I recommend your video a lot on the N55 FaveBook group for 7:35 alone. No other video that I have watched goes over that part!
Thank you for this video, especially about the rear firewall piece. I didn't know it was removable. With this step, I discovered that if you also loosen the whole cowl cover and move it out of the way (you need to remove the wiper blade arms), you have full even more access and you can pull the valve cover straight up. Your video pointed me in this direction and I was able to complete the job. Thank you!
Thx bro my car was making that whining sound really loud and that made me figure it out its the valve cover
glad we could help
Thanks man!
What is your o2 sensor hack? I have catless downpipe and want to do this for smog check.
Getting ready to do mine, how long did it take from start to finish?
What about putting a few dabs of gasket sealer in the corners where the gasket might curl.
sorry for the late response but I would not recommend adding gasket sealer just because the oem procedure does not call for it
So i did a valve cover an gasket....got everything back together an my check engine light is on...rechecked everything 3 times now an cant find anything loos or unplugged....engine seems to run normal but the light wont go off...drove it around for about 2 days an light still on.....smh...any suggestions??...oh an my scan tool says multiple misfires
I absolutely loved parts of this video. Like taking off the plastic by the firewall. Makes it so EASY to get to the rear 3 bolts by the firewall and to get the valve cover down there.
Quick question, after taking off the breather hose from the coolant reservoir, did you burp the system after? I’m taking that flimsy plastic crap off that’s known to break above the radiator and just replacing the hose as an entire coolant hose, single piece. So, just curious.
it can always help to rebleed the cooling system
Ive done this job on my old n54 and now i have to do it again on my n55 but my biggest concern is torquing the bolts down last time i used proper torque specs but ended up breaking the bolt and it was stuck in the head. Any tips on torquing down the bolts? i dont want to do the same on my n55
tbh for valve cover bolts I just snug them down with a regular ratchet. I have also found torqueing these bolts tends to snap them on the non-oem ones. Just snug by hand is fine
Thanks I have 2011 335 with 65k miles. Where did you get kit from fcp? I did coils and plugs myself and I’m trying to get confident enough to do this and save $1k, dealer quoted me 1200 but realizing it was only for gasket replacement and are the valve cover kit is $500 be like $90 only for gasket
this valve cover was from ebay and has held up perfectly. This diy is definitely doable and not too bad
@ChiTownTuners what brand was the cover. Can you post the link on eBay. I rather get same brand from the same seller you bought from as you have experienced it well. I’ll appreciate the response.
theyre all the same but here is a a link to a good one: www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Valve-Cover-Fits-BMW-E82-E90-E70-135i-335i-535i-X3-X5-3-0L-Turbo-N55B30/283715910418?fits=Make%3ABMW&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item420ec93b12:g:u0YAAOSwY-NeCXKB&amdata=enc%3AAQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%252Fn%252BzU5L90Z278x5ickk7PdDazAlGltMLJlUhrWsD%252BKpzTeQRvSOiollNvvy6fGdD%252BQK36x8qJBAv0IYx9DwjR%252BcclQYehqW6n23XwAc41Wa%252Bglc8tjsKw0JJmbU%252B65TSA4PV8WbxGBu586pd3ZBuq%252F4rj2%252FGjwHBylruCVQ2ARmrh8oDGaiJKv8Y6NKH3f%252BwzKgIQSaq6oqxYgjhPNNY1aw0QbXhoGgUNRax0zq8kjWdqt%252FRcl5C1DA8%252BUz8q5z2DUpNFw05ODbfFJlWs1d6vQajy0Tbe8Bl%252BG3rqrS3iEqen%252Bz9Zsp6uBJ4pZBdXPXaN0nMBmCOR6D53RqjfaRYC8mejwIQs2x4O6Ox2%252F9CEKXgH22DqVO1NrtLJWeqZeJJ7iTuYB1FRkIs4innU7I0RL4vvQcbbNGMXd4aIKiLli4vH6UsgmviqIQ6ESphzhEGlC9fOSMWrIbDue1AX2wsRGuIsawUejFZkxQzGftCgjKcL9LnFD0CAxgLgC6mdTIsQWgkkEvJn9lS%252FtABdkK66zB8KoK8biPDEcC5QV1iHpBWV5ivk10HHsRq59GnId%252FRk9m5TqZzfSrQzApTt0v3TjIrn7fhOHVXjUcvDC50xpU%252FkZb0u0I9p6em0kq9Ui76tlhE9DEZo31MgsjF5%252Bb3gc2grqYxhDpuyQQoCCn7%252BNCFvN9zIA6i%252BAgntxCkdZe%252BTI9q4m%252FBmm0Jm1UUZyLAUw60J9b8u9lKj01vsMjMz6CuvJcjeT6UUrlp2zXcq35w7Eqvhw0%252F69vZ3KjygVfQ%252FM9FN3rn0Mm40cBwvjvdA%253D%253D%7Ccksum%3A283715910418ba10ce781b9044b885efdd08a93e022d%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2334524
make sure to get an oem gasket tho... i would not use the one the comes from ebay. just a good tip
@@ChicagoE9X need a two year update lol, is the valve cover still working well ? no leaks etc
@@RingerRacing yep still running strong no issues
How did you do with o2 bypass? You got a link
we will most likely make a video regarding this
You changed the valve cover just because of a noise? Or did you had any oil leaks and engine light?
