It's really true how reliable and tough this thing is. I have a grizzly 125 and it's been through several extreme crashes, but it still looks just like new.
I love my 700 Griz w/EPS, limited edition. Pulls trees. Pull gravel. Pushes my 50" 300lb snowblower up an icy gravel driveway through 2' of snow. For me, TQ is where it is at. It is my workhorse. The snappy torque of a big single thumper is magic. Mine is a utility quad, not a sport quad. I have one of those too. :-)
Owned 4 Yamahas 2 kodiak and I still have one for the kiddo and wife (2011 kodiak 450 eps) and I just bought a 2018 can am xt 1000r and man o man what a machine the can am is.Hands down the best looking and fun factor atv.From the plastic to the painted plastic the wheels the winch the hand gaurds the bush gaurds to the v twin.Ya I like Yamaha but I LOVE my can am!!!
Just recently bought a 2018 grizzly love it so far, way better ride than my 04 sportsman 500 , the power increase is nice too, just need a moose plow mount and I'll be set for winter
i think the grizzly 700 is a rock solid platform and if it aint broke dnt fix it. i do agree 100% that they need a bigger engine for the wolverine, viking, and a another fourwheeler. something to compete with big vtwin renegades as well as work and hunt rigs. the viking needs more power definantly! where you at yamaha?.. love the vids keepm comen!
I own a 2014 SE Grizzly (equiped with the redesigned 686cc engine) and I gotta say, yea I'd LOVE to own a V-Twin Grizzly but the thing is, at 100km/h (60mph for our southern neighbor) its more than enough on the trails! I mean, power is a thing but you got to be able to stop your quad too! A friend of mine as this exact same ATV presented here (but the other SE, silver trim) and that 708 DOHC engine is awesome! It is not THAT much more powerfull than my 686cc SOHC but it doesnt seems to be on the edge of tearing apart at high speed like mine!
a person buys a Yamaha for reliability not speed and horsepower. when u have a Yamaha you know u can trust it to go anywhere , know that u can rely on it , as for Polaris they make them for parts bikes, that's what happen to all of them , something major happen to them and the consumer cant afford to fix it , they end up for parts . we had a 2015 Yamaha Kodiak , and a 2014 Polaris scrambler . the Yamaha Kodiak , we never had any trouble with the bike, put 3000 km on it in one year , the 2015 Polaris scrambler 1000 snapped the crank key off at 500 km, spent 2 months in the shop , was one month old , now today we have 2000 km on the polaris and it has been giving us too much trouble , the drive belt and clutch is gone and the bike jumps when starting off, the universal are worn out in the front drive shaft and also the bearing that goes in to the front diff is also worn out . also the plastic on these Polaris are just like glass , if you bend it or give it a smack , it will break , also the check engine comes on when the press the throttle and the throttle sicks when you give it the gas . absolute junk the Polaris scrambler 1000 is , would not recommend it to any one , we call the bank and told them we are not paying for the bike and come and get it , its just not worth it paying for , not trustworthy , way too much money for a pile of junk, We will continue to buy yamaha products , because it has been proven to be reliable to us , as for Polaris , the are are not the way out for us , because their products wont make it .

Finally looked at these at a dealer. Originally going for a Kodiak. I think the grizzly is perfect for me. Polaris 570 was nice to sit on but felt really bulky and heavy. The Polaris battery location was also terrible. Feels like I can get more places and be more nimble on a grizzly
I bought a sportsman 570... The good: 1. super comfortable! 2. Love the power steering 3. Lots of storage, easy to upgrade racks,, etc.... 4. Love the all wheel drive! Bad: 1. Battery location 2. heavy 3. can be fussy, check engine light and gas gage is messing up I had a brute 650...loved it. owned an old kfx 700, fun old man bike. I've rode rincon and foreman, smooth rides, but slow. Thinking about getting a grizzly 700.
I have a 2016 Suzuki king quad. Single. & im just fine with that its fast & strong. & most likely out last the twins. Suzuki stays with what works. No regrets
my 2016 suzuki king quad 750 se has a big 722 cc single and its a beast . it has more then enough power to go threw anything. if i wanted to win a straighline drag race with a quad id buy a race bike. the king will last forever i had a 99 300 cc only reason i got a new one is for a lil more speed but the 99 is still my beast and in super low i guarantee it will haul anything that any new big cc bike can np!
Yep 700cc single is enough for most uses but again I fully agree that more displacement and cylinders are required for their bigger and sportier machines, they have the motors so I can't only assume it's just a matter of time?
I have a 2015 Special Edition and I'm in love with it. I ride it almost daily and have over 3,100 miles on it. I have nothing bad to say at all other than mine had an issue with the 4x4 switch randomly turning its self on and off. It was an easy fix and I've had no issues since. I really want one of these new ones, but I know as soon as I drop the coin on it, they'll finally bust out a 1000 and I'll be crying that I don't have it haha.

