The stock on your Kar98k is not matching. The stock has a flat buttplate indicating it is pre-1942 stock and wpuld not have been found on your 1943 receiver. The Russians just added a serial number matching the number on the receiver. This is totally normal for Russian capture rifles Hope that helps.
I also went down the journey of restoring a SMLE this year. Mine wasn't sporterized but the forend was badly warped which I sadly did not notice before I bought it. I probably would have passed on it if I had. I instead made lemonade out of my lemon and also bought a Indian drill rifle forend as a replacement. I used acetone to scrub off the paint and then used a wood bleach kit to lighten up the wood, followed by some coats of raw linseed oil. It shoots great now and I think my forend looks much better than when I got it.
Tell us how much you paid for these? I'm always curious as to what the market is generally like. I'm sure you got a killer deal on that carcano! I've been able to get some excellent prices due to sportization (although I don't like too many rifles like that in my collection).
Love the details and random clips put in, gets that ADHD attention span going 😂

The FR 8 flash hider doubles as a grenade launcher. Wonderful rifle!
