Awesome 5 minute review! You are making one of the best stuff about Chinese cars and NIO on the entire internet! Keep them coming and we are waiting for a more comprehensive ET5 review! Cheers
Understood. Will is also from the UK, in China he has a NIO ET7, so he hopes NIO can expand to the UK quickly becuase he also wants to buy a NIO in the UK. Hopefully they will aim at RHD markets soon and you can buy an ET5 in the UK :)
Wrong, it does not sell at all here in Europe. The sales you can count on two hands. Regular people can't afford it. Battery rentals have been tried in Europe and failed hard. Rich people care about branding, and do not want or don't even know about Nio and just standard always drive German car brands. Look at my top management what do they drive? Top end Mercedes, Audi and BMW EV's. And one of them drive Jaguar i-pace too. But most of them i knew from long time, and before they always bought Audi or BMW before when they bought gasoline cars. Another thing: never in history did an Asian country was able to sell luxury models in Europe. NEVER. The Japanese failed, the koreans failed. Because of the story i told you. Rich Europeans want luxury german. End of story.
@@HermanWillems two hands won't do it. NIO sold more than 1250 ES8's in Norway alone so far and NIO themselves expect less than 10K car sales in Europe in 2023. EV's are the future and the advantages that BBA had are all eroding as the age of the ICE cars comes to an end.
@@HermanWillems how 37 thousads can no afford. it costs less than Peugeot 408. yes you rent batttery with this price but with Peugeot you pay gasoline. plus subsidues from goverments come up to 10.000 eur so it is 27.000
Finally NIO came to understaning that they need to sell to a broader consumers market and this model nailed it. Bellow 50K Eur premium sedan, looks sporty and elegant, faster than regular Porsche Panamera that needs 4,4 seconds to 100 KMh and this thing needs only 4s. Cosidering looks, comfort and technology all this for price that average buyer can afford this should be the best seller. Why one would buy Porsche for 120k eur that is slower than NIO? and you need to pay the fuel
@@ChinaDriven Yes it will take some time for people to realize that a product from China is superior to many other products. China is very proud of NIO and wants it to be known around the world as a premium product.
@@ChinaDriven I can tell you from top end managers at my company. They normally drove Audi, BMW and Mercedes which are in the same "price range" as NIO. Looking at the current prices of NIO in my country(Netherlands). What did those managers buy? Not Tesla, Not Japanese, Not Korean. All those are for regular people which maybe can afford up to 45K euro EV's. (like me) The richer, and top end managers all just choose to stay brand loyal and just buy BMW, Audi and Mercedes but than just the EV version or model that was available. They probably never heard of Nio, they probably would never try it out. And they are super loyal to the brand they love. Can i ask you one question: Why did ANY yes ANY luxury model from Japan or Korea fail in Europe? Same exact reason. These rich Europeans will NEVER buy Luxury Japanese car, or Korean car... and also certainly not Chinese. They have the money to spend, they will buy German. It's branding it fits with their managers role.
For those who don't know 'BaaS' stands for Battery As A Service, so as Will stated it's renting a battery. The semi-solid-state battery is a game changer, it makes me wonder what the absolute limit of a battery is. Great review, I like leather though totally cool with the faux version. Keeping LiDAR is the way to go, NIO has the upper hand and would pick an ET5 over any TESLA any day of the week. $NIO
Correct on the BaaS. Just decided “battery as a service “ doesn’t make sense to a lot of people and with the very tight timing explaining it as renting a battery is easier to understand. for the “faux leather” I assume you mean the door cards? if so then it’s not faux leather. it’s full on rubber.
We had battery renting in Europe and it failed hard. Especially the french loved this Battery as a service. But it never catched on. When my collogue wanted a new battery from the service they just paid him an X price for his vehicle and then took his vehicle. Many more cars where BaaS, and it all failed and now nobody does it anymore. It's a failed concept.
Love this car so much...but that massive width of 196cm is really going to cause issues in Dutch cities with our narrow streets and parking spaces. Really torn about that.
We are in China. these are straight conversions from Chinese RMB to USD. It allows comparisons to other brands and models in China that do not have European pricing. But you are correct prices will vary on your local market. There also seems to be differences in pricing between European countries.
I think battery swap will disappear as charged times reduce and batterys get cheaper. Also I think Neo are too expensive in Europe & probably US people... expect a Chinese be 2/3 the price of domestic vehicles...eg the cheap MG4 selling like hotcakes due to its price/performance.
So swapping provides other advantages not just fast recharge time. Updated battery chemistries for example. NIO updated the 70kWh pack to a 75kWh hybrid pack with 5kWh of LFP for better cold weather performance. This year is the start of the semi solid state battery. So in the future in theory they could make a 75kWh semi solid state pack and you could swap that into your car! Also if the pack goes bad in your EV that’s expensive fix. NIOs can just drop the bad battery out easily and swap in a new one… As for the pricing. I see both way. I get what you are saying. But from our discussions with OEMs they see what is in the European market and price their vehicle accordingly. Most aren’t looking to come in and play the cheap game that the Japanese and Koreans did. They think they have better tech so they should charge based on competitors in the market.
It makes me think again at the half-price the geometry at 18k did you say.. ok the geometry is nowhere as good/nicea car. but maybe it's better when you really consider what it does give you for that price.. if the price stay the same for Europe starting 40k .. I think that is Zeeker001 will be the best/value 🤔 .. it seems Geely are hitting the price point.
Supposedly Next Gen Geometry vehicles will be going abroad. like everything it depends what you need/want. But I get the disappointment of those in Europe when they hear the prices in China. But in China imported foreign cars are crazy expensive with import and normally luxury tax.
I agree yr points about battery/replacement if faulty or better battery tech becomes available.. battery inovation is fast .. battery has warranty, some good, some not so good .. I think the most compelling point you make is if battery tech makes giant leap and you can swap you yr Neo battery for the new tech 🎉 .. I'm still doubtful though about swap .. the cost of building the swapping station infrastructure also. We live in amazing time for transport evolution it's exciting to watch.. and quite enjoyable to see legacy struggle .. imo they've been trying to suppress BEVs for 30 or 40 years in conjunction with big oil... And for dieselgate.. well that proves they lie😮
Before you ask this question, you should leave a message and ask Tesla in the United States to see if the US government has set up a background for Tesla to monitor users all over the world. After all, people all over the world now know that the United States is monitoring the world. , even their allies.
Looks really good. Waiting for the wagon version

May I ask, what NIO house (or space) did you film this? I love the EP9 background image.