I sure like my 2016 Grizz. I owned a 2014 Polaris 850 XP that had 77 hp and it was nuts. The power was intoxicating. A V twin or parallel twin Grizz would be going into my garage for sure.
Went from polaris to Yamaha, wouldn't even have fun anymore on the polaris worrying about it breaking and sinking thousands in repairs, now have the grizz full throttle all day long no repairs needed
How was the reliability of Polaris? The ADC (Automatic Decent Control) is VERY high maintenance. Belt slippage and burning is horrible. And Polaris does not stand behind their machine. The dealer that sold me all 3 of my Polaris bikes warned me that Polaris is what has been keeping their shop profitable for years. The dealer also sells and services Yamaha CanAm and Honda.
I went from polaris to Yamaha. I had No issues with my Polaris, none whatsoever! I don't ride them hard, I just put them to work. The grizzly is superior in every way that matters to me.
I think the Grizzly 700 has plenty of power for what it is. I also agree Yamaha needs to introduce a higher end new multi cylinder model. TO be honest what I want is a touring 2up grizzly in the 1000cc class.
What the hell, Luke said the the same thing. The first Grizzly was a 600 I know I have a 1999 600 Grizzly that I got new and almost still is with only 430 miles . I got a new 700 Kodiak for rock crawling.
Doesn't matter how many other wheelers I look at I always come back to wanting a Grizzly 700 I already have an '07 450 and it's great just doesn't have that grunt I'm wanting

Haha... I kind of like that its a single cylinder with high reliability. You double the moving parts and you'll jack up the cost and probably the weight too. Why mess with a great formula?
trix4free unless it’s a actual v twin like the Kawasaki. V twin is nothing but torque. The parallel twins like Polaris don’t have that. That’s why the brute 750 has the hardest rush of power on the bottom end even compared to 1000s. But twins tend to drop off at higher rpm
I have an old 1986 or 1984 yahama moto4 350 and it works perfectly only had one problem and that was the carburetor needed to be cleaned badly. and I'd be willing to trade for that bike lol

