- It's so simple, and a lot of players do it naturally. But lifting two feet off of the ground is something that we can easily incorporate in our game as another tool in the arsenal. Check out why and how it is done.

I love it, it's amazing for transitions and change of pace
i deadass have no idea who you are, but your everywhere i go, guess you aint just a minecraft youtuber
wtf you play basketball?
What the hell? You play Basketball?
In tennis, we do what's called a "split step" for similar reasons. Never liked split stepping as a kid, but noticed I was doing the "lift" in basketball and then realized why it was important to do in tennis too (mainly increase max static friction & better explosion).
It's also quite common in boxing, wrestling and volleyball or just any sport where quick bursts of motions are needed
Changed my game immediately. I’ve worked all summer to get my handle right, and I’ve had good footwork but I never knew how to really create space. You can do so much with this movement. If you can read the defender and you see him about to jump ahead to cut you off, you can cross it over into a pull up, straight drive to the lane, and etc. game changer right here! Good video!
"so simple but also so effective" truth.
I've always just done this, but never thought it was a big deal 🤔
That's natural talent, when you hoop enough.
This is one of the rhythmic things which can disappear when you get nervous and tight. With it you can keep the defense guessing. Without it you don't move into any motion smoothly and the defense will see it quicker. Gotta have bounce to get the slight quickness to get apart from defenders.
This is some attention to detail. Never noticed this technique before
@@0XxBesTofTheRestxX0 facts!
isn't it a hanging hesi? there seems to be some differences though so cool stuff
@@ByAnyMeansBasketball who uses it the most?
Who uses it most effectively?
🤔
@@willhooke Kemba is pretty damn good at it
if you're a guard or someone who van handle the ball well, you probably do this without even noticing, I didn't even notice it until I watch this video, this would help beginners for sure..even us who uses it already, at least we can improve this technique more to be more effective on the court💯
This may be the biggest ball handling secret of all time. I'm 42 years old, never had a great handle, and ever since I've incorporated this, I'm now getting to the hoop and open jumpers consistently.
Thanks!
I've noticed this a lot in Durant's dribbles.
Yeah
His lanky ass legs make it a bit more obvious :]
Yeah
Yeah
Yeah
Best basketball technique channel in the world
2:06, 💪🏾🤾🏾♂️🙏
Pure Genius.
My Bag now Appreciates your wisdom! Thanks Big HOMIE
Real appreciate you point this out, bring back the fundamental skills.
I always use this as a precursor move as I'll always be ready to explode whenever I land. Great breakdown as always.
💯💯💯 on point. Per the channel name, this breaks down the hesi into such an important detail. Understanding this and getting it down levels you your ballhandling up by so much, it's ridiculous. I used to call this "floating" and when I first noticed how much of a difference this made to my hesi, it changed my game so much. You get by defenders easier, you make reads better, you feel bouncier, and just feel better just in general. You LOOK and play like a natural and better ball handler in general. If you can master multiple moves out of this, you can get hella creative and effective.
This channel mad underrated, such a good basketball channel ong🤝
Best of YT
love your stuff man!! been following you from time!
can u do vids where you tell us when you should use certain moves, sometimes i feel like i have a full bag but i dunno how to use it
Beautiful, details love it keep the content coming ⛹️♂️⛹️♂️
Definitely will put this in my bag!
Very good video i need to practice this in the different ways you explained.
I need a workout about this. Nice video.
I love this channel.
Great stuff bro.🙏🏼
You sir are the man !
simply beauty💕.
Very underrated like your way of teaching
🔥🔥🔥💪🏾💪🏾 good work
Lol doesn’t even got a like
where you been howard
We need that heat bro
I love this technique😍
Coleman with another banger
Awesome vid!!
Great stuff!
Thanks! i find it very informative and helpful :>
THIS is an amazing breakdown! I've been playing for decades and honestly learning this completely changed how I moved with the ball. Lifting/hesi/repositioning feet is a huge fundamental in dribbling that honestly nobody teaches. Great for putting this in so succinctly. You can make an ENTIRE series out of this (e.g.: Lift into a layup, lift into a jumper) and I would watch them ALL! Thanks again!
Hey man, I love the content. Could you please put up drills to practice this move? How to get better at it with or without ball? I find it hard to control it...
more of this type of vid pls
Best basketball channel
You the 🐐 ‼️🔥
Thanks man♥️✌🏼✌🏼
Options a good thing. 👍
A.I mastered this also💯
Never disappoints
I started doing this last time when I was at the gym naturally.. it just feels right for movement, especially lateral movement. And you can fake like youre gonna go left or right with a crossover.. and allows you to get more explosion. I didn't know what to call it or search. guess "the lift" works
wow..... gotta get in the lab and work on this
Most simple and effective set up move
I do this subconsciously a lot as I do a lot of hesi’s but never realised how useful it was
Damn never knew this glad I watched it
Would love to see more mental side of the game like the nervousness video
Yo I like the Molton ball! Great vid!
