I came here from Sailing Melody. I used to own a 30 foot wooden cutter that was 7 tons displacement so I am familiar with restoring boats. Right Nigel first thing ya need is a mobile wheeled Cup of Tea Holder so a drink is always at hand as welding is a thirsty business.Instead of quickly turning round and spilling it if it's in the Holder can,t happen. Yeah Hack saw way to go save so much time. Probably a Horizontal / vertical Mill as well. Probably be better if material in spare container out of the way as most will sit for a bit space better used for tools etc. Yes alround table way to go. Bench space is everything any thing else can go in spare container. Most of your work will be bespoke such as the Melody stuff so will be super interesting. Camera work fine Audio loud and clear all good. ;0)

Nigel, In the main shop area I think you should move your standing tools to either end and put an assembly table in the middle of the room. Also wonder if you could take the wall out that goes to the currently unused container to increase your working foot print. In the other container I think shelves all the way down both sides. Keep the lathe out so it doesn't get difficult to get to, just my 2 cents. :) Also congrats on the new channel look forward to seeing your projects!

I Have been following a lady in the States called April Wilkerson who does a lot of indoor and outdoor projects more often with wood than with metal. As April has altered and expanded her workshop quite a few times she has constructed furniture and fittings to make the most of the space. i would recomend watching some of her early video's it might give you some idea's.

My shop has NEVER been sorted out the way I want it to be. I added tools as the years went by. The space can accommodate them, but I would need to do a thorough re-organization, as you do. I agree with you about the back wall shelving. Getting rid of it would really make a nice space for your lathe. I have a wood lathe that I crammed in to the back of my shop but it's not ideal. Unfortunately, I'm getting old and ill and really unable to do much in the shop anymore. That's what procrastinating will do for you!

came here from you know where to see melody bits being repaired have done all the bits subscribed liked and clicked the bell so let's see how you get on Nigel don't worry I won't unsubscribe I believe all new channels need help so good luck on your future videos. keep the Crain its hany for lifting engines out of cars and other gadgets holding heavy steel while welding you will find a use for it if you get rid of it I bet you on the next job you will need it if it was me I would clear the other container and maybe put the lathe in there and build a bench and good lighting and power ready for other equipment that other container is rather too busy for my liking you certainly have your work cut out but you have an excellent workshop area and it will become super awesome and make sure you fit an alarm to it with a camera to deter the unwelcomed if you know what I mean you have a lot of expensive equipment in there my workshop is alarmed and like fort Knox as I am a mechanic and welder of cars and other vehicles and boats and fibreglassing my snap on tools need to be protected plus all my welding gear mig, tig, plasma, cutting, arc welding. plus hydraulic jigs and many other expensive items and machines a massive compressor 3 phase spraying gear stop, stop know more you know you just need to protect your kit like I do maybe you already do in which case rock on Nigel great video loved it will be waiting for your next one with bated breath all the best from john from Rugby UK.

Well done on the work you do and your intentions. When I rebuilt my shed/garage, I put tools like the compound mitre saw, the pillar drill and the bench saw all on their own waist high mini bench, and mounted them all on lockable caster wheels, might I suggest similar for the lathe as well. All the beds are the same height so they can be used as rests on long lengths of wood and bar. I also take them outside when working which keeps the workshop a lot less dusty.

Really glad you enjoyed the fist vid... lots more to come... if you are completely new to welding I would go for MIG as this is the easiest to learn with almost Instant results.. Its more expensive to get started with than stick tho... Will be doing beginners guide to all 3 types of welding soon TIG MIG and stick with simple to follow practical tips..

I like those big wood shelves, but it is wasteful. Those seem like they were purpose built to hold some giant things

Cool dedicated workshop , is it on your own property? Wouldn't want you to get kicked out like sailing melody !

Thanks for subscribing 🙂... I do have a infrared heater but it so bright I won't be able to use it when filming so at the moment you will probably see me grow as I wear more and more layers as the weather gets colder