I am considering upgrading my 4 wheeler this year 2006 polaris sportsman 800ho. the power thing isn't a huge issue as long as it can get out the hole quickly. it is a true ranch four wheeler and it hasn't broke down a bunch but it always seems something little is wrong with it. exhaust bolts, drive belt and so one. is this 700 atv that you claim is rock soild gonna be a better fit minus a few ponies?
the grizzley 700 efi with ps is the most reliable, maintenance free machine I've owned. I've owned them all. any year 2008 and newer, you cant go wrong as long as previous owners hadn't snorkeled them for abusive riding. 3000 miles and I'm looking at wheel bearings.... that's it.
Isn't there a reason that they went back to the slightly smaller engines on the 2020/2021's? I've been out of the Yamaha loop since 2008 so I'm not familiar with their current line up and their specs.
The CanAm 1000 sounds nice, and in a drag race barely beats the 700 Grizzly, but your fuel milage and trction is severly decreased. I carry a spare gas can, but have never needed it on a 50 to 60 mile day trip with the Grizzly, but have given it to the folks with the CanAm and Polaris to get them back to the parking area.
That may be true, but everything in life is a trade off. a respectable race would depend on driver weight, altitude, terrain, clutching, rider experiance, maturity, quality of life insurance, mortality, etc. A quarter mile drag race in mountainous terrain where I ride is impractable, if not impossible.If you read my other posts, you will see that I am no novice, or have been confined to just one choice of machine, or size. I can afford anything I wish, and can pay for the upkeep, gas, and insurance. However, after trying the rest, the grizzly is the best choice in my OPINION, and keep the extra cash in my bank account that would have been wasted keeping the CanAm going. You may still have testesterone issues, but I havent. I have maturity and common sense.I have ridden, or ridden with all the brands, and sizes,. I prefer to ride back to the parking area rather than break down or run out of gas 10 miles away, find no cell service, and hike back.Have you priced the cost of parts on the CanAm? Even replacing an ignition switch on a CanAm is approaching $1,000 as one fellow found out after losing his keys.You may buy, ride, and spend your money as you wish. Until Harley Davidson comes out with a V-Twin ATV I will stay with the 2016 700 Grizzly, and have a BIG smile on my face looking back at the CanAm 1000 slipping and spinning trying to keep up with my Grizzly with REAL LOCKERS on mountain trails.
P.S., check out the video's on UA-cam about the Arapeen Trail system. Power isn't everything, and often is a handicap. However, machine reliability good sense, and rider skill is a must. Getting from one end of a mud bog to the other, or a senseless drag race or tug of war doesn't prove a thing.
The Grizzly is a sweet ride, I would purchase one over any can am. In a pure drag race, the can am would stomp on the Grizz. If I want to race all the time, I'll get a sports quad.
Stay away from the Polaris 570 guys. I had a non eps and the popular green one with eps. I sold both - I never had issues with the non eps, the green one was terrible. They make them on the cheap, heavy, bulky. Battery placement is terrible. The Yamaha, at 48/49 horsepower is plenty fast. If you simply want speed, of course, grab a 1000. The Yamaha is easy to navigate, super smooth and fun. The v twin is great, I had brute years ago, but they eat up gas in a hurry. The big single is easy on gas. If you get a Polaris, get ready to use that warranty!
I think a v twin would be nice, but the 700 has plenty of power, bullet proof, lighter, and takes less to feed than the 2 cylinder. Replacing the muffler outlet with a 2 inch alum with spark arrester eliminates the whimpy sound from the factory, and gives a very noticable increase in power and mileage for only 50 bucks.
Hey I am torn between the Grizzly and Suzuki Kingquad 750 power steering. What I still can't understand is why they both have foot brakes, they both have to brake levers at the front so why have a foot brake?
850- 900cc 2 cylinder 800lbs machine would smash the market. The 1000cc machines are 1000lbs. The weight difference would make up for the power and save on wear. Yamaha could easily do this and it looks like with the new wolverine it’s only a matter of time
I have a king 750. Absolutely bullet proof. However they have changed little since 2009. Twin spark plug, minor cosmetic changes. I think it still holds up in today's market. However, I think it would be exciting for Suzuki to up the anti a bit. I think the drive system is every bit as good as the grizzlies.
can't decide if i want a grizzly or a kodiak 700. main objective is to plow with it and some trail riding, nothing to serious.. just looking for some opinions. which one and y? thanks
Scott F. My dad has one of the old 550's and it's an excellent machine. Most likely they discontinued it because of a lack of sales since it was so close in cost with the 700.
Honda never really got into the higher cc ATV market, there only competitor is the 680 Rincon. Honda as a company focuses more on their smaller cc bikes (420cc Ranchers, and 475cc Rubicons and Foremans). The Rincons haven't had a remodel in almost 4 years. They need to remodel the Rincon and dump their new 1000 motor in it... Then I think people would buy it.
these guys got something against Suzuki atvs they wont ever do a review on them when they are probably the best for the price power features durability quality instead they would rather review Polaris junk, I ride with and seen some kings with some stupid high miles
Having owned Grizzly then Sportsman 550, 850, and 1000, I went back to the Grizzly. Reasons....The new 2016 Grizzly rides as plush as the sportsman, has a better power train, better traction, equal power of the 850XP and only slightly less than the 1000, and gets better gas milage than even the 550 sportsman. The sportsman is too light on the front end making it dangerous climbing over obsticals. I have personally watched two episodes, and heard of three others of the sportsman coming over the top and landing on the rider. The two cylinder is more maintenance, more weight, and more costly to feed.I came back to Grizzly, and happy I did.
So the competition is pulling away in horsepower...........Well dog spit ! Let 'em. I'm getting a '18 Grizzle Bear after having ridden my 2004 660 Grizzle Bear for 14 years. The 660, as well as the 700 have all the power I need and want. To want more power, why ???.........You guys, these machines are not meant to be competitive with nitrous/alcohol blown funny cars. To approach speeds upward of, really, 45 MPH, on a machine with an extremely short, and narrow wheel base is STUPID !!! You all do what you want but I personally like being able to........walk ???.......To wipe my own ass ???........Hell to be alive !! Pain and misery AINT no fun ! Haha. Customers will never be a problem for Yamaha. Us Yamaha owners generally seek out something that is dead-nuts reliable, even if that means being humbled on the trail straightaways. But, we KNOW our ride will get us back to the pickups, every single time. Sure, more power would be nice.
Yes Yamaha is losing lone time customer like me that has 4 times got a new Yamaha but this last new one is a Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 and it is Awesome now the Grizzly is parked.
You guys need to quit catering to these manufacturers and give the consumer more honest reviews. I had a 16 grizzly and it was no torque monster and didn't satisfy me in the least bit in the power Department. I just soon ride my old 700 King Quad which was quite a bit faster off the line and turned better. And reliable? Generally Yamaha is very reliable but me among several others both online and at my local dealer had to have new top ends due to a poor designed intake system. I was not impressed with my 16 Grizzly eps, and ended up trading it off this summer. Put some real horsepower and torque in the grizzly and I would consider buying another one.

