I know Patti tore it up. But Diana's vocal performance on that first verse is pure perfection. Sounds like it could have been her song. And she was apparently a little hoarse or tired.
She actually flew in a little late by jet from a concert she had. It explains the hoarseness (which added a unique texture to her voice- I liked it). I think people have Diana confused. Diana asked for help and Patti obliged. God gave her the gift and she uses it to the fullest. ❤
Love this!!! Diana in true diva fashion showed up late and didn’t know the song! 😂😂. Then they cut Patti’s Mike!!! Man I wish shows like this where actual artists got up and actually SANG!!!!!
diana and patti, both my favorite singers
patty is so SO iconic
I love how Stevie was crying behind his ray-ban's and I did a head count more than 1/2 of those performers are dead now...where is the talent?
yeah. god bless. george michael rocked!
Mr Funky I know you meant no harm but can I get through one video without being reminded George Michael is no longer alive I already know I am not that deluded I just do not need to think about it or be reminded 24/7
There was a silent rivalry between Patti and Diana. Diana, I think is bigger star than her but the moment when Patti came in, she blew them all. She really showed what she's made of.
Emmanuel Lewis was like "ms Patti umm you know I'm really not a kid right" lmao
HAHAHAHA right!? I'm dead
poor guy was FOURTEEN at the time. I'm dead.
patti's voice is untouchable even now. Jesus.
4:25 Stevie was so happy to be with his Motown family at The Apollo. He was crying.
That place is special to everybody that was on Motown during 1962-1966
Man, they all sounded great! Patti and El DeBarge crushing it, Diana Smooth as silk.👌
Patti's glissando is iconic.
Asking for Patti's help was the best decision Diana ever made in her life 😍
Don't forget Diana also helped herself to one of Patti's singers back in the 60"s
Patti is literally the best singer to me. Man this was incredible ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Patti was untouchable and she still is ❤
The gorgeous George Michael. A great voice, and that beautiful hair I always wished I had!
Patti is a force of nature . She made this, when she started singing everybody got up cause a voice like that deserves a standing ovation. El dabarge has a beautiful voice
Diana Ross deserved a standing ovation so talented and beautiful. But Patti presence and beautiful voice made the crowd jump up. U got to stand to Patti's heavenly voice and stature
They stood for patti
It's a damn shame when Patti started sing they all stand up
Joseph Collins #theshadeshallsetyoufree.
Joseph Collins ok standing ovation
Then Jesse Jackson (while holding Webster) whispers something in Diana Ross' ear and the next time we see Patti the mic she was holding has been replaced by Webster. They was some DL shady boots. Lol
the editing is so bad, they actually started standing after Patti sung. If you notice when they start standing she is holding Emmanuel Lewis, she was not holding him when singing.
😂😂🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
Come on PATTI!!!!!
this song is Hymn for eternity
I've only recently seen this I didn't know it existed. I knew Patti could sing but when I heard this Patti has a powerful voice and absolutely flawless. That woman has God given talent. And Debarge sounds freaking awesome
@Chuck Simpson: It comes from Motown 25.
Patti Labelle was denied so much back then. But she is not a game. No one up on that stage could touch her.
Actually, if you look at it, Diana did motion for Patti to come over and gave her space to light up the crowd. I'm glad I took the time to watch it again and did more that listen to Ms. Ross and relive Patti in her glory.
They both sang beautifully, LaBelle got the voice of the century.
pure black excellence on this stage
Nothing is wrong with this as I have noticed that Diana made a gesture to Patti for her to come closer. So thats what patti did. Im very sad when this incident was made a big issue back then.
+Nino John Nuez Exactly! Really delusional. Ross detractors love instigating drama.
Diana said she had to rush over there and looked tired. Her voice sounded hoarse and she didn’t look like she was in the best condition to sing. I just don’t think she felt like it. So she asked for help and Patti obliged.
This was made a big issue ?
@@quidddaboss1061 , oh yeah. Back then Patti was accused of upstaging everyone and stealing the spotlight from Diana. Even her hometown newspaper, Philadelphia Inquirer, made a not so nice comment about the finale as well as the Live Aid finale.
