Traveler being called 'Teyvat's Witness' makes me think that in Fontaine we'll be part of a trial as literally Teyvat's Witness. Imagine how crazy that would be.

Yeah, the archons likely knew what can happen when irminsul is altered or changed. Like how Rex lapis said that he needs to find a better way to engrave the truth of the history, as unchanging stones such as himself can be eroded by time or through the changes of Irminsul as he implied in his story quest and his voice overs about Buer

You all remember the quest with the abyss mage and Lisa? And remember how nahida made the fairy tale about scara so she could somewhat remember him? What if every (or at least some) book we can find in the game is something like nahida's fairytale? Maybe istaroth (and ruketavata) hid data/information about deleted stuff in some of them and that's why the abyss order wanted to get the book from Lisa. And since they tried to make a god/mech in the first deinsleif quest maybe they could somehow feed it that info so its attacks would corrupt everything that it touches. Or alternatively they would be trying to feed that info to the abyss sibling since it seems they are somewhat disconnected from irmansul. What the abyss sibling could do with those restored memories/information I don't know but it's a fun theory

What do we know about visions? Visions are conduits of elemental energy, not batteries. They allow wielders to channel the attuned elemental energy at their discretion, this also gives them some resistence to that elemental type, though vision wielders can still apparently get elemental poisoning. Visions are tools from Celestia of some kind. Visions have an alter, the human-made Delusion which instead saps life force to _create_ elemental energy, this is apparently similar to the way Abyssal power works. Visions _can_ be passed on to other humans under special circumstances (we have heard about visions being heirlooms) I think the Primordial One created Visions and the system that bequeaths them upon humans, both as a tool for humans to use and as a tool for the Primordial One to watch his favourite creations go about their lives and experience life. Too many positives for the wielders of visions for the visions to be purely a spying tool for Celestia. Remember that the Primordial One is the true first Descender, he came from another place and unified the Abyss and Vishap realms by creating the human realm between them, then populated the world with humanity, his most favourite creations. Apparently envoys would come and go from Teyvat to meet with growing nations and to pass on _things_ to them from above... but we also know a second descended, Celestia "The island in the sky" was described as invading Teyvat, it replaced the Primordial One and is now using the systems he created to instead control, manipulate, watch and farm humans. The only resource in Teyvat that Celestia cannot get from the Abyss or the Vishap Realm if it were to invade those is humans, because humans are exclusive to Teyvat in this world and they exclusively can interact with elemental energy AND abyssal energy without immediately dying.
Yea that's what I think as well, as well as Liyue and Sumeru's story tellers, the battle pass cutscene is also something like this. Hoyoverse always held fiction to a high regard, back in Honkai there's an entire arc, Elysian Realm, which argued that fiction, even though it's just a story, every emotion and lesson you learnt is real. Everything you felt will carry through your memories and be manifested in your world and thus the story being fiction will become real through your life.
A quick thought on erosion: In 3.2 (spoilers) Nahida mentioned that after losing her memories of Rukkhadevata she could still feel that she had lost something, like something was first written on paper and erased, leaving only "a dent" that you can't quite read. Maybe the accumulation of several "dents", AKA repeated manipulation of Irminsul's records (and therefore memories of the Archons) over the span several millenia is what Zhongli means when he speaks of erosion?
Honestly zhongli subtly giving us crumbs to future events when looking at his dialogue during liyue's archon quests and his character quests makes me love the man.

You made me think. Does Venti actually make up tales/fictions? Or is this possible something like what Nahida did with Scaramouche's memories - hide them as allegory so they are unchanged when the history of the world changes. Is this the source of why he is so suspicious? Does he "know" things without actually knowing them? This could explain why Venti rarely explains his knowledge.
Glad your feeling better Aster, you were sorely missed. My take: The Traveler is more a Survivor imo. In similar fashion to the Titanic. (Pun intended) As the only being capable, that we've witnessed -haha- , of purification; it often feels like the Traveler is the only one with the proper tools, skill-set, to mend Tehvat. It's like being a new hire at a job doing the walk through of the various departments only to see the employees and management barely existing amongst a heap of problems, both a lack of tools/supplies and guidance from upper management. No wonder the Traveler just wants to find his sister and get out. Of course rumor is she's working in the basement planting plastic explosives and leading a terrorist revolt like some dystopian anti-hero. Just my humorous thoughts.
That is suprisingly accurate presentation of state of Teyvat, let's add Sneznaha being HR trying to seize control of every single department through blackmail and firing everyone wishing to stop them, only to be erased by CEO (Celestia) in a flash
So according to the records via Irminsul, the abyss sibling completed their training aka previously visited each department before getting hired. Which is why Irminsul has her work history on file. There's apparently some information that's either been corrupted, redacted or lost during the- *Information redacted due to Non-disclosure agreement* This has been red-flagged and is currently under investigation by Nahida in HR. It might be worth speculating however that after the, now referred to as, Abyss Sibling received their job placement (Fate) they were already burnt out from the internship. To think that it would be 500 years of hard labor before being reunited with their twin. Some experiences just can't be conveyed with words....
Great break down of the concept. The biggest question that remains for me surrounding the term "Witness" in Genshin is why Venti's trailer calls him a Witness to the Divine. I'm wondering what that actually means, and what role Venti may play that we're yet privy to.
I think that has to do with Venti being a Bard and taking effort to record history thru creative means like a song + Venti being the first God we run into and often run into again. If you adapt the theory that the traveler is a god before their ascension, Venti is witnessing our story as well aka the divine.
In another thread people were talking about how visions could be celestia's eyes trying to observe humans, and what if archons are also used as eyes for celestia since Venti was called a witness to the divine? This makes me think that Celestia uses many mediums to observe the world of Teyvat and humans: through its archons, through visions, and even through the traveler, who is also referred to as a witness. (the words witness and vision now seem to play the same roles here)

I wonder if it's just an interesting coincidence that the Traveler's twin has in a way been sacrificed to the Abyss and now they're waiting for the Traveler to learn everything. It's like the Abyss Sibling is Odin's eye sacrificed to the well as he hung from the world tree, and he gains wisdom with his remaining eye. Maybe the Khaenrian's eye covering is symbolic of the Abyss sibling being the covered or missing eye. In any case, there are two Travelers and one is a witness and the other is metaphorically under an eyepatch.
What if by the means of the twin telling us we have alot of time and like we have to go through teyvat first, It means that we will slowly discover the forgotten happenings on teyvat. They need the traveller Simply because he is unbound by the very rules of the world that bind them. If they want change, he is literally the only one who can do it.