Its probably so reliable because its so underpowered. I hear that a tuner and exhaust help things a bit. I’m keeping an eye out for one of these.

Also, big singles typically have more torque than equivalent cc doubles, which to me is more important than top end HP.

They introduced a 708 Fuji engine but it was having issues so they went back to the 686 which is rock solid.

That may be true, but everything in life is a trade off. a respectable race would depend on driver weight, altitude, terrain, clutching, rider experiance, maturity, quality of life insurance, mortality, etc. A quarter mile drag race in mountainous terrain where I ride is impractable, if not impossible.If you read my other posts, you will see that I am no novice, or have been confined to just one choice of machine, or size. I can afford anything I wish, and can pay for the upkeep, gas, and insurance. However, after trying the rest, the grizzly is the best choice in my OPINION, and keep the extra cash in my bank account that would have been wasted keeping the CanAm going. You may still have testesterone issues, but I havent. I have maturity and common sense.I have ridden, or ridden with all the brands, and sizes,. I prefer to ride back to the parking area rather than break down or run out of gas 10 miles away, find no cell service, and hike back.Have you priced the cost of parts on the CanAm? Even replacing an ignition switch on a CanAm is approaching $1,000 as one fellow found out after losing his keys.You may buy, ride, and spend your money as you wish. Until Harley Davidson comes out with a V-Twin ATV I will stay with the 2016 700 Grizzly, and have a BIG smile on my face looking back at the CanAm 1000 slipping and spinning trying to keep up with my Grizzly with REAL LOCKERS on mountain trails.
P.S., check out the video's on UA-cam about the Arapeen Trail system. Power isn't everything, and often is a handicap. However, machine reliability good sense, and rider skill is a must. Getting from one end of a mud bog to the other, or a senseless drag race or tug of war doesn't prove a thing.
The Grizzly is a sweet ride, I would purchase one over any can am. In a pure drag race, the can am would stomp on the Grizz. If I want to race all the time, I'll get a sports quad.
Stay away from the Polaris 570 guys. I had a non eps and the popular green one with eps. I sold both - I never had issues with the non eps, the green one was terrible. They make them on the cheap, heavy, bulky. Battery placement is terrible. The Yamaha, at 48/49 horsepower is plenty fast. If you simply want speed, of course, grab a 1000. The Yamaha is easy to navigate, super smooth and fun. The v twin is great, I had brute years ago, but they eat up gas in a hurry. The big single is easy on gas. If you get a Polaris, get ready to use that warranty!
Would you guys prefer to see a 800cc engine or a 1000cc engine on the Grizzly. Me personally would be happy with a 2 two cylinder 800-850cc Grizzly.

