I more likely agree with the third theory. The Archon War was a form to get rid of weaker gods and to choose which god could represent the main element, for each nation. But this war was also used to eleminate anyone that knows too much about their secret or to eliminate screw loses.
Even if Ghuizhong, Osial or Havria managed to survive the war, they would be "punished" by Celestia either way, similar how Orobashi avoided fighting until he was forced with an ultimatum by the heavens. And perhaps their deaths or being sealed away is a better fate than fighting fellow gods or forced to fight friends alike.
Orobashi was able to subordinate himself to the electro archon (makoto) but his nation would doubt that he would do the same even though he knew that if he fought he would lose.
he could be like Dvalin or Andrius, even like the adepts.
the problem comes from his own people who claimed and these would not be subordinated to another god if it were not him, there is also the fact that he swore something to celestia (this is the greatest unknown of his lore) and the fact that he was called blasphemous in his homeland.
basically his death made his nation survive even without the need to worship the electro archon and apparently makoto knew about this since he did not force him to gild more than to put his statue as a sign of his domain to the present.
What's weird is that Venti definitely knows too much and probably knows almost everything, being related to Istaroth and all, but Celestia just lets him be
This is most obvious in Inazuma. Neither Watatsumi, Seirai or Tsurumi share culture with Narukami or worship Electro Archon in their culture. But there are divine statues on their lands nonetheless and shogun tried to conquer them. I theorise the same will be in the Sumerus desert.

Having a Gnosis means you get a free powerup no one else can get, so conflict is expected. What the Archons didn't know is that the Gnosis is some kind of contract, basically giving Celestia full control over you. So Celestia got to 1. eliminate possible threats and 2. control those who were left. The only individuals capable of doing anything against Celestia were shackled and anyone else strong enough to ascend to Celestia are imprisoned (Vanessa). Celestia clearly isn't invincible since they wouldn't be doing these things if they were.
The Gnosi allow contact with Celestia. If it truly gave power, then why was Raiden Ei so fast to discard hers? Raiden had no use for a Gnosis, as she had no reason to ever make contact with Celestia, that is, if she was pursuing Eternity.

@@Frostborne2778 It seems that a Gnosis is a big deal to a tiny wind spirit like Barbatos, who seemed to be hardly more than an Anemograna when he became an archon. But for gods who were already strong, like Raiden Ei and Morax, it was not a big deal.
One of my speculation is that the gnosis may actual be the dragons old power. Since, not only it supercharges a god, but also drain them of their original power. Almost like the dragons are still somewhat alive and trying to regain their old power.
@Harry Shade but they came after the world had humans, not before. Because just like the archon and the elements, their were seven of them and we only saw 2 confirmed dragon.

I wonder about that too, a question I always wanted answers to was what if a god of fire receives the hydro gnosis, will they lose their ability to control fire or can they use both?
I don't think it is that complicated? Master of one thing is generally better than being average at many things. The archons now just excel at their particular element. And manipulating elements doesn't seem too hard when we know fatui can do that.

@@ca.m3923 probably that was the plan of the sustainer of heavenly principles, but either it was a more "pasive" way by taking their powers or they just failed at that.
Celestia is the Higher Ups, Archons are Middle Management, and Vision holders are unsalaried workers!
On a more serious note, I do think the Archon/Demon God War was indeed some kind of intentional downsizing held by Celestia.
My intuition is saying it might have something to do with managing all that “data” from the different Domains of the gods. And I’m using the term Domain on purpose here. By consolidating those down into seven more “streamlined” ideals, it becomes easier to process. (EDIT) And/or Elemental energy as brought up in the video. Especially if the world of Teyvat is becoming less stable over time as some theories propose.
So, if I undestand it correctly, gods are just born naturally. Like, Venti was a bunch of wind that got a soul, and Kusanali poped up at some field as it is. Would it be so streange to think that this "downsizing" was population control of onmipotent beings?

