of, if not, the oldest mountain chain on the planet. It's beautiful everywhere you go, so enjoy! You'll get into snow near WV if not closer.
Snow forecast for Thursday night into Saturday for northern Georgia, east Tennessee, and North Carolins. Be careful. You guys may get stranded there if it snows like the forecasts are saying it will. Hope you get closer to a town so you don't have to drive in such deep woods during the snowstorm. Get to know some locals just in case you need them!
I live on a mountain along the Appalachian Mountain Trail. My backyard is up against a 70,000 acre national park. It’s quiet, beautiful, and relaxing. 😎
I'm From West Virginia! I haven't lived there in 5 years. While I do miss the mountains of home, it's not what it used to be and definitely not what it could be. There is a deep sadness embedded there.
Stop by Dollywood in Pigeon Forge near Knoxville, and Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mtns National Park. The next couple of weeks are supposed to be cold for us, so be safe.
If you are still in north Georgia please head to Helen! Visit the Chattahoochee river and enjoy the scenery, food and hospitality! They also have a sky coaster!! It's absolutely a beautiful place to visit
If you end up close to Walhalla, South Carolina, I recommend visiting Yellowbranch Falls and Stumphouse tunnel. A short detour into the mountains, an easy hike, but it's all worth it to see the waterfall. And then you can google the history behind Stumphouse. I'm glad I got to grow up in that town.
From Chattanooga here. Welcome, boys. There is a moonshine distillery in Blairesville you MUST check out. Free tastings!! A video with you guys tasting them all would be “bangin”. Lol
Just be glad you’re not in aren’t in the Kentucky portion of Appalachia yet…. We are currently buried under ice and snow right now. 💀 You should definitely go to Pigeon Forge/Gatlingburg and see the Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s one of Americas most popular parks! Asheville in North Carolina is gorgeous. In my home state of Kentucky y’all should check out the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge. I hope you have better luck with lodgings for the rest of your trip!
Yeah...don't worry about big-foot, skin walkers, werewolf, mimics, dogman, Aliens or any of that nonsense, like I said before...if you heard or saw something...no you didn't.
Anyone else freak out when they hear something LITERALLY IN THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO… and then see them look around for what they heard?!!?? All I could think of was “stop looking around!!! You didn’t hear anything!!! Go inside!!!” Haha. And then “lock that door and close the curtain in the restroom!!!!!” This gave me anxiety and the video was barely in the intro. Hahaha.
Exact same landforms as exist in the Scottish Highlands, predating the existence of the Atlantic Ocean. The Appalachians date from Pangea and were at one time taller than the Himalayas.
Headed north toward West Virginia, I recommend going to Pikeville Kentucky. It’s in the heart of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud and home to the Hillbilly Days festival and parade (200,000 descend on a small town to celebrate mountain culture) you are also sure to find local bourbon and moonshine. Beautiful little city!! Also visit the Breaks Interstate Park while there. Charming and gorgeous views. See 4 states at once from an overlook.
You’re starting out in Georgia all my family is from Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. Enjoy yourselves. Be friendly be kind and most people will treat you like 1 million bucks.
I love Blairsville!! My late husband and I spent a few anniversaries there. We loved "The Hole in the Wall." The grits and biscuits were wonderful. I love our Georgia mountains. I hope y'all do too.❤ hope you enjoy y'all's adventures.
7:10 come to Centralia pa. Used to be a big mining town. Then ground beneath their feet started to burn so everyone moved away. I am not joking it is predicted to continue to burn for the next 80 years.
I was just in Boone, North Carolina for 10 days. We have vacation there in the end of June beginning of July and also in December for the last 20 years. Boone, North Carolina is a very nice area. There’s the caverns in Linville. Grandfather Mountain has live animals trails up and down the mountain. They have bears, Deer, bald eagle golden eagle. They have a gorgeous view at the very top of grandfather Mountain and they have a swinging bridge to another peak of grandfather Mountain that you can cross too. Right outside of grandfather Mountain. There’s a place called Seven Devils and they have zip lining. They do teach you how to fly fishing , but it’s expensive. I believe the quarter is like $400. There’s also blowing rock North Carolina, which is a really quaint town, gorgeous views. Enjoy the Appalachian mountains. You should speak to the locals. See if they recommend anything to do or see in the area. Thank you for sharing.
I hope you can visit Fayetteville WV while you’re there! The New River Gorge Bridge offers spectacular views & used to break world records. Every Oct, it hosts a one day event for thousands that BASE jump. It’s wild!
