Imagine if Paimon just becomes a free playable character at the end of the game after regaining her original powers, memory, and possibly original form, and she’s slotted into your party as a trial character during the final fight, able to fight alongside the Traveler with her powers, a far cry from her powerlessness when the Shogun threatened to strike down the Traveler or when Scaramouche brought the Traveler to his/her knees.

I love a detail in the 1st Dain quest cutscene, when Aether is still reeling after having seen Lumine for the 1st time and he takes off after her heading to the portal. It seems like he's feet are mving of their own accord, he's not really thinking, just going. And Paimon? Paimon just goes with him. She takes one look at him, realizes he's not all there right now, and resolves to go with him. No matter what is on the other side of that portal, Aether goes, so she goes. Paimon cemented herself as a "ride or die" companion in my mind in that moment. I hadn't really appreciated her before this, but that's the moment I fell in love with her character

Yes, I belive something like this will happen. This is a miHoYo/Hoyoverse game at the end of the day, and they love doing similar stuff to this. I don't think Genshin will be so different from their previous games in this regard.
If you consider that Paimon might be Phanes itself, the Original One (Genshin), The First Who Came, usurped and depowered by the Second Who Came, and this journey is as much of (re)discovery for her and for the Traveler. Thus a betrayal would be the reveal of what Paimon actually is and that she never mentioned this to the Traveler, despite knowing all along, rather than a physical betrayal. It could also very well be that Paimon, in order for the Traveler to ascend, as posited on the trailer for the game's chapters and some lines in the traveler's character screen, would have to relinquish her existence, thus sacrificing herself to allow the Traveler to oust the Sustainer and reform Celestia. Either way all we can do rn is conjecture.
I'm thinking about smth like a Yune-and-Ashera analogy. Paimon and Sustainer were originally a single entity, but some messed-up crap happened that led to the original goddess having to split into two, either willingly by herself, or forcefully by someone else.

They did this in honkai multiple times. Main character name Kiana, saves a girl and pretty much they remain bffs for like 3+ years. Then she is kidnapped and her dark side awakens. The other girl called mei comes to save her. Only to end up choked and beaten and almost killed. Then Kiana gets reverse brain washed and returns to normal but constantly fighting her dark side. Then eventually mei finds her and proceeds to beat the crap out of her and going with the bad guys. Well mostly because the bad guys promised her that this way she can save Kiana. And then the bad guys weren't thaaat bad. Point is: they can make "betrayals' work in a story

Paimon could be a god of constellations, after all Paimon (as a demon) is characterized as someone who knows a lot of things and the one who is willing to share this knowledge given a valid reason, perhaps after creating the sky as Teyvat knows it Paimon was reduced to much simpler and reduced form.

@@vino-k5650 With all due respect, the Constellations in the Christian belief are the guidance, if we agree on the idea that Genshin borrows from Gnosticism as one of the core influences, these constellations are luckily representations of divine guidance which is interpreted by mortals in the ways they can understand. While we have characters who explain what they think or belief constellations are, we can safely say it's what these characters believe things are, so we can toss it over for speculation. So I would say you can run as far with ur speculation as u choose to.
Paimon can't die or betray us, since she speaks in A LOT of optional world quests. If she died/left us (when the game completes), then players who didn't do these world quests will awkwardly meet Paimon despite her not being with us anymore. The interaction in Teapot will also be out of place since it requires "herself" to be present. Genshin's storytelling is different from Honkai. Genshin follows a storyline that cannot be repeated, meaning anything that happens before cannot be overwritten (unless it's part of the plot) and features/stories that are permanently available must be playable even after the main story is over . This is also the reason why we can't replay any Story/Archon/World Quests. Hangout Quests are an infinite loops of events that occasionally happens throughout the game. Replaying any hangout events still perfectly fits even after the event already occurs, they are just a normal daily occurence when the characters meet us. As of now, none of the hangout endings contradicts this statement.

The person who made the monster game going to the top of the tower to get their memories back mentioned something specifically about it to tell Mihiyo as well. It wad phrased even better then I could have even written it as well. It was however missing my explanations that I wrote that further clarified with 100% accuracy the details regarding it: something that they were already likely well aware of already somehow written up already before they likely thought of what to about. I definitely wrote up the same thing pretty closely as what you wrote up as well as writing additionally about including other details included in there as well while I was still thinking about it at the time.
It is likely confusing the staff that is currently looking at it right now considering that I specifically also mentioned in there roughly when the events surrounding each of the mini quests for each character would be released in the game as well. I even mentioned when exactly the people playing the game would actually be doing them as well based their each individual personality traits as well. Mihiyo definitely mentioned that it would get a lot of attention if was posted online in the future, and I made certain that it could be posted as it was without any changes as well with no spoilers to the game as well. It makes me wonder what exactly Mihiyo is thinking about all the comments and videos being made about the game with them being fairly certain that they would eventually get made sometime in the future as well.

The suggestion of "Paimon has betrayed you" by an antagonist might hint at a future Hostage Situation framed as "YOUR PIXIE HAS ABANDONED Y-" "paimon would never abandon her emergency chef: bring me back my small flying child".

I heard a theory a while ago that Paimon is an artificial "human" of sorts. And as much as I like that theory, I have to admit there really isn't any evidence to support it. Though it still is quite an intriguing idea.

The book Before Sun and Moon, said to be forbidden and the cause of Orobaxi's demise, thus state of Phane's being usurped by the Second Who Came, losing a part of his power in the process. It could well be that Paimon is Phanes itself, at a lesser capacity. She does have a crown and her scarf could be construed for a facsimile of wings, which Phanes was also said to have. Furthermore, unique as she is, no one in Teyvat bats an eye to her existence, often mistaking her for some fairy or sprite. Phanes is theorized to have walked among mortals and communicate with them, evidenced by the destroyed civilizations of Dragonspine and Tsurumi, as well as Enkanomiya and the Chasm which all share similar architectural structures, thus predating Khaenriah and the Cataclysm. They were destroyed by the Sustainer to erase mentions of Phanes and his shades, thus making people believe the current Celestia rule is the original one, when in fact it is the second rule.
I don't believe Paimon will betray Traveler simply because of her name and its source. Paimon is Lucifer's right hand man. We don't know who Lucifer is in game, and since that name holds so much real weight for a large enough portion of the world, I don't think they'll ever directly use it, but I believe Lucifer is Traveler. Lucifer means Bringer of Light. Lumine and Aether are both names that invoke the idea of light. I have nothing else to go on other than that, but I'm sure if I looked a little harder, I could find more pins to attach the conspiracy thread to.
Lumine isn't a concept But aether is. He's an ancient element in the Greek philosophy, one that respond to light itself. Probably, the fallen light itself is Aether.