regarding the 7 elements and the archon war, there is one thing i never really understood: which came first for the nations?
we know decarabian god of storms, andrius god of blizzards and barbatos god of freedom all relate to anemo.
guizhong god of dust, havria god of salt morax god of contracts all relate to geo
i can see in orobashis design that it can relate to electro, thunderbird is also obvious electro
but WHY was Osial, Lord of the Vortex even in Liyue?
Osial clearly relates to hydro, i cant see any relation to geo, so why would osial fight in liyue during the archon war, if the nations were already established for a certain element. and if the nations were not, what wouldve happened if two gods of the same element emerged victorious for different regions...
Osial just seems so off compared to the other divines enteties we know of that fought in the archon war
i'm not sure about all the questions you asked, and trying to answer them just leads to a LOT of theories, so here's what i know.
about which gods were first:
decarabian was god over mondstadt, but he was never the anemo archon - venti is the first and current one. andrius was never the god of mondstadt, just a considered candidate for the position but he refused and it was given to barbatos/venti instead. decarabian was god of mondstadt first, then venti, but venti is still the first/original anemo archon.
guizhong and havria each were gods of their own group of people, who died either in or before the archon war, which led to morax being the first geo archon.
orobashi also had its own group of followers and was slain in the archon war, i don't know anything about thunderbird.
thats not the only strange thing in liyue. xiaos former master seems to have had some kind of connection to dreams like Rukhadevata and Nahida do/did, making her a possible contendant for dendro. (before Morax fucking killed her)
and osial wasn't the only sea god that attacked liyue: Orobashi was in liyue once too (according to watatsumi people he was a sea god. he once even had corals all over his body which were his powersource), Baqiu who is said to have been the most powerful deity that ever lived in the seas, The Chi who is said to be a "Mountain dragon", the god from shenhes story and a sea god made of rainbows. yes, rainbows. Zhongli made vortex vanquisher that day, because that thing is for some reason capable of destroying rainbows. HOW
There are also Theories that there are/were more than 7 elements. Maybe each demon god had it's own element and even if sand and geo seem similar they actually aren't just es there are different sheds of blue. That way it would be impossible to get more than one archon of a specific element. I think there are mentions that Cryo also is just another version of hydro. That would support this theory.
Another idea would be, that Osial got defeated by the hydro archon already and fled to Liyue in hopes of winning the war there.
What I think is that not all of the contenders of the archon war were related to an element or not just to one, for example andrius uses anemo and cryo, we do not know if Makoto and ei had electro powers during the archon war, maybe they were just very powerful and after becoming archon they were given control over electro.
Also de God of time can be related to mondstat which is not related to anemo.
In sumeru the crimson king is more related to geo.
Maybe the relationships between osial and geo is that he had control over the bottom of the sea, tectonic plates or something like that.
I just threw a lot of random ideas sorry.
I have a theory for that.
the primordial dragons or were more than beings that were driven by pure instinct and power when defeated these powers did not disappear and were taken by the ancient celestials, but after the second to come obtained the throne he released these powers and from these the gods were born and elemental creatures creating a kind of "reincarnation" or descendants of these dragons, of course this caused war between them and to prevent this from continuing, the war happened in order to have the 7 regents over these elements, these being reincarnation or descendants of the 7 gods originals (the original name of genshin impact in Chinese, Japanese and Korean).

