Morning pages came up in my youtube recommendation today... and you've reminded me of a creative writing workshop I took 25 years ago. We called this morning pages practice "gold digging", an essential 10 minute warm up exercise when sitting down to write. It was called gold digging because after 10 minutes we'd go back and use a highlighter to highlight the shiniest "golden" bits of our writing. Then we worked those golden bits into a poem.
