You can Google apartments as well. I'm currently renting a studio in Dumaguete for $260.00, fully furnished, western standards, wifi, and HBO, mostly foreigners who live there...when I first Googled for Apartments I read the reviews before we walked there and took a look....

The foreigners move in with their filipinas fast because they've just spent decades of their lives dealing with toxic feminist Western relationships that have drained them emotionally and financially. They don't want these newfound amazing feelings with their filipina to get away.

Sound advice, to be sure. I’ve been here for two weeks, and I’m hip-deep in my own experiment.
I spent one week with my brother and his girlfriend in a Cebu province. I couldn’t stand sleeping in the same room with five other people, so I came down to Dumaguete.
I spent three nights in a terrible hotel, and then a non-sexual female friend helped me find an apartment. It’s not in the city, proper, but it has good access to pedicabs, so town is just a few minutes away. I have a six month contract, which goes against your advice, but I’m willing to take things slow and live as a single guy for a while.

Hello Gio, I am going to Dipolog City in August to Visit my Filipina and to meet her Parents. She has invited me to stay in their home but I told her that I will stay in the Hotel close to the airport for my first visit because I need air conditioning to sleep at night. And you are right, after my 30 hour flight to the Philippines, I will need to sleep first before meeting anyone. Take care.

Sound advice as always Gio, it really is overwhelming for affection starved Western guys when they experience Filipinas for the first time. Like you, I only book 3-5 nights anywhere initially, depending on what there is to see and do in that area. It makes it easier to move on if you’re not really happy with the hotel, or the girl that you arranged to meet for the first time. From experience, they can sometimes be very different in looks and personality, to how they are online.

    Hello Gio,
I spent two months in the Philippines and one thing that I noticed from the many UA-camrs here is that no one seems to cover what happens to your visa after 59 days. Maybe I missed it but I don’t think so. What the BI does is depending on where you are located, they issue you an ID that can be used to open a bank account and get a drivers license, that might be useful to some but it comes with a price of 3k just for the ID. To me that is useless because I have no intention of getting a bank account or get a drivers license. So for example if you are in Davao they only have one option and that is if you want to extend the visa you get it the same day but they want you to pay 3k per month and adds up quickly, in short we end up paying 9k after 59 days. I asked the immigration employee if that was an option and he said it’s the rule. But if one is in Manila, one can pay 2k per
Month, but the passport stays with them for 3 days before you get it stamped. For many that come to the Philippines, that can add up quickly if one is on a fixed income. So in short, I’m a cheapskate and refused to pay the 9k and went for a visa run to another country. One might argue that the visa run is more expensive but in my case, I’m traveling to a place that I want to go visit anyway. So that might be another topic that you can cover on a video here. Take care.

Going back for two weeks in 3 months. It can work out well. depends on how good a judge of character (or how desperate you are!). So its not all doom and gloom,

I booked a hotel in boracay my last trip at a real nice resort for about 1800 a night for a decent room and found a 3 day special the next day at another hotel down the street for 1200 a night for the presidential suite on the beach

They had my welcome Ron party about 3 weeks after I came here. There were over 100 people there off and on. We lived a year in Bohol before coming here to Davao 3 years ago. Excellent advice to stay at a hotel for several days and personally inspect Airbnb rentals before booking them. Booked a number of Airbnbs here over the last several years, only to discover unpleasant surprises after checking in. Poor plumbing, poor aircon, poor wi-fi, cockroaches, poor location, etc.
Much better to personally inspect the units (and check the plumbing, aircon and wi-fi) before booking. Wish I’d thought of that.

Interesting you mentioned Mactan Gio, my stay in Mactan was not one to remember and Agoda really was the culprit ! apparently there is a beach for snorkeling just a 15 minute walk away , and a fitness centre it stated , but am afraid the reality did not match the advertising, private beach ! what ! no beach that anyone could tell me about that close , and fitness centre ? that was a basketball court with a dodgy roof ( Odette), I was anticipating a gym ! ha ha yes I gave a review that they asked for, strange no comment from them ! I could say a few things about the area as I was thinking of buying a small condo there , good thing I had a good look around, seems like a place for the rich in those 5 star resorts some from 300 usd a night ! anyway I gave a good tip to the two lady cooks who make a good breakfast, am in Mindanao at present in an ok place for 8,500 pesos a month, but should have checked out the area though first, as there are stray dogs and I have to walk down a lane where at the end they sometimes are ! told Landlord but dogs are gone when they turned up so have had to make friends with them and throw them some food, BUT if I had of known this situation, as was scared I could have been bitten as they were growling a few times ! so yes ! you guys check b4 you reside in a place check the surrounds , good video Gio , maybe catch up with you some time , cheers !

Hi Gio, enjoy your vlogs, as well as Ms Pea, and Paul (old dog). I will be moving to the islands in a couple years. I was surprised to read what robert bonilla said about your visa after the initial 59 days. So is this 2000 or 3000 peso fee per month mandatory to stay in the islands. its the first time i've heard of this. I know you can get extensions up to 36 months, so was wondering whats this all about.

very true. Also, just for me because I didn't know or experienced ldr, moving in too soon with a girlfriend is probably not adviseable it's like living in with a complete stranger could be dangerous in a lot of ways. So many weird thing, one is being met by the girl's entire family and or friends? This actually depends on whether or not one is comfortable enough to be in the situation which is not a bad thing at all, but that also seems like the foreigner is being pushed.

Renting an AirBnb is super expensive. At least double what a rental would be. I’ve been looking at them for a few months in Iloilo and all are minimum $900/month with the preferred one $1050-$1200. Crazy. I will rent a hotel room for a week and search for a 3 month condo rental using a Filipina to negotiate the rent after I’ve seen the one I want, she can go in next day and see what sort of skin tax I was quoted the day prior. I’ll do the same for my car and ADV160 purchase. I’m surprised you never suggest that. I also believe your suggestion of travel insurance is too expensive as the firm you recommended wants $178/month. Kaiser offers much lower rates but I can self insure in the beginning as medical costs are so low. Hospitals only charge $50/night and most serious stays are often $2K or less. I’m a bit of a gambler as I never get sick and have yet to be prescribed a medication this century. Only the good die young, so I have nothing to worry about.

I need to know how to navigate Cebu in a week. I need to get an idea about living there by checking out the condos, hospitals, health insurance and the cost of withdrawing money from either banks or atm. I heard it costs a lot to take money out.

    • @Cons2911

I believe you can send yourself money, then pick it up at remittance centers like M lhuillier, I think with just an id and a code that the sender (which is you) knows.
I do send myself money using remotely or wise phone app, linked my chase or Bank of America, but I send it to a local bank here where I have an account.

Gio, how does the motorcycle license deal work? Do they have DMV's there?

    • @Cons2911

Yes, it’s called LTO, land transportation office. It works, but have to be honest, a high chance of having to deal with under the table dealings esp in the beginning. It’s not expensive though. It’s crazy driving esp in the Manila area, I know be. That’s where I drive, province is a bit less

Your license is good from your home country for 90 days, after that you must go to the LTO and get a Philippines license.
