@@EversPrimeTime probably a longshot, but the venture bros is a great show. it starts out with some offcolor jokes (early 2000s era adult swim lol) but its honestly one of the best 'parody' type shows and develops awesomely. has a ton of unforgettable characters and great plot lines. if you dont want to watch it on the channel, please at least give it a watch in your free time!

The explanation for the bit near the end about the movie night is that Bojack realized that this was the end of His and Diane's friendship, but we see how far he's come because of how differently he reacts to it compared to all the other relationships he ruins throughout the show. Like the last time he saw Herb would've been that lunch, and Herb was pretty friendly to Bojack even though it was clear he didn't forgive him, but then Bojack pushed his luck and instead it ended in the two of them fighting.
With Diane he's just trying to make the last time they spend together a nice one by trying to tell a funny story. He doesn't argue or refuse to accept it's over. It's nice that one of the last things we see Bojack do in the show is finally trying to end a relationship on a positive note.

Not sure if you know this or not but they were originally gonna have 7 seasons so that could explain why it feels like a few plot lines were wrapped up quickly

    • @Serryy
      @Serryy 6 місяців тому +18

I dont know about 7 seasons specifically. The creator did say, I think, that they had ideas for multiple seasons and just continued the show until Netflix gave them the heads-up. Personally, I do agree that a seventh season was needed, but if they just continued without knowing that this would be the end, there would be the same issue, just one season delayed.

My take on the Pieces of April story is pretty simple-I think BoJack knew this was their last conversation and just wanted it to last a little longer. So he tells a funny story, so that Diane can linger in his life for just a few more minutes.
I mean if there’s one thing we know about BoJack it’s that he’s a good storyteller… I’m joking, that’s maybe the fifth or sixth thing to know about BoJack. But we have seen him do it before. End of season 2 when he convinces Todd to come back with him, it’s by telling him the story of their first morning together. End of season 4, in a flashback, his mother asks him to tell her a story because she’s tired; it’s implied this was a regular occurrence. Same episode, his last gift to Beatrice was to tell her a story about being in Michigan. Telling stories may be one of the only ways he knows to show people he cares, you know?

  • @laddgadfly8147
    @laddgadfly8147 6 місяців тому +30

I think one of the themes the show pushes is the power of stories. BoJack gets Todd out of a cult by telling him a story, BoJack calms down his dementia-afflicted mother with a story, Diane explains why she’s helping BoJack go into rehab with a story, and BoJack gets Diane to finally take antidepressants with a story. As weird as the ending story may seem, this context makes me think it was the perfect choice.

Getting closure with Hollyhock would have been nice. I think the writers are making a point about closure in sitcoms vs reality. We're trained to want to know what that letter is, but in real life sometimes that's all you get.
I've had to decide to cut a couple people in my life out over the years and I ultimately ended up having to be really cold about it. Every time there was an explanation or discussion it was just a window to repeat this cycle of behavior and watch them struggle or use me for support. It felt super shitty to just say: I'm done--then spend a large amount of time ignoring or shutting down contact attempts.

    Thanks for the reactions!
I think season 6 in general sets up that we, the audience, don't know everything about Bojack. We didn't know he waited 17 minutes to call an ambulance for Sarah Lynn. We don't know what Hollyhock's letter said. We don't know if he's gonna fall into his old shitty habits once he gets out of prison. But yeah, it's such a nice, hopeful ending in general. No one's crazy happy, but everyone's trying their best. Bojack's not Fixed, but he's still much more mature than even just a few seasons ago. They're getting there. Life's a bitch and then you keep on living :)

If you're interested, there's still a BoJack Christmas special left. As usual with holiday specials, it isn't very plot-relevant or deep, but it has some decent jokes and it's pretty much the only option for more BoJack we're likely to have, and it kinda annoys me that most reactors on UA-cam skip out on it (though that's partially on Netflix for listing it seperately from the rest of the series).

I was wondering if you've heard of Tuca and Bertie. While it's not directly a Bojack spinoff, it is by the same creator and takes place in the same sort of 'animals as people' universe. It's not nearly as dark but does have a lot of the same sort of humor, and I think it's worth watching for anyone who enjoyed Bojack. bojack's anecdote about prison movie night confuses me too. the closest explanation i can think of is that he's trading one thing for another.
first he had to watch one movie repeatedly, then another. at the beginning of the show he was miserable but had people to "cling" to (pc was his agent/ex-gf, todd was living on his couch, diane was his memoirist/therapist/love interest/friend). now diane is no longer in his life and pc and todd have set some boundaries with him. he still has things he's worried about, like drinking again outside of prison, but he has more purpose and has a better mindset

Also, I recommend watching Moral Orel- It’s a bit akin to Bojack Horseman where it’s a dark comedy that has some really touching elements, it’s also made in clay animation! However it’s pretty juvenile sometimes in the show with its humor, so I’ll give you a heads up there :) I still adore this show though, so I really recommend it!

For a recommendation for another netflix show that was cancelled (because netflix loves cancelling good shows) I'd recommend Midnight Gospel! It's a pretty short watch, only 8 episodes and it has a super unique concept. It's a show made almost entirely using audio from a podcast talking about pretty much anything but usually goes back to life, death, mortality, higher beings, and stuff like that. but in the show it's animated with super trippy visuals and usually leads to weird, slightly disturbing imagery. I think the easiest way to explain it would be if you're watching an episode of Rick and Morty or Smiling Friends (idk only shows I could think of that gets as weird as this show), but during the plot there's someone interviewing a random background character. It's hard to put into words but if you watch the trailer, you'll get it. It's a great watch, I swear!

