Seymour Duncan: Mark Holcomb Scarlet and Scourge
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- Mark Holcomb’s musicality continues to push progressive metal forward. The sound of Scarlet & Scourge was inspired by his use of high-gain amp-modeling technology. With his modeler delivering Periphery’s ideal overdriven amp sound, Mark’s new pickups required enhanced clarity for complex chord voicings, coil splitting, and drop tunings. Through rigorous testing, Mark & the Seymour Duncan engineering team created the Scarlet neck and Scourge bridge pickups. Like Mark’s other signature neck pickup Alpha - which is suited for Mark’s heaviest riffs - Scarlet features a ceramic magnet, but with an output calibrated for note definition in clean & mid-gain applications. The Scourge, with its Alnico 8 magnet, provides the low-end and focused mid-range needed to anchor Mark’s modern sound.

Didn't see that one coming....glad to see mark evolving he deserves the recognition
Wax Wings is a top 5 Periphery song. So cool that making these pickups inspired it!
I got two Jackson Misha Pro Series guitars and put these pickups in them. This is becoming my favorite set of pickups, the characteristic is so unique and clear. It's like as low output as a modern metal pickup can be. Stringy, metallic, but mean and powerful. I'm planning on putting more in other guitars
Not only do I need these pickups, I need the new PRS Holcomb guitars too. Sounds so good.
I bought one a few weeks ago, 10/10
Been waiting on mine to get shipped for a month. I ordered his 7 string guitar and it says it’s still on back order.
I got the new seven string back in february, it's my favorite PRS SE of all time.
I saw one of these guitars in my local shop yesterday and can assure you that it looks FAR better in person. Sounds excellent too but that’s par for the course for PRS and Seymour Duncan
I can’t wait to buy this guitar
‘Twas looking for a guitar cover yet alas, brought me here
Where you’re just flexing to no end. Best of luck and good day my fellow jester
They look awesome!
I have the new mark Holcomb signature seven string guitar from PRS. It sounds amazing and professional 😊
finally the 7th and 8th string clarity i need !!!
Yes!!! Sign me up for a piece of that!!!
Whelp…time to get out the soldering iron
This is like a huge middle finger to bare knuckle 🤣, i have to admit tho the polymath set is just over the top for everything.... it's like magic and Mark's new set seems to be very damn close
How do they still not have quick connect
@@spectre3492 good point actually especially considering they just made that crazy Bluetooth switch
@@Professional.Bro.777 that’s good to know because I haven’t tried Bareknuckles yet but the polymaths are the ones I’ve got my eyes on
Yessiirr hahaha
Getting these installed
Would've been cool to hear the pickup a little bit
Please please please release these passives in active mount. I had to custom order my Alpha Omega set to replace my old soapbar pickups last time around...
Great idea!
Iv been wanting to get one of his prs for a while now… I think this might be the one this year.
They're great guitars. Punch way above their price range, especially when you consider that they have these pickups in them. I have the 6- and 7-string versions w/the Alpha and Omegas.
Would've been nice to hear a demo of these pickups from Mark here rather than a playthrough.
fr... "buy my pickups bc they are gud..."
Sweetwater is almost outta stock folks! I just ordered my 7 string neck Scarlet model right meow. Already rocking the Omega.
rip
3:56 Actually the vast majority of the world can’t get it from the Duncan website because they only ship to the US
Sweetwater is your next best bet. They're shipping it to me in Canada.
@@MckinleyDjents bro he is talking about VAST majority of the world 💀
Anyone knows how the low end sounds as to 7 string version(especially bridge pickup)?
Some said it was more traditional sounding so it is muddier than contemporary metal pickups such as bkp. However in this video Mark mentioned it was aimed for clarity and could get articulation of 6 strings, is it true?
What is their tuning ?
great product and video
Now Jake just needs to do the same thing that Misha and Mark have done, heavy and well articulated pickups and right in your face, heavier pickups
Jake has new pickups coming. They’re in his new JB9999 signature
@@CrzyWzrd4L oh shit that’s awesome, thanks for the update
Do they come with some of that talent...or is that a custom shop item?
It’s custom shop but they don’t accept money, only study and hrs of practice. They have a sign on the door that says time spent mindlessly noodling does not count as practice.
