    Just want to make a minor correction. The decibel scale is not linear. It's actually exponential. So a shift of 10db = 10 times quieter, 20db = 10^2 times quieter. That second drone is 100x quieter than the first

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  9 місяців тому

      I know and that was taken into account. It was 12x quieter.

    Truly, incredible - SO much quieter. And the sound has a more pleasant quality, too. Amazing!!!! I’d love to make a drone just like this (+ fpv), since the noise externality is a big deal to me and constrains my use a lot, this would help me have many more opportunities to fly.
    Thanks for sharing!! 😃😁

    Very nice 👌
    I've also been building silent drones. What I like are the HQ 4x4x6 props on a typical 5" drone.
    You can also use the hq 5x4x6 props on a typical 7" drone. These motors suit these props pretty well.
    You can also punch these props harder and still stay silent. On the large bi blade props you cant race them in a quiet way. Your formula is large bi blade props on an ultralight build. They are 1504 motors from dji. Dji also uses 5~6 inch props on their mini 2 and 3 drones. You just made them lighter and more silent.
    Great work 👏👍

      these are mini 2 motors. I want to try the mini 3 motors and props as they are about the same weight with about 50% more sweep area.

    This is a concept that needs developing. Very quiet cruising drones. Lovely to scope areas where a noisy drone would draw to much unwanted attention. Added with the inertia would result in little damage if it crashed

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  2 роки тому

      the motors are susceptible to damage, but the rest of the drone is nearly bulletproof to a typical crash.

      Solar powered is difficult. 100% solar VTOL is about 200 times harder. I only know of one other time it has been successfully done.

    great video i love how quiet it is thats always a high concern for me too.....and thank you for replying to other people it helps me to try to duplicate it but a parts build list would of been better for a beginner like me............Again Propzzz

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  2 роки тому +1

      No problem. I forgot that I posted this drone on RotorBuilds you can find most of the parts list there. I did make some modifications to the drone after I posted it on there like the 1s-2s capable flight controller/esc combo, the new props, and modifying the frame for weight.
      rotorbuilds.com/build/25613
      The build is a bit more difficult when it comes to both building and tuning, so I would be careful when doing it as a first drone.

      Biggest key was the DJI mini 2 motors. I then used a 2-in-1 flight controller/esc- the brand isnt really important, but it must be rated for both 1 and 2s lipo if you want to use li-ion and the full voltage range. The frame was a hyperLite UL5 with the thickness shaved from 5mm down to about 3mm for weight reduction. The rest of the gear really isnt important, but with every part I focused on getting the one with the least weight.

    Interesting prop pitch increase.

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  5 місяців тому +1

      Yes, a higher pitch reduces RPMs and the tip speed, which decreases noise.

    • @Celtic-Films
      @Celtic-Films 5 місяців тому

      Yes AOA, Angle of Attack. I wonder if tip noise is vortex related.@@austinsmith9413

    This build is awesome! If i could get similar noise level carrying a DJI O3, that would be my dream cinema quad. Over here in Europe they fine you if you breathe loud.
    Do you think it’s possible? Or those components are too heavy?
    Have you tested it in a bit windy day? Would be still usable?
    Sorry for the 1000 questions I’m just excited to finally see a quad which would not wake up the whole neighborhood every time i fly.

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  9 місяців тому

      It could handle 20mph wind if you really need it to. These motors will comfortably lift up to about 300 grams, so it would pretty easily lift a DJI 03. The extra weight will affect flight time, performance, and hovering noise levels though.

      Never found anything comparable. Everything else is too heavy and has too high of an rpm. Motors can be purchased from ebay for about $20 a piece.

    How did you modify your props? Seems like finding the ideal prop for this low RPM low thrust high diameter high efficiency setup would one of the bigger challenges to overcome, since it’s not as charted territory and aerodynamics be complicated to predict what’s gonna work best. Being able to adjust the pitch sounds super useful to dial any prop in tho.

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  2 роки тому +1

      I legitimately took the propellers and by hand bent them to a higher pitch. I was very carefull to keep the pitches of all the blades very close to the same. I also drilled out pieces of the propeller hub so they could be used with the DJI motors.

    Hey Austin in RotorBulids you mentioned you build a 4s1p battery and then a 4s2p. I believe 4s means 4 cells what does 1p and 2p means?

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  Рік тому

      4s refers to 4 series, or 4 cells in series. The P refers to parallel. So 2p would mean it has two cells in parallel. So for example, if you are using 3000mah li-ion cells in a 3s4p configuration, your pack would have 11.1v 12,000mah.

    Great video. How was the processing or tunning these motor. I heard it is hard to tune Mavic mini motors.

    • @austinsmith9413
      @austinsmith9413  2 роки тому +1

      I don't remember all I had to do. I'm not great at tuning and am not super picky, so a pro might hate the tune. Getting the drone to simply fly was no harder than any other drone far as the tune goes. If I remember correctly the "floppy" blades do create a little lag in the total feedback loop which had to be compensated for. This was primarily seen when flying with a lighter battery in low ground effect causing a slight wobble. I don't remember what I did to fix it, but I was able to tune it away.
