Oktoberfest and Christmas in Helen is just awesome. The week you're there is the time that many local shop owners take their vacations after the season.
I live in Helen! Wish I could have seen you guys, I showed my mom some of this video and she said "they should have met me, I could have told them the real history of this place!" LOL she's lived here her whole life and her family has been here for many generations. Come to think of it, maybe it's good you didn't run into us, my mom would have had so many stories to tell you the moment she heard that you were interested in the history of it. LOL 🤣
There is another German town in Washington state that is a big destination for tourists around the holidays it always snows and they have horse drawn Sleigh rides. It’s a beautiful place. It’s called Leavenworth Washington.
There's nowhere more wonderful than Leavenworth Washington lit up for Christmas in the snow. it's magical, but can be a bit crowded on weekends. It's a great walking town with sledding in the middle of town and sleigh rides, oh and good food too plus a year-round Christmas store and a nutcracker shop and museum with nutcrackers that go back hundreds of years, some are very expensive.
Just some more information about German towns in America. There's a lot of them in most of the states. Boerne, Texas, New Braunfels, Texas, Leavenworth, Washington. They are ALL over America.
As far as my opinion of a Christmas tree still being up mine NEVER comes down before January 5th and rarely after January 6th. I'm glad to see someone in this world still keeps their tree up until around then just as it should be.
It's packed from March till Christmas. The area has beautiful cabins to rent, so it's a hotspot. They went after Christmas and that is the start of the 2-3 month offseason.
my cousin was married there, it was SO FUN!! As you progress, you will be getting more into the areas that were hit by a hurricane , plus it's getting cold. Stay warm, and be aware that you may start meeting people in the midst of rebuilding. you guys rock!!
Thanks for the tour. There is a town in Michigan called Frankemuth. It is exactly like that town., They call it Little Bavaria. It has the largest Christmas store. Also it has the best restaurants with the greatest food. If you are ever in Michigan, it will remind you of that town.😅❤
Just a heads up you still have people pretending to be you. I know you can’t stop it but if you can make a video to warn your fans. It would nice to stop them as much as possible. Thanks in advance. Love your videos enjoy America while you visit!
If u haven’t left the area, the Ty place in Helen is absolutely the best I’ve ever had! We were just there three weeks ago and it was so busy! So many people you couldn’t move! Now I know when to come!
Welcome to the North Georgia Mountains guys. My cabin is nearby - 7 miles from the town square of Dahlonega. I hope you come to Dahlonega for a look about on your travels through the region. Safe travels, mates!
I rode from Chattanooga to Helen on late spring and went to the Two Tire Tavern. Sat down at a picnic table by the road and got up, hit my head, and sliced it open. Bled everywhere, had to get 8 stitches. I bent the "motorcycle only" parking sign so no one would do it again. I *think* the sign is still partially bent.
Tallulah Gorge, Tocca Falls, Amicolola Falls, Vogel State Park, Preacher’s Rock, Bell Mountain, Brasstown Bald…. I would start with the Gorge it will be worth it. ❤Your Tour Guide!
4:00 Here in Germany Christmas time officially ends on January 6 with three kings day. So having the tree up in January is the norm here. Traditionally the tree is set up the day before Christmas eve or even on that day. Real trees are also still more common than fake trees so you're kinda forced to set them up later otherwise it will have dried out by the time Christmas comes around. A lot of people leave their tree up even through January to enjoy the smell till it starts withering.
Seeing Helen so empty is weird, In non winter months it is packed with tourists and folks inner tubing down the Chattanooga river that runs through town.
Helen is so much fun! I go between Oktoberfest and Christmas but I have heard that tubing in the summer is a blast. The food and the best selection of German beer in the US will always keep me coming back.
You should check out the little town of Oldenburg, Indiana. It too is a Bavarian inspired village that was settled by German immigrants. The streets have German names as do some of the businesses. If you come, check out the cathedral and the graveyard. There are a couple of restaurants that combine a bit of German and American cuisine. In summer there is the Freudenfest that draws many tourists. Winter is Holidays Under the Spires.
Up here in Minnesota, We have a bunch of cities that have sister cities in Sweden. Sister cities are two communities in different countries that form a long-term partnership.
It's so crazy how Helen is a top destination now. I have lived in the area most of my life, and I'll be honest, Im not super excited about a place right next to me becoming big😅 Mostly because I'm seeing a lot of the people visiting don't respect and value of keeping the trails and rivers clean... the beauty of Appalachia is something that should be protected, and I've really fallen in love with this area, so I pray people will remember to "leave only footprints"❤
Welcome to Georgia! 😉 Are yall planning on going anywhere else in the state? Y’all should come to Savannah. River street is pretty cool. Get you a Wet Willie’s and go on a ghost tour!
@@cynh9541 In 1996 I was a student at Georgia Southern University. On a whim, one of the guys in the dorm said, "want to go to Savannah". I said sure. He sped down I-16, windows open on a cold January night and made it to Savannah in only like thirty minutes, it seemed. "Hero of the Day" by Metallica he had cranked up in his car. When we got to Savannah we ate at Spanky's. I rarely go onto River Street when I am in Savannah these days. Usually travel through elsewhere. Have eaten at the Crystal Beer Parlor a few times. My wife wants us to move there after retirement. Don't know if I'd be up for that, as everyone I know is up here in the Atlanta area. I really need to see a Savannah Bananas bananaball game.
You should revisit during Oktoberfest. It is packed with people, live bands, great food and beer. A friend of mine owns an ice cream shop there on Narr Weg. It's named Eisberg Ice Cream.
Here in Ohio, we have a Swiss village similar to Helen Georgia, called Sugarcreek. It too was based on the Swiss/German architecture. Also, here we have Amish country, which is Dutch/German heritage. If you find it there or anywhere there is an Amish/Swiss/German culture, you have to try the dessert called Date Nut Pudding. It is similar to your English pudding, sort of like a cake texture. It is usually served with Carmel Sauce drizzled on top and a dollop of Whipped Cream. Oh, So, Good!!! Good Luck you guys and stay Safe!!
My grandfather built a lot of the buildings in Helen. My dad lived in the house with the heart shaped cut outs in the shutters for a few years. Y’all should have came in the summer and went tubing! It’s fun but you have to watch out for the snakes.
You should definitely check out the Tallulah Gorge in Tallulah Falls. Its in a small town but is such a neat place. Fun fact is that my grandpa was the mayor at ine time and was super involved in the town. Id love to see yall stop by here.
A sister city is one city is linked to another for culture and or exchange purposes Josh. Just like the city I live in our sister city is Borgholm, Sweden.
There are many different immigrants towns in the US. People immigrated and formed towns filled with people from the same countries and made them look like the places they came from. There are many German towns all over. Also China towns etc. Its pretty cool, after all this country is filled with immigrants. They used to move to the same towns. Many still keep with the traditions of their home countries.
Being a sister city is not reason enough to design and erect Germanic buildings; that's all post-founding affectation of the town. It's more likely that a great many Germans relocated to Helen and the 'Germanification' took place later. Maybe it was an influx of Hessians after the Revolutionary War. The sister city concept happened maybe the last quarter of the 20th century. The literature says Helen was a failing mining town, destined to become a ghost town until a local artist in 1968 reimagined the town as an ersatz alpine village on the basis of its vague similarity to Bavarian mountain villages. That artist helped the local government to rebuild as a tourist destination for Americans to visit, revitalizing Helen and saving the town.
in america our philosophy is when it comes to a drink... it's 5 o'clock somewhere. having a beer at 1 in the afternoon so what. if i had my way i would have a beer or whiskey, or vodka at 7 in the morning.
Love watching the small videos y'all do, but just a tip for the king running videos like this one. Please get some Bluetooth microphones. Will make the videos easier to watch with better audio.
I hope you are out of the North Georgia Mtns by now or prepared to get trapped for a few days. Bad winter storm rolling through most of Southern Appalachia this Friday.
I think there are a few “German towns” in the US. There is one outside DC. Look up US decedents for each Euro country and you can see there is a larger German descendent population compared to British.
Oktoberfest and Christmas in Helen is just awesome. The week you're there is the time that many local shop owners take their vacations after the season.