That would be a reason why Nahida gave them all that combat knowledge about MechaScara. Because she secretly *expects* the traveler to join the archons against Celestia, using their otherworldly power; and knowing how to defeat a lesser god (MechaScara) puts them one step closer to defeating a greater god (The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles). Ofc, if the traveler ends up doing that, some data on those celestial cubes would be nice, because being touched by one spells imprisonment and power sealing…
I think in Fontaine celestia may make an appearance since fontaine is a technological advanced just like khaenriah also celestia is directly under fontaine and the hydro archon fears the divine according to what liben said fontaine has dark clouds and a storm is about to break out and people are saying judgement is coming. Could that be celestia’s judgement or the hydro archon’s judgement?. Anyways I’m pretty sure by the time fontaine is here we will probably get a huge lore bomb but this time it will be about celestia/heavenly principles

Khaenriah was a city that thrived with technological advancement and wanted to overthrow the gods, that's mostly what the Field Tillers (Ruin Guards) were for, to wage war so they got nuked. The same happened with Sal Vindagyr. The hints are already there, no advanced civilization = no threat to the divine. And it's already confirmed the Cataclysm happened because of Celestia, the Archons were literally sent there.
@@no.1fan156 No, It was implied in the 3.1 Archon quest that the seven were summoned to Khaenri'ah AFTER the cataclysm, After the sky changed color(The traveler even says:"I knew it... the Khaenri'ah cataclysm." even before any mentions of the seven being summoned to Khaenri'ah and right after the "sky changed color" line) which implies that it happened before the archons or celestia were even involved, For all we know Khaenri'ah might've caused the cataclysm and the seven were sent to destroy it so it didn't spread to the rest of Teyvat.
i think it's very sweet that all of the archons we've seen so far see us as another way to preserve them forever. because traveler has been around so long and they're implied to be immortal, traveler will always carry memories with them. and no matter how wary they were of us at the beginning, they realize that traveler is someone they can rely on to be around them for nearly forever. and not only for them, but the twins are able to preserve all of teyvat. and unlike the irminsul, the traveler's memories can't be tainted, changed, or forgotten. the twins may not have started this journey to preserve teyvat nor deeply care about this world, but as their journeys go on, they can't help but care about teyvat. it's kinda bittersweet because there will be a day where teyvat won't exist, but traveler will continue to carry everything that teyvat was. to acknowledge the duty of being the witness means accepting that this will all be gone one day.

after playing through the scara interlude quest and how nahida stored his memories in a story can be big things to breakdown book lore. also the battle pass cutscene is now pretty much confirmed to be lore accurate. maybe the traveller was only woken up after our sibling failed to retrieve whatever the treasure is told in the cutscene and our fate actually leads upto that treasure pearl or whatever is that
Finally someone gets it. The actual name of the battle bass cutscene is gnostic chorus ofc gnostic coming from Gnosticism and chorus is defined to “a group of people responsible for summarizing events, usually in a play” meaning that the gnostic chorus is a allegory about the traveler
What Celestia is hiding is the use of a fake sky to force the people of Teyvat to have an already written Fate instead of letting them free to pursue their destiny. And those who's actions break through that fake sky ends up having a Vision, that way Celestia ties them into a made up constellation to make them submit. This is the knowledge that Dottore gave to Nahida according to my theory.
If every event in Teyvat is part of a play, then the Traveler is a Spectator. They can go on the stage, or interact with the actors, but they are and will always be outside the scope of the play.
On the topic of records and recording things, this reminds me of something called “The Golden Record” a, well, record, that has sounds of the earth, music, and greetings in 55 different languages. It was launched into space, as a sort of Time Capsule, in hopes that any other spacefarers may one day come across it. Preserving earths legacy, and telling our story to extraterrestrials people. What I’m trying to get at is that’s it’s very similar to what the traveler is for Teyvat. With Aether bring called “Golden” on multiple occasions. example: Golden Nara, Golden Comet, or just “blonde” if you want to count that. Aether is practically a loving golden record of Teyvat, and possibly many other worlds and planets that have made him a witness as well.
Knowing that Rukkhadevata can't leave her responsibility in guarding Irminsul even if a great war has occured tells us that the gravity of maintaining the records in Irminsul is important.
I like how current Inazuma event ties into Inazuma's big story ark, but overall acts as a mini version of it, with the only difference being the scale of things and the ending

I cannot help but find a meta implication with the Travller (I.e. us) as witness of Teyvat. Just as the Traveller could visit other worlds, so can we go to other worlds by just going other media or even the real world. Also, we can remember what the original stories are even after retcons and reboots in the same way the Traveller can remember Rhukkhaevatah and Scaramouche. Finally, we will remember Teyvat, its stories and characters after Hoyoverse will inevitably shut down the game, as will the Traveller once they leave the world for good. I always love these types of stories (if written properly of course), and this is one the most interesting takes I have seen.