I stole this theory from another video, but I think it's really sound. The archons are chess pieces. Or at least, their gnoses are. 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, a queen and a king. Rex Lapis and the Tsaritsa are the rooks. Kusanali and Ei are the bishops. The pyro and hydro archons are the knights. Venti is the queen, meaning he should be paired with a hitherto unknown archon who would be king. Paimon would fit that bill. One, she's the only non-archon that has a name from Ars Goetia. That right there is strong evidence that she actually IS an archon, but perhaps one that's lost her power (much like the dendro archon). 8 archons to carry 8 gnoses that represent chess pieces would make sense. 8 archons that carry the power of 4 shades of the primordial one, also seems sensible. So perhaps Istaroth's role has been assumed by Barbatos and an unknown time archon. It's not a huge leap to see Paimon as a weakened time archon. Shot herself into the future during the Khaenri'ah crisis, only to find that her land had sunk beneath the waves and she was adrift on the ocean, to be fished out shortly thereafter by the traveller. The huge expenditure of energy cost her most of her maturity and knowledge and after 500 years of absence with no land or people to remember her, well, no one remembers her. Except Venti, but being that he would have been close with the theoretical time archon and probably aware of her plans, he's not spoiling it.
This lol. In this aspect a Paimon betrayal would necessarily constitute a Point-of-No-Return, so if it happens it will be basically at the end of the main story.
@@Reydriel Even if it could possibly occur in the game, the game is still scripted to correspond the appropriate cutscene to the exact timing when it get unlocked inside of the game by the company. Mihiyo also told me privately when exactly they planned to release the cutscene of what I was watching regarding the truth about Kathyyn inside of the game; it was already planned to get released way, way, way later on when they felt that almost everyone had at least heard of the game and felt comfortable watching it as well. I do not remember thankfully when it was going to get exactly released as well.
Miyiho was honestly really open about telling me things based on what I was communicating with them about on the most part with the exception of the honestly very few things that they either could not tell me, or simply did not feel like disclosing to me as well.
I think Paimon is being set up right now as a mysterious and possibly powerful entity for the end game. I think we will learn how powerful she is later and she joins us in our fight as an customizable auxiliary support. Then in the story she will have the opportunity to betray us and fulfill her destiny. We would be pinned by the enemy and she will choose to switch sides so that our lives would be spared. During the final fight Paimon will sacrifice herself to obstruct the enemy from their side in order to give the resistance a fighting chance because we are at a great disadvantage and our deaths seem inevitable.
If Paimon is Phanes, the Primordial One, her sacrifice (thus a "betrayal" of sorts) will allow the Traveler to Ascend and become the new High God of Teyvat, reinstating the old rule of Celestial and ousting the Sustainer. We already know, by text in the game, that the Traveler is bound to Ascend to the Throne of God.
Plot twist, Paimon is actually the vessel in which the Travelers came to Teyvat (The Spaceship). Her 3rd stomach is actually a bubble universe in which the Travelers reside as they travel across worlds. However both Paimon and the Traveler lost that memory, yet that bond is so strong they found each other anyways. 😂 don't take anything I say seriously.
This reminds me of a Dr. Who episode where the TARDIS, his time machine, got a human body. So yeah, there's a precedent for this type of story path, hahaha. ^_^
Yeah, I always feel sad whenever the "emergency food" running gag appears in-game, it's kinda telling, well, to me at least. Personally what I'm bracing myself for is not a hostile betrayal nor a forced one, but more akin to the traveller having no choice but to drain/consume Paimon's power as it is the only way to counter the ultimate big bad (something similar to MC needing to have "abyss powers" to interact with the abyss portal, etc, maybe Paimon's has something to do with Celestia?), and Paimon knowing about that eventuality without telling the traveller is the only betrayal our sweet sweet floating summer child is capable of. ='( Oh, and good take on the high food consumption part. I got so used to gods/entities of Knowledge being characteristically gluttonous that it just got way over my head that Paimon might be accumulating power/memory as well. ^_^
I wonder if when Paimon regains her memories/power will she have like a different form similar to how Gouba wasn't this small when he had his full power.
Paimon betraying us would be simultaneously extremely on the nose - with all that blatant winking about Paimon being sus and named after Paimon and shit - and extremely undercooked. The twist that requires your character to reveal that their entire personality was a lie is a bad twist. It tells your audience to stop giving shit about anything because behind everything can be a massive "got you" middle finger. And she's also game's mascot even embedded in the UI.
I mean it kinda make sense if it turns out the twins are a representation of lucifer or other fallen angels. As they also fell from a heaven like place trying to fight a god like entity.
Since we don't know how her flight works: Maybe she needs to eat so much to gain enough energy to keep her in the air the whole time ;) I just wish we could headpat her after her cute reactions to the traveller teasing her or in this moments were she gets scared.

That specific cutscene was programmed into the game at that specific point in time before Mihiyo even thought about making the cutscenes that do infact explain everything that she explained as well I believe, I know that much about it. I knew already that this particular conversation would get all of the comments mentioning the detials included inside of them, the moment that I found the actual cutscene where she explains herself as why she talked about what she did in the presence of the character as well. Also definitely the way that the cutscenes were made and designed ARE NOT BEING used in the game by creation order!!! Otherwise the people playing the game would be seeing the actual cutscene involving the dragon tear being used as soon they deemed it was appropriate to at least be activated inside of the game. Based on the cutscene content itself it might shortly after the main character is introduced to the four characters in question being mentioned. It is probably activated by past a certain point of possibly even prior to entering Liyue maybe as well.
It should at least be somewhat accurate considering that the cutscene itself does not even mention anything about Liyue as well. They also preprogrammed inside of the cutscene to specifically mention NOT to watch if you are a new player to the game, to turn away before proceeding with the text as well. I believe that I even saw exactly what Mihiyo wrote about this exact situation already with them already mentioning that even if they have the cretria to trigger the cutscene inside of the game, the cutscene still will not automatically trigger inside the game m; and has to triggered manually by the person playing the game as well. I know that I found the cutscene that was made already by the staff way back then to play during that particular timing as well.
I would assume that then there is domains that were made to be triggered then and there manually triggered during set cutscenes because of the fact that they are well aware that the large majority of the player base might be uncomfortable with actually doing them as well. I know that I somehow did the domain where Zonghli mentions giving the medicine to Xiao, except it explained exactly why Paimon SHOULD NOT BE taking the medicine at all.
Great timming Aster I noticed something interesting a little while back You know how everyone keeps saying that Paimon is the God of time because she's the only thing able to move when opening the menu but this is not true because wind also keeps flowing when you open the menu You can see this when you open the menu while gliding
Catwithbluehat did a great video on this. There’s also the fact that you can’t pause in domains and coop, the fact that passing time is literally called “waiting,” and the fact that (if Paimon is in the teapot), she doesn’t show up in the pause menu (just in the teapot, I think?).
Paimon won't betray the traveler for a simple reason, she is too tied for gameplay reasons. Hoyoverse wanted a silent protagonist so the players are able to put themselves in their shoes and Paimons acts like the voice of the traveler. She is also important/shown in many quests and it would be literally impossible for hoyoverse to make a story were she betrays the traveler. However it's still able to create a storyline for a betrayal, it would only be a small one. Like "she wanted to betray them but didn't wanted to do it anymore and the releationsship is stained" or "In a beginning of an important quest she betrays them and in the end of the quest she joins them again" but nothing big.
Miyiho already explained themselves on why the travler never really talks at all in the game, although the cutscenes in Sumeru involving Nahida were made for a very specific reason as to why he /she is actually speaking in those cutscenes. I believe that they said that were going to wait to show Hoyoverse the message directly unless a staff member there finds it first and questions it. Hoyoverse may or may not actually be capable of creating the cutscene involving Paimon's betrayal depending they view it based on their similar but separate policies that differ a slight bit different from Miyiho's.
Miyiho definitely mentioned they were already interested in including the particular quote that was included inside of the video with them clearly explaining what its purpose was to the game along with other quotes that they even already said way back that would eventually get added into the right video concepts talking about it as well. They also knew that everything that already talked about and going to eventually be talking about would catch a lot of attention online, and would immediately want to read all day and not possibly go to work if you have any.
I believe that I fully explained everything that you talked about in separate paragraphs scattered around as I was writing up information about Paimon. I am not fully certain if the content is written in a way that the general public is really to see right now ot not. I think for some reason I could not even write a message better than what Mihiyo already wrote for the same exact reason. It might have just been additional angles to the situation, if I even wrote any of them at all. I believe that Mihiyo mentioned that other people tried as well to write up statements regarding the message, but I still managed to include information that they did not even bring up; or I wrote up the message with correct certainty, something that both Mihiyo and i knew would eventually catch them off guard when and if they were to eventually locate it themselves later on. Either that and/or made a message that correctly made theirs more complete before they even thought to write up sometimes.
Miyiho even wanted anyone to write up messages written like this talking about past content written like this intentionally, since it is phrased in a way that possibly do not remember writing themselves. After all the technology did not even exist yet to save the content in forms that would be acceptable to anyone for adequate viewing pleasure as of then. Email did surprisingly exist as the time, and yet no one I believe actually used it for anything than communication between family members possibly only back then.
The way that the content is actually written is written is such a way that it is more throughly explained in a way that could only get honestly recapped how it is being explained here without resorting back to the original method for more/further clarity on the specific matter at hand as well. The same thing is true for almost any statement written in this type of style as well. Only very, very fde statements did I write them the samw exact way that Mihiyo did as well. If you are unable to actually write that well yourself, then you are unable to actually be a really good presenter as well. Either you already knew how to write well, or you learn because you have to; either way it very clearly shows.
The theory I currently believe in the most is the “Paimon lost her memories from Celestia, and is forced to fight you at the end of the game where she betrays Celestia and gives all her Celestial powers to the traveller so they can fight and defeat Celestia”. The theory that Paimon intentionally will betray you is farfetched imo, because there’s no evidence that she’s faking her friendship with the traveller at all.
thing that sparked in my mind when you brought up the potential scenario of paimon being forced to forget the connection with the traveler, specifically the version of the emotions being removed; an actual bond [such as love, friendship, whatever] isn't an emotion. if paimon somehow is rendered unable to feel her emotions even from the memories then she'd still be able to remember the bond she had with the traveler, even if it might take a bit to actually connect those factors. normally such a trope would have the person's emotions burst through but one doctor who episode managed it in a way i find fairly well done; the characters were still emotionless but they still loved their precious people and acted on that love. of course if mihoyo does end up doing such a thing it would still probably be really annoying if they didn't perfectly get the delivery across, and it would be best if such a thing ended with paimon somehow recovering the ability to feel what with how integral paimon is to daily gameplay immersion
Venti meantions 3 gods in the manga who gave their bodies, this was meantion when traveler asked about Celestia, as for Paimon she is probably the child of Primal One since the war broke out from the second who came, According to the writer of the game he meantion on Discord that “in order to protect Humanity itself ones child should save the people of this realm but it’s up to the player to find out who that child is” this writer was referring to the end of the game and the only child we know is Paimon....