Perhaps this means that those 'seven seats' in Celestia were not just made to find rulers from the Archon War, but they were around before that, and there were already 7 Celestial gods/angels in those positions of power
Now that's interesting, what could've happened to them for the seats to open up? maybe they were part of the Primordial One's gang but fell from power when the Second who Came arrived
I think this is a mistake in translation, or maybe bad wording. Rite of Parting is generally for Liyue's Adepti. Morax had a rite of parting because he was an Adeptus, not an Archon.
I know its not confirmed but I always had the idea that it was just "winner of the war gets the throne" i always thought it was always like a king of the hill kinda thing. A god takes the throne, another god challenges him and kills him(or something else idk) then the new god takes his place and the cycle continues either after celestia felt that the number of gods remaining was fine, or the seven we currently have were able to uphold their seat for a few hundred or thousand years and that was what was able to finally say that the war was over, no one could contest these 7 gods
Imagine we get to celestia at the end of the game and they just say "Haha archon war funny, we just wanted kill oops"
I think it's a divide and conquer situation. If the current celestia is the second throne and all the archons are related and loyal to the first throne (maybe citizens of celestia?), then of course the second throne would want to limit the number of them and only pick the ones who obey her (ie. actively participate the archons' war) as Archons. Basically like winners of the Hunger Games.
If I remember this correctly, The Lord of Flowers and Greater Lord Rukkhadevata praised The Winged One AKA Phanes when they first met. This happened before Ay Khanoum, and before Archon War.
The Lord of Flowers is part of the Seelie race, which the god claimed to be directly created by Phanes. So she is most likely to be loyal to Phanes, not the Second Who Came.
Ay Khanoum AKA The worriless paradise was the product of collaboration between The 3 God Kings + some other gods in Sumeru. This city is one of many proofs that the gods can come together and guide humanity.
After that, the Lord of Flowers got the divine judgement and died. The paradise fell with her.
Maybe the Second Who Came after defeated Phanes forced the other gods to be loyal to them and tried to erase the traces of the first heavenly order. Advocates of Phanes must be killed, knowledge about Phanes was suppressed via Archon War (because every demon god may know Phanes in some degree, so it is better if the new Celestia only keep a handful of gods to rule the humans and bind all of the chosen gods to them via the Gnosis and contracts regarding confidential information.
@@shrimpkanchou1276 Thx for the info! I also remember that the books kind of mentioned that Scarlett King and Zhongli are descended from celestia/above, although the timeline isn't very clear. And there's that unified ancient civilization which got distoryed during the conflict of the primordial one and the second throne. I would theorize that whoever wins the throne is probably trying to limit the power of humanity and the Archons, so they either send their own people down to rule, or get the defying ones killed during the Archons' war.
First of all, I prefer the second theory, I feel that it is the one that is closest to the lore and a certain revelation about the celestial principles that appear to be norms and laws, it is a plan for teyvat in the future.
according to the lore of mondstatd the gods were not exactly peaceful, it is said that they already killed each other and wars for territory were common to the point that in mondstatd before decarabia there were already several nations that became extinct in these wars, also in liyue before the war of the archons he was not exactly peaceful to begin with zhongli was to be with him or against him, hence the words that he says that he would think of him if they knew what he did in the past.
as for inazuma it seems that there were no gods in the place instead he was dominated by the creatures of the dark sea.
In Sumeru there were wars and very often before the war of the archons in the Sumerian books it tells about this and many of his commanders were awarded high positions for their military achievements.
the war of the archons ended these territorial wars completely and forced the gods of lesser power to either surrender to another stronger god (the adepts as examples), flee (as orobaxi did) or die trying like the goddess of salt .

it is possible that celestia (who are possibly pretenders) were trying to minimalize the amount of divinity on teyvat. think of it, if someone like tsaritsa tried to make a rebellion when the gods were all together, celestia might have problems. but now that there are only 7...

how would salt react with other elements?

There's more than 7 elements in Genshin; to point this out; we have 3 more nations to visit, yet we already have all 7 hypostasis cubes (Dendro cube is 3.1 patch). What are we gonna do when we get to Fontaine? Yeah we'll get a Regisvine but then what
Genshin is about dreams, those who dreams the biggest will head towards the future. In order to reach for your dreams, you'll step on and end the dreams of others, but defeated dreams don't disappear, instead they form stepping stones for the bigger dreams. The Archon War was to find those who has the biggest dreams, Visions are also given to candidates with big dreams.
Dreams become memories, memories of the past support the present and helps the present fight against the future, the true enemy of dreams - destiny.
If destiny exists, how are dreams even possible, I believe whoever the god of fate is, they want to know if fate and destiny is truly set in stone and whether dreams can break the cycle of fate.

The Archon war, as stated by Nahida ( during the Samsara loop), was the war against the 7 seats. Basically the story of the " one who came" and determined the current 7 Archons ( also mentioned in Xiao's profile). Another interesting fact is that Tsaritsa is ( most likely) NOT one of the original seven either. 7 archons, 7 hypostases, Electro, Anemo, Geo and Dendro have signs of corrosion, while Cryo, Hydro and Pyro are unscathed, as if the correspondent archon is "new".
I agree with this. However, what if the Tsaritsa doesn't have corrosion on her hypostatis because things decay a lot slower when they are frozen.

