Same issue here in Canada. Once you start lowering the lawn to match the sidewalk or driveway elevation, you may have to continue far back, to achieve a uniform slope for the lawn. I've learned that the hard way. All the best to you!

Yup, he's just moved the edge back 18". Agree he needs to extend the slope further.

Yeah that's it mate never going to get it perfect but it'll be better than it was. To do the best possible job I'd scrape back to the other side of the lawn area but that's not too realistic haha

@@lawnsingoodnick4834 I have a few areas that my mower scrapes too. You video helped me think about the fix-it ain’t gonna be easy. May need to just cut those areas with my string trimmer.
      Good luck!

Duuuude, you should have seen my back entry where my neighbour's trees have raised the ground level about 200mm. It took me a week with crowbar and axe to remove a trailer load of roots before I could get it level to use my gates again. Now reseeded and finally growing grass, with paver steps and new posts and timbers on the gates, now I have to drive slowly every time I pass. ( While mentioning to my family , "Geeees that is a good looking gateway". Insert wifely groan of encouragement.) Worth every drop of sweat, of which there were a few, but , you know, too few to mention.

make rectangular cuts from the edge. slide underneath from the edge of the grass to where you want and roll the grass, remove soil and put the grass back in its place.

That's what I do, spade only, turf doesn't need to be removed, surprisingly easy, quick final result.
If it's a large volume of soil, maybe not.

I would have cut the turf off the top, inspected the soil underneath and then removed the excess soil making sure that it was not just rock or clay underneath then relay the turf. My opinion as a landscaper

I have a hump near my gutter which makes it a pain to mow with the cylinder mower. I am planning on hiring a corer and borrowing a wacka packa and go over several time removing cores and levelling out with the wacka and finally coring and filling them with sand to hopefully reduce the hump. Fingers crossed it’s successful.

You need a sod cutter, it's super easy to go through and cut high spots right off. Shovel it up and move it elsewhere.

Sounds like your method will work! May be easier to dig out a slab then remove soil below but I assume you'll be coring your whole lawn anyway so need that machine

I have the same problem mate, build went up next door and the wind sent half the sand from the Saraha desert and raised the lawn.

I had perfectly smooth transitions between sidewalk edge and the dirt and over the course of 5 years worm castings have built up again creating a transition. This is what causes it. It's not b/c I graded it wrong.

Didn’t realise that’s how turf farms worked, my tiftuf arrived near end of winter with a ton of thatch in it.

This is a problem when people attempt to improve the soil of an existing lawn. By adding new soil and sand, it increases the height and creates this issue. I might have to remove everything, dig 10cm down, add the right soil and lay over that.

Yeah you might have to mate! Mine was like this when we moved in but previous owners didn't take too much care of it

Something with compost and no big chunks of anything in it

Buddy, you flip the shovel push it in, then flip it again, shovel normality and you will remove a shovel full of dirt but leave the top two inches of grass. Essentially removing the dirt but leaving the grass.

flip your wipper snipper on edge and make a trench say 10ml wide from the paver to lawn would be easier fix then repeat each lawn cut

My neighbor are in their 90's....like their grandson owns a lawn service and simply mows. Like dude, "WHY would ya?!" Edges are almost 2's" with a tiny walkway from their front door....I so seriously don't wanna see them "DIP" from Grass.....they mind their own, I think I would insult the dude if brought to his attention and piss the birds off as well...any suggestions

Why? Why would you do that? Beautiful lawn torn up not worth it, change your mowing technique. I have raised edge and never had that problem. You just made more work for yourself