I think it's too early to think the Shades Abandoned the People of Enkanomiya. Being from the Primordial one who cared for those people, I doubt they abandoned the People Willingly. The Timing of this happening during another conflict, add the fact that the Primordial one can no longer be seen afterwards and the fact the only evidence we have of the Primordial one's "victory" was from the perspective of a Scholar who wasn't able to witness the Conflicts conclusion. And the fact Genshin is a story that already shows us how events can be remembered differently from what happen for various reasons. ( Havria from Zhongli, Azdhaha, Tsurumi Island and how the people mistook the Thunder bird as their protector that wanted sacrifaces it never asked for) And I can see the Twist coming that the Shades were defeated or captured leaving only Istaroth to escape due to their power over time allowing them to exist outside of the current reality and Moment itself.
When I said that I meant it from a narrative perspective dictated by the people of Enkanomiya who felt...abandoned. Objectively though, we have nO idea.

I still think she is the sustainer, albeit losing most of her memories and somehow getting shrunk (if venti can turn from a wisp into a human, and zhong from a big dragon into a human, going from adult woman to child size pixie is not impossible), or that she at the very least is a "fraction" of the being. And even if her friendship with the traveler is real now, that does not mean by definition that in the end it will remain that way. Paimon also knows way more than she remotely lets on, with 90% of her comments and questions being rather dumb whilst on the flip side she can show a very intelligent understanding of things and that contrast is rather suspicious. And honestly i disagree that it'd be boring for her to "betray" (or more accurately, remembering what/why she has/wants to), just because it is anticipated does not make it boring, i'd like nothing more than the story to go there. I'm get annoyed by obvious red flags in the story (not with her specifically but all stories and quests overall) just not at all being addressed or recognized. Like why is there a celestial pillar in the chasm, why is there one on dragonspine, they note its existence but it doesn't go any further than "hmm, weird" when those could actually lead to answers.
Honestly, yes. Something being anticipated doesn't make it boring... usually. And this theory is one of the exceptions to me, with it being so fucking common. I just, hope for something different. Like, why not go for something more unique? You have such an interesting world and lore, why go for a trope that's so oversaturated at this point? Why go for the thing almost everyone WOULD expect, some even thinking so since the start? That wouldn't feel like a satisfying twist, even if I believed it. Unless they somehow manage to give a really unique spin to the trope, I hope it doesn't happen.
If we assume that she's the sustainer, then that means SOMETHING BIG happened in Celestia which caused the Sustainer to shrink herself and lose her memory. Especially since the Sustainer seemed hostile to the Travelers and wanted to Trap them In Teyvat. Maybe something happened with the Sustainer that made her realize the error of trapping the Traveler twins? maybe it's a bigger plot to reunite the twins? Because there's a REASON that the Travelers weren't downright killed for trespassing. If Paimon is the sustainer, we have NO idea what the next plan is atm, so all we can do now is wait.
@@ChillwithAster Given Raiden cut herself off from Celestia and to my knowledge the other archons don't know what's going on there either, i do expect there's something happening with Celestia. There's got to be a reason the pillars fell down, i'm not sure about the one in Dragonspine but i think the one in the Chasm is responsible for the catalysm there 500 years ago. But as i sad, they haven't really remarked much on it. It seems to me that the falling of the pillars and thus something happening in Celestia might be the reason the Traveller and the Abyss sibling are released/escape wakes up during the destruction of Khaenriah and might by extension suggest the weakening or change of the sustainer. But yes, all we can do is wait is regretfully the truth in most games of this genre, and i expect it'll be a long time before actual answers are given to questions like these.
Thank god someone said it. My personal thoughts with Paimon are that she has severe amnesia. That she was created by Celestia to keep an eye on the traveler (perhaps to keep them from the abyss order so celestia wouldnt have TWO powerful enemies, ect.) but in her falling from Celestia, the water impact (and possibly some other factors, we have no idea how long she was in th water for example) caused heavy amnesia. Paimon forgot her origins, forgot her mission. That when she gains those memories back, it will be a genuine battle of nature vs nurture as you said. Paimon remembers her past, but she also knows the truths about Celestia now (afterall she laments on the cruleties of celestia during the chasm quests, how would she feel if she knew she was from there?). And she has to choose between the people who created her, or the traveler and whatever theyre fighting for by that point.
Gonna sound like a broken record, but Honkai did something like this and imo they did very well. It helps that said character was given enough backstory so that you know why they either want to destroy humanity or try to save it.