it was just because of the sound. it was creating a vacuum leak through the pcv system
@@ChicagoE9X that’s what I have rn a weird annoying squeal when I rev it
Hi, doing an N55 valve cover on a 2016 X5, 35i everything is off and we are ready to take the valve cover off but it's stuck like glue,I see videos that always show the cover after it's been removed, what is the best way to actually lift the valve cover off of the head?? Any info would be appreciated thank you.
a plastic pry tool
@@ChicagoE9X Hi, Thank you, I ended up using one of the plastic trim removal pieces I had in a set for removing auto trim, it took two of us to grab onto the cover and finally get it to "POP" off the cover from the undamaged from the head. The new cover is in place and the gasket is leakproof! Torquing down the 26 bolts was a scary thing to do but it looks like it was done and done well and WOW what a savings. We used an EBAY Valve Cover with an BMW OEM valve cover gasket, a BMW PVC gasket (bowling ball shaped one) with two new BMW aluminum Torx screws and an Crankcase vent hose hose? This job ran us $250.00 for everything and we spent 3 days working on it...taking our time to get it right. I'd like to thank you for responding to my question here.
4:14 did you do a video on this O2 sensor hack ?
No we never did... possibly in the future
After I replace my cover I got a engine light and a P112F code any thoughts? I do not know what to do at this point.
sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere
I got the same code, but it happened to be that the valve cover gasket was out of place, once everything was set properly the problem went away.
Have you found the eBay valve cover and gaskets to be of good quality? I need to do this job, would love to save some money, but would hate to have to redo this because the fitment is bad or the gaskets leak.
For what it's worth, I just ordered a Vaico valve cover, which was ~double the cost of the cheapest Ebay ones, but still nearly half the cost of the BMW part. The vendor spoke very highly of its quality, so I'm hoping this will be a safe mid-range compromise... For a job of this size, I couldn't bring myself to buy one of the Ebay ones... Good luck!
the fitment worked perfectly fine. So far the valve cover has been great and i have no issues what so ever! I would definitely go with the ebay valve cover especially for only $100
@@allenb4113 how was it
@@BeamedoutTV Glad you asked... Bottom line is that if I were to do this over again, I would buy OEM, no question about it. While I was told that this was made in Germany and was high quality, it was actually made in China and the quality was clearly inferior. Many of the bolts were defective and I needed to use differently-sized sockets just to get a grip on them. I wasted literally hours trying to tighten that really difficult-to-reach bolt in the back, which turned out to be defective. Thankfully, I was able to finish the install, and everything's running fine. However, I have little faith that the part will last given the inferior quality, and with a job of this size, in my opinion, the savings is not worth the risk or the hours of wasted time. Hope this helps!
@@allenb4113 thanks for the quick reply looks like I’ll be spending $500 after all, I just don’t trust any eBay parts for a “luxury” car lmao
Bro, question?
My N55 won’t fill up as it should when pumping gas. The pump keeps shutting off. It takes a while to fill up. What might be the problem? Any ideas? Thanks.
ive been struggling with this forever. It can be the charcoal canister or the filler neck
@@ChicagoE9X oh ok.
It’s really annoying trying the fill up. I’ll look into that. So you haven’t fixed yours yet?
@@rockyflex1 no I haven't fixed it unfortunately
@@ChicagoE9X oh ok. Do you have the engine light on? I don’t.
@@rockyflex1 no i don't
That air intake could be routed better / in a better location
the air scoop takes air from the grilles and flows it directly onto the intake.
How’s the valve cover holding up ? Trying to save some money and might just go with the eBay one.
Holding up perfectly no issues at all
@@ChicagoE9X ordered the one you linked in the comments, did you use the gasket it came with ?
@@kevthecompass6217 no use an oem gasket. The ebay gaskets are no good
@@ChicagoE9X alright thanks for the advice, should also do a ofhg diy !
@@ChicagoE9X been trying to take that last bottoms left bolt out for the past hour and 45 minutes
Did you have any other issues than that noise before changing valve cover? I have a little bit of shaking idle when cold. My car is 2011 model and 65k miles.
Sande Halonen that could most likely be from spark plugs, cool packs, or injectors starting to go out on you. Try replacing plugs and coils
@@DSWGamingMCSG I have already replaced Delphi coils and NGK spark plugs, no effect. :/
Sande Halonen you might want to go after injectors next.
@@DSWGamingMCSG yeah, propably, but maybe I should read live data if it tells something, it costs 600$ to replace all injectors.
Sande Halonen lucky you lol it’s close to $1350 for n54 injectors😂 have you walnuts blasted the intake valves?
anyone else dizzy?
sorry for that we will be working on camera mounting
this has to be the worst video i have ever seen lol and its because of the camera work
