- Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Rear Suspension Up-Grade
A message from a subscriber that swapped the shocks over here - which is in the comments section of my Meteor vs Hunter comparison-
@exeterrider just fitted a pair of Hunter shocks to my Meteor.
They have had no negative effect on the the bike what so ever but that spine jarring thump has gone.
I would say I am well pleased.
Wasn't cheap though. I thought it was ordering a pair from India/eBay.
Didn't read the add properly and it turned out to be only one.
So making it a pair was a bit pricey.
As a single old man with more money than sense, I should wind my neck in and appreciate the results.
Oh well.
Thanks very much for letting me know!
"On my UA-cam channel, ExeterRider, I've delved into the world of Royal Enfield motorcycles, focusing on the beloved Royal Enfield Meteor 350. One common concern among Meteor 350 riders is the suspension, and I've explored various solutions to upgrade it,but apart from buying Hagon shocks there seemed to be no other way until I met James at a local bike night who had changed his rear shocks for Royal Enfield Hunter Rear shocks and said I could ride it round the block......What a difference!!!!!!
The Meteor 350 is known for its classic cruiser style, but enhancing its suspension can significantly improve the riding experience. I discuss a rear suspension upgrade for the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 using Royal Enfield Hunter 350 shocks.
As Royal Enfield continues to innovate, many riders are eager to explore the latest models, such as the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 new model in 2023. Upgrading the suspension is a great way to ensure that these classic motorcycles continue to deliver a fantastic riding experience.
So, whether you're a Royal Enfield Meteor 350 owner, a motorcycle enthusiast, or just curious about motorcycle suspension, my UA-cam channel, ExeterRider, is your source for valuable insights into Meteor 350 suspension upgrades and more."

Put a pair of Hunter shocks on my Meteor and went on a 1500-km trip, and was surprised at how comfortable the bike has become with them. Big improvement. Still not an amazing suspension system overall, but perfectly fine for this type of bike, the the Hunter.shocks cost a good deal less than Hagons or YSS would have. My dealer said using them would have no effect.on the guarantee. Many thanks! It has made the bike much more enjoyable.
Amazing to hear from another happy customer and from someone else who backs up what I was saying...Thanks very much for this, it not only helps me but also people who are in 2 minds about doing this....Thanks very much!
Nice one Exmouth. Although the extra 6mm does change the stance of the Meteor a bit, these shocks do have the added benefit of being blacked out from the factory.
On a Meteor Fireball the chromed spring on the spring/damper units always bothered me. I would have preferred the springs to be blacked out like the rest of the bike.
I haven't ruled out doing this mod ! If I have the cash to spend and nothing much else going on, I think I might buy a pair next year and give them a go.
If I don't like how the bike handles after the mod, I can always go back to standard and get some of my money back by selling the Hunter shocks on eBay.
Buddy's warranty expires next June anyway, so next summer would seem like a good time to give this a go.
At least in the meantime adding preload to the OEM setup has made the ride bearable for me, I'm not in any desperate rush to improve it.
Thanks for sharing. I deliberately kept this under my hat because of our "ER NDA" but now that you've released the video I will definitely mention it on my channel at some point 👍🏻
Take care Steve, love to the Exmouth crew, will be in touch soon !
El Outro and Robi
Yeap, you don't notice or feel the 6mm difference. It's all subjective but it seemed to ride better going around the block. Worth a punt is say👍
Thanks for the tip. I'll check that option out.
No worries mate. I found it worked a treat 👍
I fitted a pair of Hagons and it totally transformed the handling and smooth riding of the Meteor.
Brill👍
Nicely done!
Thank you! Cheers!
This should help a lot of owners
Hope so👍
there you go;;; that wasn't so painful ;; proper useful info ,,, and cheap ,, apart from the lowely 20 . 4 bhp ,the meteor 350 looks the best looking buy out there ;;;
Thanks Simon😂👍
I think that if i was your local Enfield dealer I'd have one set aside with the shocks changed and a sold sign taped to the headlight! "Exeter Rider'll be along in a day or two." 😁
😂Yea if I bought one, id also but the new shocks before I bought the bike 😂
Spot on ! I think he will get one Ken. He desperately wants to be a part of the cool kids' Meteor crew and get to hang out with those other RE reprobates in the Exmouth area.
