I just started buying clothes new. I am 74 yrs young, every item before was second hand. No consumption of materials time labor. I got fabulous designer clothes that have never gone out of style ie black pencil skirt black blazer black straight leg dress pants black dress casual and dressy. I love navy and red and brown and green and maroon. I love scarves for contrast . and stick to neutral tops with a great scarf. As I’ve aged I wore things out, whatever I buy doesn’t need to last forever. I can try some fun things, not crazy just fun. It is so liberating.
I have a recommendation for items you have a lot of like handbags, shoes or belts. Most people don't have everything they own on display. You photograph each one of them within that category and when you put an outfit together you check your pics. I came up with this because I had many handbags but did not use all of them or I was undecided about which one would go with an outfit. Looking at the pics made it so much easier.
Liz, that's such a clever idea! 📸 It's like having a visual catalog of your accessories, making coordination much simpler. I'll definitely keep this tip in mind and might even share it in a future video. Thanks for the innovative suggestion! 👜💡
i have all my clothes hung by use first....casual, dressy, sporty ... Then ss, long sleeves....shorts seperate from pant outfits. Then by color....everything hung on wooden hangers. I have hooks i put over top hanger that holds bottoms. I then hang all the coordinating tops i could wear with those bottoms. I keep jackets and sweaters...3rd layer hanging in same place seperated by color. Shoes are all together by color...starting with dressy down to most casual. They arevon shelves underneath hanging clothes. i try everything on beginning of each season to get rid of what doesnt fit or look good on me. i do change my hangers backwards after i wear to see what i dont wear. i try not to wear anything twice until i wear everything once.
Vicki, it sounds like you’ve really mastered the art of organizing your wardrobe! Your system of categorizing by use, season, and color, not to mention the clever hanger trick to track what you’ve worn, is just fantastic. It’s such a smart way to ensure everything gets used and keeps your closet feeling fresh. Thanks for sharing your tips-I’m sure they will inspire others to rethink their own wardrobe organization. Keep enjoying your beautifully organized closet! 🌟
Excellent video!! It's too easy to grab stuff and wind up with a closet that is not cohesive and does not serve you well. Also enjoyed that Philadelphia was mentioned, because that's where I live! I've never enjoyed the twice-yearly rearrangement of clothing, though I do it...sometimes it's fun to see a warm cozy item that is like an old friend you can't wait to wear again or look forward to summer when you get your shorts back out, but it's a lot of work moving everything around!
I actually want to change my entire wardrobe and start from scratch 😅 I have different style now and i feel guilty if put them away. Thank you for your advice
Loved this video! I have a curated, good quality wardrobe with items that I love to wear. I try to shop secondhand as it allows me to buy better quality at a lower price. I already do many of the things you mentioned, but I plan to step it up a notch and do the outfit planning for specific events. Loved that concept ❤❤❤! My former boss was a fashionista and we used to plan our outfits for big client meetings 🤩. One of our clients always wore pearls so we would do the same. It was a fun way to get through some stressful meetings.
I like the idea of theme days. I did it when I worked and creating outfits was so easy. I didn’t think of doing this now that I’m retired but I will start.
Hi Donna, theme days can be such a game-changer! It's terrific that you found them helpful during your working days. Embracing them in retirement sounds like a fun way to keep things fresh and inspired. Enjoy your themed outfits! 👒🌼
Love your videos, I have so many clothes, nothing to wear, and not a particular fashion style, I have been binging on your videos for the last few days, and decided to sell a lot of my clothes that just sit in the closet. I love Lilly Pulitzer and will start buying a few pieces at a time to build my wardrobe, into a much simpler and more beautiful style. Live in Florida, so like you I do not have to deal with true winter clothes. Thank you so much for all your ideas and advice
Hi Sylvia, it sounds like you're on a transformative journey with your wardrobe! Streamlining and focusing on brands you love, like Lilly Pulitzer, can make dressing up much more enjoyable. Florida's weather certainly gives you a unique fashion canvas. I'm delighted that my videos have been helpful. Here's to building a wardrobe that truly resonates with you! 🌴👗
This was a great video. I wear the same thing everyday. My everyday summer outfit is a pair of shorts and a t shirt. So my problem is which t shirt to wear. I’m planning on buying a full length mirror next month. But I’m not sure where I will put it. I live in the south. And we have warm weather a long time. I used to live in the Midwest where we had cold longer. I have a cedar chest full of sweaters. I’m going to go through them and give them away. I have been buying way more cashmere. So those I will be keeping. But the rest I will send home with my daughter and granddaughter who both live in the Midwest. I would love to have a capsule wardrobe. But there’s no way I would be happy with only a few things to wear. I’m more of a maximalist. I like to have choices. I pack the same way. I always overpack, in case I change my mind and want to wear something else.
Hi Pamela, thank you for sharing your fashion journey! It's lovely to hear about your switch from the Midwest to the South and how that has influenced your style. Making good use of those sweaters by passing them to your daughter and granddaughter is thoughtful. As for the capsule wardrobe, it's all about what makes you happiest! If having choices feels right, embrace your maximalist spirit. And hey, overpacking means you're always prepared for any occasion! 😉👜
Hi Julie, thank you so much for your concern! I'm glad to report that I'm safe from the flooding. Your kind words and care mean so much. Hope you're staying safe and well, too! 💙🌧
Excellent information!! I think your idea about a list is so important. We are constantly being bombarded with the trends. I need to be more mindful of this of what I actually need. Thank you!!😊
Hi Claudia, I'm so glad you found the information helpful! It's true with ever-changing trends, having a clear list can keep us grounded and intentional in our choices. Thanks for watching and for your thoughtful comment. Stay fabulous! ✨📝

Quality over quantity... Number one great tip!

Well organized and thoughtful video! ❤
Great video
Haven’t been in a store for clothes for 10 years
Hi Cindy, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! 🤩Wow - 10 years! Is that because you only shop online or don't buy clothes anymore?
I actually want to change my entire wardrobe and start from scratch 😅 I have different style now and i feel guilty if put them away. Thank you for your advice
Omg. Makes so much sense abt going on a trip and taking only what you'll wear!

The pink animal print sweater you draped over your denim shirt is really nice. Might that be from Lilly Pulitzer? Thank you
It is a LP sweater, I believe from a couple of seasons ago. Love it!