I think Paimon is going to be killed off. In story structures, there's a part called "The darkest moment" (it goes by lots of other names but basically the worst thing that could happen happens). Paimon has been the only one to stay by us through the whole journey, so her death would be an amazing darkest moment.
I believe that an outcome being "predictable" is not even a bad thing if we are talking about a good writing, in fact if you can predict the outcome of a story it could mean that the narrative has been organic, consistent and with good foreshadowing. The thing here is the execution of said predictable outcome, if indeed is onedimensonal 180 of a personality and it disregards the build up of the characters then it is indeed bad writing, but if the execution is right, even if it would appear to be the most obvious finale, it would still be good objectively speaking.
one of my main theories is that the abyss sibling continued their fight with the SoHP while we were pretty much darted 500 years into the future and in that fight the sustainer got bested or tricked and was reduced to the paimon we see now. but instead of trying to stop the traveller this time because of their trespassing, i believe paimon (just like her flying and teleporting) is instinctively trying to rehabilitate the traveller and influence them to side with the gods. this would explain why people arent too jaded when they see paimon cause her kind is a familiar type and paimon isnt necessarily a bad guy because in the end despite their previous encounter she still cares for and wants the best for the traveller and the world if true, paimon's realization/shift wouldnt be one of true betrayal or true loyalty but instead a struggle that the traveller and paimon would be able to work out together and maybe even open up our only major choice besides which twin we became, to choose between the abyss or the gods.
there's one thing i can never stop thinking abt: why is our abyss twin not shocked or surprised or even suspicious of paimon when we meet them? why is enjou the only abyss creature that "warns" us about her? does our twin know something about paimon that we dont? ahhhh
I remember hearing "Good writing is predictable" somewhere. I think it was a video on FF14's story (either a piece or in its entirety. So, having Paimon "betray" is not bein far-fetched. It reminds me of a character in FF14 as well. (spoilers ahead for Stormblood expansion) . . . . . . . . . . The character that I am referring to is Yotsuyu. A main villain/antagonist in the first part of the Stormblood expansion (4.0) who was mistreated by her aunt and uncle and younger brother. which made her hate Doma (the country she is in) and its people. She would go on to support another enemy nation to fulfill her desire for revenge. However, plot happens and she suffers great memory loss (acts like a child) but was treated with kindness by another soldier of Doma despite knowing she was the cause of all the suffering in Doma. When she did regain her memories, albeit slowly (and in small parts), her behavior changes back to her vicious self but the small act of kindness that one person showed her stuck with her. So much so, she only targets the people responsible for her suffering (her aunt and uncle and brother). However, our character has to stop her because she turned into a Primal (a sort of God). In her final moments, she does not hate our character and only thinks of the kindness that person her. . . . . So, Paimon might remember who she truly is and we may need to fight her to stop her.
Predictability isn't inherently bad, BUT the twist villain motif is a really difficult thing to execute especially with a character so beloved. It has the same vibes as Hans from Frozen, which is why if they want to do this, my best suggestion is to create a nuance to Paimon's regaining of power. Genshin's writing is so perplex that I really hope they won't stoop so to a standard "Paimon is the true evil villain all alon and she'll kill the traveler and this is all a masterplan" without creating the needed nuance. Everything in Genshin has depth, from antagonist writing (childe, signora, scaramouche) to protagonist writing (venti, zhongli, ei). To simply say that Paimon will betray is doing Genshin's writing such a disservice because betray is too strong of a word. A lot of people think that paimon will turn a 180 terminator style, and if that were to happen, that would be such a quick character assassination that it's so uncalled for. Paimon herself is going through an emotional arc and to suddenly turn into an evil god to betray the Traveler would take away at least 7-8 years (assuming this happens in Khaenriah) of careful relationship building between the Traveler and Paimon.
I love the notion of Paimon being the most loyal to Lucifer because, in an incredble coincidence, the name i gave my MC Ether, was Samael...almost 2 years ago.
my theory is Paimon's unknowingly being used by either Celestia(or another hidden faction) to keep an eye on the traveler and the reveal will make the traveler finally question her loyalty but I don't think she'll betray us at the end and perhaps even sacrifice herself for us if need be. there are theories about her possibly being either the or related to the god of time and if that turns out to be true, I think there will be a new mechanic introduced in the future where paimon awakens and finally becomes helpful in fights where she can now assist traveler in combat by using her time-related abilities like let's say "time fracture" surrounding enemies just like in honkai impact similar to the ELF system.
While I personally love Paimon and enjoy having her around, I'm also certain she's probably going to betray us at some point one way or another. While I don't believe Paimon will ever be malicious towards us due to our bond together, I also believe that there is a LOT of room for Paimon to have something revealed about her that could completely change how we see her. Let's be real here Paimon HAS TO be something special because if she wasn't I don't see why they would withhold information about her for so long. I trust Paimon enough that I'd be friends with her but I still doubt her because there is a lot I don't know about her. Not to mention I've always found Paimon's knowledge to be inconsistent at times, she knows a lot which would imply she's either been to a lot of places or she's done a lot of research like read books and stuff (though knowing her I kinda doubt this one a little). There are other times when Paimon seem completely clueless to certain things. I don't exactly fault her for not knowing EVERYTHING but because of my lack of understanding of Paimon's life before the Traveler, I have no idea how she came to know even half of what she does. I don't personally believe Paimon will betray us out of malice but rather an outside influence makes her do it such as being ordered to by some being she's loyal to or possibly an outside power forces her to against her will.
i think a cool plot point that keeps the theory that Paimon is the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles is having her revealed as such at some point but after having traveled alongside us and seeing that humanity is not as bad/arrogant as she once thought, she comes to regret what she's done in the past and continues to aid us in our journey. It would be very in line with Paimon's current personality and the misdirect of who the true villain of the story is would be interesting
This could be what that line about betrayal was referring to from the enkanomiya quest. that paimon is not who we think she is but if this is the case, i think their friendship will win in the end
Wasn't Albedo's theory that she was essentially a real advanced organ of traveler's? Literally maybe not, but like metaphorically can she be the reason they currently have powers? Paimon eats so much more than she'd probably reasonably need just for her levitation and stuff maybe that energy goes to Traveler? Also I think a solid thing against a Paimon betrayal is just logistically it'd be a nightmare. Paimon is pretty engrained in the UI and dialogue and removing her eventually through betrayal would mean she'd have to suddenly disappear in every other aspect which seems highly unreasonable to me

I think it would be interesting if she turned out to just be a member of some unknown or rare species that live secluded on some corner of Teyvat. I can't really point to any definitive in-game proof for this; I mostly came up with this idea on the spot because it reminds me of a similar plot point in Okami. Paimon's clothing and fashion could be reminiscent of Celestia due to her species' past ties, explaining why she's just as clueless about it as we are. She also seems really evasive about where she comes from and what she is, which may suggest she left her home for less than pleasant reasons. While this could've been due to exile, it could also just be due to wanderlust - the latter could be why, as our self-styled 'guide', she knows bits and pieces and trivia about the other nations but not any specifics. Also yeah I don't want her to be evil either :( no matter how high her voice can get sometimes she's too fluffy and adorable, I just can't stay mad at her. She's also been genuinely concerned about the Traveller's physical and mental well-being since I believe the start of the game, so no I don't think she'd ever betray us (at least not willingly)

I kind of a wild idea. What if Paimon is a artificial human of sorts created by one of the alchemists of the destroyed nations (might be Khaenri'ah). I did not have enough material back this up to become a theory...but it's something that crossed my mind.

Odd gaming observation. While the Traveler isn't a silent protagonist, Paimon does do the lion's share of talking during story quests. On the flipside, during comissions, Paimon is mostly silent. From a game design standpoint, this could possibly be futureproofing for a period that we may not have Paimon with us (How we will still have access to the pause menu unknown.) I'm certain there are other exeptions to this, but the only one that comes to mind offhand is "Tales of Winter" where we talk to the Fatus in the Church and he suggests us joining the Fatui, and we can ask him one question about the group. Assuming that the major Paimon event is likely to occur after the Shneznaya section, this quest would likely change by then anyways, seeing as by then our relationship with the organization will already be different. Of course, there are probably others that shoot this theory in the foot, but I can't remember them.

