Back in the 80s the vegan lie was you could eat healthy and cheap on a vegan diet. I had all the literature on combining whole grains, etc. So not a white diet.
    The results.
Weight gain, even though not over eating.
Made my gluten intolerant, which I had since age 5 and was finally diagnosed at 47 worse. The semi vegan food pyramid was just as bad.
My gut became massive. Always in pain. The chronic constipation I had since childhood became worse. I at more Albran as a child than most people eat in a lifetime. The growing pains, arthritis in my knees became worse.
Had PMS, for the only time in my life. It became a massive issue with the semi vegan death diet known as the food pyramid.
    Depression
The hunger shakes I had from childhood became worse. If you can eat an apple on a empty stomach and you are more hungry, you are carb sensitive. If you get the hunger shakes, low blood sugar, you are very carb sensitive. I could have not fasted on the vegan death diet.
It is when my morning body temperature went from 98.6 to 94. It took 10 years on a human, low carb diet to bring it back to normal. Then I regained my eyebrows.

*Oh what a refreshing voice of intelligence, sanity and empathy.* THANK YOU. I am so tired of the petty and often brutal tribalism and endless attacking from all sides. One against vegans. The other against carnivores. And all the ignorant blabbering in-between. You Sir, are probably one of the few experts that understand how to fit all the puzzle pieces. SO many people today are dogmatic without knowledge and can not grasp shades of grey in between the black and white. I measure the other "experts" against your wisdom and ALWAYS choose your advice when in doubt. You're Tough Love peppered with trustworthy brilliance. THANK YOU.

I was a keto-vegetarian for years. It worked just fine, though muscle mass was difficult to build for me, I had no trouble losing weight. I did not eat any starchy food, grains, or sugar. I now prefer a more animal-heavy diet, but still eat some vegetables for completeness in micro-nutrients without using supplements.

What a relief to have found this video.
There are many people from certain cultures who have never eaten animal products(+/- dairy). It would be impossible for them to eat suddenly now in their life for metabolic heath. This video would be so helpful for them to still attain metabolic health by reducing carbs and increasing fats.
This video is a must watch for them.
DrCywes has nailed it in this video that it’s not about evangelizing diets but approaching it with common sense.
    Thank you Thank you!!!

I did carnivore for a year and a half….there were several things that got better, but they were minor. Several things that just wouldn’t get better, and few that were worse. I recently started experimenting and added plant foods. I definitely realized that I can eat plants OK now, but not carby ones. I do feel better than when I was doing carnivore. Not saying that’s the perfect diet, but maybe I just needed a really slow transition and carnivore was too fast.

Thank you so much Dr Cywes, for this very balanced video content. Much appreciated. Now please can those commenting take note with regards to the diet fanaticism/evangelism you've mentioned that I see so often in the comments section of most videos on diet produced on You Tube ... these not helpful, they are often hurtful, unkind and cruel, simply because of the "hatred" and prejudices folks have towards other peoples diet choices. I'm not trying to be unkind here. We all need to be respectful of diet diversity as no one size fits all. Use food to nourish our bodies and minds, be open to change, be accepting of diversity. We don't have to agree with everyone, but we do need to be respectful of everyone. Thank you

There is a lot of backlash among low carb dieters. I have been low carb for 28 years. I have caught a lot of shit from everybody who was not low carb my entire life. It is really hard not to give some of it back. I walked the walk and no one gave a shit. And their health sucks and at 73 years old, mine is pretty damn good.
Yes it is possible to eat a high plant based diet and be healthy. But it is vastly harder to do it. And for all of those who want to sanction it, all they do is encourage those who can’t eat plants to keep doing it. I can’t get any of my family members to change when they desperately need to.

  • @josephnebeker7976

I'm glad you made this video. I've been wanting something like this from someone in the Low Carb/Carnivore community for a while now.
While I am extremely low carb hypercarnivore, I know one person personally and of another person connected to a close family member who both get sick if they eat meat and animal products, including milk.
Only two people, but enough for me to know that there are those who cannot metabolically tolerate animal foods, but do very well on plant foods.
While you didn't go into that specifically, I did like that you pointed out that some vegetarians can eat healthily, if they do it right.
I have decided that I have no problem with a vegetarian who has a medical aversion to eating meat, but have found myself very critical of those who don't eat animals for the sake of animals, especially knowing that plant farms tend to indiscriminately and unknowingly kill extremely large numbers of animals.

