I legitimately like Franziska. I enjoyed her character a lot. Again no one ranks her above Edgeworth or Godot, but I think she is well written.

Well, there's always an exception to prove the rule... Franziska is my second favorite prosecutor in the series (behind Klavier), and my favorite character of the original trilogy. Meanwhile, I find Godot extremely overrated - the only time I could bring myself to tolerate him was during his "moment" in the final case of T&T.
As for Edgeworth, well, I'll put him in third place. Above Blackquill, just because of his own games, but I actually didn't like him as much as I thought I would...

I rank her above Godot ironically because of, I think 3-4 and the AI games. That trial not only brought out more characterization to her (I mean i kinda love the almost childishness between both her and Edgeworth during the whole murder trial) but highlighted that she wasn't as strict as she portrayed herself as. Though I will admit, the second game did her a disservice since it made her come out as looking extremely young and very childish.

they could have done so much with Franziska's character! i often imagine how different JFA would be if they dove into how it was like being the child of Von Karma and how it impacted her personality, motivation, and goals. Maybe even a bit into her relationship with Edgeworth

Justice for all had a theme in it. "Doubting your client"
Thats why you don't know maggie
Why its understandable maya may be guilty
    Why Max is a douche
    And Engard
Knowing this I respect the game more, But they made everyone in bigtop annoying and mean, not just max.

      I disagree.
      1. We don't know Maggey, but the case is so easy that there's never any reason to doubt her.
      2. We know Maya already, so there's no reason to doubt her.
      3. Max is a douche but again, there isn't really an reason to doubt his innocence anymore than any other client in either game.
      4. Engarde.
Doubting your client is the theme of 2-4 that's it.

I'd argue if Maya was actually channeled by someone, then her killing isn't exactly her doing it but would be possible at least until Mia mentioned the dream. Like yea you aren't doubting max but you don't like him, seemingly as intended. The clients in this game are usually, from Phoenix's perspective, not as easy to trust or like.

At this point in the series, spirit channeling is still a strange and rare occurrence, so even if Maya was absolutely not in control in supposedly killing Dr. Grey, that logic wouldn't fly in the Judge's eyes, so you'd need to find another way.

Franziska had so much missed potential in her character. She was raised with the thought that she had to be the best in everything she did. She also became a prosecutor at 13, so she probably missed out on a lot of experiences during her life because of her family's weird god complex.
The last scene of JFA is one of my favorites because it shows Franziska as vulnerable. It reminds you that even though she's an excellent prosecutor, she's still a teenager. She still has feelings. She was still hurt by Manfred's terrible ideals in the long run.
I would have loved to see more of this side of Franziska, but unfortunately in both this game and t&t she's mostly just the funny overly confident semi-rival. I guess it makes sense considering she'd never show her vulnerabilities to Phoenix of all people, but it makes me sad how static her character is.

    • @darkacadpresenceinblood
      @darkacadpresenceinblood Рік тому +8

for me her appearances in here were fine because they set up that character arc - my issue is with them not going through with it. (maybe they do show this side of her in aai, haven't played those) like, they gave us Edgeworth's character development, saw we liked it, set up Franziska at the beginning of the very same journey of healing from Manfred's influence... then just yeeted her out of the games and never brought her back. i would've loved to see how her arc is similar/different to Miles' and also how the relationship of those two changes over time

    • @ZsNOTCute

This is semi-remied in AAI imo.
Not only do you see a younger Franz where she has yet to find as much self confidence and thus makes it more apparent that she's a bit sheltered
but they also remind you that despite what she wants you to believe, she really does have some sort of sisterly love for Edgeworth showing a (extremely slightly) more vulnerable version of herself.
Also it randomly makes a half reference to her older sister which isn't important I just feel it's fun that they'd do that and wanted to talk about it