Used to see Jamal Crawford do this shit all the time. I've heard it call a float instead though.
Yeah , i like to call it a float too, but anyways it’s definitely one of my go-to moves due to how simple yet effective it can be
@@self-madejacobo8281 yeah, any hesitation really. I haven't played ball in so long so I probably can't do anything now lol. Old age ain't helping either.
Float is a good name too!!
Its a skill noone teach but can be learned over time
This happens for me naturally. I watched a different video on MJ’s “pocket dribble” and he did this a ton. Its alil different from a hang hesitation which you can do more upright and do a head fake for a shot. This here is more like to fake a drive in a certain situation. In my opinion the best way to guard this is to cut off the off hand and do a fake reach to get them the offensive player to do one last protect dribble to throw off their timing. That should get u back in position to either make a play on the ball, or stay tight enough to disrupt the gather when do start their layup. Every milli second counts. Last thing i would this is good to do on defense as well if your switching your top foot. I do that alot because most people attack the top foot. But if i keep changing they have to think more about their move. The whole time that dribble is live
They do this in volleyball receiving as well,, I think they call it a split step. Awesome video!
Nah it's the splatter step :]
after having an achilles tendon rupture (>1 year post op), can this and the "hinging forward" thing still apply to me?
Can u plz do a video on Demar Derozan’s development as he’s recording career high in assists and an extremely efficient scorer. Possible trade destinations?
They do this in tennis too,
And you can do this off-ball when your about to receive a pass in the paint to give your self more options and explosiveness if you call for the ball when your in the air
how do i do this while making sure i don't travel?
do i need to dribble right after i land or something?
Can you do another ball handling workout or a pick and roll workout at home
Bro facts
this move overpowered trust me
LARRY BIRD BREAKDOWN WOULD BE DOPE
This is called the Split Step in tennis, for the same exact reasons you mentioned.
When you do the lift does it have to be really fast?
gem
nice. i don't think i do this unconsciously i'll try it next time i step on a court
can you explain what the diffrent between lift and up & down
Tanks for
I love doing this into a hezi or a cross
🔥🔥
Lift workout coming soon?
This is pure gold 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Essentials
It’s kinda like a hesitation, you can use the lift with any move crossover hesi step back, definitely will use this
Is this the same as hang hesitation?
Hey, I’m a young hopper and I was wondering if you could make a video of getting your shot off in traffic.
Gret video
Two important details are the pocket dribble and Drop Stance. I'd heard about the Drop Stance before but now that i'm preparing for a Camp where i'm gonna coach Ballhandling i can see that it is the foundation to all dribbling. Everything starts with a Drop Stance, the set ups vary and the reads vary depending on players and defense.
so effective, if you are a smaller guard with explosive athletism like John Wall or Westbrook, you're basically miles step away from defenders
i thought it just looked cool haha, and every time i did that i sensed i had some time to handle a little better
whats the difference between this and a hesi
I know the importance of this thing but also i have seen some good coaches on instagram saying that is also good to keep your feet on the ground as it allows you to not lose any time when you explode in a move
The old school view of things. Try both. You’ll see what works more
@@ByAnyMeansBasketball for sure man, i have tried both and i find them both good in different situations
YESSSIR
can you do a video on movment like internally roatimg hips acceleration at angles and decleration
Are you talking about hip rotations or hip swivels
Is this skip foot work?
The clip at 1:05 to 1:14. It looks like he takes 3 steps without dribbling before the layup, isn't that travelling? And the same from 2:27 to 2:31? Please, Id like to know because I want to play correctly...
I do this like every time I get the ball and don’t even realize this😂
Dude. Immanuel Quickley
Tenis player do that every time the received the ball. To react quickly.
Is this what kemba does?
Feels like Lavine walks on air sometimes
i rolled my ankle watching this video
Fucking gem. Wow.
💥💥🏀🏀
many old-timers think that's a travel smh... At least in post-Soviet Union countries, so growing up in such env gives you lotta mental blocks not doing so, however it is indeed peculiar detail that changes the game a lot. Also adds some swag to your game if you feel the rhythm well)
Most ball players naturally do this without thinking, especially during a hesitation dribble..
why don't you do a jump higer workout? or something similar
One workout won’t get you jumping higher. It’s a long, detailed process
ive always done this but they always call jump foul or travel
Your mouth is filled with truth
Isn't that just a part of hesi step?
Thats something 2k cpus like to do a lot. Usually a free steal for me xD
question, wouldn't this technically be a travel if both feet are off the ground?
No, you are allowed to do that as long as you are still dribbling
its called jump and oponent team get the ball if you do that.
