Thank you for conducting yourself so well when you fact-check. Certain science based influencers would take this as an opportunity to breed toxicity & outrage and ride coattails to try to stay relevant. You dive into this breakdown with class. You acknowledge whats right and wrong in the data rather than attacking the person. This type of self conduct & leadership is needed in this space.

C’mon Chris. Have some actual integrity.
Folks, the reason that he shouldn’t give this charlatan any respect, yes, even basic courtesy, is the obscene amount of money he makes of off snake oil miracle cures with only a background in Insurance Claims Statistics.
Actual real people Allison, suffer terribly because they see his “convincing” testimonials and invest their own hope into such “cures”.
I’m 50 years old, and have impeccable manners. This isn’t a contest for how well we are sparing people’s feelings even though they are actual fraudulent scumbags. People’s lives hang in the balance.

Hey Chris. The best thing to do is to not publicly criticize Brecka because he’s helped Dana White and is helping others but maybe because you have a medical background and PhD. Then you should reach out to him and work with him to fill in the gaps of knowledge he might not have and vice versa. I know you wanna make content but as men and masculinity being put on a chopping block we should stand together as best we can taking less confrontational actions which is more masculine and help as many people as you can. A group of you all would help a lot of people. Then all disagreements will be off camera and resolutions on camera.

I've gone to "professionals" with a "science background" my entire life and all i've ever been prescribed was drugs that caused more side-effects than they were worth. Since getting my genes tested and adjusting my nutrient intake accordingly I've gone off all medication, including ADHD medication and my life has never been better. Nowadays I avoid anyone who flexes their PHD or science background as I've realised these things are really quite arbitrary and I've been doing very well for myself. Another general rule of thumb, anyone who claims to "fact check" should be avoided like the plague.

I disagree, I am glad Chris Littlejohn made this video and he was very respectful with his critique. I have now seen 2-3 interviews with Gary Brecka where he makes an assertion and when challenged by the host, he throws out a set list of generalities and no specifics. I find it uncomfortable listening to him at times. Chris is right that you cannot pigeonhole all maladies into 5 gene mutations as it oversimplifies the complexity and uniqueness of human genetics. That is like saying that a standard lipid panel from your primary care doctor is as effective as enhanced test like a Cleveland Heart Panel.
I am with Chris about his praise of Gary for extolling the value nutrition and naturopathic alternatives to immediate pharmacological intervention. My issue with Gary is he speaks from a script from which he is unable to deviate and drill down into specifics. If anyone is out there in the public realm pushing a narrative which can affect people’s health, they need be challenged when making claims which are not supported by science. Chris does a great job of pointing out Gary’s misstatements and supported them with science.

Pharmacy Technician.... In Pharmacy "folic acid" is used mistakenly as a generic term for a folate. You cited a clinical trial from 2010 when the terms "folic acid" and "folate" were used interchangeably. They still are in Pharmacy today. A folate can help prevent NBD but not the synthetic "folic acid". This trail would have been using the generic term "folic acid".

So, for people with the mthfr mutation what else could be recommended outside of this general knowledge:
      1. Supplements: Besides methylated B12 (methylcobalamin), folate in its active form (5-MTHF or folinic acid), and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), other supplements like Betaine (TMG), NAC (N-Acetylcysteine), and SAM-e (S-Adenosyl methionine) may be suggested.
      2. Diet: A diet rich in natural folates such as leafy greens, asparagus, and legumes is typically recommended. Foods high in natural B vitamins, like eggs, nuts, and avocados, can also be beneficial. It’s important to avoid processed foods and those with added synthetic folic acid.

He did in fact say that you don’t have to get this test with him and you can get it anywhere else, and pertaining to that study of taking folic acid during pregnancy , he said not everyone is able to break these down and if the study did not take that into account it is practically a randomized test since only around 44% of people can take the non methylated and be effective so that’s another flaw in that study.

    • @rdizzy1

I know one thing. I have the gene mutation. I started taking methylated vitamins and it has made a huge difference in the way I feel. I have far more energy and far less anxiety and depression. You can say what you want, but it's helped me! Gary Brecka earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology General from Frostburg State University. Subsequently, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from the National University of Health Sciences. Maybe he doesn't claim he knows everything; I haven't heard him say he's infallible. He has a lot of on the job training as well. I think we would be crazy to think anybody is infallible. We also shouldn't disregard his experience. We should take his advice and see how we each respond! I think you are being a bit arrogant in thinking a graduate degree means more than other experience. After covid, I damn sure don't trust most of the overly educated talking heads. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the deaths were insanely exaggerated, and the vaccine isn't really a vaccine. It helps survivability, but it doesn't prevent disease. Educated people can try his ideas and see how they feel.

My 17 year old daughter was diagnosed by a psychiatrist at age 7 with PDDNOS” , which I guess now is just under the autism umbrella . She also was diagnosed a few years later with anxiety , ADD, and OCD. She had an extreme hand washing issue ..it disrupted her daily life all through elementary school until we found the right medication for her. She has struggled all through her life with very poor executive function, forgetfulness, trouble focusing even on ADD medication. The school district we are in has been amazing because they have a fantastic program for kids with learning issues etc..My daughter has also always had bad eczema and allergies. Out of the blue a few months ago she had a seizure that caused the right side of her face to droop right after, but it went away. Saw a neurologist, had CT scan and found out that she has bi lateral scatterings of gray matter heterotopias in her brain with a significantly large one in her right frontal lobe and two others at the end of each anterior horn, one which goes into the “ speech /language “ part of her brain. So basically these things are disrupting signals to parts of her brain, which explains a lot of the struggles that she has had learning. She is now at a high risk for future seizures and epilepsy. I know that the brain is amazing and pliable at her age. New pathways can be made around these “ road blocks” in her brain. Is there ANYTHING we can do nutritional & supplementally wise to support optimal function of her brain? Sorry this is so long . Thank you

I will however still side with Brecka, because while he could err on the side of caution, i appreciate his willingness to help humans prolong their health ... something no modern doctor is able to do for us any more. They are all forced to sign NDAs and prescribe copious amounts of medications, with little to no explanations or cures. For the first time in my life, since i started self-educating on natural health, have i been able to actually stay healthy. I believe doctors start out practicing with good hearts and intentions... but indoctrination takes over and their ability or willingness to apply their own minds no longer exists. Since the plandemic i have lost all faith in 'science and medicine' , and now i hope i can regain my faith in those who are qualified to diagnose and prescribe them.