Maybe not just the Traveler but all decendants act as history records to an entent. Something terrible is likely to happen to Teyvat to emphasize the Traveler's role as a "witness".
I have a theory that the unknown god isn’t an evil entity. There’s a lot of evidence that something extremely dark is happening behind the scenes, and only someone from beyond Teyvat can save it. Basically, my theory is the unknown god stopped the twins on purpose for a greater good. Perhaps she went rogue against Celestia? I’m not entirely sure, but I do know that the traveler being separated from their sibling, and their sibling choosing to lead the abyss is purposeful.
In Honkai we currently have new knowledge on the equivalent of the Unknown God, to keep it as brief and minimise spoilers: She is a servant of a higher power who is "dreaming" this world, her job is to cycle the world over and over again until the "dream" is the right one. Honkai and Genshin are now overlapping in their story and themes so much that they are almost telling the same story at certain points. We don't know whether the Unknown God is doing the same, but if she's the Goddess of Time or Fate, she might be doing something similar, cycling fate until someone breaks destiny.

This whole witness thing and the "Forbidden knowledge" is really interesting. I myself am not a big lore geek but it reminds me of how some fantasy worlds are built. Especially the part where forbidden knowledge bring upon natural disasters. There a type of world in fantasy where its rules are dictated by the collective belief of how the world should work. If you can convince enough people you can fly, you can fly. While its likely not how teyvat functions it is an interesting thought experiment or "what if". If we assume this is how teyvat works then the fact that forbidden knowledge can cause natural disasters is just teyvats own "laws" reacting to the "truth" on how the world truly works. Honestly i want to see a proper story that uses this concept to its fullest someday, ive been obsessed by it for a while
Just noticing that the portal the Lecturn and Abyss Sib use during the story quest when you run into them has a symbol very similar to the symbol for Phyrexia. That could be really interesting
Oh there is definitely a conversation worth having comparing Khaenriah and it's forbidden knowledge to Phrexia and its devotion to phyresis. The black mud could be glistening oil corrupting the very mana/elements and memories of the land. Also worth mentioning: Phyrexias original ruler, before Yawgmoth, was supposedly a dragon planeswalker long since deceased. I thought it interesting that the 7 dragon sovereigns originally ruled Tehvat. Eerie similarities.
I think tha Venti's songs are additionally noteworthy because as we know from the Hekzencircle by wrapping knowlegde in allegory and metaphor it can avoid Irmunsole tampering. It might be his way of backing up information.
Damn, this captured perfectly one of my biggest fears that one day when humanity comes to an end, there won't be anything left to remind future civilizations about our legacy. Everything will just simply disappear as time goes by. Heck, even this amazing game and many others will be forgotten eventually. That's just sad
If you think about it, this game is basically the earth crumbling down in the hands of people who think they are superior. The archons are the people who defend themselves against the said superiors. The traveller is one being guided in that rebellion, though it will take time for the superiors to back down. That's why the game will probably only finish its lore 6 years after its release.

Apart from obviously being the main character, why would the archons specifically need TRAVELLER as a witness? When there are like 3 more descenders other than the traveller 🤣. Also It was mentioned in the interlude that Pierro was a khaenriahn MAGE and knows the Abyss Sibling. And also from Wanderers voiceline it mentioned that Pierro frequently sends him to the ABYSS to investigate something I Wonder why? Is it because Pierro was looking for the Abyss sibling in the depths of Abyss or something? Another thing to note is thag PIERRO tasked SCARAMOUCHE the 6th harbinger to go to frequent trips to the Abyss, not the 3rd or 4th or any higher ranking harbinger. This might imply that Scara has a special edge which what makes him the top choice in this Abyss exploration (might be his insane durability, being a puppet or somethin). Scara also went back alive with those frequent trips which speaks volume on how durable or strong he is.
As far as I can theorize The first Descender is Celestia (I'll expand on this in another vid, but Heavenly Principles) The second has perished as far as we know So that leaves at least two ~
@@ChillwithAster Arethere more than 4 descenders? I felt like Nahida really didn't expound on this. She merely stated that they are descenders in Teyvat and the traveller is 4th of them. She didn't specifically say that there were only 4 descenders, we just assumed that. So maybe there's likely a 5th, 6th or more descenders other than Celestia (1st) , 2nd, 3rd and us (4th)

The other descenders were higher entities that came even before the Archon war, refer to some lore found in Enkanomiya and stuff about the Primordial One. There are also books that talk about some old gods and even angels but I never bothered to remember their name. They're not mentioned directly but they're all there if you look.
I’m not certain if they need the traveler to be a witness, or if the traveler is just conveniently there. Also, the archons don’t seem to fully trust the traveler, given how at least 2 of the ones we met weave deceptive words and establish lies as truths to conceal their intentions to help the Fatui (Venti saying he’s the weakest archon to prepare to not use all his power vs. Signora, Nahida saying she can’t fight in order to distract from her high spellcasting abilities and act powerless vs. Dottore, etc.) I’m going with a theory that says the original traveler (that we think we’re playing as) was killed by the Heavenly Principles, and their soul was placed in a divine puppet/golem. This puppet has the same emotions and thoughts as the original traveler, but also an instinct to observe Teyvat, maintain the world’s order, and kill anyone who intends to destroy the current order, whether it’s the abyssal forces or Fatui. And because the archons are working with the Fatui, who we are working against, they want to repurpose us to help the Fatui, and don’t want us to succeed in protecting a single gnosis. That’s why 3 out of 4 times, we’ve been ambushed/trapped, before the gnosis was stolen or handed over. Because in Zhongli’s case, we wouldn’t win a fight, but the other 3 times, we would’ve if there was no trap