I think a v twin would be nice, but the 700 has plenty of power, bullet proof, lighter, and takes less to feed than the 2 cylinder. Replacing the muffler outlet with a 2 inch alum with spark arrester eliminates the whimpy sound from the factory, and gives a very noticable increase in power and mileage for only 50 bucks.
While more power would be good the big single is just bomb proof and earned its reputatiin, just bore it out a bit
Hey I am torn between the Grizzly and Suzuki Kingquad 750 power steering. What I still can't understand is why they both have foot brakes, they both have to brake levers at the front so why have a foot brake?

For me the single cylinder 700cc his so perfect is light reliable non need 1000cc bi cylinder tha weiht a ton
850- 900cc 2 cylinder 800lbs machine would smash the market. The 1000cc machines are 1000lbs. The weight difference would make up for the power and save on wear. Yamaha could easily do this and it looks like with the new wolverine it’s only a matter of time
I have a king 750. Absolutely bullet proof. However they have changed little since 2009. Twin spark plug, minor cosmetic changes. I think it still holds up in today's market. However, I think it would be exciting for Suzuki to up the anti a bit. I think the drive system is every bit as good as the grizzlies.
It can't really be improved I've put 8000 miles on one with no problems and it's fast enough

When Honda, yami or Suzuki bring out a v twin in their atvs can am and Polaris are in trouble and il be trading my can am in for one of those three

Scott F. My dad has one of the old 550's and it's an excellent machine. Most likely they discontinued it because of a lack of sales since it was so close in cost with the 700.

Honda never really got into the higher cc ATV market, there only competitor is the 680 Rincon. Honda as a company focuses more on their smaller cc bikes (420cc Ranchers, and 475cc Rubicons and Foremans). The Rincons haven't had a remodel in almost 4 years. They need to remodel the Rincon and dump their new 1000 motor in it... Then I think people would buy it.
I would be happy if they would just offer power steering on the Rincon.
Where's Yamaha's 2 up machine? I'd rather they work on a 2 up and worry about more power or adding another cylinder later!

Having owned Grizzly then Sportsman 550, 850, and 1000, I went back to the Grizzly. Reasons....The new 2016 Grizzly rides as plush as the sportsman, has a better power train, better traction, equal power of the 850XP and only slightly less than the 1000, and gets better gas milage than even the 550 sportsman. The sportsman is too light on the front end making it dangerous climbing over obsticals. I have personally watched two episodes, and heard of three others of the sportsman coming over the top and landing on the rider. The two cylinder is more maintenance, more weight, and more costly to feed.I came back to Grizzly, and happy I did.

So the competition is pulling away in horsepower...........Well dog spit ! Let 'em. I'm getting a '18 Grizzle Bear after having ridden my 2004 660 Grizzle Bear for 14 years. The 660, as well as the 700 have all the power I need and want. To want more power, why ???.........You guys, these machines are not meant to be competitive with nitrous/alcohol blown funny cars. To approach speeds upward of, really, 45 MPH, on a machine with an extremely short, and narrow wheel base is STUPID !!! You all do what you want but I personally like being able to........walk ???.......To wipe my own ass ???........Hell to be alive !! Pain and misery AINT no fun ! If someone wants to race you at high speeds........just give them their trophy right off the get go and then go have some fun not being stupid. Signed, Doug.

Haha. Customers will never be a problem for Yamaha. Us Yamaha owners generally seek out something that is dead-nuts reliable, even if that means being humbled on the trail straightaways. But, we KNOW our ride will get us back to the pickups, every single time.

Yes Yamaha is losing lone time customer like me that has 4 times got a new Yamaha but this last new one is a Polaris Sportsman XP 1000 and it is Awesome now the Grizzly is parked.
You guys need to quit catering to these manufacturers and give the consumer more honest reviews.
I had a 16 grizzly and it was no torque monster and didn't satisfy me in the least bit in the power Department. I just soon ride my old 700 King Quad which was quite a bit faster off the line and turned better.
And reliable? Generally Yamaha is very reliable but me among several others both online and at my local dealer had to have new top ends due to a poor designed intake system. I was not impressed with my 16 Grizzly eps, and ended up trading it off this summer. Put some real horsepower and torque in the grizzly and I would consider buying another one.