Just… wanted to explain, this is a very dumb fucking take. You’re concerned about doctors because they have perverse incentives from pharmaceutical companies, I.E. they will place profit over proper treatment.
Now, as a side bar, I’d argue that’s definitely a thing but not nearly as prevalent as folks seem to think. Doctors often prescribe pills because they work and they work immediately. Would it be BETTER if patients dieted, ate non processed food and exercised? Yeah. But most people don’t do that and even if they WILL make the change, results take time.
But returning to Brecka being a shill, most of his Dana White hype is “hydrogenated water” that he sells, red light beds that he sells and magneto beds (that he sells).
Dana got TRT, ate better and got one of the best gym trainers in the business, THEN put in the hard work, which is testament to HIS willpower not Brecka’s snake oil.
Distrusting medical doctors because they might prioritize money over health makes no fucking sense when witch doctors have the same potential for greed but with vastly less legal oversight.

I'm on natural thyroid when I went on the carnivore diet. It’s essential to discern between the general, exploratory nature of discussions on platforms like podcasts and the precision required in clinical advice. Podcasts like Joe Rogan’s often touch on a wide array of topics and are meant to entertain and spark interest rather than serve as personalized medical guidance. Gary Brekka’s comments on being able to determine deficiencies from a cheek swab should likely be taken in the spirit of that setting-thought-provoking but not a substitute for thorough medical diagnosis.

But… and that’s a Big but, Gary’s the first person that got my attention and apparently a whole lot of people’s attention by directing us to some useful supplements to try after years of suffering. In other words, to all you phds, Gary started the much needed conversation and opened my eyes to new info to look into with my dr. Which is exactly what I did. My GP is now recommending a genome test. And Gary said it in much easier words for my layman’s brain to comprehend than what this guy is saying. Sounded at times like gobble do goop to me. I have Hyperhomocysteinemia Accelerated Atherosclerosis due to a number of gene polymorphisms, which includes MTHFR but also a few not normally mentioned. Thus includes dysfunction in processing folate from food, in processing choline into betaine, and in transportation of B12 from the blood stream into the cells. So far I've required five heart stents and one in my right leg femoral artery just in the past six years. My athersclerosis speeded up in late 2019 when put on proton pump inhibitors, causing my folate and B12 to plummet and my homocysteine to rise again. It was initially tested after my first heart stent in 2017, mainly as I don't have any conventional lifestyle-driven risk factors or comorbidities, and my homocysteine was 48 umol/L. Currently I've got it down to 13.5 umol/L.
BTW, wouldn't taking creatine and phosphatidylcholine be a better way to boost SAMe levels than taking SAMe if you have methylation dysfunction? SAMe can raise homocysteine while creatine and phosphatidylcholine helps lower it, as you would know, by leaving more SAMe methyl donors available for remethylating homocysteine into methionine.

I have a sickle cell anemic trait and have to take B12 daily but I was listening to different things Gary said on Joe Rogan about methylated B complex vitamins and its benefits, I think I would incredibly benefit from this after looking at various supplements and have bloodwork coming in 6 months so I didn’t think the extra things like B6, folate, and trimethylglycine would hurt to see what it does. I eat mostly animal based with fruits like dragon fruits and mangos.

Your argument from T4 to T3 is accurate the molecule itself doesn’t receive a methyl attachment while having the I cleaved so no methylation, this is where he is completely wrong.
However he may be partially correct.
    - deiodinases are a class of enzyme
This enzyme cleaves iodine from molecules to make them more active for different receptors.
-These enzymes are found in periphery tissue throughout the body.
-the lining of the stomach is periphery tissue and I believe does contain deiodinases.
-Therefore, some of this conversion does take place in the stomach.
Like you said though he is mostly wrong. T4 does have some innate action, tons of things work immediately when you consume them.
Otherwise aspirin and other drugs wouldn’t have an effect.
Glucose is another, the list goes on and on.
I digress, I’m sure this change from T4 to T3 is happening throughout bodily tissue.
I just felt that you should at least explain a more concept like the I is gone now it’s an H so he is wrong a little better.
By the way I love the video, I just felt like playing devils advocate a little.

    • @firstlovemusicmn
      @firstlovemusicmn 6 місяців тому

I wouldn't personally use them. Even if you don't have a gene mutation, folic acid blocks your body's methylation pathway. Folate, a natural form that is found in foods, would be better. Cyanocobalamin turns I'm to cyanide.
I personally did the methylation gene test and discovered I had a slow MTHFR and COMT. I started supplementing with a methylated b vitamin complex from Garden of Life and felt like a new person. I also took a nutritional deficiency test and I was deficient in b12, which again supported the fact that I struggle with my MTHFR gene.

On a low-carb or zero-carb diet, the liver produces exactly what is required for the brain, which is about 20% glucose, the other 80% is ketones. I have been on KETO for over 6 years, one year on strict carnivore, I felt great and I slept very very well. I switched to ketovore because I needed variety on my plate, like a salad, or cruciferous veg. Carnivore is hard to follow for me. Like I said, I feel great and sleep very well.
