I have had my rock fortress for 2 years used it about 20 odd times in all weathers. Never had a problem with the zips its a great tent.
@@simonjiggly have you camped through below 0°F? For weeks in a row? Heating the inside, deep freezes at night, will seize the teeth and break them. This was an extreme test of its durability as we lived in it full time. Within 3 weeks we had more time in it than you have in two whole years
the only reason your tent got burn holes was because your chimney pipe was not long enough. You need to have a gap that will allow the embers to burn out before they fall on the surface of your roof.
It was a stove and chimney that was suggested for the tent, and you can see holes all the way at the bottom of the tent , sparks don't always go out that quick, as a hottent it has to be fire resistant and this was thinner than the average tent. I still wouldn't suggest this hottent without some serious precautions, making a proper one the better option
@@TheModernNativeTribedid your stove have a spark arrestor?
Yes it did
@@TheModernNativeTribe I think I’ll put some wire mesh or wool inside of the top of the chimney flue to hopefully prevent this from happening. Thanks for the review!
@aspra9 just watch the pipe heat too. Thanks!
for the zipper problem, there is an easy solution. Just take a candle and rub it in all the zipper teeth (idk what is the proper term in english). Also the zipper head might need a squeze with clamps .
I tried the the teeth have been spread too far
Thanks for the review. Good to know. I’ve been looking at them. Thanks brother..
I would look for a better company and not waste the money honestly. Thanks bro!
I actually absolutely love the tent, but I’m only a weekend warrior with it. It’s done me well I don’t know about living full-time for long periods of time whether or not it would hold out
Also it only took one fire and one bad storm to screw up both the side of the tent and the zipper. It's just a cautionary tale and a hard product test lol
isn't hot tents supposed to be OneTigris's specialty? I assumed all their hot tents would be fire resistant---finding out the way you did would really annoy me. I considered purchasing a hot tent from them but ultimately I decided against it. Glad I made the right choice. Thanks for the review; appreciate the honesty!
Yeah for sure you made the right choice. Thanks
I look back and think 🤔 to myself I need to be more native and not be so bashful about being in the cold 🥶 I missed out this winter
It's all about conditioning yourself. Get comfortable with being in uncomfortable situations
Almost all these problems are the result of user error, not the design. Not having a decent spark arrestor, not having a tall enough chimney, etc, and if you don’t put a wax on the zippers before using plus not thawing them before using it’s no surprise they broke. For the super low cost I’m not sure what was expected. You can buy five of these for one decent quality canvas tent. I only use it for hunting in October and early November, probably three weeks total each fall, maybe four if I’ve got the time, and I’ve had none of these problems, at this point I’ve got over four months of use out of it, a bargain for 230 bucks.
@mathewpankratz5767 yes as I said this was an extreme test and I had what I had, I'm supported solely through donations and subscriber support, once I had the gear I couldn't afford anything more so I had to figure it out and make due. Plus as stated and even in your statement, I lived in this full time through -30° weather a full winter
I don’t think there is a tent made today, that is meant to live in!
Just the old school canvas tents. But this should have been more durable, it didn't even last 14 days in the snow
@@TheModernNativeTribe yeah them old canvas Hillary tent were very durable
I would've gotten one if I had the money this was all I could afford. It's sad when a tarp shelter has been better than this
Great review...thanks
Thanks for watching!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do!
That is a disappointment.
It really is.