I wanna mention i think it's interesting that the gods that are thematically oposing (freedom and contracts, wisdom in dreams and ambition and eternity in static and a stop in progress) have similar views on erosion and time, or legacy and history It shows that while they believe in very different things they're not all that different, both venti and eventually zhongli think the humans can rule themselves with the occasional helping hand, and both nahida and ei believe they need guidance or a leader, but they changed how their nations were ruled a bit by the end of their story quest Their nations also have similarities, zhongli and ventis home nations are both incredibly reflective of the gods themselves, and fairly consistent throughout, yes there's areas that are different like stormterrors lair and the chasm but fairly consistent otherwise, but both inazuma and sumeru have large areas that are equal to or larger than the area that feels reprentitive of their nations, the desert in sumeru's case, and only one island feels like the one ei rules, and both of these places have had gods ruling their nation or areas of their nation for just as long or longer than them themselves, and both have residents that follow completely different gods even if they arent alive, in liyue this is slightly true but its a bit different because you can tell liyue as a nation is united and thriving, even if there are a few people that push away the idea of following morax and follow the perceived ideals of dead gods like the god of salt, but most people in liyue love morax and the adepti, most people in mondstat love venti, in sumeru only some people love nahida, even though she's great, for different reasons, like following the scarlet king or being of the old akademia and while the shogun has her followers, she had an entire resistance and there are entire islands that barely think of her in anyway other than she is a force in the world, one that they might or might not oppose, watatsumi being an example of a whole shrine to a different diety, one that ei killed idk just thought all this was interesting
From what I understand after playing the game until Sumeru (This is my speculation and theory) I think the travellers sibling made a deal with Celestia in order to protect the traveller, he/she was sent by Celestia to erase any remaining knowledge of Kanreah from the entire Tevyat, that's why it seems that only the archons know about Kanreah, and erase any other history regarding Celestia destroying any other civilization, that is why no one knows the true history of enkanomiya,(if you did the story quest in enkanomiya you remember an abyss mage searching for a book containing the history of Enkanomiya), in the process of the siblings travels he stumbles upon some unkown truth and betrays Celestia.(Because in the battlepass we are told that the first sibling becomes corrupted and another is sent, which might refer to the traveller) which might imply after Celestia knowing about the betrayal the traveller awakens but most of their power's sealed as a safety measure, meaning traveller might not a witness most likely freed/awakened by Celestia to see that if the memory/information of Kanreah or any other piece of information regarding Celestia bringing down any civilization that resisted them
The traveler is the only one able to do what he wants and not trigger Celestia's wrath. Nahida mentioned that she could awake The heavenly principles by destroying a Gnosis, so basically any drastic actions the Archons make will be alerted to Celestia and will be corrected or erased. Traveler can change story and do drastic changes and Celestia won't know or be alerted, keeping them sleeping for now.
12:15 wait a minute..... Since Nahida was able to retain original memories via backdoors and allegories despite Irminsul reset.... Does that mean all of Venti's songs are allegories as well? His way of hiding his original memories from the Irminsul resets? It would make sense since his first dialogue hinted that he had met us before.... Maybe Istaroth gave him a few tips before her dissapearance
I remember when I first played GI that the lore was "Very obvious" and not at all hard to understand. But now I'm second guessing every special event, every lore entry. The ascension materials for certain characters and even clothing. I remember meeting Danse for the first time and thinking his clothes looked... similar to the traveler. As well as Keaya's. With star patterns incorporated into the design. Only to discover their secret connections to Kahneria. Things are very well thought out, nothing seems to be an accident. (For example I keep seeing themes of "Time" "Immortality vs Mortality" "Outliving others" in story quests and special events) I remember when we first meet Kazuka, that the Traveler explicitly says don't want a vision. (Perhaps they see no need) However When first coming to Teyvat they were confused on what a vision was and often ask others to explain what a Vision is and what another Character sees it as. What I don't remember is wether or not the Traveler has slight amnesia. I haven't finished the entirety of the Dendro Archon quest so I haven't gotten that far yet. But as a Descender, why do they not know these important bits of information of other worlds Celestia overrules? "Other worlds" The Traveler has seen others worlds, but Visions seem to only be in Teyvat? I'm missing something here.
I believe that visions are unique to the world of Teyvat, as it turns out, it is the celestial gods who offer visions to Teyvat's mortals. What makes me believe this is for the company's other games, it seems, all games are connected in some way, the best way to describe it is the Welt of Honkai Star Rail is the same as Welt from Honkai Impact 3rd (even if they are different games from the same company), and none of these games have what are known as visions, it's not something the humans in the other games need to be strong, as with their own technologies, they technically don't even need vision. To me, it makes a lot of sense that the traveler has no knowledge of vision precisely because it is the first time he has visited Teyvat and be unique in this world
With the card game being added to the game everything makes sense. The "Omni Element" dice is the creator. All the other 7 elements are light frequencies which when combined creates "pure light". We all know the travelers are children of the creator not only of Teyvat, but everything that exists and that the people who rule over celestia are NOT the true gods. The archons are working together with the Tsaritsa to dethrone whoever rules over celestia, that is why they have been giving away their gnosis. They have figured out they are being used as pawns to sustain Teyvat's biggest fraud: The 7 elements are a lie, there is only "pure light". Celestia has managed to weaken the true creator and split its light in 7 weaker frequencies. The Archons are broken shadows of the same being.
I think that not even Fate can influence the traveler. I just remember the trailer for genshin impact where Dainsleif was narrating that at the end of journey it was the Traveler themselves who would weave fate as they see fit. Rereading the Travelers Character details: "The keeper is fading away; the creator has not yet come. But the world shall burn no more, for you shall ascend."
Im not a smart person when it comes to theories or lores as I don't read or intricately understand the dialogues and written lores inside the game, im taking reference of the basic knowledge in genshin lorewise and theories i get from numerous social media platforms. I just simply theorized that what if, the reason why irminsul hasn't recorded the traveler as a descender, because somehow even the traveler was affected by teyvats erosion for god knows why after staying and living in teyvat for 500+ years. There is still no concrete evidence or basis to my theories as i probably still need to research more about irminsul and erosion, but i think its quite a fun theory. (Plus different things affect the traveler and the people around the traveler like paimon and nahida. Example: traveler is immune to erosion and the effects of irminsul plus being able to handle all the elements without a vision Paimon just basically breaking the normal physics of the world by being able to appear and disappear out of thin air, and flying but no one ever in teyvat ever questions her being Nahida or the gods as in the archon quest where dottore knocks traveler and paimon but not nahida because she is a god. "Teyvat has its own laws" So it isn't impossible that travelers sibling is also differently affected by specific things in teyvat)
Ironically speaking, both Raiden and Morax could learn a thing or two from Sigmar from Warhammer Fantasy. 1) Unlike Raiden, who essentially became Inazuma problem because of her issues, Sigmar left the moment he realized he was becoming more of a hinderance to the Empire and give power to someone that would not have excessive power. 2) Unlike Morax, he didn’t fully abandon the Empire, and still played a role as its god. Not only that, he told his people what was going on, and even laid out a plan as how the Empire would be ruled, giving birth to the Elector Counts, as opposed to Morax who just simply fucking faked his death and left the people of Liyue figure out what to do next.
Genshin Impact to me feels like a combined story of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Star Treks TNG's The Inner Light. "If you remember what we were, and how we lived, then we'll have found life again." Maybe not entirely but to a certain degree, mostly because of the both Traveler's role. The sibling allied with the abyss traveled the world and much of their adventure is lost to time as well. They've become a record of days long since passed and we're becoming a record of the present.

