I kept mine in a quart jar in the fridge door. Btw, I was given the recipe by a Wilton Cake Instructor back in the 80's. Before that I used Baker's Joy nonstick spray. Recipe as follows: 1c oil 1c Crisco Shortening 1c all purpose flour Mix well and brush onto your baking pans with a good coat before adding the batter. Your baked goodies will come out perfect every time.
My dad was born in 1933. He used to tell me he remembered when the cupcakes became filled ones. He loved them and would buy them 2 for 5cents and take them to the movies.
Hey Becky, here’s a handy little tip - when you want to have a filling in a cupcake wait for them to cool and then use an apple corer to take out the centre of the cupcake (don’t push the corer to the bottom of the cupcake or the filling will spill out). You’re then left with the perfect size hole for the filling. If you want a neat finish on the top keep the hole you cut out and cut a little off the length then pop the hole back on top of the cupcake - ta da surprise filling and a neat cupcake top to frost on to. Also if you want a specific nozzle with which to fill a homemade Twinkie buy a donut nozzle which has a longer spout that you can pipe from each end of the Twinkie.
@@colleenbellscanadiangarden9180 I did not suggest Becky did anything wrong. I was merely offering some tips for different nozzles as she said she liked cake decorating.
I'm gonna say that the homemade versions of these are much better. They don't have all the additives and whatever else makes the original ones last for five hundred years. Delicious Becky!
Hi Becky! You can make pan release that is shelf stable for 6 months or refrigerated one year. It replaces bakers joy and does not leave flour on the edges of your baked goods. 1 cup each Crisco,All purpose flour and vegetable oil. Use only vegetable oil no sub. Blend together with stick blender and brush your pan liberally! Baked goods come out clean every time. This is what the bakery uses. Love your videos!
The twinkie pan would be perfect for mini strawberry angel food cakes. You could make a beautiful dinner dessert presentation. I love watching you try new things.
Just a hint: I use parchment cupcake papers. They look like regular cupcake papers. Except they are brown. Your cupcakes comes off the papers perfectly. No sticking. I'm so excited to try these recipes! Love your show!

We had a Hostess Bakery in our neighborhood when I was growing up. I am 69 now. It was a huge treat once a month to go to the on site store to pick out our favorites. I haven’t had these in years. I enjoy watching your videos!
Piping tip: don't push all the icing (or whatever you're piping) to the tip, smoosh about a 1/3 of it to the tip; leave the rest on top, so you'll have a small ball in your hand & a big one on top of your hand, this will also help keep the bag from breaking at the seams. Also the big white plastic part goes in the bag, the metal tip and ring on the outside so you can change out the tips if, needed. It was great seeing you have so much fun!
Also, when having all the icing in the bag with your hands on it will warm the icing, causing it to melt before you pipe it out. Though that might not always be an issue depending on what you are piping, I guess.

I lived in the USA for 6 months when I was 4 yrs old (about 55 years ago!) and I can 'taste' those cupcakes just by seeing the box! They certainly make an impression.
Hostess cakes and twinkies are very nostalgic for me, was always in my school lunch, or another brand called, Tasty Kakes, which were from the Philadelphia, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware areas. Definitely going to make these for my family in England!
My Mom would buy twinkies for my Dad’s lunch. She put them in the freezer thinking they would last longer but….my brother and I discovered them and that is where our journey of eating them frozen began 😊 I haven’t had one for a few decades now and not sure if I would like them room temperature!
Try dipping the Twinkies in a pancake batter and deep frying them. Pure heaven. I thought it would be awful and ignored them at the local fairs. I was wrong.
Hi, Becky! While the cakes are warm, take a skewer and poke it in the cakes where the filling will go. Gently twirl the skewer to make room(a cavity) in the cake for the filling. This will reduce the need for you to squeeze the bags so hard.😊

Those look absolutely awesome! I haven’t eaten a Twinkie or a Hostess cupcake in many years because they don’t taste the same! Whoever took over Hostess changed the recipe!