I have promised to buy him some leather chaps if he does get one and I'm hoping that this could prove to be the deal clincher 😂👍🏻
@economicalrides 🤣🤣 He's progressed beyond Exmouth now mind, He mixes it with the Big Boys down Teignmouth now! (There'll be an initiation into the Black Widows soon I shouldn't wonder.... )
@@kenbrooks7794 I believe that sometimes he even ventures into the big smoke known as Exeter. It's a bit rough for him over there but it's the only place where he can buy his "novelty bedroom costumes".
There is an adult store opposite the Odeon cinema apparently, he mentioned it in one of his videos 😝
Exmouth Biker leads a very exciting life, one which many of us can only dream of ! If he ever gets that Meteor I can't even begin to imagine what he would get up to 😂
I'm just pretty sure that leather chaps will be a part of it ! 👍🏻
@economicalrides Thanks for that! I 'cant 'unsee' that vision now! 😳🤢🤣🤣
Hiya, very interesting and seriously useful info Thank You for sharing. Are you getting one ?
Id like too, but I don't use my other 2 bikes let alone adding to that problem. 😂
I do have alos a 350 Meteor. I rode about 3.000 km since August. I love the bike, but yes the rear suspension is asit, especially on the Hungarian "roads". So, there are two options, sell the donkey or improve the suspension. I found "Zaddox Universal Motorcycle Rear Shock Absorber with Compensation Tank" for 120 Euros - whihc is ok taking the risk of no improvement. I had a back surgery - so the suspension must be soft. Any advise - experiment can be very useful for me!
Good to see you have found a better option, 👍🍻
How can fitting genuine Enfield parts make the warranty invalid?. Can understand if another company's units were used.
Because that's how they get you💁, also avoids people using the wrong parts even when genuine parts
So would this raise the rear end of the bike up a tad?
There is 6mm difference which you won't even notice 👍🍻
My hunter suspension is far to hard and will be changing for Hagons ,are the meteors opposite and to soft.
Meteors are harder👍
Brother, you're damn right about hunter suspension. They're too stiff. Can you please name me the exact suspension you've got from Hagon's for reference.
The Meteor suspension was changed for hunter suspension, I haven't tried Hagon shocks yet.
@@exeterrider You are happy about Hunters suspension, we are worried about it. Oh God what a situation 🤣🤣.
@@hmzahamed9076 lol, it's better than the meteors for sure 😂👍
Oh, so you've got a sound recording booth now 😳
I wish, off come the sofa cushions and stuff in the office! Reality👍
@@exeterrider Sound sophisticated. 👍😊 Anyone who has the sheer audacity to sit in front of those charcoal wavey acoustic tiles stuck on their wall goes straight on my list. 😡
@@BeansOnToast_YT I do own them I'm sorry to say but they have never been used😒were far too succulent
@@exeterrider OK just please keep "The List" in mind.
BTW your channel should be overtaking me in 6 months or less if you keep going, that would be awesome. Not least because you get to take over the list 👍😊
@@BeansOnToast_YT ha, well I'm ready either way. You make the entertaining vids id like to make👍😁
If it was me I would change the whole bike for a Hunter, not just the shocks🙂
Very biased though Dave😂👍
@@exeterrider True🙂
Dave not only knows how to pick greatful dead sets on Dave's picks, he also has a point with the bike issue. Don't change the shocks, change the bike! Lol.😂
Wonderful way to show having the bike for a while shows how to fix problems even after you reviewed it. Nice!
🤣🤣🤣 Tonight's winner Dave!
£35-£40!! You won't get much for that money😂. I'd see if Hagon's done a decent pair.
Each yes, but they were better than the standard👍
Now, if you could find a way of de-limiting the engine, the bike could be the "praper jaab" it should be !
Dna air filter and a decat helps a lot👍
@@exeterrider Sadly I sold it and bought a T100.....which I love
@@RobLittleuk lots more "poke" 👍