You all remember the quest with the abyss mage and Lisa? And remember how nahida made the fairy tale about scara so she could somewhat remember him? What if every (or at least some) book we can find in the game is something like nahida's fairytale? Maybe istaroth (and ruketavata) hid data/information about deleted stuff in some of them and that's why the abyss order wanted to get the book from Lisa. And since they tried to make a god/mech in the first deinsleif quest maybe they could somehow feed it that info so its attacks would corrupt everything that it touches. Or alternatively they would be trying to feed that info to the abyss sibling since it seems they are somewhat disconnected from irmansul. What the abyss sibling could do with those restored memories/information I don't know but it's a fun theory

What do we know about visions?
Visions are conduits of elemental energy, not batteries. They allow wielders to channel the attuned elemental energy at their discretion, this also gives them some resistence to that elemental type, though vision wielders can still apparently get elemental poisoning.
Visions are tools from Celestia of some kind.
Visions have an alter, the human-made Delusion which instead saps life force to _create_ elemental energy, this is apparently similar to the way Abyssal power works.
Visions _can_ be passed on to other humans under special circumstances (we have heard about visions being heirlooms)
I think the Primordial One created Visions and the system that bequeaths them upon humans, both as a tool for humans to use and as a tool for the Primordial One to watch his favourite creations go about their lives and experience life. Too many positives for the wielders of visions for the visions to be purely a spying tool for Celestia.
Remember that the Primordial One is the true first Descender, he came from another place and unified the Abyss and Vishap realms by creating the human realm between them, then populated the world with humanity, his most favourite creations.
Apparently envoys would come and go from Teyvat to meet with growing nations and to pass on _things_ to them from above... but we also know a second descended, Celestia "The island in the sky" was described as invading Teyvat, it replaced the Primordial One and is now using the systems he created to instead control, manipulate, watch and farm humans. The only resource in Teyvat that Celestia cannot get from the Abyss or the Vishap Realm if it were to invade those is humans, because humans are exclusive to Teyvat in this world and they exclusively can interact with elemental energy AND abyssal energy without immediately dying.

Yea that's what I think as well, as well as Liyue and Sumeru's story tellers, the battle pass cutscene is also something like this.
Hoyoverse always held fiction to a high regard, back in Honkai there's an entire arc, Elysian Realm, which argued that fiction, even though it's just a story, every emotion and lesson you learnt is real. Everything you felt will carry through your memories and be manifested in your world and thus the story being fiction will become real through your life.
A quick thought on erosion: In 3.2 (spoilers) Nahida mentioned that after losing her memories of Rukkhadevata she could still feel that she had lost something, like something was first written on paper and erased, leaving only "a dent" that you can't quite read. Maybe the accumulation of several "dents", AKA repeated manipulation of Irminsul's records (and therefore memories of the Archons) over the span several millenia is what Zhongli means when he speaks of erosion?

You made me think. Does Venti actually make up tales/fictions? Or is this possible something like what Nahida did with Scaramouche's memories - hide them as allegory so they are unchanged when the history of the world changes. Is this the source of why he is so suspicious? Does he "know" things without actually knowing them? This could explain why Venti rarely explains his knowledge.

As the only being capable, that we've witnessed -haha- , of purification; it often feels like the Traveler is the only one with the proper tools, skill-set, to mend Tehvat. It's like being a new hire at a job doing the walk through of the various departments only to see the employees and management barely existing amongst a heap of problems, both a lack of tools/supplies and guidance from upper management.
No wonder the Traveler just wants to find his sister and get out. Of course rumor is she's working in the basement planting plastic explosives and leading a terrorist revolt like some dystopian anti-hero.

Great break down of the concept. The biggest question that remains for me surrounding the term "Witness" in Genshin is why Venti's trailer calls him a Witness to the Divine. I'm wondering what that actually means, and what role Venti may play that we're yet privy to.
I think that has to do with Venti being a Bard and taking effort to record history thru creative means like a song + Venti being the first God we run into and often run into again. If you adapt the theory that the traveler is a god before their ascension, Venti is witnessing our story as well aka the divine.
In another thread people were talking about how visions could be celestia's eyes trying to observe humans, and what if archons are also used as eyes for celestia since Venti was called a witness to the divine? This makes me think that Celestia uses many mediums to observe the world of Teyvat and humans: through its archons, through visions, and even through the traveler, who is also referred to as a witness. (the words witness and vision now seem to play the same roles here)

I wonder if it's just an interesting coincidence that the Traveler's twin has in a way been sacrificed to the Abyss and now they're waiting for the Traveler to learn everything. It's like the Abyss Sibling is Odin's eye sacrificed to the well as he hung from the world tree, and he gains wisdom with his remaining eye.
Maybe the Khaenrian's eye covering is symbolic of the Abyss sibling being the covered or missing eye.
In any case, there are two Travelers and one is a witness and the other is metaphorically under an eyepatch.