Oh man, its crazy i always forget how much the finale is still funny after the gut wrenching episode right before. But they still gotta hit us one last time, the fact that their relation simply ends there is a tough pill to swallow but still very understandable, them having one last banter right before the final song plays, and what a song 😮‍💨 you also cant forget PC bossing the industry around with her new husband, wich even tough Juda is extremely professional, i can still see them having a loving relationship. I love too the little "and you turn around" from Todd coming from the Okipoki song too haha but somehow feels profound? I think Todd really found himself during that year, in a good relationship and talking to his parents too, so maybe thats why is whole conversation with Bojack felt so real and a bit weird for our Todd (except if they would just make a joke out of it). And lastly, best of all.. that honeydew man!! This scene got me so much on first watch lol. This really was the best finale i think, (especially with their plan of 7 seasons turning into 6) everyone’s happy and Bojack can have opportunities coming out but he will have to work for it, not all is forgiven and thats pretty much the best case for him, continue working on himself to deserve the chances he’ll get. So happy to have relieved this show with you, this really was a such a nice ride and im excited for whats next 😁

It's definitely not the HollywooB happy ending.
Everyone is adjusting to the new reality and being content in some sense.
Nobody ended up in their vision or goal of happiness when they were younger, but mentally better off.
PC had to sacrifice her independence to some extent but she is with Judah and Ruthie.
Todd's still working through his relationship with mom.
PB grew up like Diane suggested and realises his problem is the same as that of Nolan movies.
Diane trusts someone from no one including herself.
BJ realises he could only know if honeydew is ok or not only after trying it out. He actually can make helpful and supportive comments, as we can see with PC.
The episode is blue themed. Still one can be happy with what they have (when they're privileged enough 😬).

4:15 You can see a billboard on the background to the right promoting the new Fireflame superhero movie. And it looks like Gina Cazador(?) somehow got the lead! Opposite Courtney Portnoy as the villain no less!
That's another side story i'm sad we didn't get to explore (thank you Netflix cancellation), but I'm glad it showed that somehow Gina overcame her trauma probably with Kelsey's support, both being mutual Bojack victims.
Would have loved to see that development, but the end result is still satisfying. Much like Hollyhock, the rest we leave up to imagination.

I think its the only way they could have ended a show like this. The uncertainty of bojacks future, and the healthy boundaries that everyone in the main cast has set throughout this last season all come into play and fully flesh out. It’s hopeful in a way because with these new found boundaries and healthy lives, those. Of the main cast who have become healthier and still chosen to stay in bojacks life in some way will provide him the platform for creating more mature and healthy relationships with others. As in the beginning most of the main cast were as mentally unstable as he was or close to it, meaning their unhealthy habits ping ponged off each other, but now he’s losing that ping pong effect, meaning the burden is now truly on him to start growing with the rest of them.

I feel like this entire episode is bojacks own "View from halfway down." Seeing what things could have been like. The loop around at the start with diane and bojack on the roof as he flatlines is a big hint, but also the fact we dont see anyone Bojack doesn't know. At their own wedding, we don't see Jonah, because bojack hasn't seen him before. We also don't see Guy. It's definitely open to interpretation, but I think they did intentionally leave it open. The final lines of "Lifes a bitch and then you die." And "Lifes a bitch and you keep on living." Are the two paths you can pick from what this episode means.

You should give "Tear Along the Dotted Line" and "This World Can't Bring Me Down" a try. It's essentially season 1 and 2 respectively of the same show (ergo start with Tear Along the Dotted Line), it's based on the comic books of an Italian author who, in turn, based the comics on his own life experience. There's an english dub but honestly I think watching it with subtitles is the way to go - it's just more fun because the author himself is doing the voice acting, he speaks with a Roman dialect, he's a motormouth and it fits the pacing of the show better than the english dub that doesn't carry the same energy, and even though you might end up having to pause to read the subtitles it is ultimately worth it. It's also refreshing to watch a European 'slice of life' theme animation project because it has a distinctly different cultural feel while hitting all the familiar notes that are common to living life anywhere.
It's not as big of a commitment as Bojack but it packs the same punch I think, also I just really think it deserves more attention than it's gotten. I also don't want to spoil anything and suggest going in blind so I'm keeping the details to a minimum.

You know, it’s nice to know there’s some hope for Bojack. Lots of folks leave prison with nothing at all and worse prospects coming out than going in. 1 year is quite generous considering all the moral repugnance we know and don’t know about his past, but hey, being rich can pay for an apparently very good lawyer.
About the episode itself, there was lots of speculation that this ending was the final part of Bojack’s death dream. I personally don’t buy it. I like this ending better, even though it ends on a bit of an anticlimax. Guess that’s the best either of these characters can ask for at this phase in their lives considering their actions and experiences. I do like to think that - in the fullness of time - at some point they would become friends again. They very well could. Diane would come to hate Houston and move to Austin. That’s more her speed.
Anyways, DOESNT THIS SHOW TAKE YOU PLACES?? Isn’t it the best??? You would probably enjoy browsing the Bojack Horseman subreddit. Lots of thoughtful takes and people pointing out Easter eggs, and personal stories about how this show affected them. Keep tissues handy. I hope it’s changed your life for the better and I think this would be a good show to rewatch at some point.
Can’t wait to see the rest of your FMAB stuff as it rolls out.