Y'all should try to travel the whole Appalachian Trail, a national historic trail, from Georgia all the way up the east coast to Maine, following the Appalachian mountains from one end to the other. Thanks for the video, & hope you have a great time.
Georgia, and North Carolina, is the steepest and most intense part of the mountain range. then it smoothes out, and VA and WV have more rolling hills. it changes a lot. enjoy. and welcome. I'm jealous of this trip.
Yall come to Gadsden, Al and go to noccalula falls . Its beautiful you can walk the trails down to bottom of the waterfall , the indian villiage and theres a pettin zoo as well . We would love to have you in our city ❤️. Yall have a great trip and be safe .
Several years ago I went to a church retreat in the mountains in Pine Crest, California some cabins had mice & lots of 💩 while others had issues of the downstairs was absolutely freezing & the loft above was like a furnace ( I had the furnace...) IDK if it's just a mountain thing or what but everyone there hsd something funky going on 🤷
When we lived in North Carolina, we had a creek at the bottom of our yard too. Damn, I really miss that place. Anyway, remember your "Yes, Ma'am" manners!! You are in the South.
If you want to find a town with a population of one Jase you need to go to Monowi, Nebraska. There is a woman who is quite literally the only resident of the town. She has been the mayor, clerk, treasurer, librarian and bartender since her husband died in 2004. At one point they had a second resident but they have since left leaving her to be the only person again.
I live about 40 minutes from Blairsville..it’s a beautiful town! Come back in the Spring and go rafting down the Ocoee River in Polk County Tennessee (about 40 minutes from Blairsville) The river is beautiful, has class 5 rapids and was the location of the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition. Rafting the Ocoee starts in late February/early March and runs through October…it’s so much fun! Hope you enjoy the mountains!
Super cool you all are visiting the App Mtns. I would suggest visiting Tellico Plains TN while you are close, they have a beautiful River drive you can take as well as some amazing Local food. Tellico Grains Bakery as well as the Tellico Beach Drive in, both have amazing food. So much to see while you are there, perhaps you can visit Cades Cove in Townsend (likely no bears out but other wildlife may be stirring depending on weather), you can drive on the Dragon (318 curves in 11 miles, just look up Dragon, Deals Gap). Perhaps even a drop in at DollyWood in Pigeon Forge and a day exploring Gatlinburg. Maggie Valley NC is also a beautiful place, Biltmore in Asheville is also close to that. In Cherokee NC at the old mill on hwy 441 you can see Elk. Many beautiful Waterfalls all thru the Great Smoky Mtns which is part of the App mtns. A drive up to the top of Hwy 441 will get you to Clingmans Dome which is a wonderful view of the mountains. So much more there for you to see, cannot wait to see what you find and explore. The Mtn people are an amazing people, very proud of their heritage but are also very humble people. I lived there the first 40 years of my life before moving out but man I miss those mountains. They will be very unique and I suspect you will find kindness. Many are deeply rooted in their Christian faith and that is a core part of many of their lives.
If your making your way through Georgia, I really hope you hit Clayton Georgia, my mother is from there and I have some extended family still living there, its a absolutely beautiful place! We usually rent a house in Sky valley resort it overlooks a golf course in the valley, there's also a popular 85 ft waterfall there called Mud Creek Falls no hiking required you can literally drive your car right at the base of it, they also have horseback riding if you're feeling adventurous in that area lol, there's Farmers markets, flea markets, antique shops and plenty of hole in the Wall restaurant to try! You should also try visiting the Cherokee Indian reservation in the Western part of North Carolina, it's right on the border of Georgia, there are a lot of handmade products made by many of the Cherokee, there is a strip of shops that run up and down the main road there! There's also grandfather mountain located in the western part of North Carolina, it's one of the highest points of the Blue ridge mountains! Besides North Carolina and Clayton Georgia there's other areas such as Raburn county, Franklin Georgia maybe within 10 to 20 minutes of each other give or take! I enjoy your video as always! 😊👍
🌄Glad you're visiting the Appalachians, they're absolutely stunning in the summer and fall. Winter, is a bit spooky and dreary, but at least the bears are sleeping! 🐻Not sure where you plan to visit in West Virginia, but Harper's Ferry is a great little historic town nestled between the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers.