Renzo Dayvon that’s crazy because it looked like Diana wanted Patti to sing. She came and changed the whole format or melody of the song for the moment. The band had to accommodate her talent and she got everyone out there seat so for it to be a problem shocked me.
Patti simplesmente chegou e falou eu não nasci para coro....nasci para ser a estrela maior kkkkkk...essa mulher e um búfalo correndo livre sentindo a liberdade quando começa a cantar!!!
Just another masterpiece from the 80's. Patti was just on another level and is one of my favorite artist!!!!
Knowing what love truly is, is loving God, His son Jesus, and His Holy Spirit.
God richly blessed me with a beautiful woman 39 years ago. He joined us together in marriage. We are deeper in love now than ever.
We so enjoy listening to the 70s & 80s music. Especially this song while out cruising in the exotic speed machine I bought her a few months ago, simply because I love her, respect her, and really like her. Its amazing that she still looks hotter than her car, and I don't mind that kind of problem! She is timeless!
On top of that we have 7 adult children and our 5th grandchild due soon. I am the most blessed man alive!!!!!
Patti like ''bitch this is what I do'' when she screamed over Diana lol
Diana is a class act. She handed Patti the mic becuz she new Patti would go crazy and she wud neva(could neva) have time 4 that mess! Fr fr💯
You are correct she a classy hoe lol
atti LaBelle is a vocal beast- her instrument is just not from this world- so outstanding
Patti Labelle can outsing all of our faves!!
Absolutely 😂😩
Mariah... Whitney 😔🤫
don't think so - she can scream out all of our favorites, you mean.
Damn Patti! Pipes for days!!
The real legends of music
It's all calm and breezy till Patti open her mouth. Lord have mercy...
Anyway, Emmanuel Lewis singing is so cute here
Ms. Patti Labelle's part is life🙌🏿 Ms. Patti showed Diana Ross, who the " Boss" is, & showed her what good, strong, beautiful sangin sounds like😉👌🏿I love Ms. Patti Labelle, then & now😘always have, always will💕
When they show Mr. Stevie wonder with tears running down his face, I get a lil misty🙂
Monique Brown
Remember Diana was the Hostess of the show and Diana showed her the door 🚪 Diana has enormous larger fans base than ms Patti cake and Diana sold millions of more record's than Patti cake 🍰 just 🤔 glance the Billboard chart's in the 60' 70'80'90's. And I'm sure that you saw Ms Ross with Beyonce on tour wishing Beyonce a happy birthday 🎂 because Beyonce did the same for her..2023/2024. Now where's Patti cake (sitting in some kitchen baking some more pie 🥧 and soaking her pipes) Diana is on tour around the world 🌎🌍 and loving it...
Patti, Strongest And Best Voice On Stage Hands Down ●♡●♡●♡●◇●
I read somewhere years ago that Patti's impromptu performance here inspired her television special not long afterwards. I think it was the next year. . .
That's true, tv bigwigs were there that night and they thought she was the start of a new generation of "Super Singers" so they gave her a show
I know Patti tore it up.
She is a very competent and creative singer. Beautiful tone, distinguishable voice that no one can duplicate. People that try to sound like her can never nail it. It only comes off as clownery.
That’s ok Patti was hoarse too and cracked on that, sounds like she needed to cough before she tried all that
@@jak30341 Maybe she did, but it sure does sound good to me.
@@AlkalineInsides Surely does. I imitated her singing and speaking voice a lot around my siblings as a kid. Never can match the quality of her voice, though.
YES! LOVE THEM BOTH BUT DIANA´S TONE IS MAGIC
Ms. Patti was just showing them what sangin is😉👌🏿Ms. Patti Patti be sangin, I love her🙌🏿
auntie patti got on her conqueror helmet slayin the vocals
Nobody beats Patti live.
In record sells, yes..all day.
But live singing, not a chance!
@@eumelaniniam3781 There are some artists that have a magic a recording just doesn't do justice to. Buddy Guy is a whole religious experience live, but his albums just don't capture that same magic.
The Conquerer Helmet tho. 💀💀💀
I love this...Gotta love Auntie Diana and Auntie Patti!
I am so happy when big names gather at the Appollo, because they do not forget their roots. Thank you Patti
Who's that cute boy at the stage?
What cute boy ?

Continue to shine bright to all the Legendary singers who passed away.