It would be nice to see more development between her and Phoenix though. The fact that Phoenix not only was happy after losing the case, but he personally thanked her for bringing the piece of evidence that made him lose the case, for me that must have been a real eye opener for her. I don't think she ever was as malicious as her father, but she was too sheltered and didn't see the trials as something that had consequences for other people, only something that she had to win for her. During the last case she got a pretty heroic moment despite not having heroic intentions. She wanted to defeat Phoenix and found herself with the unexplained gratitude of his technically defeated rival, and it was probably the first time that she realized that she can help and save people with her actions, or in the case of Andrews, ruining them. I would have liked to see her same abrasive and competitive personality but oriented towards more heroic goals, she stroke me as someone who would be a fearsome prosecutor if she dropped the idea of winning at any costs against the idea of chasing the actual truth.

What I hated most about Justice For All was that I could always FEEL how rushed it was when I was playing. At several points the game gives you a bunch of evidence that can be used to answer a question, but the game only wants one specific piece. I know that's common throughout the AA series but the developers clearly didn't have enough time in JFA to get a feel of how to clue gamers in to the logic train they were on.
Every other game in the series did a much better job of guiding players down the path the developers were thinking than this one.

I like how intro cases can, not only work as a tutorial for newcomers, but also plant seeds for later events, which makes them important for the overall game. 3-1 does this, 4-1 is just one whole "WHOA WTH" situation, and other games follow along with that idea quite well imo. 1-1 and especially 2-1 however are just isolated tutorial cases without much interesting things going on, other than an introduction to a few recurring characters.
I love 2-2 so much that I basically like it as much as I like 2-4 lol, probably even more.
Case 2-3, even though there are a lot of concepts and ideas that I like, it deserves a lot of the shit it's getting partly due to how present and important the love triangle is to understanding the motives of many characters. Not only is Regina basically a child, but the way in which some characters are obsessed with her obliviousness and innocence is very creepy, sus if you will.
Cases 2-1 and 2-3 are also quite common cases to mention when it comes to non-believable leaps of logic.
I also agree that the lack of an overarching consistent idea or story, makes it one of the weakest games in the franchise.

I mean, I see your point, but actually no. I love Franziska. Can't choose between her and Edgeworth for the favourite prosecutor though, it's just not fair to compare them I think, her brother was given MUCH more time and attention (probably because the first game was pretty much about his redemption, as you mentioned).
But as for the reasons to find her memorable, well. Her relationships with other characters have so much potential for analysing? Her family is so fucked up in such a curious way. No wonder people still discuss the Von Karma household.
About that by the way. Yes, Franziska IS childish. And impatient, and hates loosing, and stubborn, and the list goes on. That's the point. I can't see her being any other way with her background actually. She was never given a chance to be a child, which is a common thing for child prodigies such as herself.
Also, her whole motivation to be here in Japanifornia in JFA is very nuanced and complicated. Like, really, if I begin to talk about her relationship with Edgeworth I won't shut up. Love the siblings.
But what's more, Franny grows over time and has actual development through the series. Especially we see it in investigations series, she was so great there! And it's so nice to see someone like Franziska grow, you know?
Um anyway, yeah, good video, because while I give JFA credit dor introducing Franny, they should have done a better job. Franziska von Karma deserved a better game, dammit

