  • Join us for our Season 2 Finale, Discovering Ft. Payne and Mentone! We’ll begin in Fort Payne, where as always, we’ll explore the cute and picturesque historic downtown district. Afterwards, we’ll visit the official fan club of one of the most successful Country music groups of all time. From there, we’ll explore the Little River Canyon National Preserve, home to waterfalls and breathtaking scenic vistas. Then we’ll venture over to DeSoto State Park, where we’ll spend time hiking the trails and enjoying the fall colors. Finally, we’ll make our way up Lookout Mountain to the town of Mentone, a tiny but quirky mountain village, where we’ll hike our way down to the stunning Desoto Falls. All this and more, in Discovering Ft. Payne and Mentone!
Make sure you hit that subscribe button, it really does help us out a lot. Also, follow us on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates on where we're going next. On our way to summer scout camp, we stop and hike down into the canyon to our favorite, secret swimming hole and spend the day. It is always interesting to see how the new scouts and parents react to the hike down and back, plus the swimming hole. The hike down only takes about 20 min and the trail is well marked, but secret. Can't wait for summer.

I bring the scout troop up to LRC on our way to summer camp every summer. We hike down to our favorite, secret swimming hole. Swimming and jumping into the river all day long, the new scouts and their parents always fall in love with this place. During the winter we come up and camp for a week, doing day trips all around the area, hiking, climbing, visiting historic locations, and a hike up a side canyon and hike out at a 60' waterfall .We have explored various sections and rock formations. Everyone wants to go back next summer.

Love Fort Payne, especially "The Spot," when it comes to eating. Every time we visit, we make sure to eat there....best sandwiches ever.

Two of my favorite vacation spots, Fort Payne and Mentone. I camp at DeSoto at least once a year.

Ms. Judy is great. I spent a lovely afternoon in the museum and opera house not too long ago.

My wife and I visit Mentone frequently. The only drawback to it is the hours or lack thereof of the shops and restaurants. When we see a place closed when typically it would be open, we call it “Mentone hours.”

Every year, usually in September or October, a group of Alabama based Firebird/Trans Am enthusiasts (Bama Birds) cruises through Little River Canyon. If you’ve never seen a flock of 50+ Firebirds screaming fast as they can through mountain roads, you should lol.

Forgot to mention the 1 ski run that's up there. When they get snow, you can ski or snowboard.

I live here as well, although we’ve not been here quite two years. When I lived outside of Tulsa, OK, for 30 years, my drive came right through town and over Little River Falls. I’d grown up in Rome, GA, yet I’d never gotten to go to the falls. Never did I imagine that I’d be living here in the future! Wow! Living only about 8-10 mins from Little River, we go any time we want. And DeSoto is right down the road from us. I LOVE where we live - surrounded by so much beauty! Mentone is such a cute and quirky little area. Very cool! Thank you both for your video of our beautiful, small town of Fort Payne. ❤

I've been going up to Fort Payne since I was a kid (From Birmingham originally). I go up there with my family every fall and rent a cabin at the state park.

Enjoyed your video. The area is beautiful. Please consider an invitation to another area near Ft Payne called Boaz. Rich history, beautiful scenery, and small town community. You might be interested in our selection of Murals downtown that depict a lot of our history. Feel free to reach out. I am the curator of the Boaz Legacy Museum.