Haha, made us laugh.
A Les Paul guy that's Never been into PRS guitars before but because of Mrak, I probably should get an SE.
When are these going to be in stock in EU
I got em. And i love. What i dont love is my soldering work hahaha
which one alnico/which 1 ceramic?
in conclusion is, which one do I choose If I wanna play aggresive chords but also wanna maintain notes clarity? Omega or Scourge?
The Alpha and Omega are already very clear and aggressive(I have them in my 7 strings) I don't know how he could have improved them tbh already phenomenal sig pickups
@@jessegolden23 yeah I have both Alpha and Omega 6 and 7 loaded older Holcomb models and I’m interested in hearing these. I loved the Omega bridge but not crazy about the Alpha neck. I guess he was going for more clarity at the time, but I found them a little harsh and trebley sounding. When I switch to a neck I like a little fatter warm sound. From what I heard the Scarlet is supposed to be a more traditional warmer sounding neck pickup than the Alpha.
Honestly you can achieve that with either the Omega or Scourge, but there's some differences there that may or may not work better for you depending on your situation. For example, are you using a modeler? If so, Mark specifically designed and voiced the Scourge to work with a modeler by having a little less output and a sound that works a bit more cohesively with high-gain modeler settings. Also if you are a fan of coil-split tones and like that kind of clarity and response you get when using coil-splitting, the Scourge is designed for that particularly. It's got an Alnico 8 magnet in there which is favored a lot by players who like the ceramic magnets and alnico V magnets but want a bit more of a focused low end and midrange, an a less harsh response in the upper-mids. I'd say if you're looking for your pickup to drive the front of your amp harder and be a bit more aggressive, then the Omega is probably the way to go. Otherwise, if you want a bit less push from the pickup itself and a bit more of that clarity and midrange-y sound and let the amp do most of the heavy lifting in terms of gain and aggression, then the Scourge would be a solid choice.
@@nvmbrsdoom5 good info!
@@nvmbrsdoom5 Thanks for the enlighment dawg!!! I take it that the Scourge suits more for modern metal, like a bit more than the Omega already does, which is what am into.
Repping old school Enslaved whilst busting out killer riffs, what a chad.
Hello everything is fine! do you know which capacitor this guitar has in the tone?
Hopefully they make 8 string version for my new dance crustcore project.
Can someone please tell me what song is being played in the background at 3:00 minutes?
Periphery - Atropos
@@blotsmusic Almost broke my neck listening to that tune. Thank you sir!
i honestly dunno why, but they sound a bit muddy (on my 7 string PRS) compared to BK Aftermath in my 6 string ESP. Especially 7th string, whatever i do.
so technically these are wax wings pickups...?
What's the name of the riff he plays at first? THANK YOU
Haunted Shores - Immaterial
Any world of warcraft players here
yeah "pacifically" for that sound bro
mark can you release your axe fx 3 presets omg i always love your tone
Hmm...wonder if someone's working on a 8 string sig....that'd be pretty cool if he was
I cried watching this trailer. Yes, its that bad. Kevin Spacey couldn't even save this plot.
Just got the SVN
Scarlet rot & Starscourge Radahn
Why do they kinda look like BKs?
Because they're pickups? Huh, who would have thought 🤤
It's the double poles on the covers
@@benjipc5637 I’m not asking what makes them look like Bare Knuckles, but why they made that design decision.
Kinda look like jake bowens dimarzio titan pickups too~
Maybe its the price, I mean, they are getting close to Bare Knuckle, which are overpriced already :_)
I am glad we still have Dimarzio who has a different approach to the community, while offering US made pickups with a nice quality and consistency.
I have this one but it not that blue 😂😂😂
1000th like
No Redskins shirt in this one?
Scarlet and Scourge… hmmm sounds like they’re inspired by Malenia and Radahn 😂
More like World of Warcraft
Alpha and Omega were way too treble
Agreed
That's how he got that note "definition" even when distorted
For low tunings it is awesome
The S&S have less bass and even more treble lol
lmfao
sales of the Alpha omega must have slowed down, time to bring out something new
cash grab city baby
Then go back to the bridge, out side of the city, Troll