Concerning an overarching theme, I've always wondered if the problem was that there are three possible themes going on but the one that is most prominent is identity or "Why are you a lawyer?"
Yes, you don't know Maggey (or anyone) but the evidence you have certainly points to her. People gloss over the fact that Phoenix did immediately think she did it. That case hinges on Phoenix making an assumption about her character and , probably Gumshoe's word. We know Maggey is innocent, but really what did Phoenix know about her or any of the people in court. I mean, I've watched a few let's plays and it took many of them a while to figure out the spelling clue. And anyone who says that they didn't think that she could have accidentally knocked him over to his death is a liar.
Why are you a lawyer? So my client will know someone believes them.
The second is a common sense one. If two people are in a room, and only one comes out, who is the murderer then? For any investigator in AA, it's an open and shut case. The victim wasn't raising any sympathy points for anyone because he came off as a major douche canoe and the fact that he brought a loaded pistol into a closed room with him should have raised some eyebrows. It also doesn't help that Maya herself thinks she did it. Most of us were racking our brains to come up with Maya's innocence, because... its Maya. And even with all that, the conclusion was still surprising.
Why are you a lawyer? So my client will have someone to fight for their innocence.
The third was more on trying to figure out who and the hows of the murder. Max was a douche but many of the characters were not only a pain to deal with but infuriating to make any sense of what happened. With how distinct Max was and the amount of animosity he generated along with evidence of his temper, Why wouldn't he be at the top of the list? Plus with how everyone was, any of them could have easily been the murderer. Even Regina, with how ditzy she was, could have accidentally murdered her dad. ¬_¬
Why are you a lawyer? So my client will not have to go through this alone.
I should also mention, that Big Top is the first time that I ever felt that Phoenix was completely talking out of his ass during a case. Before this case, I always felt that his deliberations were him asking for more time to figure out a puzzle. That the answer was just out of his reach and he was just verbally connecting the dots so to speak. This case felt like he was throwing everything out there hoping something coherent came up.
The fourth case was such a sucker punch because, and I hate to say this, it subverted our expectations. All the previous episodes have gotten us used to working on the assumption that our client is innocent. We were used to winning and being on the good side, no matter the questionable nature of our clients. Plus, Matt came off as unassuming as all our previous clients. He desperately needed help, he was alone, and everyone was saying he was definitely guilty. All our usual methods made Engarde innocent. So, we take the case. And it's a complete shitshow.
The case outright demands us to do everything we're not supposed to do. Bully a weak person. Cause everyone to believe an innocent is guilty with evidence. Do anything for the desired outcome. We're expected to act like a 'prosecutor' and do the very thing that Phoenix has been snidely insinuating about his opponents. And we are expected to do it or risk the life of someone who is not only our friend but Pearls closest family member. It calls into question where Phoenix's actual conviction lie and what is his motivation.
I'd also like to point out that Edgeworth's return not only highlights this but he asks Phoenix about it. He lives up to his theme song by coming back a changed character. It sucks that his character development is off-screen, but the change is immediate. He's not the 'selfish coward' Phoenix has been railing against. Noo, he's a self-assured man who knows what he is after. The man peaking out of from 1-5 and who grew out of that child that stood up for 9 year old Phoenix. Meanwhile, we have Phoenix whose been insulting Miles and Franziska about their pride when it's his own pride that got him in this mess. He can't do his job because his client is guilty (something that really should have shown up a before now) but he also doesn't accept the help offered.

Honestly after playing Justice For All, it ended up being my favorite game in the OG trilogy and am surprised to learn it’s the least liked in the trilogy. For me it basically improved everything from the first game, which I already liked, since the investigation segments felt like less a slog, especially due to the addition of Psyche-locks giving more variety to the gameplay in those segments, and is a mechanic that would even be brought back in T&T and AJ to a certain degree. And then the courtroom sections felt more clearer and concise with their solutions (outside of some aspects of 2-3, which I’ll admit is pretty flawed.) Really, the only main issue I have with it is the third case is that it has some good ideas but very flawed execution (not only is the way Acro kills the ringleader entirely illogical, but the game gives *zero* indication of him hiding the bust in his wheelchair. Maybe there could’ve been a line of someone carrying it from his room and stating “huh, this’s heavier than expected,” but nope. Nada. And getting penalized for pressing Moe makes it by far the most obnoxious cross-examination in the series.)
But then again, each Ace Attorney game has at least one weak case, such as case 3 from the the first game and case 2 from the third, and ESPECIALLY case 3 from AJ. And the criticism of JFA not having an overarching story is something I never really understood, since case 1, 3 and 5 don’t really have anything to do with eachother in thhe first game, and the only ones really connected are case 2 and 4. And last but not least, Franziska might not be as complex as Edegeworth or Godot, but I still found her entirely entertaining with how entertaining and gung-ho she is about whipping others, even her own clients. And despite considering Phoenix her enemy, she’s still willing to aid him, such as how she helps to brings the decisive evidence for case 4.
Overall, I could see why someone could consider this the weakest AA game or one of the weakest, as it’s by far the simplest in terms of its writing and themes and has a obnoxious and long case wedged between two great ones. But for me personally, it’s my favorite out of the trilogy since it’s what got me to truly love and appreciate the series, especially with the rollercoaster ride that’s case 4, especially since it actually giving an interesting moral dilemma for Phoenix. Perhaps I’m in the minority, but whatevs.