I love a detail in the 1st Dain quest cutscene, when Aether is still reeling after having seen Lumine for the 1st time and he takes off after her heading to the portal. It seems like he's feet are mving of their own accord, he's not really thinking, just going. And Paimon? Paimon just goes with him. She takes one look at him, realizes he's not all there right now, and resolves to go with him. No matter what is on the other side of that portal, Aether goes, so she goes. Paimon cemented herself as a "ride or die" companion in my mind in that moment. I hadn't really appreciated her before this, but that's the moment I fell in love with her character

If you consider that Paimon might be Phanes itself, the Original One (Genshin), The First Who Came, usurped and depowered by the Second Who Came, and this journey is as much of (re)discovery for her and for the Traveler. Thus a betrayal would be the reveal of what Paimon actually is and that she never mentioned this to the Traveler, despite knowing all along, rather than a physical betrayal. It could also very well be that Paimon, in order for the Traveler to ascend, as posited on the trailer for the game's chapters and some lines in the traveler's character screen, would have to relinquish her existence, thus sacrificing herself to allow the Traveler to oust the Sustainer and reform Celestia. Either way all we can do rn is conjecture.
I'm thinking about smth like a Yune-and-Ashera analogy. Paimon and Sustainer were originally a single entity, but some messed-up crap happened that led to the original goddess having to split into two, either willingly by herself, or forcefully by someone else.

Main character name Kiana, saves a girl and pretty much they remain bffs for like 3+ years.
Then she is kidnapped and her dark side awakens. The other girl called mei comes to save her. Only to end up choked and beaten and almost killed.
Then Kiana gets reverse brain washed and returns to normal but constantly fighting her dark side. Then eventually mei finds her and proceeds to beat the crap out of her and going with the bad guys. Well mostly because the bad guys promised her that this way she can save Kiana. And then the bad guys weren't thaaat bad.
Point is: they can make "betrayals' work in a story

@@vino-k5650 With all due respect, the Constellations in the Christian belief are the guidance, if we agree on the idea that Genshin borrows from Gnosticism as one of the core influences, these constellations are luckily representations of divine guidance which is interpreted by mortals in the ways they can understand. While we have characters who explain what they think or belief constellations are, we can safely say it's what these characters believe things are, so we can toss it over for speculation. So I would say you can run as far with ur speculation as u choose to.
Paimon can't die or betray us, since she speaks in A LOT of optional world quests. If she died/left us (when the game completes), then players who didn't do these world quests will awkwardly meet Paimon despite her not being with us anymore. The interaction in Teapot will also be out of place since it requires "herself" to be present.
Genshin's storytelling is different from Honkai. Genshin follows a storyline that cannot be repeated, meaning anything that happens before cannot be overwritten (unless it's part of the plot) and features/stories that are permanently available must be playable even after the main story is over . Hangout Quests are an infinite loops of events that occasionally happens throughout the game. Replaying any hangout events still perfectly fits even after the event already occurs, they are just a normal daily occurence when the characters meet us. As of now, none of the hangout endings contradicts this statement.

The person who made the monster game going to the top of the tower to get their memories back mentioned something specifically about it to tell Mihiyo as well. It wad phrased even better then I could have even written it as well. It was however missing my explanations that I wrote that further clarified with 100% accuracy the details regarding it: something that they were already likely well aware of already somehow written up already before they likely thought of what to about. I definitely wrote up the same thing pretty closely as what you wrote up as well as writing additionally about including other details included in there as well while I was still thinking about it at the time.
Miyiho was definitely intially caught off guard about the content, and made me say roughly when I wrote up the message to them to have for the record.
It is likely confusing the staff that is currently looking at it right now considering that I specifically also mentioned in there roughly when the events surrounding each of the mini quests for each character would be released in the game as well. I even mentioned when exactly the people playing the game would actually be doing them as well based their each individual personality traits as well. Mihiyo definitely mentioned that it would get a lot of attention if was posted online in the future, and I made certain that it could be posted as it was without any changes as well with no spoilers to the game as well. It makes me wonder what exactly Mihiyo is thinking about all the comments and videos being made about the game with them being fairly certain that they would eventually get made sometime in the future as well.
any betrayal from Paimon would be wholly unintentional on her part: the only time Paimon COULD betray Traveler is in the event that they were Separated. The suggestion of "Paimon has betrayed you" by an antagonist might hint at a future Hostage Situation framed as "YOUR PIXIE HAS ABANDONED Y-" "paimon would never abandon her emergency chef: bring me back my small flying child".

I heard a theory a while ago that Paimon is an artificial "human" of sorts. And as much as I like that theory, I have to admit there really isn't any evidence to support it. Though it still is quite an intriguing idea.

The book Before Sun and Moon, said to be forbidden and the cause of Orobaxi's demise, thus state of Phane's being usurped by the Second Who Came, losing a part of his power in the process. It could well be that Paimon is Phanes itself, at a lesser capacity. She does have a crown and her scarf could be construed for a facsimile of wings, which Phanes was also said to have. Furthermore, unique as she is, no one in Teyvat bats an eye to her existence, often mistaking her for some fairy or sprite. Phanes is theorized to have walked among mortals and communicate with them, evidenced by the destroyed civilizations of Dragonspine and Tsurumi, as well as Enkanomiya and the Chasm which all share similar architectural structures, thus predating Khaenriah and the Cataclysm. They were destroyed by the Sustainer to erase mentions of Phanes and his shades, thus making people believe the current Celestia rule is the original one, when in fact it is the second rule.

I don't believe Paimon will betray Traveler simply because of her name and its source. Paimon is Lucifer's right hand man. We don't know who Lucifer is in game, and since that name holds so much real weight for a large enough portion of the world, I don't think they'll ever directly use it, but I believe Lucifer is Traveler. Lucifer means Bringer of Light. Lumine and Aether are both names that invoke the idea of light. I have nothing else to go on other than that, but I'm sure if I looked a little harder, I could find more pins to attach the conspiracy thread to.

I stole this theory from another video, but I think it's really sound. The archons are chess pieces. Or at least, their gnoses are. 2 rooks, 2 knights, 2 bishops, a queen and a king. Rex Lapis and the Tsaritsa are the rooks. Kusanali and Ei are the bishops. The pyro and hydro archons are the knights. Venti is the queen, meaning he should be paired with a hitherto unknown archon who would be king. Paimon would fit that bill. One, she's the only non-archon that has a name from Ars Goetia. That right there is strong evidence that she actually IS an archon, but perhaps one that's lost her power (much like the dendro archon). 8 archons to carry 8 gnoses that represent chess pieces would make sense. 8 archons that carry the power of 4 shades of the primordial one, also seems sensible. So perhaps Istaroth's role has been assumed by Barbatos and an unknown time archon. It's not a huge leap to see Paimon as a weakened time archon. Shot herself into the future during the Khaenri'ah crisis, only to find that her land had sunk beneath the waves and she was adrift on the ocean, to be fished out shortly thereafter by the traveller. The huge expenditure of energy cost her most of her maturity and knowledge and after 500 years of absence with no land or people to remember her, well, no one remembers her. Except Venti, but being that he would have been close with the theoretical time archon and probably aware of her plans, he's not spoiling it.
There would be too many quests to rewrite if Paimon betrayed us.
This lol. In this aspect a Paimon betrayal would necessarily constitute a Point-of-No-Return, so if it happens it will be basically at the end of the main story.
@@Reydriel Even if it could possibly occur in the game, the game is still scripted to correspond the appropriate cutscene to the exact timing when it get unlocked inside of the game by the company. Mihiyo also told me privately when exactly they planned to release the cutscene of what I was watching regarding the truth about Kathyyn inside of the game; it was already planned to get released way, way, way later on when they felt that almost everyone had at least heard of the game and felt comfortable watching it as well. I do not remember thankfully when it was going to get exactly released as well.
Miyiho was honestly really open about telling me things based on what I was communicating with them about on the most part with the exception of the honestly very few things that they either could not tell me, or simply did not feel like disclosing to me as well.
I think Paimon is being set up right now as a mysterious and possibly powerful entity for the end game. I think we will learn how powerful she is later and she joins us in our fight as an customizable auxiliary support. Then in the story she will have the opportunity to betray us and fulfill her destiny. We would be pinned by the enemy and she will choose to switch sides so that our lives would be spared. During the final fight Paimon will sacrifice herself to obstruct the enemy from their side in order to give the resistance a fighting chance because we are at a great disadvantage and our deaths seem inevitable.
After we stop her (in reality she is always guiding us into the humans trying to find celestia). I think she will return to being our sword.
If Paimon is Phanes, the Primordial One, her sacrifice (thus a "betrayal" of sorts) will allow the Traveler to Ascend and become the new High God of Teyvat, reinstating the old rule of Celestial and ousting the Sustainer. We already know, by text in the game, that the Traveler is bound to Ascend to the Throne of God.
Plot twist, Paimon is actually the vessel in which the Travelers came to Teyvat (The Spaceship). Her 3rd stomach is actually a bubble universe in which the Travelers reside as they travel across worlds.
However both Paimon and the Traveler lost that memory, yet that bond is so strong they found each other anyways.

