I also tried milling with a router several years ago. Used a 1/8" carbide bit. Just for experimentation I took a few light cuts 2 about a 1/16" of an inch with a small router. It worked but thought it would be too risky to go as deep as you did - amazing you could gouge out so much metal
Dude, use a sheet of plywood, why ruin your floor for 1 project?
You should have been able to bend the arches in one piece using a level and mathmatics. It would help to have a vertical bender. I got a tubing roller as well so the rails and arches have curve for style and fitment of boat lines. I took measurements and transferred angles onto paper, then brought my back and tacked my prices on the sailboat and took it off to bring home for finishing welds. I have angled deck which most sailboats do.
Hi Nigel, where have you gone??
Nice job and explanation. I think you’ll have some trouble mounting those base plates flush to the deck as I’m sure there is a curve to the deck. I’ve seen the posts tacked to the bases in place on the deck, with appropriate measures taken to not damage the fiberglass deck.
Great episode
Nice job, looks great. Wish I had a workshop like that
Have to sand it with 600 grit
It’s so obvious he knows his way around a shop
fantastic job, impressed
Hello Nigel, I’m a new subscriber too come over to watch you build Melodys new cockpit cover. I love the way you make it all sound so easy and relaxed looking forward to see more of your projects. Al😎
Hi Nigel what a fantastic channel it’s good your keeping some of ya dads things
Hi Nigel Andy sent me over to you I like ya work
thanks Nigel that was a great video and a job well done buddy
I thank you for the work you did for Andy and Melissa and I will keep on watching your channel and pick up a few tips on welding.
Found you via sailing melody. Looking forward to watching all your videos.
👍👌👏
You could reverse the bottum blade. !!!! 28:16 28:19 😅
Nice job Nigel looks sharp. You should sneak back there after dark and paint it Orange that,ll sort Simon out. Look forward to the next vid. ;0)
Hi Nigel, what sort of price are we talking about for something like this? I have a moody34 in Y Felinheli that needs doing. Cheers, Darren.
Really nice welding and fabrication Nigel. What are you like welding with aluminium? I have some plating to seal on a small aluminium yacht (5083) would be good for your input if you are familiar with it. David
Ace video mate !!!when you coming to do mine 😆
Would you be available to do a project (boarding steps) on my sunseeker
Hi Deg email me.. Nigetomlinson@gmail.com
Here from Ship happens, well done on the screen.
The finished wind screen looks great. Thanks Nigel!!!
Fantastic!
You brought it back to life!! Well done! Thanks for sharing
Love that wind screen and I know what you mean concerning getting the polish to match but you did a really nice job. High five from USA.
You are amazing from ship happens to sailing melody
Hello Nigel. I have a small project you may be interested in. How should I contact you. Regards tony.
Hi Tony.. you can email me at nigetomlinson@gmail.com
Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view !" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam ." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window ? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment ?"
Wow mate delighted with your new machine and foc. I'm loving this channel
G'day Nigel, that'd be Ship Happens, my guess, this time, caught up with you in Sailing Melody too. Nice job m8, I was surprised how much effort went into it, keep up the good work. Thanks for workin on it. I couldn't believe how much work went into it.
Allen Maynard made a polishing strip from some “Abranet” abrasive net strips. He glued the ends to make a loop and used a dowel in a drill to spin the net around the tube.
Hi Nigel im a new subscriber from ship happens, great job on the windscreen.
nice job.
Brilliant work Nigel, Brilliant!!! Cheers... Joe
An extra episode of Ship Happens!!! Makes my day.
😘
I really enjoy learning from your episodes - with a coffee in hand, of course !
if there are no holes at the bottom of the holders, they will ultimately fill up with water... maybe reconsider 😊
Nice to see an enthusiastic tradesman at work. Although you are a perfectionist sometimes you have to say good job - move on.
nice job fella
You're not going to drill some holes to let the water out that goes in the tubes that way it'll sleep out as you're going across the. Water you need those holes in the bottom of those tubes
Twin brothers ... ?
ha ha ha simon might fall out with you
nice job man well done.
This was great. New subscriber. I think they need dedicated rod holders at the stern. With this set up, the lines will be obstructing the open deck behind.
Thanks for the sub Brian. Something at the stern has been discussed but that will be a future video.
From another Nigel to you, Nigel! 😂😉That was really fascinating to watch the work involved in creating all of that! 😉👍That was bleeding good fun too 😉🤣🤣
Not many of us left eh... so glad you enjoyed it
Nigel, I did not see the drainage holes for the open horizontal tubes… are they there?
I'm so glad that I learnt about your channel through 'Ship Happens'. Simon and Jemma are indeed a lot of fun, but I venture to say that you too seem to be a lot of fun! Birds of a feather flock together as they say. I think you did a wonderful job on the windscreen for the boat. I didn't hear mention, although I think that I did spy at one point, whether there are any drain holes in the frame/road holders. I look forward to viewing some of your other projects.
Thank you Andrew, and your so right Gemma and Simon are so funny...
I think the windscreen has a hard enough job being windscreen. Adding fishing rods is expecting A LOT. proper rod holders at the back corners of the boat would be a better bet.