i always thought this too if im being real. justice for all was my introduction to the series in general so it really resonated with me. you’re right with turnabout big top and its whole pedophile dynamics and court tactics being terrible though, i don’t even wanna elaborate on that because of how much it disappointed me. looking back at the introductory case, i can understand why people say its bad (i personally liked it though) but its kinda funny seeing the gumshoe and maggey interactions from rise to the ashes all the way to 2-3. reunion and turnabout was a whole turning point for the game, introduced the magatama and three major characters that’ll be important for the lore. case 4 was also amazing that deserves a whole essay

Von Karma was really annoying IMO. Even for the weirdness of the AA universe court system, the whip stretched the suspension of belief beyond breaking point. It's been a while since I played this one, but I remember her threatening witnesses with it (even whipping one of them, when Gumshoe was on the stand, IIRC) which felt off. But threatening the judge? And not facing any reprimand for that? At one point she whips Phoenix into unconsciousness in the courtroom in front of the judge and faces absolutely no consequence for it. Given Phoenix can get a penalty for being disrespectful it felt way too far.

yeah it definitely doesn't make any sense whatsoever but it does sort of work with the concept of Phoenix Wright. these games are criticisms of Japanese court laws where instead of innocent until proven guilty, it's the opposite. prosecutors are the ones who win most the time and the court often sides with them more. I'm guessing the whole whip thing could be a metaphor that she's the one running the show, shes the one in charge, kind of like an animal tamer or horse rider. they definitely took it to the extreme and it's very easy to see how you were annoyed, but that's somewhat the point

I don't think there's any room to argue, that there was ever a shred of realism in the series. And that's not a criticism, I'm just making the point, that I don't see how realism is an argument for anything in this series.

She is deeper than she is credited for:
Daughter to the GOD of prosecutors, she wants to be equal to Miles, but due to her name she is forced to be this way.
She found out her father killed her brothers father; having an affect on their relationship clearly. She can’t grieve with the only member of her family (mentioned as a character).
Also, would you want it if she grew? Surface answer: Yes!
But think, she’d be a female Edgeworth. Same character with the same growth.
Why can’t people enjoy a snobby arrogant teenager as a character?! Not everyone has to be DEEP!
Franziska bon Karma feels inferior, face it, she has never won a trial since battling PW, she was raised by a God, and is sister to “The Demon Prosecutor”, the stress of success must be immense!
And, although younger, she has more experience than Edgeworth! So to be humiliated in such a manner is demeaning! Furthermore, if she had wo in Case 4, I think she would have grown out of her petty ways. She gets what she wants, she no longer acts this way! Boom, growth and it’s not Edgeworth with a whip!