For 3:09 I think you got that wrongly.I play genshin in Chinese.Ei stated that what the book said were mostly facts but not for the watasumi part.She said she was only a kagemusha who only knew how to fight.Therefore I could tell that it is true that Ei sacrificed her body to help makoto becoming the first electro archon.

So basically the archon war was a glorified Future Diary plot. With 7 seats instead of 1
It is possible that Celestia's goal simply to find the strongest (both physically and mentally) to fill up the seats that were empty (very questionably)

It was some sort of experiment to accelerate the growth of a God.
The sages believe that Rukhadevata had some kinda infinite source of knowledge through which she could solve any problems and come up with solutions for Akademic breakthroughs, but from the Archon quest Ch 3 act 1 and 2 we were shown how the first sage obtained his knowledge. Even if in a dream he gained his knowledge through various experiences which might be thecase for Rukhadevata also. Same could be said for Morax because of the stone fumble he received from Guizhong, the only way for him to open it was to experiment and learn though he was never able to open it, i think his knowledge in all things comes from that.
What I'm trying to say here is that the Archon war served as Catalyst for many Gods to grow. War does serves as a great Catalyst for progress, same could be said Khenriah too (maybe), they're so advanced in their technology and khemia more so then any other nation because they also lived through the Archon war WITHOUT a God to save them.
So I have another theory about the archon war. The "God's/Demi Dod's" of Teyvat were born from Tayvat after the "second crown" took over Celestia. Meaning all those gods were not under their control and whats' more threatening they an army of gods they could in the future take you out with powers you can't block or take away rising up to rebel against their control. I see this archon war as a culling designed by Celestia. One that could to started but holding a "prize" like a Gnosis/prestige in front of the Gnosis that greedy gods would salivate for and spark the war. Enough greedy corrupted gods start to take lands for their own regardless of who in the way means the other gods have to defend their lands/people. Celestia might at minimum need 7 to maintain balance in the world but the world was doing fine with more than 7 if you think about it that way, Moraz lived for 4000+ years and nothing was wrong before the Archon War. It's probably why they don't actually care about the fate of the Gnosis itself. Both Venti and Ei abandoned using them for hundreds of years (in this case of Venti not at all after being promoted to archon.)
Also I feel like Everyone forgoten this point (including myself until someone else pointed out). The Gnosis was created by Celestia but they are not POWDER by Celestia. Venti confirms his power is weakened because his people don't worship him like other nations. Venti promotion was original through the Gnosis. But the Gnosis is powered by the people of their region. As per the Aranara quest, the more Knowledge you again the more powerful the Spirit creatures become. Venti is not as powerful but he's not a weak young shade/wind spirit like he used to be either. ;) Morax was always powerful so he only used the gnosis to create More through elemental energy. He might see the end of the era of God's eventually despite erosion from the void/abyss creeping through the whole irminsul system.
I think Dottori has created a feedback loop in Sumeru city that acts like a Gnosis... To feed a new "Archon" Scaramouche through the Gnosis he has acquired.

what happens to Nahida in that cutscene? It shows that Kathyrn dies while Nahida’s in her body, so how would it affect her? Like, will she get hurt, or will it only damage Kathyrn and not Nahida?

I think Nahidas physical form was captured and now her only way of escaping is through Katheryne and something is stopping her from taking over other people's minds and she was captured in that cutscene.