Yeah, I always feel sad whenever the "emergency food" running gag appears in-game, it's kinda telling, well, to me at least. Personally what I'm bracing myself for is not a hostile betrayal nor a forced one, but more akin to the traveller having no choice but to drain/consume Paimon's power as it is the only way to counter the ultimate big bad (something similar to MC needing to have "abyss powers" to interact with the abyss portal, etc, maybe Paimon's has something to do with Celestia?), and Paimon knowing about that eventuality without telling the traveller is the only betrayal our sweet sweet floating summer child is capable of. ='(
Oh, and good take on the high food consumption part. I got so used to gods/entities of Knowledge being characteristically gluttonous that it just got way over my head that Paimon might be accumulating power/memory as well. ^_^

Paimon betraying us would be simultaneously extremely on the nose - with all that blatant winking about Paimon being sus and named after Paimon and shit - and extremely undercooked. The twist that requires your character to reveal that their entire personality was a lie is a bad twist. It tells your audience to stop giving shit about anything because behind everything can be a massive "got you" middle finger.
And she's also game's mascot even embedded in the UI.
I mean it kinda make sense if it turns out the twins are a representation of lucifer or other fallen angels. As they also fell from a heaven like place trying to fight a god like entity.
Since we don't know how her flight works: Maybe she needs to eat so much to gain enough energy to keep her in the air the whole time ;) I just wish we could headpat her after her cute reactions to the traveller teasing her or in this moments were she gets scared.

@@ChillwithAster It might just be that she’s not familiar with the mechanisms behind it. Like, she only has a limited understanding of her own anatomy (yet she also thinks she has multiple stomachs? Maybe she’s confusing the metaphor about a stomach for desert?).
That specific cutscene was programmed into the game at that specific point in time before Mihiyo even thought about making the cutscenes that do infact explain everything that she explained as well I believe, I know that much about it. I knew already that this particular conversation would get all of the comments mentioning the detials included inside of them, the moment that I found the actual cutscene where she explains herself as why she talked about what she did in the presence of the character as well. Also definitely the way that the cutscenes were made and designed ARE NOT BEING used in the game by creation order!!! Otherwise the people playing the game would be seeing the actual cutscene involving the dragon tear being used as soon they deemed it was appropriate to at least be activated inside of the game. Based on the cutscene content itself it might shortly after the main character is introduced to the four characters in question being mentioned. It is probably activated by past a certain point of possibly even prior to entering Liyue maybe as well.
It should at least be somewhat accurate considering that the cutscene itself does not even mention anything about Liyue as well. They also preprogrammed inside of the cutscene to specifically mention NOT to watch if you are a new player to the game, to turn away before proceeding with the text as well. I believe that I even saw exactly what Mihiyo wrote about this exact situation already with them already mentioning that even if they have the cretria to trigger the cutscene inside of the game, the cutscene still will not automatically trigger inside the game m; and has to triggered manually by the person playing the game as well. I know that I found the cutscene that was made already by the staff way back then to play during that particular timing as well.
I would assume that then there is domains that were made to be triggered then and there manually triggered during set cutscenes because of the fact that they are well aware that the large majority of the player base might be uncomfortable with actually doing them as well. I know that I somehow did the domain where Zonghli mentions giving the medicine to Xiao, except it explained exactly why Paimon SHOULD NOT BE taking the medicine at all.

Catwithbluehat did a great video on this. There’s also the fact that you can’t pause in domains and coop, the fact that passing time is literally called “waiting,” and the fact that (if Paimon is in the teapot), she doesn’t show up in the pause menu (just in the teapot, I think?).

Paimon won't betray the traveler for a simple reason, she is too tied for gameplay reasons. Hoyoverse wanted a silent protagonist so the players are able to put themselves in their shoes and Paimons acts like the voice of the traveler. She is also important/shown in many quests and it would be literally impossible for hoyoverse to make a story were she betrays the traveler.
However it's still able to create a storyline for a betrayal, it would only be a small one. Like "she wanted to betray them but didn't wanted to do it anymore and the releationsship is stained" or "In a beginning of an important quest she betrays them and in the end of the quest she joins them again" but nothing big.
Miyiho already explained themselves on why the travler never really talks at all in the game, although the cutscenes in Sumeru involving Nahida were made for a very specific reason as to why he /she is actually speaking in those cutscenes. I believe that they said that were going to wait to show Hoyoverse the message directly unless a staff member there finds it first and questions it. Hoyoverse may or may not actually be capable of creating the cutscene involving Paimon's betrayal depending they view it based on their similar but separate policies that differ a slight bit different from Miyiho's.
Miyiho definitely mentioned they were already interested in including the particular quote that was included inside of the video with them clearly explaining what its purpose was to the game along with other quotes that they even already said way back that would eventually get added into the right video concepts talking about it as well. They also knew that everything that already talked about and going to eventually be talking about would catch a lot of attention online, and would immediately want to read all day and not possibly go to work if you have any.
I believe that I fully explained everything that you talked about in separate paragraphs scattered around as I was writing up information about Paimon. I am not fully certain if the content is written in a way that the general public is really to see right now ot not. I think for some reason I could not even write a message better than what Mihiyo already wrote for the same exact reason. It might have just been additional angles to the situation, if I even wrote any of them at all. I believe that Mihiyo mentioned that other people tried as well to write up statements regarding the message, but I still managed to include information that they did not even bring up; or I wrote up the message with correct certainty, something that both Mihiyo and i knew would eventually catch them off guard when and if they were to eventually locate it themselves later on. Either that and/or made a message that correctly made theirs more complete before they even thought to write up sometimes.
Miyiho even wanted anyone to write up messages written like this talking about past content written like this intentionally, since it is phrased in a way that possibly do not remember writing themselves. After all the technology did not even exist yet to save the content in forms that would be acceptable to anyone for adequate viewing pleasure as of then. Email did surprisingly exist as the time, and yet no one I believe actually used it for anything than communication between family members possibly only back then.
The way that the content is actually written is written is such a way that it is more throughly explained in a way that could only get honestly recapped how it is being explained here without resorting back to the original method for more/further clarity on the specific matter at hand as well. The same thing is true for almost any statement written in this type of style as well. Only very, very fde statements did I write them the samw exact way that Mihiyo did as well. If you are unable to actually write that well yourself, then you are unable to actually be a really good presenter as well. Either you already knew how to write well, or you learn because you have to; either way it very clearly shows.
The theory I currently believe in the most is the “Paimon lost her memories from Celestia, and is forced to fight you at the end of the game where she betrays Celestia and gives all her Celestial powers to the traveller so they can fight and defeat Celestia”.
The theory that Paimon intentionally will betray you is farfetched imo, because there’s no evidence that she’s faking her friendship with the traveller at all.
thing that sparked in my mind when you brought up the potential scenario of paimon being forced to forget the connection with the traveler, specifically the version of the emotions being removed; an actual bond [such as love, friendship, whatever] isn't an emotion. if paimon somehow is rendered unable to feel her emotions even from the memories then she'd still be able to remember the bond she had with the traveler, even if it might take a bit to actually connect those factors. normally such a trope would have the person's emotions burst through but one doctor who episode managed it in a way i find fairly well done; the characters were still emotionless but they still loved their precious people and acted on that love. of course if mihoyo does end up doing such a thing it would still probably be really annoying if they didn't perfectly get the delivery across, and it would be best if such a thing ended with paimon somehow recovering the ability to feel what with how integral paimon is to daily gameplay immersion

Venti meantions 3 gods in the manga who gave their bodies, this was meantion when traveler asked about Celestia, as for Paimon she is probably the child of Primal One since the war broke out from the second who came, According to the writer of the game he meantion on Discord that “in order to protect Humanity itself ones child should save the people of this realm but it’s up to the player to find out who that child is” this writer was referring to the end of the game and the only child we know is Paimon....