What if by the means of the twin telling us we have alot of time and like we have to go through teyvat first, It means that we will slowly discover the forgotten happenings on teyvat. That would be a reason why Nahida gave them all that combat knowledge about MechaScara. Because she secretly *expects* the traveler to join the archons against Celestia, using their otherworldly power; and knowing how to defeat a lesser god (MechaScara) puts them one step closer to defeating a greater god (The Sustainer of Heavenly Principles). Ofc, if the traveler ends up doing that, some data on those celestial cubes would be nice, because being touched by one spells imprisonment and power sealing…
I think in Fontaine celestia may make an appearance since fontaine is a technological advanced just like khaenriah also celestia is directly under fontaine and the hydro archon fears the divine according to what liben said fontaine has dark clouds and a storm is about to break out and people are saying judgement is coming. Could that be celestia’s judgement or the hydro archon’s judgement?. Anyways I’m pretty sure by the time fontaine is here we will probably get a huge lore bomb but this time it will be about celestia/heavenly principles
They are in a energy crisis. When you are on an energy crisis you either seek new sources of energy (technology advances) or drop the inventions that need such energy (reversion). And if they are on the limit of what Celestia aproves the world to advance...

Khaenriah was a city that thrived with technological advancement and wanted to overthrow the gods, that's mostly what the Field Tillers (Ruin Guards) were for, to wage war so they got nuked. The same happened with Sal Vindagyr. The hints are already there, no advanced civilization = no threat to the divine.
And it's already confirmed the Cataclysm happened because of Celestia, the Archons were literally sent there.
@@no.1fan156 No, It was implied in the 3.1 Archon quest that the seven were summoned to Khaenri'ah AFTER the cataclysm, After the sky changed color(The traveler even says:"I knew it... the Khaenri'ah cataclysm." even before any mentions of the seven being summoned to Khaenri'ah and right after the "sky changed color" line) which implies that it happened before the archons or celestia were even involved, For all we know Khaenri'ah might've caused the cataclysm and the seven were sent to destroy it so it didn't spread to the rest of Teyvat.
i think it's very sweet that all of the archons we've seen so far see us as another way to preserve them forever. because traveler has been around so long and they're implied to be immortal, traveler will always carry memories with them. and no matter how wary they were of us at the beginning, they realize that traveler is someone they can rely on to be around them for nearly forever. and not only for them, but the twins are able to preserve all of teyvat. and unlike the irminsul, the traveler's memories can't be tainted, changed, or forgotten.
the twins may not have started this journey to preserve teyvat nor deeply care about this world, but as their journeys go on, they can't help but care about teyvat. it's kinda bittersweet because there will be a day where teyvat won't exist, but traveler will continue to carry everything that teyvat was. to acknowledge the duty of being the witness means accepting that this will all be gone one day.

Finally someone gets it. The actual name of the battle bass cutscene is gnostic chorus ofc gnostic coming from Gnosticism and chorus is defined to “a group of people responsible for summarizing events, usually in a play” meaning that the gnostic chorus is a allegory about the traveler

What Celestia is hiding is the use of a fake sky to force the people of Teyvat to have an already written Fate instead of letting them free to pursue their destiny.
And those who's actions break through that fake sky ends up having a Vision, that way Celestia ties them into a made up constellation to make them submit.

If every event in Teyvat is part of a play, then the Traveler is a Spectator. They can go on the stage, or interact with the actors, but they are and will always be outside the scope of the play.
On the topic of records and recording things, this reminds me of something called “The Golden Record” a, well, record, that has sounds of the earth, music, and greetings in 55 different languages. It was launched into space, as a sort of Time Capsule, in hopes that any other spacefarers may one day come across it. Preserving earths legacy, and telling our story to extraterrestrials people.
What I’m trying to get at is that’s it’s very similar to what the traveler is for Teyvat. With Aether bring called “Golden” on multiple occasions. example: Golden Nara, Golden Comet, or just “blonde” if you want to count that. Aether is practically a loving golden record of Teyvat, and possibly many other worlds and planets that have made him a witness as well.
Knowing that Rukkhadevata can't leave her responsibility in guarding Irminsul even if a great war has occured tells us that the gravity of maintaining the records in Irminsul is important.
I like how current Inazuma event ties into Inazuma's big story ark, but overall acts as a mini version of it, with the only difference being the scale of things and the ending

I cannot help but find a meta implication with the Travller (I.e. us) as witness of Teyvat.
Just as the Traveller could visit other worlds, so can we go to other worlds by just going other media or even the real world.
Also, we can remember what the original stories are even after retcons and reboots in the same way the Traveller can remember Rhukkhaevatah and Scaramouche.

Maybe not just the Traveler but all decendants act as history records to an entent. Something terrible is likely to happen to Teyvat to emphasize the Traveler's role as a "witness".
I have a theory that the unknown god isn’t an evil entity. There’s a lot of evidence that something extremely dark is happening behind the scenes, and only someone from beyond Teyvat can save it. Basically, my theory is the unknown god stopped the twins on purpose for a greater good. Perhaps she went rogue against Celestia? I’m not entirely sure, but I do know that the traveler being separated from their sibling, and their sibling choosing to lead the abyss is purposeful.

according to rule 34 she'll also be the traveler's girlfriend, i speculate sometime in 5.3 archon quest
In Honkai we currently have new knowledge on the equivalent of the Unknown God, to keep it as brief and minimise spoilers:
She is a servant of a higher power who is "dreaming" this world, her job is to cycle the world over and over again until the "dream" is the right one. Honkai and Genshin are now overlapping in their story and themes so much that they are almost telling the same story at certain points.
We don't know whether the Unknown God is doing the same, but if she's the Goddess of Time or Fate, she might be doing something similar, cycling fate until someone breaks destiny.

