Personally I LOVE the message that just because one person is owed an apology doesn't mean the other person is owed forgiveness.
Another great subtle sight gag - Herb's nurse is a 'Care' Bear enjoying these reactions, funny to hear and then see your expectations being subverted. as you say it just doesn't go down the 'traditional' show routes but to places completely unexpected
Fun Fact: Theres a real Secretariat movie. You remember character actress Margo Martindale in that episode where Todds rock opera gets sabotaged? She is part of the cast of the Secretariat movie.
Part spring breakers and also the bling ring, which is based in real teens in LA the burglarized celebrity manaions using social media to track when they wouldn't be home.
I love how they use the F bombs so sparingly and meaningfully, every time an F bomb is dropped, a bond has been teared apart, and it's so beautiful to see adult cartoons, specially a "silly" one like this to be so restrained and mature when it comes to profanity
@@jeffbrehove2614 As much as I'd like to think that's true (because as a gay person I do get gay vibes from her and I think it makes the situation with Herb more complex), I feel like I remember the woman she was speaking of was framed less as a partner and more as a personal caretaker. I'd have to rewatch the episode to remember clearly why I got that impression, but in my memory the woman was a younger person helping Angela out in her old age. That said, if I'm wrong, it DOES add another layer to the Herb firing. It does NOT make it right or okay, but it would highlight the role of successful LGBTQ+ people putting them in a precarious position where they have to choose between solidarity for their community versus keeping their heads down to avoid bigoted scrutiny themselves. Calls into question the responsibility of LGBTQ people with some level of power to support and pave the way for the future of the community, or if that burden is unwarranted. Makes ya think, huh?
Thanks for re-uploading! I did not expect this at all when I watched this show. I had it on in the background on Netflix while working on an art project and I kept wondering what I was missing, because I'd heard all this buzz about it yet it just seemed like a rather run-of-the-mill modern adult animation show to me. Then the very end of the episode before this one ("You are 40!") made me prick up my ears a bit. And then this one dropped. Yikes.
SAME! Though I hadn't heard much about the show.... I just felt there were inklings of something special here and there, and I wanted to give it a try (or two, since I stopped after episode 3 made me super uncomfortable, but the way the show takes it seriously sets it apart from other shows where it'd just be a "funny one-off gag"). Now it's my all-time favorite piece of media
interesting! I dunno if I felt heartbroken so much as disappointed in Bojack and repulsed by how poor Diane must feel. He just re-ruined an important relationship in his life, so in desperation he makes a move on Diane, an engaged friend and employee, making her -- as Herb astutely put it -- a prop so he could feel better. Those guitar chords at the end though.... heart-wrenching and chilling
The simple "Ok, I don't forgive you." line is what's set Bojack Horseman apart as something special for me. Every piece of media ever always goes about how we should forgive others but not this one. There are some acts and people out there that don't deserve to be forgiven.
