I wish more men realised how insanely sexy this is in a man. He knows her, he listens to her, he comforts, he tells her what she needs to hear, he's built trust with her, he makes small sacrifices for her and he waits to try to fix it when she makes it clear that she's not ready to have it fixed.
As I watch this series more and more, I realize he always wanted her. At any moment, if she had given him the green light, he would have dropped everything to be with her. Season 5, episode 2 pretty much confirmed that.
@@stevenssteve2909 That's what I will never understand about that show. Those two were meant to be together since the pilot episode. Everyone was rooting for those two. But once they got the two of them together they tried to split them up as soon as they got together. And bringing April onto the show was the stupidest thing the show did. Who's brilliant idea was that. All they had to do when they finally got the two of them together was have them have the twins Lorelai had in her dream a boy and a girl. So Luke could have named his son William after his dad. And we could have watched the twins growing in Lorelai and we would have been with them through all the prenatal things and with Luke to. Then we could have saw the birth of the twins and watching Luke get up at 2:00 in the morning to change the twins diapers. Because he was Luke he would have let Lorelai sleep. Then on the series finale it could have been a 2 hour episode having Luke, Lorelai, and Rory planning the big town wedding and Buddy could have been Luke's best man and Richard could have walked Lorelai down the isle. And Rory was going off to start her career in journalism. End of story everyone happy.
And there are many, but this does show the level of commitment he has for her. Time after Time, he is there for her. With advice, money, and support . She knows also how much he loves RORY, which bonds them ALL together. Well written characters.
This moment felt like such a turning point in them falling in love - not just because he proves to be her rock in the storm, but more so because this is the moment Lorelai changes as a person. Before starting a business, I think Lorelai genuinely never saw the point of marriage and partnership. She was so fiercly independent and she could do it all, so there was no need for a partner. But as Rory leaves and her workload increases, she comes to feel differently about it, which finally makes room for a real relationship (with Luke) to develop.
I love that Luke is basically all those things for her. Not exactly, but still. Someone to pick up the slack-check Someone to wait for the cable guy-even thought he doesn't necessarily do that, he does fix her house (you know what i mean) Someone to make her coffee in the morning-check (granted she still has to pay for it, but still Someone to meet the stupid sink before it gets sent back to Canada-while he doesnt do this exact thing, Lorelai has had packages sent to Luke's dinner before therefore he is there to get her packages *content sigh* i do love a good convoluted explanation once in awhile
when lorelei says “i like my house, i like my tv, my life....etc “ it’s a parallel from season one when she’s studying for business school and says “so what if i never run my own inn? i like my job, i like my house, i like my life!” kind of interesting
After watching the whole series, looking at it now makes me understand why luke waited so long to ask her out.. She was a mess and he wasn’t, he Understood that she needed to figure things on her own, even in this episode she was too uptight to ask for help that when she finally did, she did in tears. I love them both but i always admired this in luke, the way that he comfort her without stepping in for help because he knew that it’s HER journey even tho it hurts. In my opinion Luke is underrated.
And again... he's always there for her no matter what, always believing she can do everything, always encouraging her, cheering her up!! Definitely everyone needs a Luke in their life ❤️🍀
It is really incredible how much money Luke seems to have. Later in another episode he acquires the space next to his diner. And buys a building that he was going to lease an apartment in. All he does is run a diner for a living. But he seems to have over a quarter of a million in property. Inheritance? Life insurance from his Dad?
@@arialifeless yes, but when Jess buys a car , he told Lorallie that he doesn't know how Jess can afford to buy it, because he himself can't afford to buy a car with the amount of money he makes at the diner.
I think he has a decent salary and money to spare, but is the kind of guy who makes a really strict budget for himself, and just puts the rest in savings. Whenever something super important comes up (like him buying an apartment or loaning money to Lorelai, bc, he’s crazy in love with her) he uses whatever he can. Also probably some inheritance and I don’t think he has a lot of insurance claims bc he’s not materialistic in any sense of the word.
reading numerous comments before this one - credit actually goes to lorelai - see, no one gets the support, comfort, understanding they need if they can't communicate what they need to the people around them - I love that this entire series, Lorelai particularly (although most of the cast at various points) were very good about choosing when (and to whom) to break down so that they could get the emotional (and occasionally material) support they needed WHEN they needed it - Luke is a great guy, no doubt - but he would never have known that Lorelai needed help if she hadn't allowed herself to be vulnerable at some level so that he could see it and KNOW that she needed it - we all need, somebody, to lean on...
If they do, I really hope that they redeem Rory’s character. While other characters developed during the show’s run, she basically regressed and was unlikeable during A Year Life in the Life.
That was the writers they completely changed what little character he had left even before they brought in April. April destroyed Gilmore Girls and Luke and Lorelai. When Lorelai slept with Christopher they never felt the same way after that even though they got married in the revival.
When will you people realize the writers made him that way. The man's loved that woman since the day they met Luke would have never treated her that way unless the writers made his character treat her that way.
I really don't know how Lorelai EVER thought she'd have enough money to do this on her own. I mean does Sookie even contribute any money? But lets be real Lorelai, you couldn't get a loan to treat the termite damage on your house, how did you expect to be able to buy an inn? I mean they probably got a pretty good deal once Fran passed away they probably got a pretty good deal and she had the leftover money from Richard (if she was really serious about the inn she should have used all of the money for that but I guess they still thought they couldn't get that since Fran hadn't died yet). She really was hopelessly unrealistic about all this.
Sookie kinda made me mad, like bad things would happen and she would run to Loralie and make her take care of it all. And they both didn't tly understand how much money it would take and time.
@@katieanne7450 That's a good point but also they had the separation of duties that Lorelai handles running the inn and Sookie handles the kitchen. During the construction that mean Lorelai handles basically everything. But yes they were both hopelessly unrealistic and clearly neither had the savings that would've been necessary.
That's what happens when people try to renovate houses on their own. They think they got the money and more problems comes up and try to fix it on their own. It happens all the time.