"she'd be a female Edgeworth" precisely why i want her story to be expanded on! BECAUSE it's basically the same development, and it would be super interesting to see both the differences in how they handle their very similar situations (for example, Miles had the morality he learned from Gregory to turn back to when he freed himself from the influence of Manfred, Franziska has no such thing yet, how she develops it would be cool to see) and maybe how Miles helps her since he walked pretty much the same path

@@darkacadpresenceinblood I mean, you can kind of see how she changes in the investigations games, especially the second one. Even though her personality remains the same, her values kind of shift and is much more willing to accept different opinions and help you out. She becomes less obsessed with perfection and more preoccupied with the truth. That said, we never really see how that change happens, since it's implied it was when she went abroad after JFA, and it wouldn't really make sense to focus so much on her story since she's a supporting character. I will say however, that it would've been cool to explore how she really feels about her father after everything that happened, maybe not an entire case, but at least in a conversation with Miles about how Manfred impacted in both of their lives, and how he ended Gregory's life over his obsession with 'perfection'. Would've been a cool and emotional moment.

Mimi miney in case 2 really highlights this. She didn’t get justice when the evil doctor drugged her and led to her sister dying, so in a way she “killed herself” to be someone else and got justice for her past self AND her sister.

I think I've got sort of an idea of how to improve the second games structure:
There's two plot points to think about in JFA: The Fey Bloodline which I always find interesting myself, and the Moral question of what is justice. Neither of these are tackled outside of cases 2 or 4 so they should be tackled in cases 1 and 3 instead.
For case 1, it needs to focus on moral ideals, which can be the running theme: Have wright have multiple evidence to finish the trial, one that ends it swiftly but has moral implications and another that leads to a longer line but is a sweeter victory. It would make it so a second playthrough you could see how your actions affect the people involved in the case and have you question your methods throughout the game especially in the final trial.
Case 3 should place an emphasis on the Fey bloodline, and have more of a focus on Von Karma's character so she can reaffirm her beliefs and get fleshed out more than just a "I whip people" kind of character. I've always been a sucker for thrones and bloodlines in the way the Fey family works, but I think something more simplistic would make more sense since it is the break case. I haven't completely thought about this one though.

I think JFA gets a bad rap for having weaker cases overall (1 & 3). I actually liked all its cases a lot save for Big Top, which honestly might be my least favorite case in the series.
Rather than hyper analyzing what JFA does rough, I wanna point out what JFA gets right. First of all, it introduces Franziska. She comes in with a clear motivation and YMMV funny gimmick. Her rivalry with Edgeworth is what makes her especially standout, however. This game also introduced the magatama + psyche-locks, which allowed for additional puzzles outside the court room. It establishes important context for the Kurain tradition and the Fey family succession drama.
While some might call it lazy, I really like how the cases of the sequel parallel the first game. Cases 1 are about an unlucky lover framed for their late partner's murder. Cases 2 feature Mya being framed for murder and the fight to prove her innocence. Cases 3 are showbiz workplace vendettas. Cases 4, while not quite as parallel in terms of scenario are both really good finales in their own respects.
There also was a good thematic through line. Each case felt centered around deception and doubt in the client. But the final case (which is one of my personal favorites) asks the player directly to determine whether the actual villain of the case (your client) be proclaimed "innocent" or "guilty". This doesn't actually alter the course of the case, but it's framed to be indicative of what being a defense attorney "means" to the player. Which is such a cool twist. More like that please. I could further rhapsodize about JFA, but I think that about does it for now

Phoenix 2 isnt particulary bad, but is also not impressive and all of the new ideas were screwed up due to a poorly implemented life system. This is a game that seems to have a common consensus of being bad to the point that people rarely explain why. Even after this video, I still feel the game does more right than it gets credit for. Were I to dial in on one aspect, I really appreciated the nuance that Franziska brought as a prosecutor. Up to that point (assuming you've only played the first game before this), you've faced prosecutors who were more than willing to bend the rules, abuse their positions, or disregard the truth if it meant getting closer to a guilty verdict. I feel like Franziska relied a lot more on logic and sound reasoning to get through her trials, as well as doing her research on any related subjects. It sets her apart both from Edgeworth and her father's prosecuting styles where they'd pull out every trick in the book to score a win (though of course Edgeworth's character does change over time). A particular moment that stood out to me was in Farewell, My Turnabout where she instructs Adrian not to testify. At first, I was under the impression that she was intimidating a witness just to make the prosecution's case stronger. Later, it seemed more like she was aware of the emotional distress that Adrian was under and what the potential ramifications of her testifying would be, so she was trying to protect her.