Becky I love your willingness to try new things with us. I can’t imagine you not being able to push yourself to make anything to be at the least edible…but most of the time I believe from how it looks. That it turns out pretty darn good. Keep pushing yourself to do better. You are truly an inspiration to us all. To be so young and have accomplished so much. Amazing!!!!
I spray all of my tins with either coconut oil or flour/oil spray. They pop out of the tins perfectly. Also, if you over fill the cup, they will rise up and over the sides and stick, unless you spray the top of the tin as well.
Those Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes look so cute and yummy. Love your light-hearted attitude in the kitchen and your adorable smile, too. Happy baking! 😁
🙋🏻♀️ Me too with the oven light! I love how you're so comfortable making new things because you make it look so easy for us try ourselves, I'm only halfway through but these are looking perfect & And without a thousand unhealthy ingredients 🥰
When you do the decoration on top, allow the cream to fall out of the tip with just a slight amount of pressure from your hand. When you press too hard with your hand, the icing comes out and wrinkles. So make sure your icing will flow enough that you can follow the pattern around cleanly and smoothly. Practicing on the parchment paper would also help. They look delicious.
This! I was just looking to find a yummy desert to make on this Sunday afternoon! Tonight we have, honey garlic pork tenderloin in the instant pot with oven roasted red and sweet potatoes and pan fried bacon brussel sprouts! Our whole family loves your videos!
This is a fun idea. I enjoy your channel. Our local Latino market’s bakery makes the cupcakes called Penguinos. Delicious. Apparently the curlicue top is difficult to do. A new baker can’t master it so they’ve eliminated the Penguino from their menu. 😢 You might find it easier to fold ingredients if you use a slightly bigger rubber spatula. With easy Amazon shopping a lot of us ordered smaller spatulas than we realized. 😅
Becky it’s always good to add a little bit at a time of your flour mixture. You could lose some of your leveling agents when you add all at once & it poofs out of your mixer. Which could result in a faulty baked item. Good job on everything😊
4:37 For anyone thinking about getting a Bosch mixer, we got one a few months ago and its great! Having the mixing arm low and in the center makes it super stable for kneading. I highly recommend upgrading to the stainless bowl, mine stays on the countertop and I personally think it looks better and more subtle than the white plastic. It also holds warmth well for rising dough and I feel much better having my foods mixed in a metal bowl (the center mixer and some of the attachments are plastic but that wasnt a deal breaker for me) We eat a lot more pizza, tortillas and sandwich bread now that I make them regularly 🤩
Okay, you definitely need to remember the Twinkie needs to be immortal! Seriously, in all my 62 years I have yet to see a moldy Twinkie. Or come to think about it, no Cupcake either!
Hi Becky! What great recreations of these classics!! A tip with the piping for you: put the white piece in the bag, then put the metal tip on the outside of the bag before placing the screw top on. That way, if you're doing another project and you want to use the same icing with a different tip, you can just unscrew it, change the tip, and screw the new one into place! You wouldn't have to refill a whole new bag with the same icing just to change the tip! 🧁
Becky is there anything you can't do ? You r so cool. Your not afraid to try anything new on camera. You take away or add & it always turns out perfect. We raised 5 children & twins in there. I'm 82 years old. I've got 2 children left, my husband is gone. I' have grandchildren & great grandchildren. Will I didn't mean to tell you my life story. I love your videos. ❤
Just an FYI, the plastic coupler goes in the pipping bag and the tip goes on top of the bag and coupler so that you can switch out pipping tips if you need to.
I always use the spray that has the flour in it with it. BAKER'S JOY is the name and I get it at Walmart. That way nothing sticks as you've spayed it with oil and floured it at same time. Glad to see you doing these classic snack cakes.
OMG I've been saying that for months! That's a Millennial crutch internet filler phrase. I'm just grateful she doesn't say "um", "like", "uh", "you know"...