This whole witness thing and the "Forbidden knowledge" is really interesting. I myself am not a big lore geek but it reminds me of how some fantasy worlds are built. Especially the part where forbidden knowledge bring upon natural disasters.
There a type of world in fantasy where its rules are dictated by the collective belief of how the world should work. If you can convince enough people you can fly, you can fly. While its likely not how teyvat functions it is an interesting thought experiment or "what if".
If we assume this is how teyvat works then the fact that forbidden knowledge can cause natural disasters is just teyvats own "laws" reacting to the "truth" on how the world truly works.

Just noticing that the portal the Lecturn and Abyss Sib use during the story quest when you run into them has a symbol very similar to the symbol for Phyrexia. That could be really interesting
Oh there is definitely a conversation worth having comparing Khaenriah and it's forbidden knowledge to Phrexia and its devotion to phyresis. The black mud could be glistening oil corrupting the very mana/elements and memories of the land. Also worth mentioning: Phyrexias original ruler, before Yawgmoth, was supposedly a dragon planeswalker long since deceased. I thought it interesting that the 7 dragon sovereigns originally ruled Tehvat. Eerie similarities.

I think tha Venti's songs are additionally noteworthy because as we know from the Hekzencircle by wrapping knowlegde in allegory and metaphor it can avoid Irmunsole tampering. It might be his way of backing up information.

If you think about it, this game is basically the earth crumbling down in the hands of people who think they are superior. The archons are the people who defend themselves against the said superiors. The traveller is one being guided in that rebellion, though it will take time for the superiors to back down.
That's why the game will probably only finish its lore 6 years after its release.

And also from Wanderers voiceline it mentioned that Pierro frequently sends him to the ABYSS to investigate something
I Wonder why? Is it because Pierro was looking for the Abyss sibling in the depths of Abyss or something?
Another thing to note is thag PIERRO tasked SCARAMOUCHE the 6th harbinger to go to frequent trips to the Abyss, not the 3rd or 4th or any higher ranking harbinger.
This might imply that Scara has a special edge which what makes him the top choice in this Abyss exploration (might be his insane durability, being a puppet or somethin). Scara also went back alive with those frequent trips which speaks volume on how durable or strong he is.
As far as I can theorize
The first Descender is Celestia (I'll expand on this in another vid, but Heavenly Principles)
The second has perished as far as we know
So that leaves at least two ~

She merely stated that they are descenders in Teyvat and the traveller is 4th of them.
She didn't specifically say that there were only 4 descenders, we just assumed that.
So maybe there's likely a 5th, 6th or more descenders other than Celestia (1st) , 2nd, 3rd and us (4th)

The other descenders were higher entities that came even before the Archon war, refer to some lore found in Enkanomiya and stuff about the Primordial One. There are also books that talk about some old gods and even angels but I never bothered to remember their name. They're not mentioned directly but they're all there if you look.
I’m not certain if they need the traveler to be a witness, or if the traveler is just conveniently there. Also, the archons don’t seem to fully trust the traveler, given how at least 2 of the ones we met weave deceptive words and establish lies as truths to conceal their intentions to help the Fatui (Venti saying he’s the weakest archon to prepare to not use all his power vs. Signora, Nahida saying she can’t fight in order to distract from her high spellcasting abilities and act powerless vs. Dottore, etc.) I’m going with a theory that says the original traveler (that we think we’re playing as) was killed by the Heavenly Principles, and their soul was placed in a divine puppet/golem. This puppet has the same emotions and thoughts as the original traveler, but also an instinct to observe Teyvat, maintain the world’s order, and kill anyone who intends to destroy the current order, whether it’s the abyssal forces or Fatui. And because the archons are working with the Fatui, who we are working against, they want to repurpose us to help the Fatui, and don’t want us to succeed in protecting a single gnosis. That’s why 3 out of 4 times, we’ve been ambushed/trapped, before the gnosis was stolen or handed over. Because in Zhongli’s case, we wouldn’t win a fight, but the other 3 times, we would’ve if there was no trap