Being from the Primordial one who cared for those people, I doubt they abandoned the People Willingly.
The Timing of this happening during another conflict, add the fact that the Primordial one can no longer be seen afterwards and the fact the only evidence we have of the Primordial one's "victory" was from the perspective of a Scholar who wasn't able to witness the Conflicts conclusion.
And the fact Genshin is a story that already shows us how events can be remembered differently from what happen for various reasons. ( Havria from Zhongli, Azdhaha, Tsurumi Island and how the people mistook the Thunder bird as their protector that wanted sacrifaces it never asked for)
And I can see the Twist coming that the Shades were defeated or captured leaving only Istaroth to escape due to their power over time allowing them to exist outside of the current reality and Moment itself.
When I said that I meant it from a narrative perspective dictated by the people of Enkanomiya who felt...abandoned. Objectively though, we have nO idea.

I still think she is the sustainer, albeit losing most of her memories and somehow getting shrunk (if venti can turn from a wisp into a human, and zhong from a big dragon into a human, going from adult woman to child size pixie is not impossible), or that she at the very least is a "fraction" of the being. And even if her friendship with the traveler is real now, that does not mean by definition that in the end it will remain that way.
Paimon also knows way more than she remotely lets on, with 90% of her comments and questions being rather dumb whilst on the flip side she can show a very intelligent understanding of things and that contrast is rather suspicious.
And honestly i disagree that it'd be boring for her to "betray" (or more accurately, remembering what/why she has/wants to), just because it is anticipated does not make it boring, i'd like nothing more than the story to go there.
I'm get annoyed by obvious red flags in the story (not with her specifically but all stories and quests overall) just not at all being addressed or recognized. Like why is there a celestial pillar in the chasm, why is there one on dragonspine, they note its existence but it doesn't go any further than "hmm, weird" when those could actually lead to answers.

Like, why not go for something more unique? You have such an interesting world and lore, why go for a trope that's so oversaturated at this point? Why go for the thing almost everyone WOULD expect, some even thinking so since the start? That wouldn't feel like a satisfying twist, even if I believed it.
Unless they somehow manage to give a really unique spin to the trope, I hope it doesn't happen.
If we assume that she's the sustainer, then that means SOMETHING BIG happened in Celestia which caused the Sustainer to shrink herself and lose her memory. Especially since the Sustainer seemed hostile to the Travelers and wanted to Trap them In Teyvat. Maybe something happened with the Sustainer that made her realize the error of trapping the Traveler twins? maybe it's a bigger plot to reunite the twins?
Because there's a REASON that the Travelers weren't downright killed for trespassing. If Paimon is the sustainer, we have NO idea what the next plan is atm, so all we can do now is wait.

Given Raiden cut herself off from Celestia and to my knowledge the other archons don't know what's going on there either, i do expect there's something happening with Celestia. There's got to be a reason the pillars fell down, i'm not sure about the one in Dragonspine but i think the one in the Chasm is responsible for the catalysm there 500 years ago. But as i sad, they haven't really remarked much on it.
It seems to me that the falling of the pillars and thus something happening in Celestia might be the reason the Traveller and the Abyss sibling are released/escape wakes up during the destruction of Khaenriah and might by extension suggest the weakening or change of the sustainer.
But yes, all we can do is wait is regretfully the truth in most games of this genre, and i expect it'll be a long time before actual answers are given to questions like these.

Here's to mentioning my favorite theory again: Paimon is a shade of Istaroth like Venti and shares a love of humanity with the two of them.

My personal thoughts with Paimon are that she has severe amnesia. That she was created by Celestia to keep an eye on the traveler (perhaps to keep them from the abyss order so celestia wouldnt have TWO powerful enemies, ect.) but in her falling from Celestia, the water impact (and possibly some other factors, we have no idea how long she was in th water for example) caused heavy amnesia. Paimon forgot her origins, forgot her mission.
That when she gains those memories back, it will be a genuine battle of nature vs nurture as you said. Paimon remembers her past, but she also knows the truths about Celestia now (afterall she laments on the cruleties of celestia during the chasm quests, how would she feel if she knew she was from there?). And she has to choose between the people who created her, or the traveler and whatever theyre fighting for by that point.
Gonna sound like a broken record, but Honkai did something like this and imo they did very well. It helps that said character was given enough backstory so that you know why they either want to destroy humanity or try to save it.

I think Paimon is going to be killed off. In story structures, there's a part called "The darkest moment" (it goes by lots of other names but basically the worst thing that could happen happens). Paimon has been the only one to stay by us through the whole journey, so her death would be an amazing darkest moment.

I believe that an outcome being "predictable" is not even a bad thing if we are talking about a good writing, in fact if you can predict the outcome of a story it could mean that the narrative has been organic, consistent and with good foreshadowing. The thing here is the execution of said predictable outcome, if indeed is onedimensonal 180 of a personality and it disregards the build up of the characters then it is indeed bad writing, but if the execution is right, even if it would appear to be the most obvious finale, it would still be good objectively speaking.
one of my main theories is that the abyss sibling continued their fight with the SoHP while we were pretty much darted 500 years into the future and in that fight the sustainer got bested or tricked and was reduced to the paimon we see now.
but instead of trying to stop the traveller this time because of their trespassing, i believe paimon (just like her flying and teleporting) is instinctively trying to rehabilitate the traveller and influence them to side with the gods.
this would explain why people arent too jaded when they see paimon cause her kind is a familiar type and paimon isnt necessarily a bad guy because in the end despite their previous encounter she still cares for and wants the best for the traveller and the world
if true, paimon's realization/shift wouldnt be one of true betrayal or true loyalty but instead a struggle that the traveller and paimon would be able to work out together and maybe even open up our only major choice besides which twin we became, to choose between the abyss or the gods.
there's one thing i can never stop thinking abt: why is our abyss twin not shocked or surprised or even suspicious of paimon when we meet them? why is enjou the only abyss creature that "warns" us about her? does our twin know something about paimon that we dont? ahhhh

I remember hearing "Good writing is predictable" somewhere. I think it was a video on FF14's story (either a piece or in its entirety. So, having Paimon "betray" is not bein far-fetched. It reminds me of a character in FF14 as well. (spoilers ahead for Stormblood expansion)

The character that I am referring to is Yotsuyu. A main villain/antagonist in the first part of the Stormblood expansion (4.0) who was mistreated by her aunt and uncle and younger brother. which made her hate Doma (the country she is in) and its people. She would go on to support another enemy nation to fulfill her desire for revenge. However, plot happens and she suffers great memory loss (acts like a child) but was treated with kindness by another soldier of Doma despite knowing she was the cause of all the suffering in Doma. When she did regain her memories, albeit slowly (and in small parts), her behavior changes back to her vicious self but the small act of kindness that one person showed her stuck with her. So much so, she only targets the people responsible for her suffering (her aunt and uncle and brother). However, our character has to stop her because she turned into a Primal (a sort of God). In her final moments, she does not hate our character and only thinks of the kindness that person her.