It would also be needed to define what makes an archon be considered one. Morax is an adepti, barbatos was like a wind spirit or something like thar, we do not know what ei and Makoto are, we for sure now they are not humans (I thought the would be oni or some sort of kami) orobachi was just a giant divine snake, osial some kind of hydra, we do not know what was rukhadevata nor kusanali nor the tsaritsa.
However there is no pattern between all archons, they can take human form or have human like characteristics but they are not humans.
Maybe the Archon War is not really a war. Maybe it was perceive that way by humans because of the power scale of the archons. Maybe the "war" humans witnessed was just a tournament set up by Celestia with the objective to find the strongest archon. But if Celestia just wanted to delete weaker archons, they can just do that, right? I mean, who would complain? lmao
Im pretty sure the traveler is an archon too, if not an archon then an adeptus, because before the traveler’s power was sealed away by the sustainer of heavenly principals, he/she (depending which character u picked) was using another element that wasnt one of the seven. Not to mention he/she was living when Khaenri’ah was destroyed. That was at least a few hundred years.
The laws of Teyvat can't really be applied to pre-Descension Traveller as they (obviously) aren't from Teyvat. Their power was most probably drawn from a Path (likely Trailblaze) that can no longer be accessed due to Teyvat presumably being blocked from the rest of the Imaginary Tree (the whole "Fake Sky" thing).

I personally thing the archon war was something like the third theory and with politics. Like, I believe that the Gods formed bands and groups and leaders within those groups or something. The most popular gods would have the most teammates and most power, after all, a god draws power from directly leading a nation. Looking at out current winners, it seemed that they were the ones who were popular with other gods, and the gods that aren't left are probably the ones that died trying to fight them.
Venti is recognized by the people of Mondstadt, Andrius, and Dvalin.
Zhongli is the god of contracts. My head cannon is that Zhongli isn't necessarily the strongest god, but he's the one who made the most teammates. Guizhong, numerous adepti, yakshas, Azhdaha, Guoba. Who knows how many other gods he teamed up with that had to sacrifice themselves for his cause. (P.s. I'm not saying zhongli is weak. The lore never said he was the strongest, just the one who killed the most. Looking at the current evidence of gods he defeated, I can't say he's the strongest. Plus, according to lore, Gods gain strength from leading their nation, and Morax only lead it like once a year or something. Tangent over)
Ei and Makoto had their followers too. Different types of Yokai gods followed them from Baketanuki, kitsune, tengu, and oni. They also directly ruled over their people, and that gave them strength.
The Greater Lord of Sumeru too was supposedly acquainted with other gods from sumeru. The subzerus festival is supposedly a recreation of a festival of the gods, and when the goddess of flowers danced for the Greater Lord, it became remembered as the main event. The God of Sumeru also ruled their people in a way via akasha.
Wars happen. The Archon war is just another war that befell Teyvat. Before that, there were Sovereigns, seven of them. They were Dragon-like creatures whose might cannot be matched. i strongly adhere to the 3rd and 4th theory. As mentioned in Rex incognito, the pre-Archon War Teyvat was a mish-mash of many different tribes, each with their own personal gods. The Second Celestia probably thought that it is not enough to purge the civilizations of the First Celestia, they also need to have something to replace them to solidify their rule and "The Seven" format, most likely inspired by the Seven Sovereigns, seems like a sensible choice as any. So they let elemental beings fight amongst themselves and after a millennia of internecine conflicts the Original Seven rose as the victors.

Im only halfway through the video and i think archons seats are filled by the god who is most ambitionate, the one celestia thought would be most entertaining to watch as the archon did as it heart told it to. Morax to hold firm after the loss of his lover. Venti after he lost everyone who stood for freedom. Raiden going through times of changes, these are all things that ended up forging who they were and how they ruled, did celestia plan for it to be like this? Did they see a future where these archons are forged from conflict and chaos

the elimination was needed because due to magical elemental physics in order to have a stable control over the land-corpse there needed to be an elemental archon whose power stood far above others.

That was Andrius, whose covered mondstadt in a sudden ice storm killing most of the human populace and forcing Decarabian to maintain a defensive barrier to protect the last humans in mondstadt. To stop andrius, deca would have to go on the offense meaning lowering the defensive barrier resulting in the deaths of the humans in the time it would take for him to eleminate the source of the deadly storm.
After the people revolted against decarabian under barbatos and the defensive storm wall fell, the realized why the barrier truly existed, the knowledge that their ancestors let get distorted over generations.

