I am genuinely so glad i found i found this video because i needed a way to practice hurdles at home; and I'm sure actual hurdles are pretty expensive, but this will be cheaper, thankyou!
Standard schedule 40 PVC will not work as shown. (1" ID = 1.029"; 3/4" OD = 1.050"). Substituting 1" schedule 30 (thinwall) will work although producing a sloppy fit and will be more fragile. However go up a size with sch. 40 and it will work (1 1/4" ID = 1.360"; 1" OD = 1.315"). Actual product dimensions can vary slightly beyond specs, so test fit before purchasing. The larger sizes of sch 40 are considerably higher in price.
Wanted to give an update @homegymathletics was absolutely right. There is a brand at Lowes called Silverline. It works like i charm as far as the 3/4 inch fitting into the 1 inch. Thx for the info and I've made 4 of these for my high school football team!!
I don't know the exact cost but I would say around $20 a hurdle. If you are making a lot of hurdles you can save a lot of money by buying all of the fittings in packages instead of individually. Also. there are 2 thicknesses of pipe. I messed up in the video and said schedule 40. You will need to use the thinner pipe so the sizes I listed will fit into each other. Try at the store before buying. This will also make them cheaper.
There should be 2 different size pvc pipe thicknesses. The thinner pipe should slide easily. I believe the thicker one will be schedule 40, im not sure what the thinner one is.
Gave this a try and ran into an issue where the 3/4 inch pvc does not slide easily inside of the 1-inch pvc. Any tips or tricks to work around this?I thought about going down to a 1/2 inch pvc pipe but wanted to check here first. I also went back to Lowes and HD to see of there was a less thick option and I couldn't locate it. If someone has a link to a less thick version of pvc, please share. Thx

is there any sawing required?
They'd be useless on a track with a tiny bit of tailwind or for more advanced (male) hurdlers, but for kids and places with no wind they look good.
I just use them in my gym. You could put sand in the bottom tubes and cap them off. That would probably take care of the wind.
Awesome! Thx for sharing. Looking for easy to use at home for practicing Track hurdling.
Brilliant dude!!!
how much did it cost? planning on making ten for track

Are you sure it's 1 inch with a 3/4 inch inside? I'm having a hell of a time getting them to go inside each other

@homegymathletics4476 yeah I'll look into that cuz it's seeming impossible to get it to go right

how does the 3/4 fit in to the 1 inch? just went to lowes to try it out but it doesnt fit in the 1
Lowes sells 2 different thicknesses of pipe. The thicker one won't fit. The thinner pipe should.
Can this go to 48inchs?
I just measured the highest it can go. I am able to get it to 47". You would have to modify the tube lengths to get it to 48"