I wanna mention i think it's interesting that the gods that are thematically oposing (freedom and contracts, wisdom in dreams and ambition and eternity in static and a stop in progress) have similar views on erosion and time, or legacy and history
It shows that while they believe in very different things they're not all that different, both venti and eventually zhongli think the humans can rule themselves with the occasional helping hand, and both nahida and ei believe they need guidance or a leader, but they changed how their nations were ruled a bit by the end of their story quest
Their nations also have similarities, zhongli and ventis home nations are both incredibly reflective of the gods themselves, and fairly consistent throughout, yes there's areas that are different like stormterrors lair and the chasm but fairly consistent otherwise, but both inazuma and sumeru have large areas that are equal to or larger than the area that feels reprentitive of their nations, the desert in sumeru's case, and only one island feels like the one ei rules, and both of these places have had gods ruling their nation or areas of their nation for just as long or longer than them themselves, and both have residents that follow completely different gods even if they arent alive, in liyue this is slightly true but its a bit different because you can tell liyue as a nation is united and thriving, even if there are a few people that push away the idea of following morax and follow the perceived ideals of dead gods like the god of salt, but most people in liyue love morax and the adepti, most people in mondstat love venti, in sumeru only some people love nahida, even though she's great, for different reasons, like following the scarlet king or being of the old akademia and while the shogun has her followers, she had an entire resistance and there are entire islands that barely think of her in anyway other than she is a force in the world, one that they might or might not oppose, watatsumi being an example of a whole shrine to a different diety, one that ei killed idk just thought all this was interesting
From what I understand after playing the game until Sumeru (This is my speculation and theory) I think the travellers sibling made a deal with Celestia in order to protect the traveller, he/she was sent by Celestia to erase any remaining knowledge of Kanreah from the entire Tevyat, that's why it seems that only the archons know about Kanreah, and erase any other history regarding Celestia destroying any other civilization, that is why no one knows the true history of enkanomiya,(if you did the story quest in enkanomiya you remember an abyss mage searching for a book containing the history of Enkanomiya), in the process of the siblings travels he stumbles upon some unkown truth and betrays Celestia.(Because in the battlepass we are told that the first sibling becomes corrupted and another is sent, which might refer to the traveller) which might imply after Celestia knowing about the betrayal the traveller awakens but most of their power's sealed as a safety measure, meaning traveller might not a witness most likely freed/awakened by Celestia to see that if the memory/information of Kanreah or any other piece of information regarding Celestia bringing down any civilization that resisted them
The traveler is the only one able to do what he wants and not trigger Celestia's wrath. Nahida mentioned that she could awake The heavenly principles by destroying a Gnosis, so basically any drastic actions the Archons make will be alerted to Celestia and will be corrected or erased. Traveler can change story and do drastic changes and Celestia won't know or be alerted, keeping them sleeping for now.

I remember when I first played GI that the lore was "Very obvious" and not at all hard to understand. But now I'm second guessing every special event, every lore entry. The ascension materials for certain characters and even clothing. I remember meeting Danse for the first time and thinking his clothes looked... similar to the traveler. As well as Keaya's. With star patterns incorporated into the design. Only to discover their secret connections to Kahneria. Things are very well thought out, nothing seems to be an accident.
(For example I keep seeing themes of "Time" "Immortality vs Mortality" "Outliving others" in story quests and special events)
I remember when we first meet Kazuka, that the Traveler explicitly says don't want a vision. (Perhaps they see no need) However When first coming to Teyvat they were confused on what a vision was and often ask others to explain what a Vision is and what another Character sees it as. What I don't remember is wether or not the Traveler has slight amnesia. I haven't finished the entirety of the Dendro Archon quest so I haven't gotten that far yet. But as a Descender, why do they not know these important bits of information of other worlds Celestia overrules? "Other worlds" The Traveler has seen others worlds, but Visions seem to only be in Teyvat? I'm missing something here.
I believe that visions are unique to the world of Teyvat, as it turns out, it is the celestial gods who offer visions to Teyvat's mortals. What makes me believe this is for the company's other games, it seems, all games are connected in some way, the best way to describe it is the Welt of Honkai Star Rail is the same as Welt from Honkai Impact 3rd (even if they are different games from the same company), and none of these games have what are known as visions, it's not something the humans in the other games need to be strong, as with their own technologies, they technically don't even need vision. To me, it makes a lot of sense that the traveler has no knowledge of vision precisely because it is the first time he has visited Teyvat and be unique in this world

With the card game being added to the game everything makes sense.
The "Omni Element" dice is the creator. All the other 7 elements are light frequencies which when combined creates "pure light".
We all know the travelers are children of the creator not only of Teyvat, but everything that exists and that the people who rule over celestia are NOT the true gods.
The archons are working together with the Tsaritsa to dethrone whoever rules over celestia, that is why they have been giving away their gnosis. They have figured out they are being used as pawns to sustain Teyvat's biggest fraud:
The 7 elements are a lie, there is only "pure light". Celestia has managed to weaken the true creator and split its light in 7 weaker frequencies. The Archons are broken shadows of the same being.

I think that not even Fate can influence the traveler. I just remember the trailer for genshin impact where Dainsleif was narrating that at the end of journey it was the Traveler themselves who would weave fate as they see fit.

Im not a smart person when it comes to theories or lores as I don't read or intricately understand the dialogues and written lores inside the game, im taking reference of the basic knowledge in genshin lorewise and theories i get from numerous social media platforms.
I just simply theorized that what if, the reason why irminsul hasn't recorded the traveler as a descender, because somehow even the traveler was affected by teyvats erosion for god knows why after staying and living in teyvat for 500+ years. There is still no concrete evidence or basis to my theories as i probably still need to research more about irminsul and erosion, but i think its quite a fun theory.
(Plus different things affect the traveler and the people around the traveler like paimon and nahida.
Example: traveler is immune to erosion and the effects of irminsul plus being able to handle all the elements without a vision
Paimon just basically breaking the normal physics of the world by being able to appear and disappear out of thin air, and flying but no one ever in teyvat ever questions her being
Nahida or the gods as in the archon quest where dottore knocks traveler and paimon but not nahida because she is a god.

Ironically speaking, both Raiden and Morax could learn a thing or two from Sigmar from Warhammer Fantasy.
1) Unlike Raiden, who essentially became Inazuma problem because of her issues, Sigmar left the moment he realized he was becoming more of a hinderance to the Empire and give power to someone that would not have excessive power.
2) Unlike Morax, he didn’t fully abandon the Empire, and still played a role as its god. Not only that, he told his people what was going on, and even laid out a plan as how the Empire would be ruled, giving birth to the Elector Counts, as opposed to Morax who just simply fucking faked his death and left the people of Liyue figure out what to do next.
Genshin Impact to me feels like a combined story of Neon Genesis Evangelion and Star Treks TNG's The Inner Light. "If you remember what we were, and how we lived, then we'll have found life again." Maybe not entirely but to a certain degree, mostly because of the both Traveler's role. The sibling allied with the abyss traveled the world and much of their adventure is lost to time as well. They've become a record of days long since passed and we're becoming a record of the present.