Definitely go to some small towns in the North Carolina mountains. Get on the Blue Ridge Parkway, it's beautiful. Stop at places like Linville Caverns. Stop in at Black Mountain, Biltmore Estates, Boone and from there go to a little town just across the Tennessee state line called Mountain City. Oh yeah, don't forget to visit Cherokee (not necessarily the casino). By the way, it's pronounced with "chun" on the end, not "shun". At least around these parts.😁
The mountains are always beautiful but I would never stay there honestly because I get spooked/creeped out easily when I would go on walks and I hear strange noises or it’s too quiet. I prefer being somewhere near a lot of people lol. I’m glad yall are experiencing the American fun! Yall should come to my state which is Virginia and yall can go to Monticello and Carter’s mountain for apple picking in the fall apple cider donuts and ofc Virginia hard cider!! and so much more fun things!
I wouldn't whistle at night... and if you think you heard or seen something well the main rule is no you didn't... just keep it moving lol don't pay attention to it... other than that enjoy it. It's a beautiful place.
You should check for bed bugs when you're in the south. No mouse droppings in your bed aren't normal unless they don't take care of the place. I would have left the minute I saw that. Have fun
Appa-Latcha, close your curtains at night so whats outside cant see in. Never look at a tree line at dusk, you dont want to know what could be staring back at you. Hear voices out in the darkness? ignore them and stay inside, you dont want to meet whats out there.
I would be interested to know how the majority of Appalachians say it because I know around here it’s apple-at-cha. Visit Southwest Va. There are so many beautiful places to see. Weather is absolutely miserable right now. 8inches of snow here and now freezing rain but it should pass soon. Winter here is nice but please come back in the Spring/Summer too. We have some great places to see and experience!
I am off for 4 days, need a guide? I am from Blairsville, have lived there and I am an avid hiker and local to the area! Great spots, like Helen- the little German town, Brasstown Bald-the highest mountain peak in Georgia. There are Native American mounds and all sorts of fun history!
Lol Why do I just imagine one of the guys being like, hey let’s go to the Appalachian Mountains😆, and the other one just being like what?😐 Would love to see a video of y’all round a campfire reading haunting Appalachian stories.😆 that would be interesting.
You should come back to Helen in the summer and go tubbing down the Chattahoochee. Also, that first cabin is a dump. There are Sssooooo many better places for the price.
❤❤❤❤if y'all go into Virginia....go visit Monticello, the home of President Thomas Jefferson....its gorgeous and fascinating!! Also Biltmore House in Ashville North Carolina is AWESOME..btw...Texas BBQ and North Carolina are very different....but both delicious...Texas BBQ is more beef 🐂 based with the brisket, etc....North Carolina BBQ is all about the pig 🐷..Hugs! Jenni from Houston
Check out the Appalachian Trail. While it is not doable for your type of travel, you could certainly pick a piece of it and walk a few miles one day. “The Appalachian Trail, also called the A.T., is a hiking trail in the Eastern United States, extending almost 2,200 miles (3,540 km) between Springer Mountain in Georgia and Mount Katahdin in Maine, and passing through 14 states. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy claims the Appalachian Trail to be the world's longest hiking-only trail. More than three million people hike segments of it each year.”
You’ve entered another culture than what you’ve experienced previously. Be respectful. Appalachian folks will give you the shirts off their backs but don’t mistake their kindness or culture for ignorance or naivety. I grew up in Appalachia and I’m proud of it.
100 truth!! WV here and very defensive of my home state!!
They are kind of you look a certain way... They aren't kind to everyone.
I moved here, and I'm moving back to the Midwest. Most do not like outsiders. Reason for moving back
Eastern TN native here. Do not answer the door at night. Dont whistle after sunset. If you saw something.....no you didn't.
These mountains are older than bones. Sometimes, you can feel it 'breathe' around you. Stay safe.
As a non-TN usa citizen, may I ask why? Bears?
They should definitely lock their car doors to prevent bears getting in though.
@Alescia0115 not bears! There are things & spirits in those trees that follow you if you acknowledge them

They have seen castles before. And a big palace for the King. I agree about the Biltmore even though I have not been inside.
Its a big house built by and for rich people, not for you.
It’s probably nothing compared to much older castles they’ve seen in the UK but it is worth a good visit.
My great grandfather sold Mr.Biltmore 300 acres back in the day
Biltmore is wonderful. I hope they've been able to rebuild the cute village/stores just outside of the gates.
"dressed for a late night Walmart trip"
Is an extremely specific and very American insult, good job.
Not all cabinets are dirty like that they just didn't have a good house cleaner to clean the cabin!! Also make sure you don't answer the door when somebody calls your name and don't whistle back either!! Don't go outside when it's dark in the Appalachian mountains!!!
Yep! The haints will take you with them.

Go to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. There are beautiful cabins there. Y’all always make me laugh.