I don't know how Celestia convinced the gods that a gnosis was worth killing each other for (maybe they actually threatened them?), but I believe their objective was to keep the nations in check regarding the Heavenly Principles. So they didn't have to throw nails on them anymore
However that failed too since there was one humans nation which wasn't under the 7's dominion (Khaenri'ah)

A part of me wonders if the reason so many gods were slain during the Archon War is due to Celestia wanting more control over the happenings in Teyvat. If there were a large number of gods it would be more difficult for them to keep control with there being more likelihood of some of the gods rebelling. It would explain why the only time we see a gnosis is for the gods that were victorious in the war - one per element and only held by one god each. The gnosis isn't the gods' source of powers after all - but how the connect to Celestia. Celestia already faced a threat of being overthrown (and possibly was overthrown) by the Second Who Came.
Tldr; Archon War may have been Celestia's attempt to cull any possible questioning/rebellious gods from Teyvat to further secure their position and ensure some form of allegiance from most of the victors.

Celestia needed archons that fight for the betterment of the humans in order to prevent them from seeking divinity. Only example I can come across is wall e where all humans were comfortable and lost all ambition. They became docile.
i like this idea. then again, Celestia grants visions to humans giving them the power to change the world around them, in a certain sense. we know from the Inazuma archon quest that those with visions are most likely the ones with great achievements and have big contributions to the world. but we know from Lisa's character background that these "gifts from the gods" are not to be trusted--- that before we ask for it, we must be prepared for the price.
so what if these "visions" are just a ploy for Celestia to make Teyvat revere and look up to them for grace. we know that having vision incites jealousy among people. vision-bearers are viewed as lucky and favored by gods. yet Dainsleif asked us, do we truly think that the gods care about vision-bearers more than normal people, or perhaps none of them do?
Celestia is just using visions as a promise to make the people follow their rule. however, I believe that when a vision-bearer dies or even "ascends", there is truly no seat for them in Celestia. Dainsleif said, "those thrones in the sky are not reserved for you." Hence, why we are on a journey to wake up Teyvat one nation at a time.
I've got a question that poped up when you mention from where the slimes and archons come from, we know Venti is some sort of whisp that took human form, Zhongli is an adeptus beast more specifically a chinese dragon going by the corpse he used to fake his death and those can also take human shape, there are beast men and catgirls in the world of genshin like Gorou or Diona whose origin I believe is not very elaborated but I would assume is something similar to Ganyu and Yanfei or I guess Yae who could be coming from something like a sacred nine tailed fox and a human like in Inuyasha assuming she were something more special and unique than Sucrose who has very similar traits, Itto is an oni or a kind of demon or ogre depending who you ask and depending on what he is at the end it can bring up a lot of possibilities to the lore lol BUT, TO WHAT SPECIES DOES BAAL AND BEELZEBUL BELONG TO??? I'm not so deep into the lore as you are but from the average traveler perspective they seem to be just some "thunder blessed" human babies with access to magic or a couple of girls that got their visions and 100% their power fantasy game but I kinda refuse to think it would be that simple knowing how convoluted Genshin lore is

Celestia needed control, Archons are pawns placed strategically where they need, To spread control over the stretch of lands. When a civilization has met it's mark or gone too far Celestia not only had surplus power to do as they need to control the land but also a nice little archon to hide behind. The traveler leaving this world without being archons or god's themselves would be just another representation of humanity gone "too far". Though this time the primordial one for some reason felt inclined to handle this issue rather than someone else.
I think the archon war has to be related with the replacement of Phanes in some way

just throwing this out but: what if having so many gods around since their existence itself comes from the elemental plane makes things a bit… wonky. celestia by defining a single most powerful one to each nation disguised as ruler when in reality they are only a means of harnessing and/or controlling elemental energy more efficiently. you’d think if there are many of them all the power/energy would be spread out or difficult to deal with. having one to ascend and giving them a gnosis for supervision (or a way to gather this energy in a more precise way) would be the celestial god’s fake out in 1. getting population control over who gets to use the power at hand 2. having a direct line to the elemental realm through them and the gnosis

I don't think the archons come from the Elemental Realm, but are either aliens like Celestia or have alien origins. That being said I think all these theories have validity given the scarce yet contrasting amount of in-game evidence
