The double plastic corner box filter - been running one for months with Fluval biomax plus the foams in a 15G. Definitely recommend.

This may have already been mentioned, not sure, but the sponges are in the wrong order. It pulls water in from the top of the box, so the course sponge goes on top and the fine on bottom.

My dad would make ours..he worked in a plastics factory..he designed machines to pack drinking straws..I surpose he would be classed as a straw pusher nowadays..😂😂😂😂😂...he made everything to be honest the tanks the filters the stands the lids
etc..I got a smaller box filter the other day for my hospital tank..it works well..but it's cheaply made..I will do a review..I think it was $7 on Amazon..the plastic they use cracks and breaks so easy..so reviews like this are really useful..I would be happier to pay a little more for a better filter..

You can move the coarse sponges at the top and the white ones below (if they are fine pad or sponges) them the rest for mechanical media. Leave the gravel at the bottom tray👍👍👍

i replaced the sponges with pillow floss and they do a great job polishing the water, i have them in a ten, thirty and fifty five gallons, the fifty five is my mutt guppy and albino bristle nose breeding tank, i want to thank you this tank has made me a few extra bucks , also have a seventy two that came with a orange flower horn, she did not eat my guppy culls so now there are hundreds of babies growing in this tank also she does not eat plants, guess they can be sweet

I used an old one us gallon Betta jurying contiener, at the bottom I stuck a sponge filter with a long up lift tube, above it I used about a 400g or 0.8/9 lb of matrix filter media and above it the polifill, so the water flows throw the polifill, then the matrix then the sponge filter and out... sorry for the English Im not American/live in an English speaking country...
The price on your website is now correct. When I watched your video on the Chinese box filter, I went to your site to see what fish you are selling. There was a package of guppies that had $0.00 as the price. I was curious so I started to order them to see if it was really $0.00. When I went to check out the cart, the only charge was $20 for shipping. I canceled everything because I didn’t want to try and take advantage. Glad it is now correct and I hope you didn’t loose money. I’m sure it was a typo. With that said, I am going to get a beverage and snack.

Sunday morning coffee. Up to 40 gallons. Hmmmm. That’s a good price. Reminds me of the old school filters but way better. Just got a five pound bag of loose bio rings from my LFS. I love them send em to me. Lol. Great review.

I actually use the single of this filter in my fry tanks and they also fit on the inlet tube of a marina hang on breeder box (medium sized). And they flow great for there size.
I did replace the rocks with bio rings that I already had cycled. Lava rock would also be great to add in there over the pea gravel.
All in all there worth the money and hold up better than you would thing.
Time will tell. /you don't think the holes are too big for fry?
I have had fry get in to the top holes but they just graze on the sponge and swim back out.
Mostly use them on the intake tube of the marina hang on boxes.
It also makes them quiet...

These would work best if the gravel was replaces with Pumice or Biohome gravel. I would also rearrange the order of the sponges depending on the direction the water would be flowing through them so the coarse foam is what the water contacts first.
If ther is an attachment for a air stone I would use a high quality air stone to help maximize the flow of water passing through the filter.
Pumice is a for of lava rock but unlike red or black lava rock which has very little actual surface area is has a lot of surface because it’s core is similar to that of the Biohome media.
It with this thing sucking from multiple places it really won’t be as efficient as it would if it only sucked from the top like the old style corner filters.
Lava rock is all surface area...it has millions of tiny holes.
Not necessarily so. The inside of Scoria (the decorative landscape lava rock) is primarily solid and doesn’t have cavities or tunnels as Pumice, bioh9me media or even like activated carbon would. It just has air pockets from the rapid cooling that takes place when the lave reacts to the cold sea water.

Actually the more I look at it . I changed the base as well and have put silicone around the bottom holes . With 3 other filters it’s good for 40 gallons.
Why silicone on the bottom holes?
I just made them work like an old fashioned box filters by extending the uplift hose on the inside and blocking the holes at the bottom .
I tossed that little box for the ceramics and I cut a slot in the one medium sized sponge so I can slip it off the hose extension.

I do like the 90 degree bend on the end as standard and it’s slightly smaller aperture at the end seems to boost flow without noise.

Well, that little cheap import did an AMAZING job at trapping all the gunk from your tank. I LOVE 😍 my LUSTAR green box filters. They're workhorses when used with Sera filter wool. Although, I'm not sure if LUSTAR makes them in 🇨🇳 🤷🏾♂️😂😂.

I have the same filter in my 100 liter goldfish tank. And i added air stone to it but the bubbles comes out from different part not just the lift tube am i doing it wrong ?

Thanks for your videos on filter hacks. They have taught me so much! Can you do an update on this filter showing alternative media and the right order in which the filter media should be placed to optimize the box filter? I just got the same one and I feel like the order of the media could be rearranged. Perhaps all the mechanical media on top and all bio media at the bottom chamber?

Good evening, great video, I have a 30 G tank, thinking of going for this box filter. I am really confused a lot of people saying different things about the media order there. Do you have a solid answer on which way is the flow and what is the best order?

It always comes in from the bottom. So course media on the bottom, then fine, then bio.
Liked before I watched because it’s one of your videos.funny and entertaining.If your ever in Ny capital area you should do a fish store tour of Bensons’s fish room in Ballston Spa.They have had a chain of pet stores and now a fish store..If you go ask for Carter (pleco nerd)got him feeding tofu now..

I had the nano version of this. So the one stack. It’s cheap, it worked well for a while. The media was a pain to replace, just the buying and cutting, added my own. The top kept coming off which was another pain. Also, it doesn’t work with shrimp. Too many holes, too many stuck shrimp. My “China” sponge filters work so much better and lasts longer. :D Yeah, not worth it in my opinion.

I have a mutt guppy breeding tank myself in a 20 long/planted (dwarf sag carpet etc.) that I will be upgrading this week to a 54 corner tank can't wait.

@@MichaelsFishRoom I had like 5 or 6 of them in various 10 gals. They were particularly hard to get into tanks where arm reach is hard. They fall apart worse once biofilm forms between the joins. Mine also had a stupid basket of useless media at the bottom that I removed and replaced with filter noodles.

I'm trying to decide whether to use a box filter or a spnge filter. Your videos have been mostly been very good and helpful, but i've watched maybe three now and jesus christ nobody cares that you call them "china filters". Did you get a single comment when you first did it or something? Who the hell would be "offended" by that? Like that is a extremely small demographic considering how much time out of each video was you talking to them. If you don't care if they are offended why even say anything? Nothing says "i don't care about your feelings" like constant reminders just how little you care, everytime you think there is a slight chance someone is offended. idk why i am even commenting this on a 4 year old video, it just kinda confused me why you seem to care so much about letting people know that you don't care lol.
Anyway thanks for the reveiw though it was very helpful, even if your extremely brave and radical rejection of political correctness was so shocking to a feeble liberal snowflake such as myself.
Thanks for the feedback, yes people are snowflakes, complaining about things that don't even matter, kinda like this situation. I know you will continue to watch my videos, and that will help me sleep at night.

Not at all Micheal....truth be told, I wouldn't have subscribed if I didn't want to see you have success. The thing is, most of your viewers are tuning in to see what your up to, as much as the content...nothing wrong with a general rant, it's part if your 'schtick'...but I don't think it's a good look getting, or being personal. Try more updates on your fish room, Chewy, sales and purchases, positive fish store tours, shows...was it business in Japan?...and life in general...I think you might be surprised by the response! Let me know if you want viewers like myself to still...'Just go away!'??