Homemade baking goop = equal parts of flour, oil & shortening. Mix well and paint tins with pastry brush. Last approximate 9 months in refrigerator. If using for chocolate cake generously paint tins as chocolate cakes notoriously stick more than other cakes. Or use chocolate goop for chocolate cake = 1 Tbsp cocoa, 2 Tbsp oil & 2 Tbsp shortening and mix well. Paint tins with pastry brush.
Gosh, that was so much fun to watch…those are two of my favorite childhood snacks. The ones they make today are not the same. Very ambitious of you to do both at the same time. Wish I could have been there to taste them! Good job❣️
I enjoyed your video. The top of your cupcake tin needed to be greased because the cake overflowed on it as it baked. Dusting pan with cocoa powder would be added insurance. I’m inspired to make filled cupcakes!
Wow a clean food version of my favorite childhood commercial sweet treats. I haven't has these in years. Thanks Becky - your the best. Where did you find the twinkie pan?
Very impressive! You should try Banana Flips. They aren’t sold anymore but basically they are like a banana cake folded into a taco shape with banana cream filling.
I loved Banana Flips as a kid! A few months ago, I ran across a channel called Little Village Homestead where this lady made whoopie pies using cake mix. I found Dolly Parton’s banana cake mix, and used that. There were a few other ingredients too. I made these, and they came out tasting so good that I will never buy a store bought Banana Flip ever again! You can make other flavors too - I did strawberry, and they were also very tasty, but my favorite flavor is the banana!
The Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies were never favs, homemade versions are definitely something I will try. Cornbread in the hotdog tin would be fun. You could fill treats with your homemade jans....so yummy. How about a Red Velvet Twinkie with a cream cheese filling?

I never eat sweets, but it IS Becky, so I'm always watching. I'm not diabetic either. We just never grew up eating sweets. Thank you, mom & dad. God bless you all and many prayers 🙏🏻 Nurse Judi 🙏🏻 ✨️📿💓
I don't know how i could go through life without sweets...not that i eat them constantly but a girl needs chocolate 😂😂
Nice to see you and Josh together, very fun episode!
Welcome back glad to see you again
Love to watch your videos thank you soooo much
I made these Hostess Knock-offs in the 80's & I actually have a Filling Decorator Tip...it is long like a Hummingbird Beak👍🏼
You are stunning in this video Becky! So much light from your eyes make you shine.
Aw thanks so much! You are so very sweet!
This is one hardworking lady. A joy to watch and learn from each and every video!
YOU NAILED IT! They look great and I can tell they tasted great too! You are so much fun to watch, love your channel!
My all time favorite was the cupcakes growing up
Oh my gosh! I knew you were my favorite!! This is fantastic!!!
Those look absolutely awesome! I haven’t eaten a Twinkie or a Hostess cupcake in many years because they don’t taste the same! Whoever took over Hostess changed the recipe!
You can buy a sleeve for on top of the Mixing bowl with your Kitchenaid Machine. This way the Flour will not jump out.
Amazing!!!!
I made up pumpkin custard ( think pumpkin pie without the pastry), and put it in pumpkin muffins. Very good!
Sounds delicious
Keep baking Becky, it makes your meal prep channel more complete. So much fun!
I spray all of my tins with either coconut oil or flour/oil spray. They pop out of the tins perfectly. Also, if you over fill the cup, they will rise up and over the sides and stick, unless you spray the top of the tin as well.
Helpful. Thanks
Those Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes look so cute and yummy. Love your light-hearted attitude in the kitchen and your adorable smile, too. Happy baking! 😁
Blessings to you and your family Becky. These look so delicious, have a awesome week as God gives us all life once more❤❤🙏
🙋🏻♀️ Me too with the oven light!