It's nice but it's touristy especially on the strips. They are experiencing real Appalachia
Umm also, if you hear what sounds like a woman screaming, do not go outside. It’s a mountain lion. I hope your trip is amazing!!
Its a rental in the middle of the woods. Nothing out of the ordinary
Go to Helen I promise it’s worth it. Little slice of Germany in the Georgia mountains. Grew up going there.
Yes, I came here to say this!!! (Especially at night, this time of year) 😊
Thirding Helen recommendation! I live down in Atlanta, but was up there for a visit about a year ago. I loved it!
these guys live a short train ride from the real Germany. I am curious to see their reaction. haha. make a comparison video for us please. yes
App-uh-latch-uh below the Mason Dixon. Usually. They say it like you did above the line a lot. Just different regional vernacular.

You guys will love it I am sure, such a beautiful part of this great country. Have fun and be careful.
Picked a bad time to come as it’s about to snow like crazy
Yes the mountains and people get different the further you go. Usually the nicest people you'd meet though is on the trails.
Just be glad you’re not in aren’t in the Kentucky portion of Appalachia yet…. We are currently buried under ice and snow right now. 💀

So cozy. Be safe and watch for bears and wild large cats.
Yeah...don't worry about big-foot, skin walkers, werewolf, mimics, dogman, Aliens or any of that nonsense, like I said before...if you heard or saw something...no you didn't.
@@Kaysue41 yes. Be very careful of the murder kittens. “If not friend, why friend shaped?” 😹😹😹

Much love from the only state completely inside the Appalachian mountains… (also its pronounced- App-uh-latch-in)
Exact same landforms as exist in the Scottish Highlands, predating the existence of the Atlantic Ocean. The Appalachians date from Pangea and were at one time taller than the Himalayas.

Do they not know about the Appalachians. They need to take a nap and g o.
This is always funny to me. I guess it all comes down to what you're used to. I'm more creeped out by cities and find peace in the woods
Have fun
Hoping your coming to the white mountains in NH. It’s beautiful around this time
The coughing from the droppings 😂😂
This is my hometown!! So glad you guys are here! Maybe we will run into each other!
Appa-Latcha, close your curtains at night so whats outside cant see in. Never look at a tree line at dusk, you dont want to know what could be staring back at you. Hear voices out in the darkness? ignore them and stay inside, you dont want to meet whats out there.
Good advice 👍
Gotta go to the Sierra Nevada brewery and the Biltmore house!
My fiancé and I go on motorcycle rides to blood mountain! I hope your enjoying the views😊
Please visit Helen and get some fudge at Hantzel and Gretel.. It is a fun town and you walk to most everywhere.
Used to hike Blood mountain every New Years with my scout troop!
Also…to clarify it is the Southwest part of the state of Virginia that I’m recommending.
Tennessee welcomes yall! If you hear banjos....don't run could be a get together. ❤❤
you going to WV appalachian mountains? look for the hollers...lol
I am off for 4 days, need a guide? I am from Blairsville, have lived there and I am an avid hiker and local to the area! Great spots, like Helen- the little German town, Brasstown Bald-the highest mountain peak in Georgia. There are Native American mounds and all sorts of fun history!
You should check out Pine Mountain in GA! I love about 30mins from it & they have cabins that look awesome & lots of hiking & driving along mountains.
Lol Why do I just imagine one of the guys being like, hey let’s go to the Appalachian Mountains😆, and the other one just being like what?😐
Would love to see a video of y’all round a campfire reading haunting Appalachian stories.😆 that would be interesting.
If you ever stay in a cabin in the wood you’ll find mouse poo.. love the south.. (“south”… because I’m in Michigan)
Watch out for Bigfoot. Listen for weird noises at night. Howling, slapping on the cabin. Many sightings in the Appalachian Mountain.
Beautiful
You should come back to Helen in the summer and go tubbing down the Chattahoochee. Also, that first cabin is a dump. There are Sssooooo many better places for the price.
It looks very beautiful 😍! I would have a hard time sleeping with mice droppings though. Good luck! I'm glad to see this video from you guys 😁
Bears are there. Dont run. Make lots of noise standing close to each other. Always have bear spray. Just give them lots of space
You want him to get got? Read the folklore of the place.
Be careful. Really bad weather coming there
They are the nicest people
Pay attention to the weather we are expecting a winter storm. You may want to rent a 4x4
Vehicle to travel in
I don't think you're too far from Ruby Falls. Indoor water fall :) yall should go
Check out the Appalachian Trail.
You need to go visit eastern OK and see the BigFoot museum in Talahina
Them mountains are said with a latch.