Sometimes people who have been vegan/vegetarian for years do NOT have the necessary gut bacteria to digest meat. They lack the needed microbiome to digest it -- so it causes distress. Like all drastic changes, take baby-steps at first.

Are there any cultures that have survived on strictly vegan diets? I don’t know of any. It seems impossible without modern conveniences such as vegan-friendly B12 supplements.
Allowing eggs and dairy makes a huge difference.
In practice, yes, eggs mean the death of most male chickens. Chickens are omnivorous and would eat humans happily if we were small and stupid enough to catch: they commonly eat the smaller mice that try to steal chicken feed, and in wartime it’s not unknown to see hens feeding on dead humans. I know, I know, we must be MORE NOBLE than poultry and not even eat their eggs, because whatever beliefs drive people to veganism…

After 3 decades working in plant crop agriculture, there is no doubt in my mind that any type of row crop agriculture, even sustainable organic, which is what I did, is remotely better for the environment than responsibly raised, grassfed livestock.

Ok. You've asked to leave comment. Here is my. Vegan diets lack specific peptides like carnitine and carnosine. Very important peptides which are synthesised in the body from precursors, but in insufficient amounts in adulthood. Especially if one has heart disease, ocular disease or kidney disease. You won't find these in plants, they're purely meat content. You can supplement them, but supplementation (excluding periods of leveling deep deficienties) always shows us that diet in not natural and unsustainable in long term without producing disesease or disfunction. The same applies to vitamin B12 and real vitamin A. There are no pure-plant based sources of these. However, if someone loves so much animals that wants to sacrifice one's own health or even life, let him/her do it.

I can’t seem to get an answer to this tho… Since Jan this year I have been basically on some form of low carb / ketovore diet, done well and lost some weight (tho now stalled). I do eat leafy greens and low carb veggies. But I now apparently have Xerostoma… very dry mouth. I do drink 2-3 packs of no sugar electrolytes and use plenty of salt, but it hasn’t helped. Do I have a hope of getting back my spit?! This happens mostly at night but not exclusively, and I do use Xylitol melts and gum. Will this ever come back… maybe if I add a few more carbs? This definitely started after I did a month or two of carnivore dieting :( I have seen other people with this issue but few videos from a MD - carnivore perspective.

    Allow me to explain...
Animals like cows can eat grass only with the help of bacteria in their stomachs. Yes, it is the bacteria which "eats" the grass first before the cow can eat it... Sorry I am just a layman on this issue.
This is similar to human digestion... a lot of plant matter we cannot digest without the help of bacteria inside our gut. If we eat processed food like pure starch and sugar we get ill over time.
Vegetables are perfectly fine providing the "good bacteria" got to eat it first. This can happen inside our large intestines or even better inside a mason jar.
Ferment your vegetables... it means give the "good bacteria" (they are everywhere) a chance. To discriminate against "bad bacteria", just add salt... about 2%. Our ancestors have known this for millions of years, modern society forgot about it.
Besides, I also ferment my milk... it is called cheese, kefir, yoghurt... It is the easiest thing in the world, because the "lactobacillus" (many different types) do all the work for you. No university degree in bio-chemistry needed... just be yourself, it is easy.

I found "low carb" wasn't the key thing, but "whole foods". If I'm eating whole foods I don't have to think about the carb content, that weeds out the foods that I shouldn't eat. All the breads, pasta, industrial seed oils, sweet things. FRUITS: Actually whole fruits are something that may need to be cut out. Or Dr Cyrus Khambatta PhD for diabetes. The loma linda study should've really helped the deniers.

@@crisch5670High fat dairy is not necessarily inflammatory. Depends on gut biome.

@@williammccartney4833 you are kinda right high fat dairy like butter and heavy cream are the way to go in terms of dairy products, It's a matter of personal choice , in my case I tend to gain a lot of weight and fat with every kind of dairy so I rather stay away from it...