That would’ve been so nice❤ Wish I’d known about Helen when I was on my road trip to GA in summer 2023. I’d definitely have visited!
There is another German town in Washington state that is a big destination for tourists around the holidays it always snows and they have horse drawn Sleigh rides. It’s a beautiful place. It’s called Leavenworth Washington.
I don’t like Leavenworth there’s too many people
Leavenworth is magical!!!!
I came to the comments to say this! We love Leavenworth!
There's nowhere more wonderful than Leavenworth Washington lit up for Christmas in the snow. it's magical, but can be a bit crowded on weekends. Thanks for being respectful to this small town just trying to stay alive. Peace be with you mates😊
Just trying to stay alive? Helen is overwhelmingly a popular tourist location with loads of people most of the time.
It's packed from March till Christmas. The area has beautiful cabins to rent, so it's a hotspot. They went after Christmas and that is the start of the 2-3 month offseason.

I second this!
I third this. Gotta have some chicken and go to Bronners.
Yesssss! Love Frankenmuth
Helen is one of my favorite places on earth! During the summer riding a tube down the Chattahoochee is the best
Is that the same Chattahoochie river and song by Alan Jackson 😮??? Love it❤❤🇺🇲🇺🇲🍺🍺🎶🎸
@renemulvaney8717 why yes, yes it is
@@hannahsanfilippo2068 niiiiiice!!! Thanks 😊

They've made several. If people are dumb enough to fall for it STILL, it's on them, not Josh and Jason
You guys should check out Frankenmuth, MI if you want German, plus great chicken dinners!
If u haven’t left the area, the Ty place in Helen is absolutely the best I’ve ever had! We were just there three weeks ago and it was so busy! So many people you couldn’t move! Now I know when to come!