I don't think having all the cases being connected is needed for a good story telling, though it's a major bonus if done well. Interactive Stories bought up an idea that all the cases in JFA are thematically connected. Each villain of each case are increasingly sympathetic, making the killers and dilemma feel less black and white. It's then accumulated to the last case, where it throws a twist on who's the villain.
Case 3 is a mixed bag. The whole marriage thing flew over my head, and I just accept the characters being so eccentric because it's a circus. I enjoy some of the funny moments, and like how Acro is done. I would say his reasoning for murder is just him driven to snapping and being too far gone to have second thoughts about killing his intended target, which is pretty much a unique motive for this whole franchise even now. A lot of murders in real life occurred when the killer is not in a right state of mind.
This game is flawed. No doubt about it, but I have a soft spot for it.

My biggest unpopular opinion is that I think Franziska is absolutely a better character than Godot, and it really just comes down to their personality and what backs it. Both are over confident and condescending to the player and phoenix. With Franzy she had a reason to have it out for Phoenix and she had a perfect conviction record before meeting Phoenix. Meanwhile Godot has a perfect loss record, which means that his confidence feels entirely unjustified in his condescension towards Phoenix. I also think Godot's motivation is the worst of any prosecuter, he blames Phoenix for Mia's death.
Yeah I know it's a major unpopualr opinion but I really don't care. Godot is just so overrated when he's the same as all the other prosecutors

Especially because the circus is failing, it heightens everyone’s need to stay relevant and start putting each other down to prove individual talents. Which is why no one seems to like each other or be helpful to players. It’s telling a tale of a family who, without the success of the binding force that is the circus industry, is starting to crumble and turn their backs on one another. The 2nd case of JFA is way better than the 2nd case of T&T. JFA has the best 2nd case of the trilogy and I think most of us can agree. 2nd case of T&T was filler and it seemed like it dragged on.
Francheska never had a case that was about her the way that edgeworth Had with DL-6 and godot had with the final case. So francheska seems underdeveloped. If she had a story lined with the final game JFA would be much more liked. Ppl just hate francheska when she offers so much in a courtroom, very enjoyable, more enjoyable to me than godot.
It’s very interesting how T&T has filler/dragged on cases with 2 and 3, but because of the beginning and ends, it makes up for it. JFA just has its best cases in the middle and end with 2-2 and 2-4.

Honestly the last case was the only one I genuinely enjoyed. It was a breath of fresh air to be defending someone that is in reality a shitty guy, who killed another equally shitty guy.
It added a nice bit of reality to the game which is something that Ace Attorney has a tendancy to miss. Don't get me wrong, I love how absurd it can be, but there are times where I do enjoy something a bit more grounded in reality, and that last case was just that.
Granted the stuff with the killer required a lot of belief suspension, but the characters not being good people was a nice subversion.
Also Edgeworth was on point in that case. Man was really out here roasting Phoenix during that whole case and I was here for it.

Personally wish Recipe for Turnabout was able to be added to jfa like originally planned. I think the inclusion of that case would give jfa a more connected plot that ties into Phoenix's arc in Farewell. Phoenix not only has to fight for Maggie, a character we know is innocent given how we met her in the first case, but Phoenix's reputation and undisputed win record is introduced when Tigre threatens that by impersonating him. Recipe, if taken place before Farewell like planned, sets up Phoenix's perspective on being an attorney and how it will be challenged going forward

