  • NIO is coming to Europe. They will enter the market with a premium sedan: the ET7. It will rival cars from Mercedes-Benz, BWM, Audi and Tesla. It has a party trick: it can swap it's battery in only 5 minutes. In this review I'll tell you everything you need to know about this new electric car from China.

Just think.... In a couple of years time when your conventional EV's battery is starting to lose its efficiency, you'll always have a new tested battery in your NIO. Also, when new battery tech comes along you get it seamlessly! Have you seen how much it costs to replace the batteries in a conventional EV? Tesla £22'000 and Mercedes £45'000. NIO gets a new one every time you choose to swap it. Genius.

I agree with your point but have to mention that the batteries for swaping are definitly not BRAND NEW. Anyway I believe that NEO will let the health of the batteries stay at an ok level.

For battery swap, the owner of the car does not own the battery. The car owner rents the battery from a service company who operates the swap stations. So as a owner you do not really care about the battery status. If you do not like the one in your car, just go to the station and get another one. In this way, because the car owner does not pay for the battery, the cost will be greatly reduced to owner. Moreover, there could be different lease terms on the battery. For example, you can have a monthly lease, or you can have pay-as-you-go. It is much more flexibile to users.

Well it's not exactly a new one every time. However customers are essentially ensured a battery that is in good condition & is maintained by NIO. It's a fabulous idea because we all know that we aren't even close to having batteries that don't degrade & charge fast enough now. 👍👍

If you put that aside and actually look at the car, geez, it's amazing. I mean the design for me looks way better than the Tesla. And the built quality, interior feels so luxurious, rechargeble batteries and the software is great. I mean, just imagine if this was a western company and judge it. Chinese cities are NOT smogged like that today things have changed massively. Still improvements to make but the country is totally different than what it was 10 years ago.
Here are some examples you can watch here on UA-cam from
Katherine's Journey to the East "Environmental education in China"
New China TV "Witnessed by Satellites: Solar panels turn desert into oasis"
Luca&Rachele 路卡和瑞丽 "The Secret Behind China's Green Future: What if we Covered Kubuqi Desert With Solar Panels?"
Travel at Home "[4KHDR]china 4k walk 2022 | Travel at home Walk in ECO-Technology Park ShenZhen Bay" When watching this
look for the Green number-plates on cars those are electric, Blue is petrol/diesel. I find 1440 option is a sharper image than 2160 but they may depend on your screen and internet speed.

i will buy it only if i can charge the batteries myself at home and swapping the battries myself if the batteries are located under the boot or under the bonnet and the battries are in smaller pieces, let say if the large battery under the car is around 50kg then the battries for the boot or bonnet will be 10 pieces and weighing 5kg each then i can do everything myself.

...and the 1000 KM autonomy will probably drop to a usable 700 KM. By all mean the car is gorgeous, but the European driver hates limits. The concept that you need to swap batteries every 1000 KM or much less, will keep away many would be buyers. We are spoiled, and this concept kills our way of life. Just think in a couple of years time when the batteries will be very used , it would greatly piss me off if I have to find a willing service station and I understand they are very limited too, willing to change my battery at 2 o'clock in the middle of the night, after barely 500 KM drive on a new battery. It will never work.

NIO outside of China, Norway and Germany becomes an empty trash can because it cannot be updated, it does not communicate via the Internet with your mobile application, you cannot use all the functions of this car due to this limitation. in this regard, Tesla and BYD are better.

The one who laughs last, laughs loudest. Nio WILL compete with BMW, Mercedes and audi. These 3 produce great cars, no argument here. But they are legacy auto makers great at producing ICE vehicles, which is so yesterday, meaning you are wallowing in history. Come EVs productions, they have no experience, prestige, traditions, history to boast or fall back on. EVERYONE is at the same starting line - fair, square n even.