So, Paimon might remember who she truly is and we may need to fight her to stop her.
Predictability isn't inherently bad, BUT the twist villain motif is a really difficult thing to execute especially with a character so beloved. It has the same vibes as Hans from Frozen, which is why if they want to do this, my best suggestion is to create a nuance to Paimon's regaining of power. Genshin's writing is so perplex that I really hope they won't stoop so to a standard "Paimon is the true evil villain all alon and she'll kill the traveler and this is all a masterplan" without creating the needed nuance. Everything in Genshin has depth, from antagonist writing (childe, signora, scaramouche) to protagonist writing (venti, zhongli, ei). To simply say that Paimon will betray is doing Genshin's writing such a disservice because betray is too strong of a word. A lot of people think that paimon will turn a 180 terminator style, and if that were to happen, that would be such a quick character assassination that it's so uncalled for. Paimon herself is going through an emotional arc and to suddenly turn into an evil god to betray the Traveler would take away at least 7-8 years (assuming this happens in Khaenriah) of careful relationship building between the Traveler and Paimon.
I love the notion of Paimon being the most loyal to Lucifer because, in an incredble coincidence, the name i gave my MC Ether, was Samael...almost 2 years ago.
my theory is Paimon's unknowingly being used by either Celestia(or another hidden faction) to keep an eye on the traveler and the reveal will make the traveler finally question her loyalty but I don't think she'll betray us at the end and perhaps even sacrifice herself for us if need be. there are theories about her possibly being either the or related to the god of time and if that turns out to be true, I think there will be a new mechanic introduced in the future where paimon awakens and finally becomes helpful in fights where she can now assist traveler in combat by using her time-related abilities like let's say "time fracture" surrounding enemies just like in honkai impact similar to the ELF system.

While I personally love Paimon and enjoy having her around, I'm also certain she's probably going to betray us at some point one way or another. While I don't believe Paimon will ever be malicious towards us due to our bond together, I also believe that there is a LOT of room for Paimon to have something revealed about her that could completely change how we see her.
Let's be real here Paimon HAS TO be something special because if she wasn't I don't see why they would withhold information about her for so long.
I trust Paimon enough that I'd be friends with her but I still doubt her because there is a lot I don't know about her. Not to mention I've always found Paimon's knowledge to be inconsistent at times, she knows a lot which would imply she's either been to a lot of places or she's done a lot of research like read books and stuff (though knowing her I kinda doubt this one a little). There are other times when Paimon seem completely clueless to certain things. I don't exactly fault her for not knowing EVERYTHING but because of my lack of understanding of Paimon's life before the Traveler, I have no idea how she came to know even half of what she does.
I don't personally believe Paimon will betray us out of malice but rather an outside influence makes her do it such as being ordered to by some being she's loyal to or possibly an outside power forces her to against her will.
i think a cool plot point that keeps the theory that Paimon is the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles is having her revealed as such at some point but after having traveled alongside us and seeing that humanity is not as bad/arrogant as she once thought, she comes to regret what she's done in the past and continues to aid us in our journey. It would be very in line with Paimon's current personality and the misdirect of who the true villain of the story is would be interesting
This could be what that line about betrayal was referring to from the enkanomiya quest. that paimon is not who we think she is but if this is the case, i think their friendship will win in the end
Wasn't Albedo's theory that she was essentially a real advanced organ of traveler's? Literally maybe not, but like metaphorically can she be the reason they currently have powers? Paimon eats so much more than she'd probably reasonably need just for her levitation and stuff maybe that energy goes to Traveler?
Also I think a solid thing against a Paimon betrayal is just logistically it'd be a nightmare. Paimon is pretty engrained in the UI and dialogue and removing her eventually through betrayal would mean she'd have to suddenly disappear in every other aspect which seems highly unreasonable to me
Yeah, Albedo had the idea, but he quickly shut it down after Traveler said they fished her out of the water. So albedo was like "eh, ya ok nvm", though I personally think that he was onto something
I was thinking that this might be an Elfilin and test subject IBF-86 (in Kirby and the forgotten land) as in the sustainer and paimon are the same person but as of right now they are separated
I believe that paimon is the true manifestation of the travaler lost power and the true form of his/her weapon all ways with the travaler waiting to be awakened

im starting to think paimon is... or at least part of the primordial one... the "True God" Hence her crown is on the game's very title
I think it would be interesting if she turned out to just be a member of some unknown or rare species that live secluded on some corner of Teyvat. I can't really point to any definitive in-game proof for this; I mostly came up with this idea on the spot because it reminds me of a similar plot point in Okami.
Paimon's clothing and fashion could be reminiscent of Celestia due to her species' past ties, explaining why she's just as clueless about it as we are. She also seems really evasive about where she comes from and what she is, which may suggest she left her home for less than pleasant reasons. While this could've been due to exile, it could also just be due to wanderlust - the latter could be why, as our self-styled 'guide', she knows bits and pieces and trivia about the other nations but not any specifics.
Also yeah I don't want her to be evil either :( no matter how high her voice can get sometimes she's too fluffy and adorable, I just can't stay mad at her. She's also been genuinely concerned about the Traveller's physical and mental well-being since I believe the start of the game, so no I don't think she'd ever betray us (at least not willingly)
I've long have thought in my head that Paimon is a shade or even the first who came themselves just for the sole reason of Genshin having the meaning of primordial god.
Due to what was said at the beginning of the traveler's info, it seems like paimons purpose is to guide the sustainers replacement.

What if Hoyoverse does a pro-gamer move and makes Paimon the personification of the true power of Lumine's/Aether's sword/s. There must be a reason why the Traveler never ditches that Dull Blade even after we were given a much better sword by the Adventurers Guild.

I kind of a wild idea. What if Paimon is a artificial human of sorts created by one of the alchemists of the destroyed nations (might be Khaenri'ah). I did not have enough material back this up to become a theory...but it's something that crossed my mind.
The only time Paimon felt threaten as a companion is when The Traveler get the Ninja Dog 'Kageroumaru'

Odd gaming observation. While the Traveler isn't a silent protagonist, Paimon does do the lion's share of talking during story quests. On the flipside, during comissions, Paimon is mostly silent. From a game design standpoint, this could possibly be futureproofing for a period that we may not have Paimon with us (How we will still have access to the pause menu unknown.)
I'm certain there are other exeptions to this, but the only one that comes to mind offhand is "Tales of Winter" where we talk to the Fatus in the Church and he suggests us joining the Fatui, and we can ask him one question about the group. Assuming that the major Paimon event is likely to occur after the Shneznaya section, this quest would likely change by then anyways, seeing as by then our relationship with the organization will already be different.
Of course, there are probably others that shoot this theory in the foot, but I can't remember them.

Traveller found Paimon while fishing... So she might be from dark sea...
And Seelie used to guide mankind...
Paimon looks like seelie and floats like one and have cape like one... And she guides traveller...
Gods who lost in Archon war went to dark sea... Maybe she is agent from there... Maybe Primordial one and three other shades are there... Maybe Lucifer, whom she is loyal to, is there...
Or she is 'as you said' similar to Paimon from "order of dominion" whose purpose is to oversea the judgement against sinners and help the world stay in proper order... (Like sustainer of heavenly principles?)
So she is equal in rank to sustainer of heavenly principles, but now a fallen angel and supporting traveller (Lucifer)...
Maybe she left celestia due to cataclysm (she might not agree with the heavenly principles anymore)
Or just the agent sent by celestia to manipulate and betray traveller...
Or just emergency food and any other wild theories out there....

A. A discarded God by Celestia as a punishment maybe
B. She was sent by Celestia to spy on the other twin after one of them joined the abyss