  • @lpfan4491
    @lpfan4491 2 місяці тому

I feel as though I agree with the video's concludion and the biggest issue really is is that JFA does not really have a "main plot". In the first game, it was everything to do with Edgeworth and the lingering shadow of DL6 and in the third game, it is sorta split in half between Dahlia and the mystery of how Godot fits into the narrative. For an example outside the trilogy, AJ is about Phoenix and his 7 year-shift in life due to Kristoph's shenanagans.
JFA has...what? The mystery of what happened to Edgeworth after he left? That's not really a main plot, it is just emotional baggage for Phoenix and Franciska and resolves itself the moment Miles returns of his own accord. It is not material enough as a plot to be considered a main plot. T&T retroactively marks case 2 as the "mainplot" for the purposes of connecting the trilogy as a cohesive work, but that is not exactly how that works.
I'd still say JFA is a good game because it has enough thematic substance to work and the tension is case 4 is legendary, but it is easy to see why it is considered less popular among fans. It is quite literally just a collection of cases thrown your way, rather than there being some sort of plotbased throughline to grasp at for most of the game. People say they don't like the "filler cases" in other games, but this game is essencially "filler case: the game" by the same metric.

She didn’t make a reappearance in the new games, so it’s probably because nobody likes her so they dropped her. If the next AA games comes sometime in the future, one way I would reintroduce her would be:
Phoenix and the others wonder where Franziska is and Edgeworth coldly remarks, “Franziska Von Karma, is no longer a part of our lives.” And he explains that a long time ago, she was involved in a criminal case where she was defeated miserably. And that was when she snapped under extreme anger and dishonorment that she attacked the guilty party. Ashamed she ran out of the courtroom never to be seen again. “That day,” Edgeworth says. “She lost her badge along with her honor and dignity. I haven’t seen or heard from her since.” Later, Phoenix and the others discover Franziska in a bar a shell of her former self, drinking herself to misery and still wielding that whip of hers. Phoenix gives her a chance to redeem herself and get back on her feet by helping her win the case she failed years ago. She does but is reluctant working with Phoenix at first. Eventually, Phoenix manages to finally melt her bitter frozen heart and she sees him as her friend. She also eventually makes amends with Edgeworth as well.

Imagine if the first case wasn’t as much of a tutorial. Imagine Richard Wellington with psyche locks or the ring of con artists that he’s a part of playing a part in the plot. I love to compare the fact that he comes off as falsely rich (due to the fact that if you think about it he only has money from conning people) in comparison to Matt Engarde and Maximillion Galactica. Both of the latter guys obviously have money due to being famous but Wellington was found in a park without a watch and had the same phone as Phoenix. I have probably over thought that though.

If there's any prosecutor who deserves a second game to continue their story, it's Franziska von Karma. She's an incredibly deep character whose motivations are very complex and interesting, but it takes a lot of reading between the lines to be able to see that. I'm actually in the process of making a fan game of my own and I picked her as the main prosecutor the moment I decided to do so. She deserves a proper character arc and a place in the main story. I actually challenged myself to not let her use the whip unless it's unavoidable for maximum comedic potential, and that's gone pretty well so far. I only hope I can do her... well, justice. I wish we'd gotten to see her more and it would have been nice to see her develop into someone people wanted to see return. I was thrilled to see her again in T&T, and I only hope that, if we ever get another Ace Attorney game, she'll finally return. But given the atrocious writing after AJAA, that seems unlikely. I'm at least glad she escaped that fate, because in all honesty, she's a character that only works when written by a competent writer.

after having dropped it for the first time I played it, I finally finished the JFA the day before yesterday. it is undoubtedly a game far inferior to the first one. I don't hate it or think it's bad, it's just a regular game, while the first game is awesome. In my opinion, there are several points where the game fails. I think some cases have very interesting but poorly presented stories, plus the fact that many court sessions have been extremely flawed, with lots of evidence that seems correct to present but is not accepted and extremely specific points to press. As a personal opinion, I didn't like Franziska and I thought that the whip that was supposed to be a comic relief somehow broke the tension of the game. It's also down to personal opinion, but I think the characters seem a little out of character, with some dialogues that don't flow so naturally.