Chattahoochee River runs through Helen.
You guys need to go to Frankenmuth, MI! But in the summer, not winter. 😬🥶
Have to go to the Biltmore house and Sierra Nevada brewery!
Helen is so much fun! I go between Oktoberfest and Christmas but I have heard that tubing in the summer is a blast. The food and the best selection of German beer in the US will always keep me coming back.
Dahlonga is not far, and that's a cool mining town
Should head up towards Gatlinburg, TN! Take a snowboard down Öber!
You guys have gotta go to Asheville NC while you're in Appalachia! There's a lot to do there.
A lot of volunteer work.
Awe 😊 welcome to North Georgia!!
We had our honeymoon in Helen in 2021. Been there many times. Just love it.
I was there on New Years Day passing through and, yes, you’d rather go for Oktoberfest. The town center is much more lively then.
I love your videos. Please keep up the great work!

I love Helen..I spent 6 years as a child in Germany and I miss the food, especially the chocolate!
There are German towns all over the US, try Leavenworth WA at Christmas or a little less German looking-Mt Angel Oregon during Oktoberfest
Here in WV we have two towns, Helvetia and Swiss.
Both settled by German and Swiss immigrants. 😊
Love seeing the one in Georgia ❤
Bigg Daddy's, Paul's, The Troll Tavern and The Hofbrau Haus are my favorite restaurants. Most people dress in German costume during Oktoberfest.
You should definitely check out the Tallulah Gorge in Tallulah Falls. Its in a small town but is such a neat place. Fun fact is that my grandpa was the mayor at ine time and was super involved in the town. Id love to see yall stop by here.
Eat at The Troll restaurant on the river. In the summer, you can watch the tubers go by. Two years ago a black bear crossed the river among them.
Come up to Asheville North Carolina and we can give you a proper Appalachian experience. Love the content!
Also the best times to go is summer time and October for October fest
Are you kidding me....yall were less than an hour from me!?!?!?!?!? You have to go back there in the summer and go Tubbing down the river lol
What a cool town
That's close to me!! Helen is a wonderful little town!! Wish I could come meet yall and show you around!!❤❤❤
It's off season there right now. Summer thru October fest is the busiest
Hope you fellas plan on hitting up Rock City Gardens and Ruby Falls while in Georgia.
Frankemuth, Michigan, Pella, Iowa and Leavenworth, Washington have similar vibes.
A sister city is one city is linked to another for culture and or exchange purposes Josh. Just like the city I live in our sister city is Borgholm, Sweden.
Hey Josh and Jase fun fact a lot of the Midwest has German immigrant families, including myself! Indiana has a beautiful German town in Jasper IN
Such a fascinating little town.
Loved your tour guys, ❤ thanks. But, I think Josh got the bigger beer.🍺🍺😊
You should go to Cherokee North Carolina if you want to see a little tourist town
18:57 you know Josh was dreading that answer lol

New Braunfels in TX is our German Haus.
During the summer, you tube that little river.
You tube 😂

Alpine VAG fair is there every year. Huge Volkswagen car show. That’s pretty German lol
If you come back in the summer, you can tube down the river
There should have been German restaurants open. Stone Mountain has a great one!

You like roller coasters come to Ohio and Kings Island .
Love watching the small videos y'all do, but just a tip for the king running videos like this one. Please get some Bluetooth microphones. Will make the videos easier to watch with better audio.
You need to go in October for October Fest
Tyler Childers playong in the back! 20:07❤
One more person stopping in to say Leavenworth in Washington State, it’s beautiful.
In Texas specifically in the hill country there are small German towns actually founded by Germans.
I know you guys are looking to get your hands on some German Venner Shitzal . Keep looking. ❤
You cant move in Helen in the summer due to the tourists. It's a sort-of mountain version of German "Disneyland"
Go to dahlonega and Blue ridge next.
Did you go see the Cabbage Patch Hospital?
Go wine guzzling at a nearby winery!! 😂👍🏻
I hope you are out of the North Georgia Mtns by now or prepared to get trapped for a few days. Bad winter storm rolling through most of Southern Appalachia this Friday.
These used to be on the bridge 😢 13:17
There is Frankenmuth, MI
Great to float down 23:28

You need yo visit Fredricksburg TX
There are several other German towns in other states
Very cute and sweet
If you guys find yourselves in Illinois you should check out Galena ☺️👍
New Braunfels is German, Solvang is Danish. And there are towns all over America just like them.
Never seen it that empty.
Oh, honey, you're so misled. You need to go to Leavenworth, Washington.
That’s nothing! Come check out frankenmuth in Michigan!
Y’all need to go back for their Ocktoberfest❤
Omg! Jase telling that shop woman that Josh stinks! 😮😂
Jases videos are making me nauseous 😅. But i did love the crystal shop he visited
Y’all NEED to go to Busch Gardens Williamsburg, VA! It’s like a theme park of European countries. SO fun!!
It’s not season yet
Go to the Cabbage Baby’s Hospital lol you’ll love it