They’re beautiful and you are an absolute natural cook artist❤
You might find it easier to fold ingredients if you use a slightly bigger rubber spatula. With easy Amazon shopping a lot of us ordered smaller spatulas than we realized. 😅
How fun it’s Sunday here 🎉 Thank you Becky🎉
Try flouring the tins.
My aunt made the cupcakes when I was a kid 35 years ago. They were so good.
Becky it’s always good to add a little bit at a time of your flour mixture. You could lose some of your leveling agents when you add all at once & it poofs out of your mixer. Which could result in a faulty baked item. Good job on everything😊
I miss butterscotch krimpets, those were my favorite!
Great job! They look so authentic!
It also holds warmth well for rising dough and I feel much better having my foods mixed in a metal bowl (the center mixer and some of the attachments are plastic but that wasnt a deal breaker for me)
We eat a lot more pizza, tortillas and sandwich bread now that I make them regularly 🤩
Okay, you definitely need to remember the Twinkie needs to be immortal! Seriously, in all my 62 years I have yet to see a moldy Twinkie. Or come to think about it, no Cupcake either!
Yes! I saw one in a 20 year time capsule and it was NOT moldy!😳🥹
It's in zombie land the movie (they will last forever) 😆
Too cool, your little one is going to be a happy little taste tester!! Yummy, such a good job..
I think she meant get doggy 😂
@@debbieinitaly she has an almost 2 year old boy..
Huh. Thanks! learned 2 new things. Today!
Well 4 😂😂😂
I was going to say the same thing. 😊
I always use the spray that has the flour in it with it. BAKER'S JOY is the name and I get it at Walmart. That way nothing sticks as you've spayed it with oil and floured it at same time. Glad to see you doing these classic snack cakes.
“Loops” were called squiggles in Hostess cupcakes commercials back in the day
Me and my wife and her mom used to watch Food Network before her mom passed now we just like to watch your videos. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Acre Homestead drinking game: take a shot every time Becky says "go ahead and..."
Are you kidding!! I'd be 3 sheets to the wind in no time. Lol
Ohyeah, drunk already . Love you Becky❤
I counted 17 times she said it!!😃
OMG I've been saying that for months! That's a Millennial crutch internet filler phrase. I'm just grateful she doesn't say "um", "like", "uh", "you know"...
Or incredible
I love your aprons. Your cooking is so realistic and your videos calming, Love you and your family,
You should use Baker's Joy or the equivalent when doing cakes and cupcakes, and use it liberally. Then you won't have the problem with sticking.
So fun for sure and so fun to add Josh too!! Great job, Becky, they look beautiful and my mouth was watering!
They make a long pointed tip to put filling in cupcakes and pastries. Wilton has one I know.
WOW! I can't believe that you are making these today! I was just this morning wondering if one could make homemade Twinkies!
Please tour your wildflower garden
I'm pretty sure that that did not work out. I think the deer took care of it.
I've been watching your videos for a very long time and thoroughly enjoyed everything you have made.
Thank you for always sharing
Wow a clean food version of my favorite childhood commercial sweet treats. I haven't has these in years. Thanks Becky - your the best. Where did you find the twinkie pan?
Thank you for sharing. I use the green plastic bag holders, (that you use for your zip locks,) to hold my pastry bags when filling them.
Very impressive! You should try Banana Flips. They aren’t sold anymore but basically they are like a banana cake folded into a taco shape with banana cream filling.
Oh wow! I had forgotten about those! They were wonderful!
Oooooo! I want to try to make some! They were my favorite back in the day. 😋
How fun! They look like the real ones. Perfect job! Thanks for sharing!!
Excellent and thanks for sharing today
Thank-you Becky ..I enjoy watching your videos with my morning coffee .a wonderful way to start the day.. Be well.
The Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies were never favs, homemade versions are definitely something I will try. Cornbread in the hotdog tin would be fun. You could fill treats with your homemade jans....so yummy. How about a Red Velvet Twinkie with a cream cheese filling?
Becky, these are my childhood favorites, and still to this very day, they are my comfort foods.
