There are bad places that will use the gas cap problem to drain you out of money and recommend all kinds of repairs. Great tip to have the gas cap pressure checked and see if their are leaks in the lines or tank, before making any major repairs. It’s a blessing the guy went to your place for an easy fix.
We have an all black 2006 limited w/200k km that looks like it just left the lot. The paint job is spectacular!! Even the inside is immaculate for it's age! ....unless you look at the frame which looks like it just left the Rust Application Factory:)
One thing I think of when I see these bumpers is the effect of small deer etcetera is rather than absorbing the impact by deforming, like the factory bumper and mounts, it will bend the frame rails knocking alignment off at the least and stranding you at the most. Texas and New Mexico have a lot of these small deer. Tagged one on the freeway at 50 mph at night with my 94 4x4 and the damage was only cosmetic - grill, headlight, bumper and mount clips. Drove it to Houston and back home to Albuquerque before seeing the body shop.
Good Time To Replace With A Nice Stant Locking Gas Cap. Stant Makes The Best Aftermarket Caps And The locking Type is Even Better For Protection . Yes They Make Them For Toyota I Always Use Them On My Toyotas 👍
Cool video 😎 I think this gen was dismissed bc it is much larger than the 3rd gen and not as "aggressive" looking as 5th gen. Landcruiser Prado underneath, tho - awesome rig!
@@BAD_CONSUMER i agreed back in 2010, but the "angry tough guy" look of everything has been thoroughly played out and isn't aging well. That said, 4th gen benefits massively from proper lift/tire
I had a 2006 4Runner with the 2UZ-FE V8 about 5 years ago. I never had a check engine light, but I had the same problem with the fuel cap. I replaced it with one from eBay or Amazon.
Rugged front bumper but it gets in the way of much of the up-front engine maintenance. I'd imagine it might even be necessary to remove it for timing belt, water pump and various other random services.....? Got a kick out of your comment, "Your cap is kaput!"
Wow. That bumper could push a burned-out Russian tank off the road if the rest of the vehicle were up to the task. Seems a bit overkill, unless it's being used for some specialized work...

When I bought my 2003 model used it tripped the PO420 code, I had a passenger side exhaust manifold cracked so there wasn't enough exhaust gases getting to the catalytic converter and the O2 sensor. Thus tripping the code. I found a mechanic that could remove and weld up the cracked manifold. The code has been gone for over a year now.
@@LoneScout1 cracked manifolds are a common fix. We diagnose them all the time at my work. It will cause a cat efficiency code because it will cause an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor. That means that the air to fuel ratio that the upstream O2 sensor is reading will not be accurate. If it's a big enough exhaust leak, it causes the P0420 and P0430. Muffler shops can repair cracks in exhaust manifolds if they are still good. Hope this helps
@@LoneScout1 sketchy? the V8 4runners have a common problem with manifolds cracking . I saw the cracks, smelled the exhaust coming in through the vents and heard the valves ticking from that side. The original manifolds had already been replaced with aftermarket ones when I bought the truck. I'm the 3rd owner. Nothing sketchy going on here...
Toyota Maintenance, did you cover all the 3 codes? Are they just the gas cap. I have P0456, and another mechanic said that the canister needs to be replaced. Canister located near top of driver side tire.

I have a 2003 V-8 that was experiencing the same issue until I swapped out the gas cap. Very capable and reliable truck.

All of my vehicles have "keyed" locking gas caps. I've been a victim of people trying to steal gas even before I bought my 2003 Tacoma brand new!

2003 is the only year with two tone fender flares, the V8 version is bullet proof.

Are the caps to click ? I have 09 tundra it doesnt click but i make sure its tight. Can you lube caps ? My check engines on so i checked the cap .

I have 2007 Lexus gx470 traction, and engine light on. Replace oem EGR vacuum solenoid and oem fuel cap . Problem still there. Any body got ideas?

My GF has a 2001 4Runner and had an evap code. The gas cap was just one click away from being sealed.