I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about, The Lost Turnabout is EASILY the best game in the entire series
When I first played through the series, I regarded it as the least memorable case in the series. How foolish. I couldn't even remember it's existence when listing off all the cases
Only recently, while replaying the series with a friend, have I finally come to see how great of a case it is
The second time, you may think, "Ah, this case again," but worry not, my save file corrupted and I had to play through it a third time!! It really started to come together then, but I was still not fully aware of its magnificence. Thank the gods, because my save file corrupted yet again. The Lost Turnabout truly comes together on the fourth playthrough
The deep moving motivations of the series's best antagonist; Richard Wellington
The tragic tale of Maggey Byrd's endless misfortune
The untimely death of the great police man, Dustin Prince MAY HE REST IN PEACE 🙏
From the hilarious gags (THOSE WE'REN'T BANANAS!!!!! Oh what a fool, what a trickster, what a silly little nearsighted man) to the anxiety that shot through me every time we made any progress because I made the mistake of setting my alarm for waking up to the pursuit theme of this game.
It is TRULY the best case in the series. Truly a gift that keeps on giving. And giving. And giving.
We shall see if it continues to give once more when we continue the game in the fall
    Amen 🙏

I really like the second game and i think that all case except for the first one are important to this game, i'll explain why i think that. I really think that this game wasn't going for a overarching plot o something needed all the cases to be related in some form, the first case also the worst one for me because of the amnesia thing is the only one that i can see replaced o erased and everything will be fine, but the third one i think is necessary.
Here is what i think about the other 3 cases, if we clearly take away the set up that the second case make for the third game, then you can notice that through all the cases starting from this one we never stop using the Psych-locks, to the point that i think phoenix become almost dependant of this for his cases, reaching the point of trusting in them without even thinking twice, this play an important part in case 2-4 because he use them to proof to himself that his client is innocent and all of that builds up to the final reveal of the Real Matt Engarde, finally addressing the "Always believe in your client" that phoenix blindly follows and how dependant he became of the Psych-locks. So I really think that 2-3 was made to do this, after all during those times the Psych-Locks never failed. But that's just my opinion

This is really interesting. I’ve actually genuinely never heard anyone dislike JFA before, and I’ve seen a lot of AA streams and talk to a lot of people about AA. I personally don’t like Franziska all that much, but that never deterred me from the game. I even liked the Berry Big Circus case, which I know most people hate (I just didn’t know that it was common for people to hate the game as a whole). I feel like the entire trilogy builds up in intensity nicely. Honestly, after playing JFA, the first game seemed boring to me by comparison. The first game cases were interesting when I didn’t play the other games, but once I saw what AA was capable of in JFA, the original game paled in comparison (in a way, though the experience is still incomparable of playing AA for the first time though).
Edit: The cross-examination and court music for JFA are also some of the best songs in the entire series imo.

Great video! I feel that it summarize most of my exact thoughts. The game isn't necessarily hated but it comes off as the weakest in the trilogy. What I prefered about the first game was that it felt like it actually took place in the real world, even with its eccentric characters. In JFA the whackiness and the supernatural stuff has taken over too much (which is also a big reason why Dual Destinies is pure garbage). As for Franziska von Karma, she is among the bottom of the prosecutors in the series, for the simple reason that she always has to resort to physical violence to get her points across.

imo Pursuit - Questioned is the best of the pursuit themes. It's the most dramatic and extreme of them all. It's not only about cornering the witness, but it conveys the feeling of the whole courtroom being in chaos because all of the assumptions and expectations surrounding the case have been subverted and turned fully on its head. It also fits well with how Phoenix presents the absolute craziest theories that turn out to be true. He's basically saying: "Even though what I propose is absolutely insane and almost unbelievable, given the facts, you absolutely CANNOT deny the possibility!". It's probably not the most iconic one, but it's the one that gives me the most "shit just got real" vibes out of the pursuit themes. It also ties in amazingly with Hotline of fate which gives it extra points imo. I freaking love Justice for All
